MP Wamuchomba Slams Nakuru Nightclub Over School Uniform Stunt

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has sharply criticized a Nakuru nightclub after a viral video showed female bartenders dressed in school uniforms, sparking widespread outrage.

Calling the incident a disturbing case of “normalizing child sexualization,” Wamuchomba condemned Space Next Door, the club at the center of the storm, which later issued a public apology.

Drawing the Line

In a strongly worded social media post, Wamuchomba clarified she is “not a moral cop” but questioned where society should draw the line between advertising and morality.

“This is a new phenomenon of normalizing child sexualization and pedophilia fantasies. I’m not a moral cop, but where do we draw the line between advertisement and morals?” she posed.

The MP stressed that school uniforms carry symbolic weight and should never be used in adult entertainment. She warned that presenting them in such a context blurs the boundary between children and sexual objectification.

“This gives predators a field day to mentally socialize children to pleasure, indirectly sexualizing and objectifying prepubescent children,” she said, warning it could fuel sexual exploitation and abuse.

A Society at Risk

Wamuchomba further linked the issue to Kenya’s broader struggles, noting the country is already grappling with rising cases of incest, molestation, and sexual assault. She argued that trivializing such imagery only emboldens abusers and deepens existing social crises.

Club’s Response

In response to the backlash, Space Next Door issued a statement acknowledging the video but insisting it had been part of a themed night.

“At no point do we promote or endorse any of the claims associated with this video. Our sole intention was to create fun, engaging, and respectful experiences while highlighting everyday roles in a positive and entertaining light,” the management said.

The club apologized for the controversy, adding:
“We sincerely apologize for any negative misinterpretation. We remain committed to maintaining professionalism, creativity, and community connection in everything we do.”

Gathoni Wamuchomba Slams President Ruto’s Nine-Helicopter Visit Over Finance Bill Dispute

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has reignited criticism of President William Ruto’s leadership style, recounting an incident in which the head of state allegedly traveled with a fleet of nine helicopters to her constituency to reprimand her for opposing the Finance Bill 2023.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, July 15, 2025, Wamuchomba described the presidential visit as an extravagant and unnecessary show of force, especially given the short distance from Nairobi’s CBD to Githunguri.

“It’s a 12-minute drive when there’s no traffic,” she said. “Yet the president showed up with nine helicopters—and you’re telling us about austerity? That’s what you call listening?”

“He Came to Lecture, Not to Listen”

According to Wamuchomba, the president’s true intention was not to engage with the public, but to publicly chastise her over her rejection of the government’s controversial affordable housing plan.

“The president stood on the podium, with his hands in his pockets, and called me a hypocrite. He said, ‘You can’t oppose affordable housing while living in a mortgage-financed house,’” she recounted.
“That wasn’t a dialogue. That was a lecture.”

She accused the president of using the platform to undermine dissenting voices, particularly hers, adding,

“He came to lecture one woman—Gathoni Wamuchomba. Is that what you call leadership?”

A Response to MP Maryanne Keitanny

Wamuchomba’s remarks were made in direct response to Aldai MP Maryanne Keitanny, who had previously defended the president’s travel expenses, suggesting his grassroots visits justify an increase in his travel budget.

“We must appreciate that the president is a symbol of national unity,” Keitanny said in May. “If he needs to travel to listen to citizens, then we should support that.”

However, Wamuchomba pushed back against that view, arguing that true listening does not require extravagant displays or public rebukes.

“Maryanne knows the president doesn’t come to listen. He comes to lecture. And if that’s what we’re funding—then it’s not about the people. It’s about silencing critics.”

Ongoing Tensions Within the Ruling Coalition

The fiery exchange underscores the growing friction within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, especially as more legislators challenge government policies on taxation, housing, and budget priorities.

Wamuchomba has been among the most vocal MPs opposing the Finance Bill and pushing back against what she describes as punitive economic measures on ordinary Kenyans.

Her latest comments add to the broader public debate on government spending, presidential accountability, and the freedom of MPs to represent their constituents without intimidation.

As the country heads toward the 2027 general election, such internal dissent may signal deeper cracks within the political alliance that swept President Ruto into office.

When talking to her supporters, Wamuchomba saw they were opposed to the bill’s numerous additional taxes. When the Treasury CS would introduce the Finance bill in parliament, they advised her to vote against it. The dialogue went like this:

“My boss is you, my voters. I want to hear your opinion. Don’t say it to make me happy because it is you who will feel the pain. Are we headed in the right way?
You are angry because of Tax and Unga. Now, because you voted for me, and I am part of Ruto’s government, should I vote YES or NO?”

Kiambu Women Rep not ready to share her husband with any woman despite calling on Kikuyu men to marry at least five wives

Sometimes in April 2018, Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba made headlines when she called on Kikuyu men to take up to five wives.

“We give birth to these children, and we do not want to own up to them. If you are a man from the Kikuyu community, and you can sustain five wives, have them and if you are a man and you are in a position to bring up many children do it,” said Wamuchomba.

While Wamuchomba openly advocated for polygamy, she is however not ready to share her husband with any other woman. The Kiambu Women Rep blamed the media for misinterpreting her statement during a recent interview with Massawe Japanni on radio Jambo.

Massawe pressed Wamuchomba to state whether she could share her husband, but she evaded the question saying that her statement was misinterpreted, clearly indicating that she wasn’t ready for polygamy.

“Unajua sasa shida yenu nyinyi watu ambao mnachukua hii habari tunaongea huwa mnatengeneza story zenu on top of a story.

Kiambu Women Rep offers to admit Moses Kuria to a rehab center following his scathing attack on president Uhuru

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria took many by surprise when he attacked president Uhuru Kenyatta during a new year eve party at Thika Stadium.

Kurua sensationally claimed that Uhuru had neglected Mount Kenya region in terms of development. The controversial MP said that the president was focused on developing other regions.

“As we enter 2019, you (voters) must think … our responsibility is not just to vote and after voting, the government that we form takes development to other regions. That kind of nonsense must stop. We were with him in Kisumu where he commissioned a road project, but when he visits (Kiambu), he only issues certificates to recovering alcoholics,” said Moses Kuria.

Alcoholic

Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba however claims Moses Kuria was drunk when he made the remarks. She said Uhuru commissioned the construction of major roads in Kiambu county including Wangige-Ngecha, Uplands-Githunguri-Ruiru-Moi among others.

Wamuchomba further offered to admit Moses Kuria to a rehabilitation centre. She said she had sent Kuria a text message requesting him to join Mama Care Rehab Centre in Karuri, Kiambaa constituency which she founded.

Monogamy is hurting men! Atheists in Kenya throw their weight behind Kiambu Woman Rep

Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba is asking Kikuyu men to take up to five wives. The lawmaker says men who sire children with different women should consider taking them as their additional wives.

Wamuchumba argues children brought up without their fathers is the root cause of social problems. She claims this can only be solved by polygamy.

“We give birth to these children, and we do not want to own up to them. If you are a man from the Kikuyu community, and you can sustain five wives, have them and if you are a man and you are in a position to bring up many children do it,” said Wamuchomba.

Church to be blamed

Atheists in Kenya are backing Wamuchomba in supporting polygamy. The president of no-believers Harrison Mumia says the church is to be blamed for creating stigma against polygamy.

“The stigma associated with polygamy is a creation of the church. The church remains the greatest barrier to change, even as we debate this subject,” said Mumia.

Mumia further says that monogamy is hurting married men. He says the practice of one man one wife has lead to increased cases of marital infidelity.

“We must acknowledge that monogamy is hurting many married men and women in Kenya. Monogamy in many cases leads to marital infidelity, the lathering of ‘illegitimate’ children and the pursuit of younger women or trophy wives, ostensibly by men,” said Mumia.
