North Rift Identity Fears Rise After Sh20M MP Truck Torched In Naivasha Chaos

Chesumei Constituency Member of Parliament Paul Biego has spoken out following the destruction of his commercial truck, valued at over Sh20 million, during volatile protests in Naivasha.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker confirmed that his Mercedes-Benz Actros 3340 truck was targeted and completely burned down by rowdy individuals participating in demonstrations linked to the ongoing public transport crisis.

According to the legislator, the vehicle had just completed a transit run from Eldoret to safely deliver flour to Kanini Haraka Wholesalers in Naivasha before it was intercepted and set ablaze.

Coordinated Regional Targeting Fears

The MP raised serious alarms over the nature of the attack, alleging that the arsonists deliberately targeted the truck after identifying it as a vehicle arriving from the North Rift region.

“Because of the lawlessness during today’s uncalled-for Maandamano, my truck worth over Sh20 million—an Actros 3340—was completely destroyed in Naivasha simply because the perpetrators identified that it was from North Rift,” Biego stated. “What’s more heartbreaking and deeply unsettling is that there seems to be a coordinated active targeting and monitoring of vehicles and trucks from North Rift in this ongoing violence.”

Biego added that the loss extends far beyond the financial value of the asset, noting that the truck supported multiple livelihoods, including those of drivers, mechanics, and loaders. He described the destruction as a painful blow to honest, hard work.

Innocent Businesses Bearing the Brunt

Condemning the escalation of violence during the nationwide transport gridlock, the MP lamented that innocent entrepreneurs and logistics operators are suffering massive losses over a crisis they have no control over.

The incident in Naivasha underscores the widening impact of the transport strike, as demonstrations against rising fuel prices increasingly spill over into looting, highway blockades, and the destruction of private commercial property.
