Jacky Vike has opened up about how her popular role as Awinja continues to shape how people perceive her in real life.
Speaking during a local podcast on March 31, 2026, she revealed that many fans struggle to separate her true personality from the character she portrayed on screen. According to her, the strong association has influenced how she is addressed and understood in everyday interactions.
“Ukikutana na wasee wengi… wataniambia, Awinja, mimi nakupenda sana lakini ile ya Nairobi Half Life, no,” she said.
Blurring the line between character and reality
Jacky Vike explained that many people still identify her primarily as Awinja, leading to confusion between acting and real life. As a result, she often feels pressure to live up to the traits associated with the character.
“Now you see, they can’t differentiate acting and real life. So watu wengi wanajua tu Awinja,” she noted.
She added that the character—often perceived as loud, naïve, and a rumour-monger—has significantly influenced how the public views her, with some expecting her to behave the same way off-screen.
“So they want you to be that naive, loud, rumour-mongering Awinja,” she explained.
Mentorship under Papa Shirandula
The actress also reflected on her time working with the late Papa Shirandula, crediting him as a key figure in her growth. She described him as both a mentor and a father figure who played a crucial role in shaping her career.
“He was my mentor. It was such an amazing experience, I learnt so much from him,” she said.
According to Vike, their relationship extended beyond the workplace, evolving into a close-knit bond that felt like family. His passing, she noted, deeply affected the entire cast.
“It got to a point where we were a family… when we lost him, ili tu affect sana,” she shared.
She added that much of her success today is rooted in the lessons and opportunities he provided, expressing gratitude for the lasting impact he had on her personal and professional journey.
