MCA Tricky Explains Why He Left Kenya for Germany to Pursue a Master’s Degree
MCA Tricky has opened up about his decision to relocate to Germany, revealing that he is pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Mechatronics while continuing to build his career in entertainment.
The move has surprised many of his fans, especially given his continued success in Kenya’s comedy industry. However, Tricky says the decision was motivated by his desire to prepare for the future as technology and the global job market continue to evolve.
‘I Refused to Watch the World Change From the Sidelines’
In a post shared on social media, the comedian explained that he wanted to equip himself with new skills rather than remain comfortable with his current success.
“Kwani Ulienda Germany kufanya?? Answer is in Slide 2. The world is changing faster than ever, and I refused to watch it change from my sidelines. That’s why I crossed continental borders to get my MSc Mechatronics here in Germany,” he wrote.
Tricky emphasized that pursuing further education does not mean he is abandoning comedy.
Instead, he described the move as an investment in his long-term future, saying he relocated to Germany “not to replace my artistic gift, but to strengthen my future.”
Responding to Critics
The comedian also addressed critics who have downplayed the value of higher education, with some claiming that advanced degrees can simply be obtained by paying tuition.
In a video shared online, Tricky challenged those making such assertions.
Referring to people who claim, “You just go, you pay, you are given,” he responded, “Okay, pay for yours and be given.”
To demonstrate the demands of his academic journey, Tricky has been posting snippets of his study routine, showing himself tackling complex coursework while adapting to life in Germany.
Balancing Engineering and Entertainment
Before relocating, Tricky earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kenyatta University, giving him a strong technical foundation before embarking on his postgraduate studies.
He believes his engineering background complements rather than competes with his career in entertainment.
Using the hashtag #SwordbothSides, Tricky says he wants to demonstrate that academic achievement and creative talent can go hand in hand.
“Degrees open doors while talent opens hearts and circles,” he wrote.
Through his journey, the comedian hopes to challenge the perception that people must choose between the arts and science, insisting that intelligence and creativity are partners rather than rivals.
