Rigathi Gachagua Rejects High Court’s Ksh50 Million Reward, Vows To Fight On For Constitutional Supremacy

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly rejected the Ksh50 million constitutional damages awarded to him by the High Court, calling the financial settlement a mockery of justice and an insult to his fundamental freedoms.

“We Are Not Interested”

The three-judge bench consisting of Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi had ruled that while the Senate’s final vote to remove Gachagua met the statutory thresholds, his right to a fair hearing was explicitly violated due to procedural irregularities during the trial. To vindicate his dignity and deter future violations by Parliament, the bench ordered the Senate to pay Gachagua Ksh50 million.

However, the former Deputy President dismissed the state-backed payout, stating that a constitutional transgression cannot be bought off with a taxpayer-funded check.

“The Ksh50 million awarded to me is an insult to my fundamental rights and freedom and a mockery of the constitution,” Gachagua declared. “We are not interested. Money was never the issue here; justice and supremacy were.”

Standing on Principle Over Financial Compromise

Gachagua emphasized that accepting a monetary award while his substantive removal from office remains upheld would compromise the core motivation of his petitions. He positioned his defiance as a stand for future generations of leaders who might face targeted legislative ousters.

“I am one Kenyan leader who cannot be swayed by promises of money to allow violation of the constitution,” the former DP stated firmly. “I stand as a matter of principle to protect the constitutional rights and defend the Constitution.”

Shifting Focus to the Higher Courts

Legal analysts note that by rejecting the damages, Gachagua’s legal team is signaling an immediate intent to challenge the High Court’s split logic at the Court of Appeal.

His defense team has consistently argued that if a court formally establishes that a petitioner’s right to a fair hearing was fundamentally breached during an administrative or legislative trial, the only legally sound remedy under administrative law is to nullify the entire proceeding (void ab initio) rather than treating a constitutional violation as a compensable injury.

While the High Court hoped its hefty financial award would strike a balance between punishing legislative overreach and maintaining executive stability, Gachagua’s refusal to accept the funds has re-ignited intense debate regarding due process, judicial remedies, and the rule of law across Kenya’s political landscape.

President Ruto Claims He’s Not Worried About ”One Term” Chants

Unfazed by mounting political backlash, President William Ruto has launched a scathing attack on his detractors—including his former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and opposition leaders—dismissing them as “incompetent” leaders who achieved nothing during their own time in power.

Speaking during a fierce media roundtable at the Wajir State Lodge on Monday evening, June 1, 2026, the Head of State brushed off criticism surrounding his administration’s performance and the decision to host the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations in Northern Kenya.

Exposing Wajir’s Historical Neglect

President Ruto used the severe infrastructure deficits of the host county to take a direct swipe at Gachagua and past leadership regimes. He pointed out that despite previous administrations holding power for years, Wajir has been left to grapple with daily electricity rationing, a non-existent public sewerage system, severe water scarcity, and completely dilapidated feeder and highway networks.

The President argued that the very leaders now shouting the loudest from the sidelines are the ones responsible for this historical marginalization.

“Those who are complaining about us holding Madaraka here have done absolutely nothing in that part of the world,” Ruto fired back. “It is my administration that is changing Northern Kenya practically with roads, electricity, water, housing, and markets.”

“They Will Blame Everybody Except Their Own Ignorance”

In an unusually blunt assessment of his political opponents, the Head of State accused the opposition and internal critics of lacking a coherent national agenda, vision, or alternative policy framework. He asserted that their continuous attacks are merely a smokescreen to hide their past governance failures.

“It just confirms to you that those people have no vision, agenda, or plans,” the President stated emphatically. “They have nothing to offer except criticism for the sake of it. They will blame everybody except their own ignorance and incompetence. When they had an opportunity to lead, they did nothing. So I do not think we should bother ourselves with them. Those ones are just wasting our time.”

The President’s aggressive defense comes at a highly volatile political hour, as his administration simultaneously navigates intense street protests over femicide, missing children, and a controversial U.S.-funded Ebola isolation facility in Laikipia. By digging in his heels at the Wajir media roundtable, Ruto signaled that he has no intention of slowing down his administration’s development blueprint or accommodating the demands of his political rivals.

Gachagua Claims Elite Presidential Escort Unit Is “Ethnicised” And Demoralised By Graft Following Ruto Stage Breach

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a stinging critique against the government following the recent presidential security breach, warning that any failure to protect President William Ruto risks plunging the country into an unprecedented national crisis.

Speaking during a fiery press briefing on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Gachagua stated that while the political opposition remains determined to oust President Ruto, they intend to do so strictly through democratic means, making the Head of State’s physical safety paramount.

“He Must Be Safe”

Gachagua noted that he usually avoids discussing VIP security protocols in public to avoid compromised situations, but felt compelled to break his silence given the gravity of the recent stage breach in Kilifi.

“His security and wellbeing is a very important ingredient of our political stability… He must be safe,” Gachagua emphasized, warning that any harm coming to the President would trigger a political and social crisis “of great magnitude.”

He reiterated that political competitors want to defeat Ruto “through the ballot, not any other method.”

Fierce Attack on Murkomen and Police Chiefs

The former Deputy President did not mince his words regarding the leadership at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, training his sights directly on Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. Gachagua characterized the CS as “naive, childish, and juvenile,” arguing that the critical security docket is being mismanaged by politically ambitious individuals.

He claimed that the nation’s top security chiefs face immense difficulties briefing the CS due to his lack of administrative depth. Gachagua further asserted that in a functioning democracy, both CS Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja would have already tendered their resignations over the lapse.

Allegations of Graft and Tribalism in the PEU

Beyond the political leadership, Gachagua leveled stunning allegations against the internal management of the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU). He claimed the elite unit is currently deeply demoralized, highly “ethnicised,” and riddled with operational corruption.

According to Gachagua, there are widespread frustrations within the ranks regarding unpaid allowances, alongside disturbing claims that junior officers are being forced to kick back a percentage of their stipends to senior commanders.

He urgently called on the government to clear all outstanding dues owed to the presidential detail, imploring President Ruto to step back and “allow professionals” to handle his protection without political interference.

Dismissing the UDA Apology

Turning to the political arena, Gachagua dismissed the recent public apology issued by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar over controversial remarks.

The former DP claimed the apology was disingenuous, alleging that Omar’s initial statements were actually deliberated upon and cleared during high-level meetings at State House, Mombasa. According to Gachagua, the remarks and the subsequent backtracking are all part of a heavily coordinated political script orchestrated by the ruling regime.

Gachagua Embarks On UK And US Tour To Secure 2027 Campaign Funding

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua is scheduled to depart for the United Kingdom on Friday, May 15, 2026. The high-profile trip marks the beginning of an international resource-mobilization strategy aimed at financing the party’s operations ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former Deputy President shared details of the mission during the funeral service of Ann Nyatoro Ndung’u, mother to East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega. Gachagua explained that the UK visit is focused on building strategic networks and engaging partners willing to support the DCP’s financial requirements for the upcoming polls.

A Global Strategy for 2027

The United Kingdom visit is just the first leg of a broader international tour. Gachagua confirmed that following his return from London, he will travel to the United States to address the party’s remaining financial gaps.

During a press briefing on May 12, the DCP leader emphasized that building a robust financial base is essential for the party to emerge as a dominant force in the next electoral cycle.

“This is why I will leave for the United Kingdom on Friday night… thereafter, I will come back then go to the United States again to talk to our friends and partners,” Gachagua stated. “We must put money together for elections; we cannot afford to fail.”

Strengthening the DCP Machinery

The move signals an aggressive shift in the DCP’s preparations as it seeks to position itself as a formidable alternative in the 2027 contest. By seeking support from the diaspora and international partners, Gachagua aims to ensure the party has the necessary infrastructure and logistical capacity to compete at a national level.

The foreign tours highlight the increasing importance of the international community and the Kenyan diaspora in shaping the financial landscape of domestic politics as the race to succeed or challenge the current administration intensifies.

Senate Defends Gachagua Impeachment Process As Legal & Constitutional

The Senate has mounted a robust legal defense of its role in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, maintaining that the proceedings were conducted in strict adherence to the Constitution, existing standing orders, and applicable laws.

Presenting their submissions before the court, lawyers representing the Senate argued that the process was a legitimate exercise of its constitutional oversight mandate. They specifically pushed back against efforts by the petitioner’s legal team to equate the Senate to a traditional tribunal, describing such comparisons as “misguided.” The defense maintained that the Senate’s function in an impeachment is a unique political and constitutional oversight role, distinct from judicial or quasi-judicial bodies.

Constitutional Mandate vs. Tribunal Standards

The court was urged to view the impeachment through the specific framework provided by the Constitution rather than through the lens of ordinary legal proceedings.

“The Senate handled the proceedings in accordance with the Constitution,” the legal team submitted, emphasizing that the special oversight mandate granted to the House must be respected. They further dismissed claims of procedural delays, arguing that there was no illegality in how the motion was procured on the 16th and 17th of the month and rejecting the notion that a six-month window was required to deliberate on the matter.

National Assembly Joins Defense

The Senate’s position mirrors arguments made by the National Assembly, whose legal representatives also defended the integrity of the process. The National Assembly’s team contended that:

  • Time Sensitivity: The impeachment was a time-bound constitutional process that had to be completed within the specific windows provided by law.

  • Public Participation: Robust efforts were made to involve the citizenry, including the publication of notices in both English and Swahili to ensure diverse groups of Kenyans could submit their views prior to the vote.

The submissions come as part of an ongoing judicial review of several petitions challenging Gachagua’s removal from office. The court is currently tasked with determining whether the legislative houses adhered to all procedural requirements or if the former Deputy President’s constitutional rights were violated during the high-stakes political transition.

Gachagua Calls Out World Leaders At Nairobi Summit, Alleges “Transnational Repression” And Corruption

In a scathing press briefing on Tuesday, May 12, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua took aim at President William Ruto, urging visiting dignitaries to confront the Kenyan leader over alleged human rights abuses and financial irregularities.

The briefing coincided with the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, an event Gachagua dismissed as a “sideshow” designed to provide the President with political “affirmation” amidst rising domestic pressure.

Appeals to the UN and France

Gachagua directed specific, pointed messages to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and French President Emmanuel Macron, framing President Ruto as a destabilizing force in the region.

  • Message to the UN: Gachagua labeled Ruto as “the greatest threat to Kenyan democracy,” alleging that under his watch, Kenya has become a “global hub for abductions and human trafficking.”

  • Transnational Repression: He cited the 2025 abduction of Tanzanian journalist Maria Sarungi in Nairobi, alongside cases involving Turkish asylum seekers and Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye, as evidence of a dangerous trend in “transnational repression.”

  • Regional Security: He further accused the President of exacerbating regional conflicts, specifically mentioning the crisis in Sudan.

The “Mau Summit” Road Controversy

A significant portion of Gachagua’s address focused on Kenya’s bilateral ties with France. He alleged that French firms were the beneficiaries of a highly irregular compensation payout following the cancellation of the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit road project.

“Mr. Emmanuel Macron, you are an accomplice,” Gachagua claimed, referring to the fiscal fallout of the cancelled contract.

Key Allegations:

  • The Contract: Originally awarded to French firms for Ksh 159.27 billion in 2020, the project was cancelled by the Ruto administration before construction began.

  • The Diversion: Gachagua claimed that Ksh 7.3 billion to Ksh 7.5 billion was diverted from the Fuel Levy Fund—a move he says was flagged by the Auditor General—to pay compensation to these French firms.

  • The Switch: He alleged the project was subsequently handed to a Chinese contractor at a higher cost, despite a reduction in the project’s overall scope.

Shifting Alliances: The Ksh 150 Billion Deals

Gachagua’s criticisms come just as President Ruto and President Macron finalized 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth approximately Ksh 150 billion. These agreements are set to overhaul Kenya’s infrastructure and energy sectors.

Gachagua Moves To Block Supreme Court Appeal Over Impeachment Bench Dispute

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has moved to the Supreme Court to strike out an appeal concerning the empanelment of the High Court bench handling his impeachment petitions. In a preliminary objection filed on May 11, 2026, Gachagua’s legal team argued that the matter is now “moot” and should be dismissed.

The core of the dispute involves whether the Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) had the constitutional authority to empanel a bench, or if that power belongs exclusively to the Chief Justice (CJ) under Article 165(4).

The Argument: A Dispute “Overtaken by Events”

Represented by Kamotho Njomo & Company, Gachagua contends that the controversy is no longer a “live” issue. He points to several key developments that have rendered the appeal unnecessary:

  • Prior Ruling: On May 9, 2025, the Court of Appeal quashed the DCJ’s initial orders and directed the Chief Justice to properly empanel the bench.

  • CJ’s Intervention: Chief Justice Martha Koome has since reconstituted the bench, appointing Justices Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi.

  • Active Proceedings: All parties have already submitted to this new bench, filed their arguments, and participated in extensive hearings.

Gachagua argues that a Supreme Court intervention now would serve no practical purpose other than to disrupt ongoing proceedings.

“The question of bench composition is moot… any judgment by the apex court would amount to an advisory opinion on an abstract constitutional issue,” his submissions stated.

Constitutional Interpretation

While Gachagua wants the appeal thrown out on the grounds of being non-justiciable, he also offered an alternative defense of the Court of Appeal’s previous decision. He maintains that the power to assign judges is a judicial function, not merely an administrative one, and should remain strictly with the Chief Justice unless exceptional circumstances—such as the CJ’s death or resignation—occur.

Why This Matters

The outcome of this objection will determine if the Supreme Court will weigh in on the procedural technicalities of how the impeachment cases were set up. Gachagua asserts that the public interest is best served by maintaining the stability of the current bench rather than reopening a legal battle over its formation.

The case remains a central pillar of the legal fallout following attempts to remove Gachagua from office, with related petitions still active in both Nairobi and Kerugoya.

Gachagua Demands Over Ksh 80M In Benefits Following Ouster

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has moved to court to demand a staggering financial settlement exceeding Ksh 80 million, marking a fresh escalation in his legal battle against the 2024 impeachment. As the substantive hearing of his petition opened at the Milimani High Court, Gachagua’s legal team made it clear that they are seeking full restitution for what they term a “fraudulent” removal from office.

The demand includes backdated salaries, gratuity, and a host of retirement benefits that Gachagua argues he is entitled to, maintaining that his term was cut short through an unconstitutional and politically motivated process.

Breaking Down the Ksh 80 Million Claim

Gachagua’s legal team, led by Senior Counsel Paul Muite, argued that because the impeachment was fundamentally flawed, the former Deputy President should be treated as though he served his full term or, at the very least, be compensated for the loss of office.

The financial package being pursued reportedly covers several key areas. It includes the accumulated monthly salary and generous allowances he would have received from the time of his ouster in October 2024 through the end of the current term. Additionally, it seeks the multi-million shilling gratuity payment typically awarded to a departing Deputy President, along with lifetime benefits such as security, medical insurance, fuel allowances, and personal staff—perks that were summarily withdrawn following the Senate’s vote to remove him.

“Justice Is Not Just About the Seat”

During the proceedings before a three-judge bench comprising Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi, the defense emphasized that the case is about the restoration of dignity and the rule of law.

Gachagua maintains that the 2024 trial was a “travesty of justice” because it proceeded while he was hospitalized and unable to defend himself. By demanding the Ksh 80 million-plus settlement, Gachagua is effectively asking the judiciary to invalidate the financial penalties of his impeachment, even as he continues to lead the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) from the political cold.

The Government’s Counter-Stance

The State, represented by the Attorney General’s office, has previously moved to dismiss such claims, arguing that Gachagua was legally removed and that his entitlements ceased the moment the Senate upheld the charges against him. The government maintains that the appointment and swearing-in of Kithure Kindiki as his successor effectively closed the chapter on Gachagua’s tenure.

High Stakes for 2027

Beyond the money, the outcome of this case holds massive political weight. If the court finds the impeachment was illegal and awards the damages, it could potentially clear Gachagua’s path to run for office in the 2027 General Election.

As the hearing continues, the public remains divided on whether the former “Riggy G” is entitled to a golden parachute or if the demand is an attempt to stay relevant in a fast-evolving political landscape. For now, the High Court must decide if a deputy president removed by Parliament can still walk away with a multi-million shilling fortune.

Gachagua Set For New Legal Battle To Overturn “Fraudulent” Impeachment

Rigathi Gachagua, the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has announced a fresh legal offensive to challenge his 2024 removal from the Office of the Deputy President. Speaking in Bamburi, Mombasa County, on Sunday, Gachagua maintained that his impeachment was a “fraudulent and illegal” process that violated the Constitution. Despite his family’s reservations due to the public humiliation he faced, Gachagua expressed unwavering confidence in the judiciary’s ability to rectify the situation.

“Watertight Case”: Gachagua’s New Petition

Gachagua revealed that his legal team has spent months building a comprehensive case to prove that his ousting lacked constitutional merit. He emphasized that his return to court is a quest for justice, not just for himself, but for his supporters.

“I told my children about it and they opposed it, saying I faced humiliation. They were traumatized that a man we had helped to be President was embarrassing us… But we have faith that three judges will do what is right and apply the law.” — Rigathi Gachagua

Allegations of Bribery and Impunity

The DCP leader received vocal support from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who accompanied him to the coast. Musyoka made explosive claims regarding the conduct of the National Assembly and the Senate during the impeachment proceedings. He alleged that some lawmakers were offered between Ksh 10 million and Ksh 20 million to vote in favor of the impeachment. Furthermore, the Wiper leader asserted that these “illegalities” would be exposed during the court sessions, claiming some legislators have already confessed to receiving bribes.

A Look Back: The Constitutional Deadlock

The battle over Gachagua’s removal has been mired in procedural disputes since October 2024. A key point of contention remains the formation of the bench that initially heard his petition. Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu appointed Justices Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi to hear the case, but Gachagua’s legal team argued this was unconstitutional, maintaining that only the Chief Justice possesses the authority to empanel such a bench. Consequently, proceedings were previously postponed following a Court of Appeal decision, leaving Gachagua’s status in a legal gray area.

Looking Toward 2027

Rigathi Gachagua holds the historic distinction of being the first Deputy President impeached under the 2010 Constitution, serving the shortest term in that office to date. Having moved on from the Kenya Kwanza administration, Gachagua is now a central figure in a United Opposition front. This coalition has publicly vowed to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, framing Gachagua’s legal battle as the first step in ousting the current administration from power. The petition is expected to be filed between Monday and Wednesday this week.

Gachagua Hits Back At Rutos Defense Of Fuel Price Hike

The political landscape in Kenya has reached a boiling point following a historic spike in fuel prices. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, now leading the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, alleging that the President is personally profiting from the misery of Kenyans.

Here is an overview of the situation and the specific allegations made by Gachagua.

The Allegation: A “Billion-Shilling Windfall”

In a series of explosive statements issued in mid-April 2026, Gachagua accused the Ruto administration of orchestrating a fuel scandal through the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) oil deal.

The Key Claims:

  • The “5 Shilling” Kickback: Gachagua alleges that President Ruto stands to gain approximately KSh 5 per litre of fuel consumed in the country.

  • Massive Profits: Based on national consumption levels, Gachagua claims this translates to roughly KSh 2.5 billion per month, and as much as KSh 30 billion since the G-to-G arrangement began.

  • Proxy Companies: The former DP has publicly named companies like Gulf Energy and Stabex International, alleging they act as intermediaries that facilitate these irregular gains for the executive.

”Kenyans are paying for a system where public policy and private gain have been dangerously intertwined.” — Rigathi Gachagua, April 15, 2026.

Context: The April 2026 Price Shock

The accusations come on the heels of one of the largest single-month fuel price increases in Kenya’s history. On April 14, 2026, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced:

  • Super Petrol: Increased by KSh 28.69 (Retailing at KSh 206.97).

  • Diesel: Increased by KSh 40.30 (Retailing at an all-time high of KSh 206.84).

While the government attributes these hikes to a global supply shock caused by Middle East tensions—specifically disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz—Gachagua argues the “landed cost” is being artificially inflated by domestic political interests.

The Government’s Defense and Response

President Ruto and his allies have dismissed Gachagua’s claims as “political jealousy” and “malice.” To counter the public outcry, the President took the following steps:

  1. VAT Reduction: Assented to the VAT Amendment Bill 2026, which temporarily slashes VAT on fuel from 16% to 8% for three months.

  1. Price Stabilization: Deployed KSh 6.2 billion from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) to prevent petrol from hitting even higher marks (estimates suggested petrol could have reached KSh 260 without intervention).

  1. Legal Action: Private companies mentioned in Gachagua’s speeches, such as Stabex, have sued him for defamation, demanding a public retraction

Gachagua Accuses Ruto Of Hiking Fuel Prices To Enrich Himself

In an explosive statement issued on April 15, 2026, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—now leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)—accused President William Ruto of orchestrating “one of the greatest fuel scandals in the history of independent Kenya”.
Gachagua’s “biggest heist” allegations center on the government-to-government (G-to-G) fuel deal and recent price hikes.

Profit Allegations

Gachagua claimed that following the April 14, 2026, fuel price hike, President Ruto would personally earn Ksh 5 for every litre of fuel consumed in the country, totaling approximately Ksh 2.5 billion.
Criminal Enterprise: He described the entire energy value chain under the current administration as a “criminal enterprise”, alleging that the G-to-G framework was designed to benefit handpicked companies linked to senior officials.

Fuel Price Spike

The criticism followed a massive increase in pump prices by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), where petrol rose by Ksh 28.69 and diesel by Ksh 40.30 per litre.
Ultimatum and Protests: Gachagua and the “United Opposition” have issued a seven-day ultimatum for the government to scrap the G-to-G deal and address the high taxes (including the 8% VAT and fuel levy), threatening nationwide mass action if demands are not met.
Resignation Demands: He further demanded the resignation of Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, accusing him of political responsibility for the “failed” system and irregularities in the sector.

President Ruto previously defended the G-to-G arrangement, stating it was a critical intervention designed to stabilize the energy sector and shield the economy from external shocks

Tension As Gachagua And Ruto Exchange Insults In Public

The political landscape in Kenya has shifted from hushed tensions to an all-out public confrontation. In late March and early April 2026, President William Ruto and his former Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, traded sharp barbs in a series of highly publicized encounters that have signaled the definitive end of their once-solid “Umoja” alliance.
The friction reached a fever pitch on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, during the burial service of former Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in Nyandarua. This event marked the first time the two leaders faced each other publicly since Gachagua’s impeachment in late 2024.
1. The Nyandarua Face-Off: “Betrayal is Not Forgiven”
Standing just meters away from the President, a fiery Gachagua—now leading the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP)—delivered a blunt “lecture” to his former boss. He accused the President of betraying the Mt. Kenya region, which was instrumental in his 2022 victory.
The “Mugumo Tree” Metaphor: Gachagua told Ruto that while he was successfully removed from the DP’s office, removing him from the hearts of the people was “like trying to cut a Mugumo (fig) tree with a razor blade.”
The Tribalism Debate: Gachagua took issue with Ruto labeling certain political stances as “tribal,” reminding the President that the Mt. Kenya community voted for a “William Ruto” and not a “Kamau” or “Njoroge,” proving they were not tribalists when they supported him.
The “Bad Advisors” Narrative: Gachagua singled out National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, accusing him of being a “child” leading the President into a political pit.
2. Ruto’s Rebuttal: From Policy to Personality
President Ruto has not remained silent. During recent tours in Western Kenya (Vihiga and Bungoma), the President escalated the rhetoric, shifting from development talk to personal swipes.
Body Shaming Allegations: In a move that sparked significant social media debate, Ruto made remarks about his opponents’ physical appearances, telling them to “reduce where they eat” and stop “polluting the air” at rallies.
The “Political Tribalism” Charge: Ruto maintained that his former deputy was removed from Parliament precisely because of “tribalism” and vowed that Gachagua would “never lead anybody in this country” again.
Direct Dismissal: Ruto dismissed the criticism of his administration, suggesting that Gachagua and other opposition figures were merely “bitter” over failed business dealings and lost tenders.

Gachagua Gets Personal As He Mocks Ruto’s Physique- ‘Amekonda’

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has celebrated a recent verbal exchange with President William Ruto, claiming he successfully provoked the Head of State into abandoning his presidential decorum. Speaking at a public engagement in Mau Narok, Nakuru County, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the leader of the Democracy for the Citizens party mocked the President’s recent remarks directed at opposition figures.

“Pressed Like a Cornered Rat”

Addressing a crowd in Njoro Constituency, Gachagua likened the President’s aggressive tone to that of a “cornered rat.” He took full credit for the shift in Ruto’s communication style, suggesting that his consistent criticism of the administration has forced the President to descend to the level of social media bloggers and propaganda peddlers.

“I have pressed him until he is crying like a rat,” Gachagua told the residents. He argued that his goal was to make the President lose his temper and “cool,” effectively stripping away the “presidential” aura expected of his office. According to the former Mathira MP, seeing the President engage in personal attacks and rumors is proof that his strategy of provocation is working.

Criticizing the “Blogger-Level” Rhetoric

Gachagua expressed satisfaction that the President has moved from discussing policy to focusing on the personal lives of his rivals. He specifically pointed to Ruto’s comments regarding the marital status and domestic affairs of opposition members as evidence that the Head of State is now “peddling rumors and fitina (discord).”

“He is no longer presidential,” Gachagua stated, using the nickname ‘Kasongo’ to refer to the President. “He has reached the level I wanted him to be—a man of propaganda.”

Ruto’s Offensive in Mt. Elgon

The reaction from Gachagua follows a fiery speech by President Ruto earlier that day in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon. During his tour, the President launched a blistering attack on the united opposition, mocking their physical fitness and lifestyle choices.

Ruto advised several opposition leaders to “go to the gym,” accusing them of overindulging in food and sleeping during important meetings. He further escalated the personal nature of the exchange by advising one specific politician—whom he claimed survives on inheritance—to focus on building a house, finding a wife, and buying diapers rather than critiquing the government.

This escalating war of words marks a significant shift in the political landscape as the 2027 elections draw closer, with both sides moving away from formal policy debates toward highly personalized public confrontations.

Gachagua Accuses Ruto Of Planning Attack On Him At Nyeri Church

In a shocking escalation of political tension in Kenya, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged a state-sponsored assassination attempt following a violent confrontation at the Witima ACK Church (also identified as St. Peter’s ACK or Wairima ACK) in Othaya, Nyeri County, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

The Siege at Witima Church

The incident unfolded around 11:00 AM as Gachagua, now the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), attended a Sunday service. According to witnesses and reports from the scene, a group of approximately 15 armed men—some in masks and others in plain clothes—stormed the church premises. The attackers reportedly used a combination of live ammunition and tear gas, filling the sanctuary with smoke and forcing a terrified congregation of men, women, and children to scramble for safety.

Gachagua, who was whisked away by his private security team through a nearby thicket and forested terrain to evade the attackers, issued a desperate plea on social media during the height of the chaos:

”William Ruto has sent a killer squad to kill us inside Witima ACK church, Othaya. We are marooned in church, being attacked with live bullets and tear gas, and they torched my vehicles. We ask Kenyans to pray for us to come out alive.”

Allegations of State Involvement

The former Deputy President, who was ousted from office in 2024, has directly accused President William Ruto of orchestrating the raid. In a subsequent news conference held at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua dismissed claims that the event was stage-managed, questioning how a civilian group could gain access to AK-47 assault rifles and police-grade tear gas.

A whistleblower, purportedly a police officer involved in the operation, claimed the mission was planned in Nairobi with orders to “injure” the DCP leader, while local police were allegedly instructed not to intervene.

Aftermath and Reactions

The violence left behind a trail of destruction, including destruction of vehicles in Gachagua’s convoy.

Political figures, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Speaker Justin Muturi, have condemned the attack, calling it a “grave violation of the Constitution” and a desecration of a sacred place of worship.

This confrontation marks a significant turning point as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election, highlighting the deepening rift between the current administration and its former second-in-command.

Government Fires Back At Gachagua Over “Reckless” Minnesota Fraud Allegations

The Kenyan government has officially responded to explosive claims made by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, who accused President William Ruto’s administration of benefiting from funds stolen in a U.S.-based fraud scheme.

The allegations were leveled by Gachagua on Sunday, January 4, 2026, during a church service in Githunguri, Kiambu County. He claimed that millions of dollars meant for people with disabilities in Minnesota were diverted to Kenya to fund political campaigns and real estate projects, including a prominent mall in Eastleigh.

“Dangerous and Regressive Politics”

In a stern rebuttal issued on Monday, January 5, Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui termed the allegations as “reckless and alarming.” Kinyanjui questioned Gachagua’s sudden “discovery” of these claims, pointing out that the former Deputy President was Ruto’s own running mate during the period he now questions.

The CS criticized Gachagua’s call for foreign intervention, describing it as a desperate attempt to settle domestic political scores at the expense of Kenya’s international reputation.

“How can a leader seek to throw his own country into the deep end merely to score personal revenge? This brand of politics is regressive and dangerous,” Kinyanjui stated. “It reflects raw greed and naivety in handling matters that could have potentially catastrophic consequences.”

The “Minnesota Scheme” Claims

Despite the government’s dismissal, Gachagua doubled down on his narrative, alleging that the U.S. government is already tracking the “stolen” assets. According to Gachagua. He alleged that a mall in Eastleigh was built using the proceeds of the fraud and belongs to a close business associate of the President. He claimed that a portion of the contested funds was funneled directly into President Ruto’s campaign machinery. Gachagua made a direct plea to U.S. President Donald Trump to bypass standard extradition protocols. He urged the U.S. to conduct a “Venezuela-style” operation to pick up suspects from Kenyan soil and fly them to America for prosecution.

Diplomatic Repercussions

While CS Kinyanjui noted that criminal investigations fall outside his docket, he warned that Gachagua’s rhetoric carries “serious diplomatic implications.” He cautioned that inviting foreign powers to infringe on Kenyan sovereignty for political gain is a “reckless” move that could harm the nation’s standing with international partners.

The public exchange marks a significant escalation in the fallout between the President and his former deputy, as the “Minnesota fraud” case becomes a central theme in Kenya’s intensifying 2026 political landscape.

Raila’s Whereabouts Unknown As Gachagua Slams ODM For ‘Amateurish’ Response

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly questioned the health status and the “medical holiday” of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is currently abroad in an undisclosed location.

In an interview on KTN on Sunday, October 5, Gachagua dismissed the letter issued by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretariat attempting to explain Odinga’s absence, calling it an “amateurish” way to handle public speculation.

Gachagua argued that if a leader’s health is in question, the only way to provide clarity is through optics, not written statements. He advised Odinga to take a lesson from the late former President Daniel Arap Moi, who would publicly engage in strenuous activities to silence rumors about his health.

“If you feel that the rumours are bothering you… you do not need to write a letter. All you need to do is participate in a few activities here and there,” Gachagua noted. He recalled that Moi would quell rumors simply by taking a brisk public walk.

The former Deputy President argued that ODM’s statement, which failed to explicitly reveal Odinga’s whereabouts or condition, only fueled more speculation.

Political Rivalry and a Prayer for 2027

Despite his sharp critique, Gachagua maintained that he wished Odinga good health for the next general election. He revealed a surprising political calculus for the United Opposition he now leads.

“My prayer is that God gives Raila long life and good health. I pray to God that he supports William Ruto so that we defeat both of them in 2027,” he stated, positioning the United Opposition to contend against both the sitting President and the long-time opposition leader.

ODM vs. United Opposition Over Rumors

Gachagua’s sentiments came amid a flurry of exchanges between ODM and other political factions regarding Odinga’s extended public absence, which has led to the postponement of ODM’s 20th-anniversary celebrations.

In their statement earlier on Sunday, the ODM Secretariat accused the United Opposition, which includes Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Eugene Wamalwa, of intentionally spreading “misinformation on the health of former Prime Minister” for political gain.

Wiper Party, however, quickly dismissed ODM’s counter-allegations, with Secretary General Shakila Aballa describing the claims as “baseless, desperate, and a distraction from ODM’s own internal chaos.” This ongoing back-and-forth highlights how Odinga’s health has dominated the country’s current political conversation.

Gachagua’s Motorcade Reportedly Attacked By Goons After Leaving JKIA

Following his highly-anticipated return to Kenya, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s motorcade was reportedly attacked by a group of youths as it made its way from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) along the Mombasa Road. The chaotic scenes led to a confrontation between the attackers and Gachagua’s supporters, with police intervening to disperse the crowds.

According to reports from multiple media outlets, the incident occurred at the City Cabanas stage, where unidentified individuals on motorcycles allegedly began pelting the convoy with stones and other projectiles. The attack caused damage to several vehicles, including those carrying journalists, and resulted in injuries to a number of Gachagua’s supporters and other motorists caught in the crossfire.

The violence came as a stark contrast to the earlier part of the procession, which had been largely peaceful. Hundreds of Gachagua’s supporters had gathered at JKIA to welcome him back from a four-week political tour in the United States, creating a long and enthusiastic procession from the airport.

Police responded to the chaos by firing tear gas to disperse the crowd and restore order. The attack disrupted traffic for a significant period and prompted condemnations from Gachagua’s political allies, who accused his rivals of orchestrating the violence. The incident has added another layer of political tension to Gachagua’s return, highlighting the deep divisions that characterize the country’s political landscape.

CS Murkomen Demands Gachagua Record Statement On Terrorism Claims, Gachagua Rejects Call

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly demanded that Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding his recent allegations on terrorism. The demand, which has also been supported by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, was swiftly rejected by Gachagua, who is currently on a political tour in the United States.

Gachagua, who began his US tour on July 11, 2025, sparked the controversy by challenging President William Ruto to explain why he allegedly met with three Al-Shabaab militia at night to discuss “business.” The DCP leader also speculated that the government’s decision to remove the vetting requirement for non-Kenyans seeking identity cards was a move with ulterior motives.

Speaking in Narok, CS Murkomen firmly stated that Gachagua must not be allowed to tarnish the country’s image and that of the police service with unsubstantiated claims. “Unless he has a mental problem, he must come and put all those allegations on record,” Murkomen said, adding that Gachagua must defend his claims or be held accountable. The CS also pointed out the perceived hypocrisy in Gachagua’s remarks, noting that he had previously praised the police just a year ago.

In a swift rebuttal from the US, Gachagua dismissed the demand, stating he would not cooperate with Kenyan authorities. He claimed that the “American Senate” is actively investigating the matter and that he would only assist their investigations. Gachagua argued that the Kenyan government cannot objectively investigate the President because police officers work under him, a conflict of interest that he said compromises the integrity of any local probe.

The public clash between the senior government officials and the opposition leader continues to intensify, with Gachagua’s refusal to cooperate setting the stage for a prolonged political and legal standoff.

Rigathi Gachagua Grilled By Gen Zs On U.S. Tour Over Divisive Politics

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua encountered an unexpectedly unbending audience during his recent tour of the United States, forcing him to confront tough questions about his political approach. During an engagement with Kenyans in Baltimore on July 27, Gachagua faced a nail-biting situation as young attendees rigorously grilled him on his political agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Valentine Wanjiru Githae, identifying herself as a representative of the youth-led “625 Movement,” directly challenged Gachagua on what she described as his divisive rhetoric, particularly concerning the advancement of the Kikuyu community.

“If we position ourselves as Kikuyus, another tribe will also do that, and before we know it, we are back to the same problem. We cannot say that people from other tribes are not hardworking. We have that sense of entitlement as Kikuyus, and it has to stop,” Githae asserted.

She pressed Gachagua further on his “mountain narrative,” questioning its relevance to the younger generation:

“If we GenZs don’t understand the mountain narrative, how are you going to engage us and find a way to position this politics beyond the ‘Wantam’ narrative? The politics being done now is the way it was done 20 years ago and that is what is scaring us.”

In response, Gachagua maintained his stance, stating his belief that there is a “persecution and discrimination” against Kenyans from the Mt. Kenya region, necessitating swift action to protect them. He then attempted to align with the youth, asserting that Gen Zs are a formidable, “tribeless and fearless” force who “will help us deal with that nonsense.”

The former Deputy President also faced scrutiny from another young man who questioned his trustworthiness, given his previous staunch defense of the government before his impeachment. This direct challenge underscored the deep skepticism among some youth regarding his political consistency and leadership.

Gachagua Criticized For Advising Kenyans Abroad Not To Send Money Back To Kenya

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has strongly criticized Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua over controversial remarks made during his recent visit to the United States. Gachagua’s directive, urging Kenyans from the Mt Kenya region not to send foreign remittances back to Kenya until a new government takes over in 2027, has sparked widespread backlash, with Sudi terming the statement “reckless and dangerous.”

Sudi accused the former Deputy President of actively sowing division and undermining national unity at a time when Kenya is already grappling with significant political tensions.

“You want to tell people from the mountain to keep their money in their pockets and wait for you until 2027? I think you have a mental issue. How do you even say something like that?” Sudi posed emphatically, questioning Gachagua’s judgment.

The MP further warned that such utterances could severely harm the country’s economy and derail crucial progress made in mobilizing diaspora investments, which are a significant source of national revenue.

Meanwhile, Gachagua, during his US tour, claimed that the perceived rift between President William Ruto and the Mt Kenya region had played a major role in destabilizing the country’s economy. He argued that the Kenya Kwanza government could not effectively function if citizens from the Mt Kenya diaspora continued to withhold their remittances. According to the former Deputy President, the move to withhold remittances was a deliberate form of economic resistance, insisting that Mt Kenya’s contribution to the national economy had been consistently undervalued. He maintained that the region possessed the financial muscle abroad to significantly influence national stability.

Gachagua, who was impeached as Deputy President in October 2024, further maintained that efforts by the Kenya Kwanza leadership to politically sideline him had failed. He accused them of attempting to divide the Mt Kenya region through strategic appointments and targeted smear campaigns.

“They tried to dismantle my support base, but the mountain has stood firm,” he asserted. He continued, “I want to tell you the government has failed economically. We have withheld our money back at home, and I urge you to do the same that you are doing here,” he added, punctuating his address with these highly controversial remarks.

However, the former Mathira MP’s statements have triggered sharp political backlash back home, with critics widely accusing him of exploiting the Mt Kenya region’s economic power to push his personal political agenda rather than addressing genuine national concerns.

Rigathi Gachagua’s Tribute To KK Mwenyewe Sparks Intense Online Backlash Over “Performative Mourning”

Kenya is currently witnessing a wave of intense online backlash following former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s tribute to the late TikTok comedian Zachariah Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe. Instead of being met with sympathy and condolences, Gachagua’s message has triggered a storm of criticism, with many Kenyans accusing him of “performative mourning” and perceived neglect of the young comedian during his lifetime.

Gachagua posted the tribute on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, July 15, describing the 23-year-old content creator as “a content creator par excellence” whose unique brand of comedy had deeply resonated with Kenyans. The post included a poignant black-and-white image of KK in a suit, adjusting his jacket—a formal portrait seemingly chosen to honor the young comedian’s significant contribution to the digital space.

However, public sentiment turned sour almost immediately. Numerous Kenyans flooded the comment section, slamming Gachagua for allegedly ignoring KK Mwenyewe when he was alive and only acknowledging his talent and impact after his tragic death.

“Too Little, Too Late”: Online Reaction to Gachagua’s Condolence

The online reaction quickly coalesced around a pervasive sense of “too little, too late.” X user @BookTen set the critical tone, writing:

“You failed to recognize him when he was alive. He tried to reach out, but you ignored. Let those who stood with him mourn in peace.” Another user, @WillieOeba, directly echoed this sentiment, accusing the politician of hypocrisy: “You ignored him when he was alive. Stop these sideshows.”

Many users specifically referred to past incidents where Gachagua had allegedly shown public support for a female content creator, Ivy Chelimo (who famously coined the nickname ‘Riggy G’), over KK Mwenyewe, despite KK’s widespread popularity stemming directly from his impersonations of Gachagua himself. @kafangi wrote: “You chose that lady over him. You could have supported both.” The criticism intensified with more personal jabs and pointed questions about the sincerity of the tribute.

@GeorgeiQwatson remarked: “You ignored him at the expense of the nickname queen. Hapo aje sasa @rigathi.” @AtwoliiYa directly posed: “So now you condole… what will you do to help the family?”

A poignant philosophical take that resonated with many was offered by @Friday, highlighting the often-unseen struggles of creatives: “Being a man is hard. You’re loved most when gone.” While the overwhelming tone was critical and accusatory towards Gachagua, a few users offered a broader reflection on societal behavior and the belated recognition often afforded to male creatives during their lifetime: @fels1 posted: “88% of men receive their first flowers at their funeral.” @AlinurMohamed simply wrote: “To be a man…”—a sentiment that powerfully resonated with many about unrecognised male talents and the belated appreciation they often receive

Miguna Miguna Tears Into Gachagua’s Presidential Ambitions, Dismisses United Opposition

Fiery lawyer Miguna Miguna has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his newly declared political ambitions, questioning his capacity for transformative leadership. Speaking during a Citizen TV interview on Sunday, Miguna drew on their shared university days to cast doubt on Gachagua’s suitability to lead Kenya.

Miguna recalled being at the university concurrently with Gachagua in 1987, though Gachagua was a couple of years his senior. He highlighted Gachagua’s then-support for President Daniel Moi’s single-party rule, a stance that, according to Miguna, revealed Gachagua’s fundamental character. “Gachagua does not represent transformation. He can never transform anything,” Miguna claimed.

“Rigathi Gachagua is William Ruto basically because he supported Daniel Arap Moi’s one-party state in 1987 when many of us were campaigning against it. He supported that through his life and continues to support it. That is why he is with Matiang’i,” Miguna asserted, drawing a controversial parallel between Gachagua’s past and his current political associations. He further claimed that Gachagua had continued to perpetuate similar ideologies alongside his “united opposition crew,” particularly by working with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Insisting that Kenya’s current political leadership required a complete overhaul, Miguna emphatically stated that none of the members within the perceived “united opposition” were fit to serve in top roles or effectively steer the country forward. Miguna, who framed his interview as a direct rebuttal to Matiang’i’s interview from two weeks prior, claimed that their mere association with Matiang’i was clear indication that they harbored no positive plans for Kenya.

He extended his criticism to prominent figures such as Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa, claiming they were all unfit to lead the country. Miguna also opposed Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya’s eligibility, citing alleged atrocities during his tenure as a county commissioner.

For years, Miguna has consistently blamed the former Interior CS, Fred Matiang’i, for his illegal detention and eventual forced exile to Dubai in 2018, as well as for other alleged atrocities, including extrajudicial killings and the discovery of bodies dumped in River Yala during Matiang’i’s tenure.

However, Miguna seemingly threw his weight behind former Chief Justice David Maraga, praising him for his past opposition to human rights violations.

“He is a good candidate. He represents a break from the past. He is not one of the oligarchs, but to the extent that he has not revealed his manifesto, I have not spoken to him, I cannot say anything beyond that,” Miguna stated.

“But I have to say that he definitely opposes the violation of human rights that occurred in 2018 and 2022, including the ones that occurred against me. He opposed the culture of impunity that was becoming and became a systemic institutionalized and weaponized by Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, so that is a positive candidate.”

Gachagua Responds To Ruto’s Directives To Police, Urging Them To Shoot Looters

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday responded to President William Ruto’s recent directives regarding protest management, which included instructing police to use force against looters and warning those attacking police installations.

President Ruto had earlier cautioned Kenyans against torching police stations and assaulting officers, asserting that the government would take all necessary measures to ensure such actions cease.

In a subsequent press conference, former Deputy President Gachagua offered advice to President Ruto on de-escalating the country’s tense political climate.

“To President Ruto, I say this with a lot of humility: please stop being angry, the people of Kenya are far more angry than you are,” Gachagua stated.

He further suggested measures for resolution:

“If you truly want this to end, then restore the dignity of the payslip. When the middle class can breathe, they will create jobs for our young people. Stop the abductions, stop the extra-judicial killings. And if you want this to end, disband the killer squad.”

Gachagua also claimed that allies of President Ruto had threatened to prevent him from traveling to the United States, where he plans to engage with Kenyans in the Diaspora and the international community regarding the “state of the nation.”

“I want to announce to the people of Kenya that tonight I will be travelling to the United States of America to talk to the Kenyans in Diaspora and the international community about the state of the nation,” Gachagua stated. “I would have wanted to stay in the country at this very difficult time when our people are under siege, but I have engagements I am not able to postpone.”

He concluded by addressing the alleged threats:

“I have been threatened by people close to William Ruto who called some of my people today that they would like to stop me from leaving the country. I have no problem, if you want to come and arrest me at the airport as you were threatening us, I have no problem. You cannot sell fear to us and even if you do, we cannot buy.

Gachagua Challenges DCI Boss To Investigate Ichung’wah & Murkomen’s Protest Claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly challenged Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Amin Mohammed to obtain statements from Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen regarding their recent claims about the June 25 demonstrations.

Speaking at a burial service in Nyandarua County on Tuesday, July 1, Gachagua questioned why Ichung’wah has yet to record a statement with the police after alleging that his parents were targeted during the protests. He criticized the National Assembly Majority Leader for seemingly seeking public empathy instead of formally reporting such a serious accusation to the authorities.

“I have seen the DCI speaking, the Kikuyu MP went to Parliament and claimed that he knew those who wanted to take the lives of his parents. Has he written a statement to the police?” Gachagua queried. “Someone wants to kill your parents, and you casually talk about it in parliament instead of going to the police station to report,” he added.

Accusations Against Murkomen and DCI

Gachagua extended his challenge to the DCI boss, urging him to also obtain a written statement from Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen regarding the alleged mobilizers of the June 25 demonstrations. Taking a swipe at Murkomen, the former DP accused him of making false accusations against the Kikuyu ethnic group by linking them to the recent protests.

He similarly criticized the DCI boss for his apparent reluctance to summon both Ichung’wah and Murkomen, given their claims of knowing the names of those who mobilized and perpetrated last week’s protests.

“Murkomen said that those who looted and burnt property in Nairobi were from Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri. Do our people have a mark on the forehead to identify them as Mt Kenya region people?” Gachagua queried. “Why haven’t you recorded a statement from Murkomen to explain how he knew that these people are from the Mt Kenya region?”

Supremacy Battle in Mt Kenya

During the church service, Gachagua also took aim at President William Ruto, accusing him of attempting to isolate him from Mt Kenya voters, similar to how he allegedly treated former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Gachagua claimed that Ruto and his allies were bitter and resorting to state-sponsored violence to undermine the opposition. He urged the government to focus on investigating the recent protests rather than concentrating on opposition politics.

Challenging the Head of State to a supremacy battle for the Mt Kenya voters, Gachagua maintained that President Ruto had lost ground in the populous region and that there was nothing he could do to reclaim it. “You think you will threaten me. You impeached me and thought I could lose ground in Mt Kenya, can you dare come to look for votes in this region? You fell for lies by Kimani Ichung’wah, now you are vulnerable,” he commented.

Gachagua Advises Samidoh to Quit Police Job, Focus on Music Career

Rigathi Gachagua has urged popular Mugithi star and police officer Samuel Muchoki, alias Samidoh, to resign from the National Police Service and fully commit to his flourishing music career.

Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM, Gachagua addressed the ongoing disciplinary issues surrounding Samidoh, who is currently under fire for allegedly deserting his police duties while on tour in the United States.

Gachagua questioned the logic of clinging to a risky, low-paying job in law enforcement when the singer’s talent has already taken him across the globe.

“I told Samidoh this: your police salary is KSh 40,000. Yet you make about KSh 400,000 every weekend from music—that’s KSh 1.6 million a month. Why risk your life for KSh 40,000 when your music can give you safety and wealth?” he posed.

He described Samidoh as a “bright man” and encouraged him to do the math, warning that holding on to both careers might soon backfire. Gachagua also humorously noted the singer’s slim frame, joking that while he may be small in stature, he’s “a very rich man” who should prioritize his peace of mind.

The Deputy President further urged Samidoh to remain in the United States, where he’s currently on tour, promising to meet up with him during the upcoming Ngemi Festival in July.

Gachagua’s comments come amid a storm within the police service over Samidoh’s alleged absence without official leave. An internal memo from the NPS claims he failed to report back to duty after his leave ended on May 27. As a result, his salary has been suspended, and he’s now facing a formal desertion charge.

The situation escalated further after a video emerged showing Samidoh participating in a protest chant—“wantam”—a phrase increasingly used to criticize President William Ruto’s administration. As a serving officer, his actions were seen as violating the Service Standing Orders, which require political neutrality.

In response, the NPS transferred him to Gilgil in Nakuru County pending further disciplinary action.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Samidoh has responded with characteristic humor. During a TikTok Live session from the U.S., where he is accompanied by his wife Edday Nderitu, the artist downplayed the controversy.

“Can’t a man say he’s not done having children or building his family?” he quipped, referencing his domestic life.

He also poked fun at the language used in the police memo: “Who’s calling me a desert? I thought dessert is something sweet you eat after a meal.”

Calling the situation “just a passing cloud,” Samidoh shrugged off the threat of arrest and joked that whispers suggest he may not face any legal action until July—after his American tour concludes.

While critics question his professionalism, fans continue to rally behind him, praising his comedic defiance and hoping the standoff won’t cut short his soaring musical success.

Gachagua Accuses President Ruto Of Forming Secret Police Death Squad Amid Ojwang”s Death

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Rigathi Gachagua, has ignited a political firestorm by publicly accusing President William Ruto of establishing a secret police death squad responsible for targeting innocent Kenyans.

Addressing worshippers at a church service in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua alleged that this covert unit comprises 101 specially trained officers tasked with carrying out abductions, torture, assassinations, and elaborate cover-ups. He further claimed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS), under the leadership of Director General Noordin Haji, supported the formation and operation of this alleged squad.

Gachagua explicitly linked the recent death of activist Albert Ojwang’—who died in police custody under disputed circumstances—to this alleged group. He suggested that Ojwang’s case is merely “a tip of the iceberg,” with dozens of similar cases having been concealed from the public.

“This issue (Ojwang’s death) is just a tip of the iceberg,” Gachagua told the congregation. “Hundreds of young people have been tortured to death by a special squad of 101 officers that was set up on the instruction of William Ruto and seconded to NIS, and highly trained on abductions, torture, killings and cover-ups.”

The DCP leader held President Ruto personally responsible for these alleged deaths, calling for legal action and urging the international community to intervene. “William Ruto cannot run away from these deaths. He is responsible, and Kenyans will punish him for that,” Gachagua declared, insisting that justice must be served and accountability upheld at all levels of power.

This explosive accusation comes at a time of heightened public anger and scrutiny over police conduct, particularly following the recent controversy surrounding Albert Ojwang’s death and conflicting reports from police and independent autopsy findings.
