Betty Bayo laid to rest as her husband Tash and ex-hubby Kanyari unite to give her beautiful send-off

Hiram Gitau delivered an intensely emotional tribute at the burial of his wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo, speaking openly about the silence, pain, and profound emptiness that has filled their home since her passing.

Addressing mourners, Gitau said the house now “echoes with a heavy, profound quiet,” a stark contrast to the laughter that once brightened their lives. He described his grief as “a new raw footprint — a landscape of loss shaped entirely by your absence.”

Losing his wife, he said, felt like losing the compass that guided his world.

“I still turn to share a thought with you, only to face an empty space. I reach for you in the night and find cold sheets,” he said.

Gitau reflected on the small, intimate rituals that defined their marriage — shared glances over their children’s heads, late-night conversations, even the simple routines of caring for their skin together — memories that now “ache with intensity.”

Despite his heartbreak, Gitau assured mourners that his priority now is their children, Sky and Dani, whom he described as their “living legacy” and “the most precious pieces” of their mother still present.

“My commitment to our children is now the very axis of my life,” he said. He vowed to protect them, honour their choices, and ensure they never doubt how deeply they are loved. “The love you poured into them will now flow through me — doubled in its intensity.”

He also pledged to take care of his mother-in-law and preserve the strong family ties Betty nurtured. Noting that she always united both families during Christmas, he promised the tradition would continue. “Sky and Dani will help me keep that bond alive,” he said.

Gitau reminded mourners that Betty’s birthday was just days away, on November 24, promising that her family will continue to honour her life every year.

In closing, he described himself as “shattered but not broken” and thanked God for the years he shared with his wife. Though accepting God’s will is painful, he said he finds peace in believing “He did not want her to suffer in this cruel and unforgiving world.”

“Rest now, my beautiful wife,” Gitau said. “Your watch has ended. Mine continues, fuelled by a love that not even death can dim. Watch over us until I can hold you again. Rest with the angels till we meet again.”

His tribute moved the audience to applause, with clergy, friends, and public figures visibly emotional during the farewell.

Pastor Victor Kanyari’s Tribute

Pastor Victor Kanyari also delivered a heartfelt message as he mourned the mother of his children.

He reflected on the early days of their relationship, their struggles, and the family they built before parting ways. He recalled meeting Betty 13 years ago “in the middle of our daily Nairobi hustle,” describing her as a shy, ever-smiling young woman whose gentleness softened even his busiest days.

They connected instantly, he said, and within weeks, found it difficult to imagine life without each other.

He reminisced about their long conversations, dreams shared, and their humble beginnings in the warm, modest home where Betty lived.

“Even then, I could already see the big dream in your eyes,” he said.

Their relationship progressed naturally. “I was looking for a wife, a companion, a partner, and a dreamer,” he said. “Within months, we were already living as husband and wife.” They welcomed their first child soon after, a moment that made life “suddenly serious,” eventually becoming parents of two.

Reflecting on their children, Kanyari said he sees Betty in both of them.

“I see your face in our daughter’s beauty and your spirit in her gentle way,” he said. Their son, he added, carries his boldness but also his mother’s warmth and humour.

Kanyari openly apologised for the hardships Betty endured during public controversies linked to him.

“I’m truly sorry that my brand, my name, and my drama put you through difficult moments,” he said. Despite everything, he praised her for never poisoning their children’s hearts against him or denying them a father.

He recalled periods when they both trended online, saying each had their own story to tell. He admired her resilience, noting how she rose above challenges — even joking about her brand growing stronger despite the scandals.

“Betty, you were a hardworking woman, a forgiving soul, a loving mother, and a true friend,” he said. “You loved God with all your heart. You built your life with grace and raised our children with humility.”

He expressed regret for the ways he may have failed her, but vowed never to fail their children, saying she will forever remain alive in their hearts.
