Pearl Thusi has been unveiled as the roast master of The Comedy Central Roast of AKA. She is known for dishing out shade with boldness and will thus drive the panel of ten roasters when AKA takes the hot seat.
She becomes Comedy Central’s first female roast master in Africa.
“I’m very excited to be the Roast Master and to work with Comedy Central for the first time. To be the first female Roast Master in Africa and first black woman globally is a great achievement.”
Pearl also had a message for AKA.
“To AKA – we’ve talked a lot of mess on Twitter and in private, but now we’re going to settle this in front of the world, with no one to protect you. This is deeper than rap beef. It will be on stage and to your face. I honestly can’t wait. Oh, and I won’t be alone as I’ve got a team of roasters with me. So poetic. Just remember: Composure, Composure!”
The roast will happen on the 21st of February at the Teatro at Montecasino.
Pearl Thusi has stood by her her decision to #MuteRKelly. This is after a documentary came out to bear it all on R Kelly’s alleged affairs with underage girls.
The documentary is titled Surviving R Kelly. It features accounts by R Kelly’s alleged victims.
Among the celebrities who feature in the documentary are John Legend, Wendy Williams and singer Sparkle.
Pearl came out to show her outrage over the claims made in the video.

Previous Relationship
Pearl was previously engaged to media personality Robert Mararwa, and later confirmed the split. She said at the time: “Yes, it’s a private issue, but it was an incredible relationship. It was an absolutely utely incredible relationship. I wouldn’t trade it. I learnt a lot from it. We’ve all taken the lessons we needed to take from that journey and hopefully we can all move forward from that.”
Pearl Thusi took to social media to announce that she will be starring in Africa’s very first Netflix original series. It is titled, Queen Sono.
She is emotional in the video where she thanks Netflix and the team that she has worked with.
“I cannot wait for every young woman, every woman on this continent, actually on this planet to meet Queen Sono, we’ve worked so hard on this.”
In the series, Pearl will be playing a spy at a South African Agency.
The show sees comedian and filmmaker Kagiso Lediga as the director, and executive producer Tasmin Andersson.
Earlier this month Netflix had announced that it was looking for African content.
“There’s going to come a time when half of the top 10 of most-watched shows in a given year are going to come from outside of the US,” Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vice-president of international originals, Variety reports.
“I don’t think that’s very actually far away. I think that’s going to come in years, not decades,” Barmack added.
Netflix released a press statement stating that they have commissioned their first African original series, titled Queen Sono and starring Pearl Thusi.
The series is billed as an action-packed spy saga, with Thusi starring as a highly trained secret agent whose purpose is to better the lives of ordinary Africans.
Queen Sono will be produced by Diprente, well known for a host of SA productions including Catching Feelings (which also starred Thusi), Blitzpatrollie, The Bantu Hour, and the multiple Emmy-nominated Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola
In an emotional Instagram video, Pearl Thusi share the good news.

The series will be directed by acclaimed local comedian and filmmaker Kagiso Lediga, who will also act as executive producer alongside Tamsin Andersson, who has been behind most of Diprente’s productions. Both are co-owners of the company alongside Isaac Mogajane.
Netflix’s Erik Barmack said: “We are excited to be working with Kagiso and Pearl, to bring the story of Queen Sono to life, and we expect it to be embraced by our South African users and global audiences alike.”
Lediga added: “We are delighted to create this original series with Netflix, and are super excited by their undeniable ability to take this homegrown South African story to a global audience. We believe Queen Sono will kick the door open for more awesome stories from this part of the world.”
Pearl Thusi is a jack of all trades. She recently took to Instagram to post a cover of the track titled Balance Well. It features Nigerian artists Dammy Krane and Olamide and Ghana’s Medikal.
“2018… you’ve been fun. Thank you! This was so much fun! #balancewellchallenge coming soon,” she wrote. She went on to thank the artists for inviting her to be part of the song.
Pearl also posted videos of her dancing to the song.
In one of the videos, she wrote: “This was in Ghana. Can’t believe I have a song out with some of the biggest artists on this continent.”
She has planned even more before the year ends.
“This has been a year of growth, risks, extension, love and always being up for the challenge. Thank you 2018!!! But I’m not done with you!”
Pearl Thusi took to social media with a lot of emotion. She addressed those who are surviving without their parents.
In the video she shared, she tearfully tells her followers: “I don’t know if it’s the jet lag, but I’m emotional. I’m just thinking like… I wish my mom was here to help me with my daughter.”
Pearl then encourages.
“To everybody out there just surviving without their parents, you’re so strong. Just a word of encouragement, it’s gonna be ok. It sucks but it’s gonna be okay.”
Her mother passed away in 2005. In a previous interview, she spoke of how her mother died.
“She went to go stay with my grandma for a while, for them to take care of her. I think maybe they didn’t want us to see how sick she was, I think. And all we knew is that she had gallstones,” Pearl said on the show.
“I sometimes wonder if, as her oldest child, if I did go and see her, like, would I have made any sort of difference, you know? Would she be alive?” Probably not, maybe I was not meant to see her in the state she was in. I don’t know, and I’ll never know.”
Pearl Thusi made it to be counted among those that attended Priyanka Chopra’s bridal shower in New York.
The tow have been co-stars since 2016 on the set of Quantico.
Priyanka’s bridal shower was therefore organized by her friends and family, ahead of her wedding with Nick Jonas.
In the photos shared by Priyanka, Pearl can thus be seen in the background.
“Love, laughter and a room full of amazing ladies… and some special gentlemen (what a special surprise),” Priyanka captioned the snaps.
Pearl too took to social media to also share photos of the aftermath from the bridal shower.
“Only a @priyankachopra bridal shower would have this type of aftermath. At least she wrapped us up in Chanel. To think @russeltovey was the last person to arrive but this was him. Poor baby,” she wrote.
Pearl Thusi is a warrior actress in the fifth installment of the Scorpion King franchise.

In a clip on Instagram, Pearl took her fans behind-the-scenes, showcasing her battle skills.
In the installment, Scorpion King: Book Of Souls, Pearl plays the role of Tala, a warrior princess.
Pearl Thusi is on the cover of SAA’s in-flight magazine, Sawubona. In it, she remembers the very first time she took her flight.
Pearl took to social media to share the news, writing: “At home in KZN, there should still be a copy of the very first Sawubona magazine I ever laid my eyes on.”
Like most people’s first flight which is exciting, hers was too.
“SAA was the first airline I ever flew with. It was 2003, just turned 15 and I was a Miss SA Teen finalist. And I was going to be on a plane for the first time ever. I grabbed anything I could to remember the occasion. My dad drove me, were hours early.”
Things have now changed for Pearl.
“Now they all wave at me as I sprint to the gates. Today I am a platinum member of South African Airways and on the cover of Sawubona.”

A press statement released by the event organizers stated that:

Pearl Thusi was at a recent women’s month event where she shared her experience with abuse from her parent’s marriage. This, she says, impacted the way she views love.
In a video from the event, Thuso is heard saying: “as a teenager, I swore never to marry a black man because at the time, they were the only ones that I was exposed to and they were the reason I was able to witness women being abused… Of course [now] I know better but… As a child, I had made that decision.
“So what I’m saying, by looking at my mother’s abuse and what I went through in particular… we need to stop comparing pain. Abuse is abuse, it needs to be nipped in the bud.”
Pearl recounted her story of begging her mother to leave. At this point, she could not hold back her tears and she broke down.
Pearl Thuso and DJ Zinhle have the kind of friendship every best friend wants to have. The two have been friends for many years and have stuck by each other through thick and thin.
When Pearl recently surprised DJ Zinhle with a Chanel watch, she couldn’t hide her excitement and burst into tears.
“I’m never taking it off,” an excited Zinhle said before bursting into tears.
It was an all black affair as some of our local celebs celebrated the 30th birthday of TV personality Pearl Thusi.
Celebrities in attendance included Legato Kganyago, Da Les, Cassper Nyovest, Basestana Kumalo, Kelly Khumalo and of course Pearl’s bestie DJ Zinhle.
Showing off their best attire, the stars posed for pictures, got down on the dance floor and took some time to serenade the birthday girl who was dressed in a sexy blue number.
“It was a splendid evening with fine cuisine from a Michelin Star chef and we burnt the dance floor,” Basetsana described the evening in one post.
After a strange twar broke out between actress Pearl Thusi and rapper Cassper Nyovest on Thursday, it became clear by Friday morning that it was just a publicity stunt to promote his latest music video.
Thusi confirmed it on Twitter, but said that she really had fallen off the horse.
After Thusi posted photos of herself riding a horse and saying she had fallen off it at one point, on Thursday Cassper apparently found the idea hilarious and told her that black women shouldn’t even be trying to ride them.
“What were you doing on a horse wena as a black woman?”
He advised her that certain things “should be left to white people”.
She was apparently unimpressed at Cassper’s mockery and gave him a quick lesson in feminism: “So you believe black women should be limited? You’re (sic) narrow minded self also doesn’t know black people were riding horses on our continent for centuries?! And now as a black woman I must be confined to YOUR LIMITS. Nigga GTFOH.”
The abbreviation stands for “Get the f**k outta here.”
Cassper hit back, asking her if her anger was because he’d laughed at her for falling off the horse or because he’d wondered what a black woman was doing on a horse in the first place.
She told him to “free his mind” and added that people shouldn’t be telling others what they were capable of.
However, it became clear that Thusi was on the horse for his KsazobaLITi music video, released on Freedom Day.
In the video Cassper is wearing a farmer’s outfit and dancing among the fields. He also drives an old tractor around, much to the apparent consternation of a big white farmer coming out of his farmhouse.
A hip-hop dance crew does its moves in a field while there’s even a cameo from choreographer and presenter star Somizi driving a big delivery truck.
There’s also more humour in the video, since the farmer starts to join in by dancing and joining a meal at the end of the video.
The message of the song centres on black people reclaiming land.
The EFF, which successfully tabled a motion in parliament in March to have the constitution changed to allow for land expropriation without compensation, said in a tweet: “Fellow South Africans & fighters, let’s all watch @CassperNyovest’s #KsazobalitMusicVide be inspired on #FreedomDay! It breaks the stereotype that youth, particularly in the urban of pop cultures like hip hop, are not interested in the land. #WeAreReady.”
Pearl Thusi has shared many memories with Ma Winnie Mandela since their first meet up in 2014.
News of her death thus left Pearl shattered to the core.
She has now come out a week later, to speak on the pain in her heart.
“I was in tears instantly when I found out. In sheer disbelief. And all through this period, I’ve been meditating on all that is you. Beauty. Love. Power. Resilience. Passion. Pain. Strength. Hope. Kindness. Wisdom. And so much more.”
Pearl hopes to live a life that Ma Winnie will be proud of.
“I am so proud to be one of your daughters. I hope that as I accomplish what is necessary for me to be called home too, that you embrace me with my biological mother… And say you’re proud. I pray you tell me in that low, smooth, soothing voice, measured, yet unable to hide your passion – that I kept the torch alive & was wise enough to pass it on.”
Ma Winnie died last Monday and will be given a state funeral on April 14th.
Pearl Thusi was left unharmed on Thursday evening, after an attempted robbery.
She was held at gunpoint in her car while waiting for a traffic light in Braamfontein.
Pearl took to Twitter to detail the whole incident.
“Someone definitely just pulled a gun on me on the road in Braam while I was in my car. Then said I must give him my phone or he’ll shoot me. I said no, then drove away (luckily the light just turned green). I only started freaking out a few minutes later. (sic)”
What made her “laugh” was how “calm” she was. “Thank God I’m safe. Amen,” she said.
She went on to say: “Maybe he thought I can’t speak Zulu?! Maybe he was stressed that I didn’t freak out. Maybe he didn’t have bullets? Maybe Jesus said ‘not today Satan.’ All I’m grateful for is to be alive and unscathed.”
A Twitter user then asked Pearl if she saw the gun, she replied: “Yes I did. But I’ve worked with fake guns on movies and other shows so they don’t immediately freak me out.”
Quinton Van der Burgh with the help of local celebrities opened up a water well in Limpopo on Tuesday.
Some of the celebrities who rallied behind Quinton includedPearl Thusi, Alex Caige, Maps Maponyane and Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
The Quinton van der Bergh Foundation along with our local celebs gathered to open up a brand-new well in the community, which had not had a consistent flow of water. Their reliance on rain is not enough and the river they counted on for so long has run dry.
“Another incredible cause to support today. Honoured to be a part of this extraordinary act of kindness,” Pearl wrote on Twitter.
In a recent interview on Touch HD, Pearl Thusi revealed her high flying status has affected parts of her private life, but it is a sacrifice she is willing to take.
Marital status
She revealed that she has been single for eight months. For Pearl, it is hard to date within South Africa.
“I’ve been single for eight months, I’ve been single for a while..the truth is, I struggle to get into a relationship in South Africa because I’m afraid of why somebody will be getting in a relationship with me or why I’m getting into a relationship with them. I can’t even play with someone because, for me, it’s like, who are they gonna tell, am I a trophy, and there are all these other things I need to think of.”
She has decided to widen her relationship borders and have an open mind in terms of race.
“I’m still optimistic but I’ve decided to open up the borders and keep my mind open and keep my relationship opportunities quite democratic in terms of race. One thing I’ve learned is, if I’m not a hundred percent, I can’t expect to be completed by somebody else, I want for us to create fireworks as two complete people who are going to make the world a better place.”
Motherhood
Pearl’s career requires her to travel a lot. A thing that may affect her daughter. She however says her daughter understands that this is a sacrifice she has to make.
“She cries every time I leave, she’s sad but she understands the purpose of it all, she’s got big dreams, I always tell her I don’t want her to wish that Ariana Grande or Beyonce or anybody else…was her mother, I want her to be glad that I’m her mom and for me to make her proud, these are the sacrifices we need to make, she’s got a father who also loves and supports her, so it makes us stronger but it’s difficult.”
Business
Since launching her Black Pearl hair care products in November of 2015, Pearl will be making her first cheque in April.
“I’m only gonna cut my first cheque from next month, it’s been a while, it’s almost three years now…I’m only getting my first cheque now in April, almost three years later. People don’t understand the thing about hard work and patience, our hair care range is doing so well, the feedback is so insane.”
The images were posted by the actress on international women’s day.
The term black-face refers to a non-black person painting a black face on‚ however Twitter felt Pearl was blatantly disregarding the issue of colourism. Even though it immediately raised some red flags for many tweeps‚ Pearl responded to all the “hate” by posting more pictures
.
Bonnie was just not having it and made her thoughts clearly known:
Here is Bonnie reaction to Pearl Photos
Blackface will never be palatable,I don’t care who is “rocking it” ,go argue with your concealer !
It’s hugely problematic, Colourism has economic and social implications that run real deep, blackface will never be cute, artistic or creative!!! https://t.co/nt4JrJT9Dp
No sub sis,i shared my thoughts with Pearl after she asked if I was subtweeting her,my thoughts were clear ,that it’s blackface and it’s distasteful. https://t.co/tb2iOjHhyP
Pearl Thusi took to Twitter to share qualities she finds attractive in men. This is after she saw a man on Instagram and couldn’t help but drool over him.
Pearl Thusi has been in the US and has made it a point to enjoy herself. She even went bonding with Lesley-Ann Brandt. The two shared photos of themselves cooking.
In a post, Lesley-Ann is seen making meatballs while joking around.
The caption reads: “You can take two girls out of South Africa, but…” it is then followed by the South African flag, and a heart emoji.
Pearl Thusi took to her Instagram stories to share her feelings on ex-president Zuma’s exit.
“You know like when you break up with a guy who was like not good to you and you leave him and then he’s gone? Then you start thinking, but I’ll miss this,” Pearl said.
“He used to make me laugh, he was so entertaining. Post traumatic stress from a bad relationship? I think that’s what South Africa’s going through right now.”
Pearl reminisced about Jacob Zuma’s past.
“Who is going to laugh at us while disrespecting us? Who is going to entertain us? Like make a difference lost key but like low key also build a house. You know like, what’s going to happen to Parliament TV? This man was extremely entertaining guys!”
Despite being a private couple, they seemed madly in love, and the pair were even engaged. Pearl confirmed the engagement during an interview with online publication ‘Hello Beautiful’.
But things turned sour between the lovebirds very fast.
Weeks after confirming their breakup, Robert threw some major shade at Pearl by praising her nemeses, Bonang Matheba, in a very public way.
“There’s no such in ur field right now…maybe in the year 2068!! Go. Collect. Go Home. Simple,” he tweeted shortly before the inaugural DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards in August last year.
The picture could just be from an old photoshoot, but Pearl’s fans think it means something more.
