Machakos County Serves Demand Letter To Oga Obinna Over Sammy Kioko Interview

The Machakos County Government has escalated its dispute with comedian Sammy Kioko by sending a formal demand letter to media personality Oga Obinna regarding a recent interview. The county is demanding that Obinna provide verifiable documentation to back Kioko’s claim that Machakos owes him Ksh19 million.

The controversy centers on Kioko’s alleged non-payment for services rendered to the county. The Wavinya Ndeti-led administration has repeatedly asserted that it never entered into a contract with Kioko, whose name, they claim, is not registered as a director of any company they deal with.

Interview Details and County’s Response

During his November 10 interview on The Obinna Show Live, Sammy Kioko detailed the severe toll the delayed payment has taken on his businesses and mental health, recounting how the situation forced him to seek financial assistance from close friends. He also revealed that his attempts to reach senior county officials, including the governor, were unsuccessful, leading to accusations and counter-accusations.

Machakos County has now doubled down on its denial, officially demanding proof from the media host himself.

“This letter is therefore to demand that you supply us with the documents confirming the said Sammy Kioko’s claim against the County Government of Machakos as published in your show,” the demand letter read in part.

The county further warned of legal action against Obinna and his media channels for the “hosting, publishing and disseminating false information… whereas the said information is skewed, false, malicious and does not paint the real picture” should he fail to produce the requested documents.

The county’s move shifts the burden of proof onto the media host, turning the payment dispute into a high-stakes legal and journalistic accountability issue.

Machakos County Fires Back at Oga Obinna Over Sammy Kioko Payment Saga

The Machakos County Government has officially hit back at comedian Oga Obinna, demanding hard evidence to support claims made on The Obinna Show Live that the county owes fellow comedian Sammy Kioko unpaid money for services rendered.

The move comes after a viral episode of the show, aired on November 10, 2025, titled “When Politics Crushes Dreams | Sammy Kioko’s Heartbreaking Story.”
In the emotional interview, Kioko claimed that he had successfully completed a county project but was never paid — a situation he blamed on political interference and bureaucracy.

The episode sparked massive online outrage, with fans rallying behind Kioko and calling out county officials for alleged corruption and neglect.

County Demands Proof

In a letter dated November 12, 2025, and shared by Obinna on his Facebook page, Machakos County Solicitor Juliet Nthambi dismissed the allegations as false and misleading, accusing Obinna of spreading unverified claims that damaged the county’s image.

The letter, addressed to Steve Thompson Magana (Obinna’s legal name), demanded that the comedian provide documented proof of Kioko’s alleged dealings with the county — including contracts, invoices, delivery notes, or payment vouchers.

“The said Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier with the County Government of Machakos,” the letter read. “He does not appear as a director or contact person in any company supplying goods or services to the county.”

Nthambi further stated that no contract or procurement record exists linking Kioko to any county transaction and accused Obinna of hosting a “sensational and baseless” discussion.

Legal Warning to Obinna

The letter went on to warn that failure to produce evidence could lead to legal action.

“Your show and the discussion therein were made out of ignorance of facts and the law in respect to procurement and contracts,” it stated, reminding Obinna that only prequalified, registered companies can conduct business with the county.

The solicitor added that third parties — such as Kioko — have no legal authority to represent registered suppliers in contractual matters.

Obinna Reacts with Disbelief

True to form, Obinna responded to the letter with a mix of shock and humour.

Posting the document on his Facebook page, he wrote:

A 52-year-old passenger died in a matatu on the Machakos-Koka route.

According to police, Peter Kioko Wambua was found unresponsive when the matatu conductor tried to wake him up to inform him that he had reached his destination.

Wambua had boarded the matatu in Machakos town, heading to his rural home in Kamuani on the evening of Saturday, May 26. He had told the conductor to alert him when they arrived at Kamuani and paid his fare.

Police arrived at the scene and found Wambua’s body lying by the roadside. His family was contacted and identified him at the scene. Wambua, who resided in Nairobi, had contacted his mother that morning requesting fare to come home as he was feeling unwell. The cause of his ailment was unclear.

Police found two sachets of medicine in his shirt pocket. His body, which showed no visible injuries, was taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
