Akon’s Divorce- Wife Reportedly Left with Only $10,000 As Singer’s Wealth Under Mother’s Name

Senegalese-American singer and entrepreneur Akon (Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam) is reportedly facing scrutiny in his divorce proceedings, with court disclosures indicating a minimal balance in his personal accounts.

The singer’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce in September 2025 after 29 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

Wealth Transferred to Mother

During the ongoing legal proceedings, reports suggest a court discovery revealed that Akon’s personal bank accounts contain a balance of only $10,000. The bulk of his substantial wealth is allegedly held under his mother’s name, a move that effectively shields the assets from marital distribution.

Tomeka Thiam was reportedly pushing for a significant share of Akon’s financial empire, asserting that she contributed to the construction of that wealth throughout their nearly three-decade marriage. Court documents indicate she was seeking a settlement reportedly valued at $100 million.

The discovery of the minimal funds in Akon’s personal accounts presents a significant obstacle to her financial demands.

Comparison to Achraf Hakimi

The divorce filing, dated September 12, 2025, occurred just days before the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary.

The situation has rapidly become a subject of intense discussion online, with netizens drawing comparisons between Akon’s financial strategy and that of Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, who similarly transferred significant assets to his mother’s name amid his own divorce proceedings. This strategy is now a trending topic on social media platforms.
