Kenya’s undisputed king of movie commentary, DJ Afro Amingos, has officially triggered the countdown for his return to the booth. In a high-energy announcement shared on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the legendary entertainer revealed that fans have only three weeks to wait before he resumes the work that made him a household name across East Africa.

A New Era of High-Quality Content

DJ Afro isn’t just returning; he’s leveling up. He promised his audience a significant technical upgrade, noting that both new movies and series are in the pipeline with “better quality” than anything he has produced before.

“We said in 3 weeks—New Movies and Series, Better Quality… and let Nganga Duma and the rest make a comeback without filters,” he posted, referencing the iconic characters that often feature in his localized narrations. He assured fans that the upcoming content would be sharper, more engaging, and more immersive.

Engaging the “Mutina” Fanbase

True to his interactive style, DJ Afro has invited his massive following to help shape the relaunch. He posed several questions to his fans to ensure nothing is missed:

  • The Classics: He asked fans to nominate “kitambo” (old-school) films they want to see him re-narrate with his signature flair.

  • The New Wave: He is currently taking requests for the latest global blockbusters and series to prioritize in his new lineup.

From the Boxing Ring to the Studio

This comeback follows DJ Afro’s recent high-profile stint as the official commentator for the viral Majembe vs. Mbavu Destroyer boxing match at Kasarani. His performance during the bout proved that his voice remains one of the most influential tools in Kenyan entertainment.

Capitalizing on this momentum, the commentator also held a live session on TikTok to thank his supporters and promised to finally reveal the origins of his famous monikers, including the long-debated name “Mutina.”

As the countdown continues, the excitement is palpable. For a generation that grew up on his hilarious and fast-paced translations, DJ Afro’s return marks the revival of a unique Kenyan art form. Very soon, as he puts it, “we will be taking positions daily!”

Celebrating DJ Afro: Super Commentator Helped me Get a Wife!

When people meet DJ Afro Amigos for the first time, they pause. Unspoken questions hang in the air like clouds before a downpour.

Is this really DJ Afro? Is this the super commentator?

Well, DJ Afro doesn’t look like a comedian on the street. But, then how should comedians look like?

He’s probably the most unassuming person you’ll ever meet. A polite, friendly demeanor conceals an extremely creative, hilarious mind.

I met DJ Afro circa 2006 in Rongai, a dusty backyard in the outskirts of Nairobi. I was in high school, then. Rongai wasn’t much a posh party spot.

The favourite hangout spots atleast for student gangs was in ‘Pay-per-view’ video dens. We’d spend weekends watching King Fu and Vietnam War flicks.

Except, DJ Afro was a live commentator. The creative now credited as the pioneer of an entire industry was starting out. A broke chap, he didn’t have equipment – he’d headline movies ‘live live’.

It was mad fun! He’d later move to Nakuru, and start recording.

Ten years later, I’m done with college, and on my first job as an insurance broker. Nairobi is ruthless to chaps on their first jobs, especially a vocation based on commission.

It’s a tightrope between starvation and God’s mercies in dark, cramped bedsitters.

Two things happened, mere coincidences that ultimately shaped my entire life.

One, DJ Afro re-appeared into life, albeit by sheer providence. My brother would gift me his old TV, and VCD machine and his prized VCD collection.

Two, I got a new neighbor – a bubbly, chatty girl with long legs and a gap on her upper teeth.

Well, a student and a chap on their first jobs in Nairobi share the same life of penury. Nothing brings souls together than a shared enemy.

Hunger was our mutual enemy.

She’d fall in love. But, she first fell in love with DJ Afro – featured heavily on my VCD collection. I’d say we curl up on the coach, but we didn’t have a coach.

We’d sprawl on a thin mattress and watch Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren single handedly devour entire armies, Kung Fu protège’s avenge their master’s deaths…..

All along, DJ Afro would be doing his signature thing: Arrrrrrrrrrrrrright, Asanta sana……

She’d become my girlfriend, and partner in life and crime.

To date, nothing evokes fonder memories than rainy evenings in our cold bedsitter – listening to hilarious, cracking side shows by DJ Afro!

We had one luxury – when an occasional client bought my insurance policies, or a benevolent relative sent her some pocket money, we’d splurge on a 1ltr Fanta soda and a packet of cakes.

Zzero Sufuri, who is arguably the most creative new-age artist and famed for his Zimnishika mega hit, has released a new track and it’s getting good reception from his fans.

The song titled Magode Choke is all about smoking weed. I mean, what were you expecting? Anyway, I’m joking. The fact that Zzero Sufuri has released yet another song about smoking weed does not mean that it’s whack.

To be honest, the first time I listened to this jam I was so confused because I could not really tell whether I liked it or not. However, the more I listened to is is the more I realised that it’s a masterpiece.

Perhaps, if you listen to it when you are stoned, it will slap even harder. And no, I’m not telling you do drugs because they are bad, aren’t they? I digress.

As you listen to this jam, you get to appreciate Zzero Sufuri’s sheer creativity. He has unique ability to match random words and ends up making some dope rhymes.

Like the part where he says, “Niko jaba ndani ya Ummoinner, jaba ndani ya Ummoiner, mi hukataga to mamuratina, chinjianga dem ako na itina, me naiita inaniskiza, iikjipa bado nitaifinya.”

What! Is this guy even human like the rest of us? Sometimes I wonder because his creativity is out of this world. He’s without a doubt one of the best lyricists that this country has ever seen.

The ragga and dancehall beat by Idrisa is also impeccable. This lad brings out the best in Zzero Sufuri since he knows him too well. I look forward to the two them working together for a very long time.
