Shashi Naidoo shares her first photos from Jordan

Shashi Naidoo has taken to Instagram to share a number of pictures from her trip to the Middle East.

She did manage to spend some in Jordan where she visited a Palestinian refugee camp.

The posts mark the star’s return to Instagram after stating in June that she would be taking a break from social media.

The pictures shared by Shashi include one in which she lists things she “did not know 9 months ago”, as well as a picture with her mother who travelled alongside her.

Shashi Naidoo speaks on 10 year Israel ban

Shashi Naidoo spoke to the media at the O.R Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg yesterday, where she gave details on her Israel 10 year ban.

In June, she had announced she would go on a trip to the Palestinian Territories following backlash from her pro-Israel views.

Shashi was however refused entry into Israel, and banned for 10 years. She now says that she had been warned prior to her travelling, that there would be complications.

“We know now that I had been flagged before I left, but from the beginning of me walking in, I was targeted.”

“I was made to sit on a chair and then I was searched. And then I went to another area, pulled aside again,”she says, adding that the situation was like “mental warfare.”

She added: “In the beginning I was actually offered a Fanta and I thought, okay this is not so bad. But then we sat down and as the interrogation went on it was clear they obviously knew who I was and what was happening. But it got more and more intense, and after about two hours [of] interrogation, by the end of it I was in tears.”

Shashi was called a liar and accused of wanting access into Palestine to attend a BDS conference.

“I don’t know what travel implications this has for me travelling anywhere else, because obviously whenever you apply for any other visa they ask you have you been denied a visa by another country. So, I think this is going to have huge travel implications for me.”

As much as she did not visit the Palestinian territories, she visited a Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan.

“After seeing what I’ve seen I have had a massive change in perspective. Because you go and you can’t unsee the things that you’ve seen,” she said, describing the state of the camps as “shocking, saddening, and disheartening.”

Shashi Naidoo denied entry in Israel

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement of South Africa (BDS) confirmed that Shashi Naidoo has been blocked from entering Israel and making her way to the Palestinian Territories.

Shashi was  on a fact-finding tour of the Palestinian Territories, guided by the SA Council of Churches, following outcry around on social media in which she expressed pro-Israel views, and called Gaza a “shithole”.

“Israel authorities control access to Palestine and blocked her on the orders of Israel’s Interior Minister Aryeh Deri and the recommendation of Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan,” the statement reads.

Shashi Naidoo Vodacom appearance has been cancelled

Shashi Naidoo bad luck seems to be in a continuing streak as she has been dropped by yet another sponsor.

n a statement released to the media on Tuesday afternoon the horse racing and betting company Gold Circle announced that Shashi’s appearance at this year’s Durban July has been cancelled.

“Gold Circle has recently been made aware of a series of social media messages posted by Shashi Naidoo, who was appointed by an outside service provider to appear at this year’s Vodacom Durban July on Saturday 7 July 2018. It is understood that her scheduled appearance at the event has now been cancelled.”

The company also made it clear that “the views and opinions expressed by Shashi do not reflect those of Gold Circle, the Vodacom Durban July or those of its associated sponsors.”

Acknowledging that Shashi has already released a number of apologies, Gold Circle still went on to say that it “disassociates itself from the controversy surrounding the incident.”

Shashi Naidoo apologizes for her remarks

Shashi Naidoo came under fire for coming across as being”extremely uninformed” after expressing her views on Israel and Palestine on Saturday.

The model released several public apologiesfollowing the incident, saying: “I am extremely sorry for the statements I have made, unfortunately my comments came from very little knowledge of the political standing as I am not a political figure or even follow political.”

In her latest apology, Shashi explains what sparked her comments. She says that she received comments on an Instagram photo she posted of DJ Black Coffee, regarding a previous performance in Israel, and wanted to post a response in his defense.

Here is what she had to say:

It is with great humility that I step forward and not only accept, but again, sincerely and deeply apologise to all that I offended and hurt for my post in regard to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and my lack of understanding in my initial apology to the Muslim community. This should of been to the Palestinian people in the first instance, and broader society as a whole.
I apologise unconditionally, but I would also like to this opportunity to explain what happened with regard to my recent Instagram posts. I posted a picture with a DJ recently in Ibiza and the post attracted commentary from another Instagram user because he had played in Israel. In what I believed was defense of him, I reached out to a friend to help articulate a response and offer a secondary point of view, as to be honest, I didn’t know much about the situation (although it sure must have looked otherwise). I stupidly copied and pasted the response verbatim in a feeble attempt to appear smart on social media without reading it comprehensibly (I know), thereby entering an issue of world importance, I had no real fundamental understanding of – my biggest mistake. There is no spin. This is the truth. I expressed his worldview as my own, and for that I will forever live with the consequences. I agree with the commentary that it not only highlighted my ignorance on the issue and the way it was handled, but also made me seem uncaring and indifferent to the suffering of any human on this planet. I in no way wish to make excuses or expect people to forgive me at this time. I messed up. I know that, and I take full accountability.
All that I hope to achieve is  to convey that I am sincerely sorry, and in a way thank every one who called me out, as I have learnt from this. No matter what ones beliefs are, there is always room for empathy and compassion.

The last couple of days have shown me that there is a larger education that I need to undertake on issues facing humanity. I have read the commentary and will further not only educate, but re-educate myself .
Words will never be enough to express how truly sorry I am. It will be in my actions going forward that I do better
