Joyce Gituro Issues Apology After Backlash Over Comment on Dismissed Nairobi Baptist Pastor
Renowned media personality Joyce Gituro has spoken out following heavy criticism over a comment she made regarding the dismissal of a senior pastor from Nairobi Baptist Church amid serious misconduct allegations.
Pastor Dismissed Over Misconduct Allegations
On August 3, 2025, Nairobi Baptist Church released an official statement announcing the dismissal of its Senior Pastor, whose ordination was revoked due to actions deemed “incompatible with the calling of a servant of Jesus Christ.”
The church emphasized its commitment to truth, justice, and transparency, assuring the public that an independent investigation was underway. The statement, widely circulated on social media, drew a strong public reaction.
Gituro’s Controversial Comment Sparks Outrage
Amid the online discussion, Gituro left a comment questioning the church’s decision to publicly disclose the pastor’s dismissal. Her since-deleted comment read:
“So, why put it on social media? You’re damaging a brother more!!”
Many interpreted her words as defending the disgraced pastor, especially in the context of unconfirmed but serious allegations, including those involving sexual abuse. The backlash was swift, with critics accusing her of minimizing the gravity of the situation and silencing victims.
Gituro Responds: “I Regret My Fast Reaction”
In response to the uproar, Gituro released a clarification and apology, explaining that her initial comment was made without full knowledge of the circumstances.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming. Once I learned the truth, I deleted the post,” she said.
Gituro emphasized her zero tolerance for abuse, adding:
“Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story
