Suicide or murder? Family of deceased American influencer demand answers after she died in Tanzania
Miami-based lifestyle influencer Ashlee Jenae, 31, has been found dead in a hotel room in Tanzania during what was meant to be a luxury birthday trip.
Reports indicate the incident occurred just days after her fiancé, Joe McCann—also referred to as Jon McCann in some accounts—proposed to her as they celebrated her 31st birthday.
According to statements attributed to McCann, he told authorities that Jenae died by suicide.

Family and Friends Dispute Claims
However, Jenae’s family and close friends have strongly rejected this account, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her PR representative, along with several associates, has publicly questioned the narrative, arguing that it does not reflect her character.
“We need justice for my friend Ashlee Jenae… her fiancé claims she hung herself,” one friend wrote, amplifying calls for a thorough and transparent investigation.
Questions Over Timeline
Concerns have also emerged regarding the sequence of events leading up to the discovery of her death.
Unverified reports circulating online suggest that McCann may have delayed informing authorities or contacting Jenae’s family. There are also claims that he remained active on social media during the period in question.
While these details have not been officially confirmed, they have contributed to growing public scrutiny.
Investigation Ongoing
As of April 13, 2026, Tanzanian authorities are continuing with investigations into the case.
There are conflicting reports about McCann’s status, with some sources claiming he is in custody, though no official confirmation of an arrest or charges has been issued.
Authorities have yet to release a final cause of death, and investigations remain ongoing as calls for clarity and justice continue to grow.
