Gachagua Criticized For Advising Kenyans Abroad Not To Send Money Back To Kenya

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has strongly criticized Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua over controversial remarks made during his recent visit to the United States. Gachagua’s directive, urging Kenyans from the Mt Kenya region not to send foreign remittances back to Kenya until a new government takes over in 2027, has sparked widespread backlash, with Sudi terming the statement “reckless and dangerous.”

Sudi accused the former Deputy President of actively sowing division and undermining national unity at a time when Kenya is already grappling with significant political tensions.

“You want to tell people from the mountain to keep their money in their pockets and wait for you until 2027? I think you have a mental issue. How do you even say something like that?” Sudi posed emphatically, questioning Gachagua’s judgment.

The MP further warned that such utterances could severely harm the country’s economy and derail crucial progress made in mobilizing diaspora investments, which are a significant source of national revenue.

Meanwhile, Gachagua, during his US tour, claimed that the perceived rift between President William Ruto and the Mt Kenya region had played a major role in destabilizing the country’s economy. He argued that the Kenya Kwanza government could not effectively function if citizens from the Mt Kenya diaspora continued to withhold their remittances. According to the former Deputy President, the move to withhold remittances was a deliberate form of economic resistance, insisting that Mt Kenya’s contribution to the national economy had been consistently undervalued. He maintained that the region possessed the financial muscle abroad to significantly influence national stability.

Gachagua, who was impeached as Deputy President in October 2024, further maintained that efforts by the Kenya Kwanza leadership to politically sideline him had failed. He accused them of attempting to divide the Mt Kenya region through strategic appointments and targeted smear campaigns.

“They tried to dismantle my support base, but the mountain has stood firm,” he asserted. He continued, “I want to tell you the government has failed economically. We have withheld our money back at home, and I urge you to do the same that you are doing here,” he added, punctuating his address with these highly controversial remarks.

However, the former Mathira MP’s statements have triggered sharp political backlash back home, with critics widely accusing him of exploiting the Mt Kenya region’s economic power to push his personal political agenda rather than addressing genuine national concerns.

MP Oscar Sudi Defends Murkomen’s ‘Shoot To Kill Order’ To Police

Kapseret Member of Parliament Hon. Oscar Sudi has publicly endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s recent directive allowing police to use lethal force when stations are attacked. Sudi, in a post on his X account on June 30, 2025, criticized groups for hijacking peaceful Gen Z protests and turning them into violent events, including assaults on police stations.

Sudi’s remarks come amid widespread public debate following Murkomen’s directive, which was issued after violent protests on June 25, 2025, concerning the controversial 2024 Finance Bill. In a passionate video shared on social media, Sudi dismissed criticism against police officers and defended their actions during confrontations.

According to Murkomen, at least ten Kenyans died during the June 25 protests, and the government is investigating the circumstances of their deaths.

“I have seen discussions on crooks, thieves, and those who took advantage of Gen Z during the demonstrations, used by politicians—whose plan was it?” Sudi questioned. “What amazes me is the debate on whether one should be shot or not when they storm a police station.”

Sudi asserted that storming police stations or attempting to seize weapons crosses a critical line. “You cannot storm the police station and be left like that—it is like throwing Kenya into sewage,” he warned, emphasizing that such actions threaten national order and must be met with firm resistance.

Respect for Authority Has Eroded

Reflecting on past societal values, Sudi expressed concern over what he perceives as a decline in respect for institutions.

“In our good olden days, we used to respect even the Chief, let alone the police,” he stated. He criticized some Kenyans for, in his view, misusing democratic freedoms. “This constitution helped us gain democracy, but people now think they can do anything.”

He urged Kenyans to cease what he termed “foolish debates” regarding police conduct. “When someone storms a station or throws stones at police and is shot, you can’t claim you didn’t expect that to happen,” he concluded. “Let’s leave that discussion—it is how it has been said.”

Oscar Sudi gifts Nuru Okanga Ksh1.3 Million

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has announced plans to support Nuru Okanga, an ODM supporter known from the Obinna Show, with significant financial aid. This includes purchasing a three-bedroom house through the government’s Affordable Housing Project and providing Ksh 1.3 million for business ventures. The financial assistance breaks down to Ksh 1 million for Okanga and Ksh 300,000 for his wife to start a hairdressing business. This gesture has elicited varied reactions; some commend Sudi for his philanthropy, while others question the source of the funds, suggesting it might be from public coffers. The announcement was made live on the Obinna Show, highlighting a cross-party support gesture.

Eldoret Youths Charged with Looting and Vandalism at Timba XO Club

Sixteen young people were arraigned in an Eldoret court on Thursday for allegedly stealing goods worth Sh78 million and vandalizing property valued at over Sh80 million belonging to Oscar Sudi’s Timba XO club.

The accusations stem from a Gen Z demonstration in Eldoret on June 25th, which resulted in the looting and destruction of property at the popular club.

Six Charges Against Youths

The youths face six charges, including theft, handling stolen property, and malicious damage to Timba XO Club’s property on June 25th during the Eldoret Gen Z protests.

Prosecutors allege that the accused, along with others not in court, broke into Timba XO lounge in the Sukunanga area of Kesses Sub County, along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway. They are accused of engaging in criminal activities such as theft and destruction.

Stolen Goods and Vandalized Property

The court heard that during the incident, the accused stole items including speakers, televisions, lighting equipment, food and alcoholic beverages, laptops, computers, kitchenware, gas cylinders, and more, with a total value of Sh78,896,560, all belonging to Timba XO lounge.

A separate charge accuses them of causing malicious damage estimated at Sh80,000,000 to property including offices, the CCTV control room, the main club store, alcohol counters, furniture, electronics, and glassware.

Defense Plea and Detention

Some of the suspects faced additional charges of handling stolen goods. All the accused pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Kesse Choronoh.

Their lawyers, including Asseso Omolo, Amazon Koech, and George Sonkule, appealed to the court for lenient bail terms, considering that most of the accused are high school or college students.

The defense lawyers informed the court that three of the accused are students at different secondary schools in Uasin Gishu County.

The Magistrate ordered the accused to be held at Eldoret GK Prison until a ruling on their bail application is made. The court also directed probation officers to prepare pre-bail reports to determine their eligibility for release on bond.

The prosecution did not object to their release on bond.

Next Hearing

The case will be heard again today, July 5th, when the court will issue a ruling on the bail application.

This incident follows another case on Wednesday where a suspect facing similar charges related to the looting of Baniyas Square club was initially granted Sh10 million bail, which was later reduced to Sh200,000 cash bail with an alternative of Sh150,000 upon review by a higher court.
