Nationwide Power Interruptions Announced for Thursday, October 9, 2025
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled maintenance works that will result in temporary power interruptions across several counties on Thursday, October 9, 2025. The planned outage, set to facilitate crucial network upgrades and ensure more reliable supply, will run between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in most affected areas.
Below are the detailed regions expected to experience interruptions:
Nairobi and Surrounding Areas
Along Mombasa Road
Power will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in parts of Intercounty, Small World Country Club, Game Ranch, Aquaest, Kanini Clinic, Brava, Lukenya Academy, Ksyumbunguo Hotel, Amazing Kenya, and nearby customers.
Part of Kitsuru
Areas to be affected include Gachie Market, Nyari, sections of Thingiri Road, Redhill Road, Limuru Road, and adjacent customers between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Machakos County
Part of Matuu
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., power will be off in Matuu Town, Kakumini, Kithendu, Muthesya, Mamba, Sofia, Ndalani, Kisiiki, Mavoloni, Kambi Mawe, Nthungululu, Kwa Ndolo, Yatta Water, Kateki, Kaluluini, Kyasioni, Maiyuni, Ithekethini, Ngengi, Mwambathana, Sinai, Kilango, Ikatini, Kathini, Itunduimuni, Mikuyu, Kakongo, Iviani, Mbembani, Kivingoni, Kondo, Kitengela, Kauthulini, Kasua Ngove, Nigeria, Malikiti, Kaumoni, Kimangu, Kambi ya Ndeke, Kalukuni, Kasooni, Yee Mwatu, Masewani, Isaane, and surrounding customers.
Uasin Gishu County
Kapchumba Area
Scheduled outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. affecting Kapchumba Secondary School, Lower Kiplombe, Kambi Thomas, Chemabwai, and nearby residents.
Kisumu County
Apondo Kasare Area
Electricity will be unavailable from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Apondo Kasare, Thur Dibuoro, Nyakwere, Kongowo, KEMFRI, Sango Rota, Sangoro, Nyawalo, and surrounding areas.
Kakamega County
Butali Market and Environs
Outage scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. affecting Butali Market, Butali Sugar Factory, Mastakha Market, Chebwayi, Matete Market, Kivaiywa Secondary, Bande Market, and nearby customers.
Nyeri County
Gikondi and Kibutio Areas
Power will be interrupted between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in Gikondi Market, Mwate Primary, Gikondi Technical, St. Ireen Secondary, Nduma Market, Muthuthini Market, Kaharo Secondary, Kibutio Secondary, and nearby residents.
Kirinyaga County
Kianyaga, Rukenya, and Philadelphia Areas
Affected areas include Kiandubiu Projects, Kiandai Market, Kianyaga Water Pump, Kianyaga Timber, Kianyaga Town, Rwambiti Village, Gichonjo-Ini Market, Kanjuu Village, Philadelphia Hotel, Riagacheru Village, and adjacent customers. The outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kiambu County
Kikuyu Town and Magana Area
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., power will be off in Kikuyu Town, Magana Complex, parts of Muthiga, Kidfarmacco, Universal Factory, Regen, Ondiri, Connix Factory, Karai, parts of Gitaru, Kihumo, and nearby customers.
YMCA, Broadways, and BAT Area
Outages will also affect Mt. Kenya University, Munene Industries, Bhucho, Nampark, Kenya Paper Sintel, Mama Millers, Slaughter, and Vine Park between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
KPLC has urged customers in the listed regions to make prior arrangements to minimize inconvenience during the maintenance period. The utility provider reaffirmed its commitment to improving power reliability and reducing unplanned outages nationwide.
