Turns out Lali Omar was the one person who was with Tecra before, during and after her tragic accident.

Omar Lali – introduced to the world as the 51-year old lover to Tecra – narrated the turn of events on that fateful day when Tecra fell off the stairs.

During his interview with The Standard, Omar took us back to April 23, when the two lovers were relaxing in a hotel in Lamu before going different ways.

We woke up late that day, ate our lunch at around 2pm then we each went on to do different things.

Tecra would indulge in yoga during her free time in Shela, away from the busy hustles and bustles of every day.

Mr Omar spent the lazy afternoon bonding with his youngest daughter whom he had not seen for donkey years.

We were just having a good time and catching up. I hadn’t seen my daughter for long so on that day, we had a family reunion.

That evening

Tecra and Omar reconvened at Jaha House – where the two spent a couple of weeks – later in the evening.

Something however did not seem right with Tecra.

Omar goes ahead to narrate:

I ordered five litres of madafu and she ordered three bottles of vodka. We had passion juice in our possession too.

The alcohol ordered was a bit too much for two and this left the hotel staff speculating that they were expecting visitors.

Omar adds:

I was on antibiotics that night so I could not drink that much. I stretched out on a nearby couch sofa and dozed off.

Tragic accident

The silence that settles on Shela at night was broken suddenly that evening by a loud thud that woke up Omar from his deep sleep.

I heard a loud thud and a single scream. I woke up and looked towards where Tecra was sleeping and I could not see her. I looked towards the staircase and saw her at the bottom.

She was breathing though not moving, he said.

I tried to conduct first aid by fanning her and later tried to resuscitate her.

Few minutes later,

She told me that she was in pain. That her head and limbs hurt.

This compelled Omar to call upon his brother so that they rush a dear Tecra to hospital.

That is how they ended up at the nearby Shela dispensary which put her on a drip and administered an injection.

Speaking to The Standard, the doctor had recommended a CT scan for Tecra that landed them at King Fahd County Referral Hospital.

The delays

Tecra was allegedly able to talk to doctors at the facility, telling them how she felt.

Even so, there was something about the medical facility, that just didn’t settle well with Omar.

But my heart was not for the hospital. I felt like they were not giving her the treatment she required. She was not improving much.

Omar stated that Tecra and Anerlisa had been talking at around 2:30 am. 10 hours later, CT scan results came in and Omar’s instincts were that they needed to change hospitals.

That is how he reached out to Tecra’s mom – Tabitha Karanja – on phone which saw Tecra airlifted to Nairobi Hospital at around 10:30 pm that night.

At the private facility, more scans had to be done.

One of the doctors said she was improving.

As Tecra was receiving treatment, Omar was being hosted at the Karanja family home for two days before being moved to a hotel on the third day.

Omar would always check up on the Keroche Breweries heiress to know how she was fairing.

Her demise

On the fourth day of his stay in Nairobi, Omar was put in a car and driven to Lamu in the company of police.

Unfortunately:

Once I got to Lamu, they told me she had died.

Omar and Tecra had spend time together since June 2019 when they crossed paths before her untimely demise on the 2nd of May 2020.
