Samidoh Faces Disciplinary Action Over Viral “Wantam” Chant

Police Constable and popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki, widely known as Samidoh, is reportedly facing disciplinary action after a video of him chanting “Wantam” in a club went viral.

The National Police Service (NPS) says Samidoh breached the Service Standing Orders (SSO) by publicly engaging in what they consider politically charged behavior while still serving as a uniformed officer. Disciplinary measures under consideration include a warning, fine, demotion, transfer, or even dismissal from the service.

Despite an outpouring of support from fans, the NPS maintains that all officers must adhere strictly to the code of conduct.

Transferred to Gilgil as a Disciplinary Move

According to a source who spoke to Nation Media under anonymity, Samidoh—who was previously based in Nairobi—has been transferred to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) headquarters in Gilgil as part of a disciplinary response to his actions.

What began as an ordinary performance turned controversial after footage of the singer chanting the now-popular anti-regime slogan “Wantam” spread across social media on Friday, May 16.

A Cryptic Post Sparks Concern

Shortly after the incident, Samidoh shared a cryptic message on his social media that stirred further concern among fans. The post, which he deleted minutes later, read in part:

“In case I die unexpectedly, or before my time, I want you to know that I have lived a full and good life. Allah gave me an opportunity to travel the world, see nature at its best, meet incredible humans I was fortunate enough to share a moment with.”

Although the message was removed, screenshots circulated widely, prompting worry and speculation about the singer’s well-being.

Bold Lyrics, Bold Stance

Samidoh has built a reputation not only as a celebrated artist but also as a fearless voice. In recent months, his lyrics and public statements have become increasingly critical of the government—earning him both praise from fans and scrutiny from authorities.

The “Wantam” chant, which has gained popularity among youth protesting against the current administration, has become symbolic of public dissent. Samidoh’s public endorsement of it only heightened the attention on him.

While his music continues to resonate with a large audience, the clash between his artistic freedom and the expectations of discipline within the police service has placed him at a crossroads—both professionally and personally.
