South African model Thando Hopa made the country proud.
Thando attended the gala launch of the Pirelli Calendar 2018. This was at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Centre, New York.
Gown
Thando thus chose to wear a gothic gown design by Gert-Johan Coetzee. The gown’s detail included a Swarovski crystal embellished bodice and panelled mermaid skirt.
She features in the annual Pirelli Calendar. This is alongside super model Naomi Campbell and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, among others.
Thando was photographed in London by prolific lens man Tim Walker in May. She appears alongside Goldberg in the calendar.
Tim Walker was inspired by fantasy novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Thando therefore channels the Queen of Hearts, while Goldberg slips into character as The Duchess.
“I’ve always tried to do projects that present positive narratives for people who are underrepresented, like me, and the calendar really managed this,” she said.
“Alice in Wonderland speaks of possibilities, and this interpretation said that Alice could be anybody…”
