Veteran radio personality, Tina Ogal sets eyes on Embakasi East seat on ODM ticket
Tina Ogal has officially joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), signaling her intention to contest for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat in the next general election.
The move marks a major shift for one of Kenya’s most recognisable radio voices, who is transitioning from a long-standing media career into active politics.
Entry into ODM
Ogal’s entry into the party was confirmed on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during a meeting led by acting Secretary General Catherine Omanyo, where new aspirants were received. She joined a group of candidates from Nairobi and other regions as ODM intensifies its recruitment and internal restructuring efforts.
From broadcasting to politics
Ogal is widely known for co-hosting a popular evening radio show alongside Munai Generali, a programme that has run for more than 16 years and attracted a loyal national audience.
In 2024, she rose to the role of Head of Radio at the station, succeeding veteran broadcaster Jeridah Andayi.
Her move into politics reflects a long-standing interest in governance. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government, as well as a Master’s in Diplomacy, both from the University of Nairobi.
A journey shaped by persistence
Ogal began her media career in 2001 at Waumini FM before joining Radio Citizen in 2004. During her early years, she also did voice-over work for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
She has previously spoken about the challenges she faced when starting out, including writing and rehearsing her Kiswahili scripts extensively before going on air. Over time, discipline and consistency helped shape her into one of the country’s most respected Kiswahili broadcasters.
Eye on Embakasi East
With over two decades of experience in communication and media leadership, Ogal is now turning her focus to public service. She is expected to contest for the Embakasi East seat, currently held by Babu Owino, who has expressed interest in vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial position.
Her entry into the race sets the stage for a competitive contest, as she brings her public profile and communication expertise into the political arena.
