Nation FM has launched a refreshed weekday programming schedule, introducing a high-profile team of presenters in a bid to diversify its content and broaden its listener base.

Shatta Bway Joins Nation FM After Radio 47 Exit

Renowned radio personality Shatta Bway has officially joined Nation FM, following his recent departure from Radio 47. Known for his high energy and charismatic style, Shatta now takes over the Rockers Nation slot, airing weeknights from 8:00 p.m. to midnight. This move marks his third major radio stint, having previously worked at Radio Citizen and Radio 47.

Claudia Naisabwa Makes Her Radio Debut

TV and digital content creator Claudia Naisabwa is stepping into radio for the first time. She will co-host Vibe Shift with Brian Aseli every weekday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Claudia, who recently won Fashion Influencer of the Year and Best Dressed Influencer at the 2024 Pulse Influencer Awards, brings a fresh and stylish flair to the airwaves.

More New Voices and Updated Schedule

Nation FM’s revamped line-up also includes new shows and fresh voices:

  • Barbra Koinange kicks off mornings with Praise Break from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., featuring uplifting gospel tunes.

  • Eric Latiff, Janet Mbugua, and Mariam Bishar continue to lead the flagship breakfast show (6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.), which airs both on radio and TV.

  • Harry Araka and Nyanduko Nyabuto will co-host Ride and Vibe during the drive-time slot from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering lively discussions and music for evening commuters.

Radio Landscape Remains Competitive

According to the latest listenership data, Citizen Radio maintains its lead with a 17.3% market share, a position it has held for over 20 years. Newcomer Radio 47 has quickly risen to second place with 7.5%, followed by Kameme Radio at 6.9%. Ramogi FM and Radio Jambo are tied at 6.1%.

The updated Nation FM line-up represents a strategic effort to compete in a dynamic radio market, where vernacular stations remain dominant and emerging brands like Radio 47 continue to gain ground.

Tina Kaggia officially returns to radio after 4-year break

After roughly 4 years of going missing on the radio waves, former Classic 105’s mid-morning presenter, Tina Kaggia is back.

However, this time she is making her comeback on rival station, Nation FM. Breaking the news on her Instagram page, the young beauty was spotted sitting in one of the studios, captioning; “Queens never give up the crown. Good morning! #TheVoice is back!!! #nationfm

This morning, the radio girl welcomed fans to a revamp of her on the Nation Media Group-owned radio station psyching; “Good morning!Let’s do this!!!” From the look of things, Tina has taken up The Morning Fix show as she starts from where she left 4 years ago.

The break

The radio presenter had in mid-December 2016 revealed she needed to “step back for a minute and focus on greater things,” but failed to give finer details on the same.

Her love for radio was however going to bring her back, clarifying she was going off-air for a short while but would be back before we know it.

“I have hang my gloves. Not for good. For an extremely short while. I live for radio, I breathe for it. But at times, you need to step back for a minute. For now, I am leaving Radio Africa. I absolutely love each and everyone there. But I need to flap my wings…” confessed Tina Kaggia during her exit in 2016.

Speculations were rife she had quit radio to engage with a leading sports firm after sharing a promotional video for the corporate on her Facebook page but she however never commented on the same.

And now that she is back, we can only enjoy the ride. Excited fans welcomed her back, glad that she kept her word.

Listen or Skip? Legendary Radio and TV personality Fareed Khimani is back on radio

While many believe once popular, funny and canny  radio presenter Fareed Khimani is washed up, it seems a popular radio station and some fans still believe he has some juice left.

The legendary host who worked for Capital FM, XFM and Nation FM in the early 2000s is back in the frequency via a station that is also trying to make a comeback after several failed relaunches: Nation FM.

Taking to Instagram, the presenter alerted fans that he’s back to hosting the morning show on Nation.

“Alright. Now it’s really on 96.3 in the morning… tomorrow fro. 6am. This son of a gun is back,” Tweeted Fareed.

Shutting down

Nation is struggling to reenter the market two years after it shutting down alongside sister stations QTV, QFM and Rwanda’s KFM.
