Comedian YY has finally addressed his unexpected breakup with ex-girlfriend Noela Toywa, confirming that the decision to walk away was his own because the relationship was no longer working.
Speaking in an interview on Alex Mwakideu TV on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, YY stressed the importance of knowing when to end a situation rather than forcing a dynamic that no longer serves both parties.
“Kitu kama haifai si unatoka tu. [If something isn’t working, you just leave.] I would not want to discuss anyone. I can only talk about myself,” YY stated, emphasizing his intent to remain respectful and private.
The Truth Doesn’t Need Defending
YY made it clear that he will not discuss Noela or reveal specific details about their separation out of respect for her. He maintained that the truth of what transpired is known only to the two people involved and does not require a public defense.
“First of all, everyone who wants to talk wants to be right. Yeye anajua kwa nini nilitoka. Out of respect, I won’t say what she did. The truth does not need to be defended,” he asserted.
The comedian clarified that no infidelity was involved in the separation, but he insisted that he had valid reasons for ending the relationship. He noted that if he had cared about public opinion, he would not have made the final decision.
“So when I ended that relationship, I was so sure, in fact, I would not have ended that relationship if I cared what people would think about me… Ata yeye penye ako, anajua it ended while she was asking for forgiveness,” he added.

YY also addressed the tendency of fans to sensationalize and take sides when public figures break up. He noted that people often create their own narratives based on incomplete information seen online, ignoring the reality behind closed doors.
He suggested a test for genuine fan support: “Sometimes when we have perceptions about people, we decide to create our own narrative about them… if you want to know they love you, breakup, that is when you will see them choosing sides.”
The relationship between YY and Noela began with a whirlwind romance, coming just two months after his split from actress Marya Okoth. Their visible affection, including romantic helicopter rides, made them an internet “it couple,” highlighting the abrupt nature of their eventual separation.
