What you missed at the Chaka Chaka concert

South African song stress Yvonne Chaka Chaka came for a Friday evening charity concert organized by the Shule Foundation.

Since the event had not been well publicized, no one was sure it would pull big crowds. But the 53-year-old South African Singer proved she only needs publicity for two days and Ugandans will dig deep into their pockets to get Shs100,000 for an ordinary and Shs5M for a table.

The opening performance was from Jacob Nsali who did two songs with the famous Coconut. It was around 9pm when Rema Namakula dressed in a long dress showed up on stage. She performed only two songs Banyabo and Tikula before she left for speeches from the Director of the Foundation.

Even with a band on stage, Chaka Chaka kicked off her performance without the band. She started with song with Man of the World, a song that praises Nelson Mandela.

She did songs like Mr DJ, Am in Love with the DJ, Let me be Free, I am Burning Up and climaxed show with Umqkmbotih which she invited Bobi Wine on stage to perform the song as they called it a night

She was received by the Shule Foundation team, comedienne Ann Kansiime and members of the press.

The musical fest, organized by The Shule Foundation will take place on July 20 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The show’s host will be comedian Salvado Idringi.

Any one born in the 80s and 90s probably grew up dancing to Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s songs and now you can get the opportunity to watch the songstress perform live in Kampala this weekend.

Chaka Chaka, who is known for her numerous hits including Umqombothi, Let me be free and many others landed in Kampala on Tuesday evening, ahead of her Charity Concert this Friday.
She was received by the Shule Foundation team, comedienne Ann Kansiime and members of the press.

Upon her arrival, the internationally celebrated starlet promised to give Ugandans nothing short of a memorable performance.

“I urge you all to come out and let’s enjoy a great evening celebrating African music. Proceeds from the show are also being driven towards a charity cause, something I am very passionate about,” she said.

Proceeds from the show are to aid with the construction of a school for former street children in Kampala.

“With 48 percent of the children on the streets under the age of 15, we should take it upon ourselves to ensure that these children are granted atleast one basic right, which is education,” said Jacqueline Wolfson, the CEO and founder of the Shule Foundation. She added that it would be a fun filled night with performances from Bobi Wine, and many other surprise acts.

Tickets to the show are already on sale, at Shs100, 0000 (ordinary), Shs300, 000 (VIP), and Shs5 million and Shs8 million for the table seating.

Yvonne Chaka Chaka Arrives in Uganda For Charity Concert

The woman with a voice, with some of the sweetest lyrics you have ever heard. Yvone Chaka Chaka is in town, and we are ready to dance to some of South Africa’s most amazing all time hits. She has stepped onto the Ugandan soil, for a charity concert, that is meant to take place this Friday at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Together with Bobi Wine and other Ugandan celebrated artists, the female vocalist will grace the stage, in an effort to fund raise money to send the street children back to school.

The legendary hit maker will be in Namboole Stadium first, to attend a community celebration to of Nelson Mandela’s Birthday. From there, she attend the show, them Saturday head to Kaazi Scouts camping grounds to spend some time with different families.

The “I’m Burning up” singer was received from Entebbe airport with flowers, as she stepped out with her son. We can’t wait for this event!
