Rachel Ruto’s Bible thumping raises eyebrows

Rachel Ruto attracted attention during the National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on May 27, 2026.

The women-only gathering was organised as a precursor to the 23rd Annual National Prayer Breakfast and carried the theme “Forgiveness and Reconciliation” amid rising political tensions in the country. Guests observed an all-white dress code, symbolising purity and solemnity during the occasion.

Rachel Ruto appeared dressed in an elegant white outfit with patterned sleeves, complemented by braided hair and full-face makeup as she addressed hundreds of women leaders attending the event.

First Lady joins worship session

During the gathering, the First Lady also joined other women leaders in leading worship and praise sessions on stage through song and dance.

At one point, she sang along to the phrase:

“My God is good oh. Everything na dabo dabo,”

as attendees cheered and participated in the celebrations.

Calls for prayer ahead of June and July

While addressing the congregation, Rachel Ruto urged Kenyans to dedicate time to prayer for the months of June and July.

“I feel in my spirit that we need to take time and pray for the months of June and July… I know that it is only prayer that can change things,” she said.

The First Lady referenced previous periods of political tension and youth-led protests witnessed around the same months in past years, calling on women to intensify prayers for peace, unity, and stability across the country.

She further encouraged churches, families, and women leaders to engage in prayer and fasting during the period.

Scripture reference during address

Rachel anchored her remarks on Jeremiah 29:7, urging Kenyans to pray for peace in the nation.

“The Bible in the book of Jeremiah 29:7 says pray for the peace of the city. I want us to have that verse as our anchor verse as we go into June and July,” she stated.

She added:

“We do not have another nation; this is our nation… As the mother of the nation, allow me to request the entire country to pray… the months of June and July are going to be crucial.”

Kenyans react online

Her remarks quickly sparked conversation on social media, with Kenyans sharing mixed reactions to her appeal for national prayers.

Some users supported the First Lady’s message, praising her for promoting unity and spiritual reflection during a politically tense period.

One user commented:

“Mama Rachel is speaking the truth. June and July usually come with a lot of tension in Kenya. Prayer is important.”

Another wrote:

“She always carries herself with grace. The country truly needs prayers.”

Others, however, questioned whether her remarks hinted at fears of unrest in the coming months.

“What does she know that wananchi don’t know?” one user asked.

Another commented:

“Prayer is good, but leaders also need to address the cost of living and the challenges facing young people.”

Some Kenyans also referenced last year’s youth-led demonstrations, arguing that the country needs both peace initiatives and accountability from leaders.

“Prayers alone are not enough without action,” another reaction read.

First Lady Rachel Ruto has broken her silence on the gruesome discovery of mutilated bodies in the Kware area of Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Embakasi South, Nairobi.

Through her social media account on X, Rachel described the incident as deeply heartbreaking.

“The discovery of the mutilated bodies of young women dumped in Kware, Nairobi, is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. Each of these women was someone’s child, sister, or friend, and no one should undergo such cruelty. Violence against women must end in our country. Our condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victims. No parent should ever have to bury their child, especially under such circumstances.”

A statement by the DCI revealed that on the second day of the body retrievals, a dog carcass was discovered among the bodies found.

On the first day of the search, nine female bodies were discovered.

“Three bags contained female body parts as follows: the first bag had two legs from the knee downwards, the second bag contained two body parts, one from the neck to the waist and another from the head to the waist, and the third bag contained a lower limb from the thigh to the knee. Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Ruto, took to social media to celebrate both her husband President William Ruto’s birthday and their 30th wedding anniversary on the same day. Her message expressed deep gratitude for the love and support they’ve shared throughout their journey together.

Reflecting on their long-standing union, she drew inspiration from scripture, writing:

“Happy Birthday, Bill, my cherished friend and confidant. On this momentous day, I am filled with gratitude. Reflecting on the journey we’ve shared, I am reminded of a verse from the Bible, ‘There are three things that will endure – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.’ 1 Corinthians 13:13 Kwa kweli mambo ni matatu.

This heartfelt message highlights the foundation of their relationship and the enduring principles that have seen them through three decades of marriage. It also hints at the unwavering love that remains the cornerstone of their partnership.

Other prominent figures also chimed in with birthday wishes for President Ruto. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua offered a warm, fraternal message: “Happy Birthday, my brother and my friend President William Ruto.”

Defence Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, joined the chorus of well-wishers, reminiscing about shared experiences and expressing excitement for the future: “We have shared so many good times together and I can’t wait to see what’s next! Happy birthday, my friend and the President!”

First Lady Rachel Ruto Highlights The Importance Of Empowering Women

First Lady Rachel Ruto has emphasized the profound impact of empowering women in the country. Speaking on June 22, 2023, the First Lady, who is a staunch advocate for women’s rights, expressed her belief that empowering women can bring about positive transformation in society.

“When you empower a woman, you empower a community. Women are the backbone of society, and their empowerment has a ripple effect that touches every aspect of community life,” Mama Rachel stated.

Recognizing the significant role women play in society, Mama Rachel highlighted the transformation that occurs when a woman is given the means and support to pursue her dreams and aspirations.

“When a woman is empowered, she gains the confidence and resources to pursue her dreams and aspirations. She becomes a beacon of inspiration, a guiding light for others, instilling in them the belief that they too can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness.”

The First Lady’s remarks came after she met with 118 women who have been working tirelessly to beautify the Statehouse by planting grass. The women, who are all members of the Joyful Women Organization, are part of a larger initiative by the First Lady to empower women and promote gender equality in Kenya.

“I am inspired by the work that these women are doing,” Mama Rachel said. “They are a testament to the power of women when they are given the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

The First Lady’s remarks are a timely reminder of the importance of empowering women. As the world continues to grapple with the challenges of inequality and poverty, women are essential to building a more just and prosperous future. By empowering women, we can unleash their full potential and create a better world for all.

Matatu Driver Arrested for Allegedly Obstructing First Lady’s Motorcade

A matatu driver was arrested and charged with obstruction after allegedly blocking First Lady Rachel Ruto’s motorcade in Nairobi.

The driver, who was ferrying passengers to Kakamega, was apprehended along University Way at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21.

When questioned by the media, the driver, who has not been named, expressed surprise at his arrest and subsequent detainment at Kabete Police Station. He maintained his innocence and shared his experience with the press, shedding light on the events leading up to his arrest.

The driver said that he was stopped at a red light when the First Lady’s motorcade approached. He said that he waited for the motorcade to pass before proceeding, but that he was then arrested by police officers who accused him of obstructing the motorcade.

A passenger who was present during the incident corroborated the driver’s account. The passenger said that the driver waited for 15 minutes after the motorcade passed before proceeding, but that he was still arrested by police officers.

The passenger criticized the police’s handling of the situation, saying that the driver was clearly not obstructing the motorcade and that his arrest was unjustified.

The driver is due to appear in court on July 5.

The arrest of the matatu driver is a reminder of the challenges that matatu drivers face in Kenya. Matatu drivers are often harassed by police officers, and they are often the targets of arbitrary arrests.

The arrest of the matatu driver is also a reminder of the importance of due process. The driver was arrested and charged with obstruction, but he has not been convicted of any crime. He is entitled to the presumption of innocence, and he deserves a fair trial.

The case of the matatu driver is likely to be closely watched by matatu operators and human rights activists. The outcome of the case could have implications for the rights of matatu drivers in Kenya.

The rivalry between Meru Governor Peter Munya and Senator Kiraitu Murungi is threatening to plunge the otherwise peaceful county into violence. And Rachel Ruto was in Meru yesterday to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Rachel Ruto graced a crusade organized by Full Gospel Church of Kenya in Meru town on Wednesday July 5th. The main purpose of the crusade was to preach peace and unity in Meru ahead of August 8th general election.

Clan politics is threatening the peace in the miraa County; political difference between Peter Munya and Kiraitu Murungi who are both vying for gubernatorial seat has divided the people of Meru into clans.

Munya is seeking re-election on a Party of National Unity (PNU) while Kiraitu with his Jubilee ticket is on a mission to unseat him.

Rachel Ruto preached and prayed for peace in Meru, she urged residents not to start the ugly politics that wreaked havoc in parts of Rift Valley years back.

“What I want to encourage the people of Meru County is to stay united. The Bible says a house that I divided against itself cannot stand. Meru County constituents, let us embrace the spirit of brotherhood. Let us stay united. We’ve been watching on TV news items from Meru County which show a lot of things happening in Meru County. But I’d love to tell you, the people of Meru County that division is not your portion.

“There are challenges facing people from other regions in the country, with a major challenge being tribalism…for instance in Rift Valley. What I know, Meru County has never been affected by tribalism and I urge you not to start what God does not want you to start,” Rachel Ruto said.
