Kansiime Reveals Why She Had To Pay Her Own Dowry

Ugandan comedy icon Anne Kansiime has opened up about a startling chapter of her personal history, revealing that she once took the extraordinary step of paying her own bride price. In a deeply personal interview with Wonder Jr aired on Monday, April 6, 2026, the entertainer confessed that her “marriage” was a carefully constructed narrative she helped maintain.

A Self-Funded Marriage

Kansiime shared that despite the public perception of her union, she never felt like a “wife” in the traditional sense. She admitted to going as far as paying her own dowry to convince her family, the public, and even her partner that they were officially wed.

“I have never become a wife ever. I actually accused myself so much, paid my own dowry and convinced the whole world and the man himself that we were married,” she revealed. She posed a poignant question to the audience: “If you come to my home and they tell you what dowry to pay and you do not pay it, am I your wife?”

The Pressure to Conform

The comedienne explained that when she introduced her then-partner to her parents, they requested a dowry that he failed to provide. Fearing the judgment of others and desperate to make the relationship work, she settled the amount herself.

“They overasked for it, and I paid it myself. When I paid, he forgot about it, I forgot about it, and we moved on with life,” she recalled. Kansiime noted that at the time, she was deeply inspired by her parents’ stable marriage and wanted to emulate that lifestyle, leading her to overlook red flags in her own partnership.

Spiritual Reflections and Motherhood

The weight of this secret became heavier as Kansiime turned 30 and struggled to conceive. She admitted that her inability to get pregnant at the time led to a period of deep soul-searching and questioning her relationship with God.

“The God who has given me all these wonderful things without asking is the same God who refused to give me a child,” she remembered thinking. She expressed that her desire for a child was so intense that she was willing to force the marriage to work at any cost.

A New Chapter

While Kansiime was famously married to Gerald Ojok for four years before their 2017 split, she has since found happiness on her own terms. In 2018, she fell in love with fellow artist Skylanta, with whom she finally realized her dream of becoming a mother.

Her candid revelation serves as a stark commentary on the immense social pressure African women face regarding dowry and the “wife” label, proving that even for a global star, the road to authenticity can be a long one.

Kansiime in mourning after losing loved one

Death is cruel. It leaves you empty and the sad part is that it is part and parcel of life; something we can never escape!

Barely two months after Kansiime welcomed the first grandchild in her family; the comedian’s happiness has been cut short after losing her dear mum. The Ugandan comedian announced the sad news through her Instagram page where she unveiled a never seen before photo of her late mum who passed on this past Sunday saying;

God’s ways are indeed not our ways! My mother has gone to be with the Lord this morning.

Although she does not explain what led to her mother’s sudden demise; the caption shared above proves that she might have been prepared for something of this sort to happen.

To her, this was God’s will and although she would have wanted things to work out differently; sadly fate had the upper hand this time around.

Kansiime blessed with son

The sad news comes barely 2 months after Kansiime ‘shame’ was brought to an end after delivering a bouncing baby boy with her Ugandan singer boyfriend.

Accoridng to the lady, so many had people in her circle including fans had branded her as a barren woman; with others accusing her of selling her womb to the dark spirits for fame.

However, she proved many wrong after welcoming a bouncing baby boy; only to lose the boy’s grandmother weeks later. Anyway our condolence to Kansiime and family as they face this hard time. It is well.

Kansiime opens up about crazy-hard pregnancy journey

Pregnancy is different to each and every woman. There are those who have an easy time while others struggle from the word go; and the worse part is actually a few weeks to giving birth.

Well, Anne Kansiime who had been praying for a child was recently blessed with a bouncing baby boy; who she named Selassie Ataho which means My sins have truly been forgiven.

Having been accused of offering  her womb to Illuminati practices – this was indeed a blessing for Kansiime; until she started joking about her pregnancy journey that may leave a few wondering how pregnancy works.

Most difficult part of pregnancy

Well, apart from the usual morning sickness, cravings and unexplainable fatigue; Kansiime says the most challenging part was when she couldn’t reach her own bum.

True story, when pushing a belly as big as a watermelon- most pregnant women find it hard to reach their behinds; making it hard and uncomfortable to even use the washroom.

Speaking about this, Kansiime said;

It was all fun and games til I couldn’t reach my own behind well well to clean it.

Kansiime

Well, I can bet it’s not only Kansiime who is complaining about such experiences during pregnancy; but I guess she found the birth experience more frightening….compared to the journey experience.

The comedienne now joins the list of celebrity parents in Uganda; but since her story about childlessness is similar to many others out here – many women remain encouraged by her testimony.

Sacrificed her uterus?

With a baby on the way – this not only brought happiness to the couple; but also helped shut down rumors claiming Kansiime is barren. For years many claimed that the lass had sacrificed her uterus for fame; a rumor she could not address since there was no way to prove the critics wrong.

Speaking about this in an interview, the comedienne said;

Some people were trying to figure out why I did not have kids with my ex-husband Gerald Ojok. So they said that I had sold my uterus for fame. The sad thing is even if it is not true there is no way you can be able to show people that your uterus is still intact.

Last laugh

However despite the hate speech and many rumors linking her to Illuminati practices; Kansiime has proved many wrong with stunning baby bump photos that may leave most women with baby fever.

Anyway below are the cute photos of the soon to be mum.
