Youths will soon be restricted from using social media-Senate

The Nigerian Senate is currently going through a bill to moderate social media activities.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the Nigerian Senate is set to make laws that will regulate the activities of youths on social media.

The Chairman Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, AbdulFatai Buhari made this known on Tuesday in Abuja at the National conference for Cyber Security.

If left unregulated, the activities on social media is capable of setting the country on fire. This is especially now that the country is approaching the general elections.

We have got experts to advise us and we have presented a bill to the Senate.

The bill has passed the first reading and it has been listed for the second reading.’’

Youths, he said, use social media to make accusations and claims about those perceived as political enemies. He however, noted that they should use their knowledge of ICT to develop the country’s economy.
