Chebet Ronoh recounts her encounter with mad man

Chebet Ronoh has opened up about a frightening encounter after she was allegedly chased by a man she described as mentally unstable during what was meant to be a routine walk to the gym.

The creator, known for her candid storytelling, shared the experience in a video posted on Instagram, recounting how the situation quickly escalated from uneasy to dangerous.

A Chilling Twist of Irony

Ronoh revealed that just days before the incident, she had come across a TikTok story about someone being chased by a mentally ill individual—something she initially found hard to believe.

“I recall a girl saying she had been chased and beaten by a mad person… I was like, where do you even get a mad person?” she said, admitting she had laughed it off at the time.

Uneasy Encounter at the Market

The reality hit closer to home when she set out for the gym, passing through a local market while listening to music on her headphones. There, she noticed a man carrying papers who appeared unstable and unusually fixated on her.

As she walked past him, his intense stare immediately raised alarm.

“He’s really fixated on me… I didn’t like that at all,” she recalled.

Situation Escalates

Trying to remain calm, Ronoh attempted to diffuse the situation by keeping a light, non-threatening demeanour. However, the man approached her and pushed her, signalling that the encounter was turning aggressive.

She said she tried smiling and laughing in hopes of de-escalating the tension, but the man did not respond, making it clear the situation was unpredictable.

No Help from Bystanders

One of the most distressing aspects of the ordeal, she noted, was the reaction of people nearby. Instead of stepping in, bystanders reportedly kept their distance, leaving her to deal with the situation alone.

Ronoh described the man as unpredictable and intimidating, adding that many people are often too afraid to intervene in such situations.

A Narrow Escape

The confrontation soon turned into a chase. As the man advanced toward her, she initially tried to walk away quickly, but he continued pursuing her aggressively.

Realising the danger, she ran until she created enough distance to feel safe. When she finally looked back, the man had stopped and was simply watching her.

A Hard Lesson Learned

Reflecting on the experience, Ronoh said the incident humbled her, noting that she was not dealing with a rational person and therefore could not rely on normal reactions or reasoning.

She concluded with a stark warning to her audience: prioritise your safety and leave immediately if you sense danger.

“Moral of the story—run,” she said.
