Wizkid seems to have incurred the Wrath of many an African rapper one of those being khaligraph Jones who took offence to the fact that Wiz says african hip hop is all but dead.

And you can feel how you do about that however it cannot be disputed that Wizkid is a great spokesperson for African music there for his opinions should not be taken lightly. Khaligraph Jones however is one of Kenya’s most prolific rappers so naturally he felt the need to speak out and defend hip hop.

But when we look at things objectively we do have to tackle the question of whether African hip-hop has a and had argued that it does. We just have to change our perspective on what makes up the audience. And for me to better explain this I use the example of uk-based Kenyan rapper Phineas or where or who goes by the stage name A1.

He is a hip hop artist who has managed to amass an audience of listeners on Spotify who gave him 270 million streams in 2022. Now that’s massive and it is a movement that people like khaligraph Jones and Wakadinali need to study and learn from.

Perhaps khaligraph Jones should steal a page from Wizkidayo’s PlayBook and begin to focus on Kenyans in the diaspora as well as the international market the reason for this is firstly that the international audience has the money to support an artist’s career by it by streaming or buying concert tickets. And secondly there’s the fact that they actually have the luxury of time to truly form a fanbase.

Kenyans are not known to support their own however that is a localised problem. Kenyans in the diaspora have a huge appetite for Kenyan content but they aren’t enough to truly boost an artist into the stratosphere so perhaps khaligraph Jones should look into collaborating with other African artists as a way of introducing himself to new Markets and audiences.

If as he says African hip hop then the onus falls upon him to become more aggressive in his marketing and attempt to penetrate new markets as well as make more radio hits and club bangers as opposed to making music for his die-hard audience.

Ali Kiba, Wizkid, Xtatic are afew examples of artists who got major record deals with international companies such as Sony Music Group and they later had to either look for creative ways to release music (which is why Wizkid started releasing music under the moniker S.TA.R.BO.Y), or they let it ruin their career like what happened with Xtatic or they have had to vumilia and find a way to survive until the contract runs its course (Ali Kiba).

Ali Kiba is reportedly preparing to call it a day on his engagement with Sony Music and this follows a very familiar pattern for African artists. You see, most African artists operate within a model that can be seen as independent to a lot of foreigners looking in from the outside.

They usually start by teaming up with the hottest producers of the day and keep shooting out music and then handling said music’s distribution. That is how Diamond Platnumz started. That is how Ali Kiba started. that is how most African artists such as Burna Boy did it.

Ofcourse there are the few, largely West African artists, who get signed to local record labels and they then set about meeting the terms of those labels. This was Wizkid’s story with E.M.E (Empire Mates Entertainment) who was signed on by fellow artist, Banky W. This was the case with MMMG (Trimple M G) and Iyanya. Usually, the great thing about these local record labels, they are just as hungry as their artists and push their music as aggressively as their stars.

When these large international record labels come to Africa and sign talents such as Ali Kiba, they usually come with a format that they employed in America and was successful there. They come and demand that the same playbook is used by African artists who have a level of independence even when they are signed to local record labels. Guys like Wizkid and Ali Kiba are accustomed to releasing music whenever they have some new material and at their discretion.

When these guys,, Ali Kiba et al, sign their record deals, they end up feeling frustrated that they cannot simply jump on a track when invited to do so by their peers and friends. This is one of the most prevalent quarrels we hear about from the likes of Xtatic and Wizkid. They cannot perform wherever or whenever an opportunity presents itself as these performances have to be approved by the big time record labels. As a result, we seemingly see our favourites take a “forced” hiatus.

Add to this the fact that these record companies usually import their own executives and rarely give the mantle to locally grown, tried and tested clients and you can see why the contracts they sign rarely (if ever) push these acts to the next level. As we have seen with Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, with Nyashinski and Diamond Platnumz, they have to get to the next step by doing their own negotiating after getting recognition from the diaspora. Once that happens, they then begin to work with international artists such as Alicia Keys and Diddy who try to push them to the world stage.

So this raises a question I have never been able to answer, “Why did the likes of Ali Kiba agree to signing international record deal?”

Wizkid’s Success Paved Way for Davido- British TV Host (Video)

A popular Nigerian-British Tv host, Adesope Ajiade is of the opinion that Wizkid was the person that paved way for Davido. Young boys of his age were not allowed to do music and be successful at that time in the Nigerian music industry he said.

Wizkid was the first person of his to gather an African audience. He however describes the era as the Justin Beiber era of Nigeria. His initial success was the one that paved ways for the likes of Davido and Burna Boy, he said.

Noting that the singer’s Star Boy Records Boss inspired Davido and the likes, he however, describes Wizkid as the forerunner of his age.

Singer, Skales Declares Wizkid as the Greatest Singer of all Times

Singer, Skales has described his former label mate, Wizkid as the greatest singer of all times. This is coming after both singers put their 6 year old beef aside to perform on the same stage.

Recall that Skales has earlier laid claims to the authorship of most of Wizkid’s early songs. This had brought both singers to feud. Thankfully, the end of the year 2018 brought an end to the feud of both singers.

Skales says Wizkid is the GOAT.

After their performance, the singer took to Instagram to shower praises on the ‘Soko’ crooner. He however noted that nothing can break the bond between the both of them.

He wrote:

In another post, he revealed that they both got to perform together again after six years.

Club Fight: Club DNA Issues Statement, Says Wizkid’s Debt has Nothing to do with Fight

Following reports by some media outlets that singe, Wizkid’s debt to Lagos club, Club DNA, was the reason why his bouncer was macheted, the club has issued a statement.

Clearing the air on what really went down, the statement says that Roy, who doubles as the singer’s bodyguard and the club’s chief bouncer, got into a fight with another staffer at the club.

The fight has nothing to do with Wizkid’s outstanding debt, they said. They however, noted that the singer’s debt is another issue that will be dealt with.

Club DNA’s statement below;

To whom it may concern,

It has been brought to our notice that news circulating stating Wizkid’s bouncer (Roy) was attacked at CLUB DNA and related to Wizkid’s outstanding bills at the club.

We would like to make clarification that it was a situation of indiscipline on both side . Roy works at Club dna as the chief bouncer and the accused also work at the same club as an MC. Altercation happened when both staffs were talking to a senior staff and both started an argument and rapidly rose to a fight.

The matter is now been handled by the Nigerian Police and they are getting to the matter. . .

We would like to clarify that Wizkid’s outstanding bill has nothing to do with this fight.

It was a situation of two staffs indiscipline act. Wizkid’s outstanding bill is a different issue to be addressed separately and vividly.

Wizkid’s Bodyguard Macheted at Club DNA for Defending his Boss (Graphic)

Pop singer, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid may have gotten his bodyguard, Roy Emmanuel into trouble after an argument.

According to sources, the bodyguard was at club DNA when the need to defend his boss arose. The management of the club were reported to have gotten into an argument. This is said to have been over the fact that the singer did not buy the Lamborghini that he showed on his Instastory.

They however claimed that the it is illogical for him to get such a car when he is owing the club. He has been in debt with the club for drinks he bought without paying.

The source however revealed that Roy swung in to defend his boss, stating that he will pay his debt when he returns to the country.

A while after, Roy stepped out of the club and that was where he was said to have been macheted by a guy identified as one of the club’s MCs.

He is however, said to have taken to his heels and is currently on the run. Roy on the other hand is said to be recuperating at an undisclosed hospital.

Nigerian pop singer, Wizkid is celebrating his third son, Zion who seems to be his favorite as he clocks his first 365 days.

In pictures making rounds on social media, the singer and his baby mama who is also his manager, hosted friends to their child’s first birthday.

With a Mickey Mouse theme, the little one is surrounded by his parents and friends as he cuts his first birthday cake.

Zion is the singer’s third son from his third baby mama. He has a son each with his other baby mamas, Shola and Binta.

Daddy Freeze Reacts to Wizkid and Tiwa’s ‘Fever’ Video

The rave of the online world right now is singer, Wizkid’s music Video, ‘Fever’, which features his ‘big sis’ Tiwa Savage.

Already, the video has hit an all time highest number of views on YouTube, for a Nigerian video, within the first few hours of its release.

Popular OAP, Daddy Freeze, has now lend his voice to that of the many others that have made comments on the video.

Daddy Freeze shares his opinion about Wizkid’s Fever video.

Unlike the multitude who do not quite like the idea of Tiwa actin as a vixen in the video, the OAP thinks the duo did a good job. According to him, the chemistry between the two in the video was great. He wrote:

At first, it may have seemed as tho they were really unbothered about people’s opinion but now, Tiwa has paid a little attention to trolls.

According to him, people had advised him against working for the singer in the past. He was told that the singer has nothing to offer, than to use him, he said.

He, however, went with his instincts which told him that something big is coming. At the end, “stew everywhere”, he said.

Singer, Wizkid, is set to release a new single, today, the 12th of October and in anticipation for this, he has taken to social media to share some lovely picture of his third son, Zion.

The singer, last year, welcomed his third fruit from his then manager, Jada Pollock. Since the birth of the boy, he has seized every opportunity to show him off to the world. Recall that he recently tweeted about waking up beside his son.

Being a famous singer comes with so many privileges, amongst which is the attention of female fans. Not only does he get their attention, he seems to be at liberty to do to them as he wishes. This, however, seem to be the case of a plus sized fan seen in a viral video of the singer.

Wizkid Needs Help- Binta Diallo Slams Singer Again

Pop singer, Wizkid’s second baby mama, Binta Diallo is for some reasons, absolutely mad at the singer. For some reasons, she ceases every opportunity to lash at him.

Days after calling the singer out for not paying for child support, she has now declared that her sun isn’t a Balogun. This was in a comment on a post by a page dedicated to the singer’s sons.

For sometime now, singer, Wizkid’s first and second baby mamas, Binta Diallo and Shola Ogudugu, have been on about how he is a deadbeat dad. This is owing to their claims which holds that the singer does not take care of his kids.

Recently, after news broke that Chris Brown’s baby mama, Nia Guzman was dragging him to court, Binta siezed the chance to drag her baby daddy. Sharing a screenshot of the news, the lady who has the hashtag baby mama on her bio, wrote:

I’m not trying to bring her down but Damn Can I just swap baby daddy with her???? if only my child’s father treated my son the way he treats her daughter and payed half of the amount she’s getting in child support ?‍♀️ I am a single mom, I work my ass off and I pay for everything, imagine if someone was paying for my son’s school fees, nanny, and paying the bills boo boo let me just stop right here…

Yesterday being Monday, Binta Diallo went further to share legal documents of Wizkid’s child support agreement. Nothing that she agreed to settle out of court after pleas from the singer’s family members, she revealed that he has not kept to the agreement. Seven months down the line, the singer’s lawyers keep saying they’ve not been able to reach him, she added.

This is some of the agreements/settlements that was provided by both of our lawyers which was supposed to be resolved outside court by February 2018. I didn’t sue him or take the case to court because some of his family members begged not to and said that wiz himself want to settle everything with the lawyers without involving the courts because he didn’t want to get in trouble with immigration. So I listened and accepted that deal and gave him a chance to do the right thing. That was 7mths ago and since then his lawyers keep telling my lawyers that they have not been able to reach their client or his management team. #more receipts on the way.

Teebillz Reacts to Tiwa Savage and Wizkid’s Rumoured Relationship

Following series of rumours which alleged that singers, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid are romantically involved after Tiwa’s divorce from her husband, Teebillz has for the first time, spoken out.

This was in an Instagram post by the music executive, where he cleared the air on his ex wife’s relationship with her fellow singer, Wizkid.

According to him, neither Tiwa nor Wizkid, will ever disrespect him like that. Describing Star Boy as his Lil’ brother, he noted that Don Jazzy will never allow such to happen. Though he and his ex wife have their personal issues, she wouldn’t disrespect him by having an affair with Wizzy, he said.

Going further, he noted that Tiwa will rather mess with known billionaires like Dangote, Otedola and Adeleke. People’s opinion does not mater, he noted. He however, added that he will rather work hard to take care of his kids.

Nigerian superstar, Wizkid, has been in some kind of close friendship with supermodel, Naomi Campbell and it all looks good. From being on the runway together, to making an appearance at Wizkid’s show, these two celebrities seem to be on to great things together.

Yesterday, the singer and the model gave fans something to swoon over, as they appeared together at the 2018 GQ Men of the Year Awards in London.

Comedian, Oyemykke Shades Bank W, Says EME Crashed After Wizkid’s Exit

Oyemkke is fast gaining popularity for always slamming celebrities.

Instagram influencer, Oyemykke, who his known for his craft as an IG comedian, has taken to the platform to slam singer, Banky W. This was in a video, where he laughed at the singer for calling himself the ‘baddest boss’.

According to him, EME crashed after Wizkid left, despite Banky’s claims.

Recall that the EME boss was described as ”the baddest boss” in the record’s hit single, ‘baddest boy’. The record label however, couldn’t stand the test of time after Wizkid parted ways with them. This, has now been turned to a laughing stock by the IG celebrity.

Wikzid Lands in Cotonou with Class, in a Private Jet

It is a private jet rave for Wizkid and Davido.

Nigerian music sensation, who is accepted all over Africa and the world, Wizkid, recently had a show in the Beninese capital, Cotonou, in grande style.

The singer, like his new best friend, Davido, boarded a private jet to the West African country. He took to his Instagram page to share pictures and videos from his trip.

Some people are however, of the opinion that he chattered the jet. The ownership of the jet is still unknown, as the singer didn’t say a thing about it.

Blackface Files Lawsuit Against Wizkid and Banky W for Copyright Infringment

Blackface Slams Wizkid and Banky W with a 100 Million Naira Lawsuit.

Blackface is dragging popular Nigerian singers, Wizkid and Banky W, to court for what he calls copyright infringement.

This is for the EME Records’ 2011 song, ‘Slow Whine’, which he says is a reproduction of his song, ‘Like the Way.’ He therefore demands over a Hundred Million Naira, off the suit.

He made this known in an Instagram post, where he posted legal documents from the case.

I have remained quiet while my name has been dragged in the mud the past few years. Some of Nigeria’s biggest artists have infringed on my copyrights but I always restricted myself to speaking out against this in the media. Maybe because I always felt that music is an art and not really a business where you bring in lawyers and all that.That’s why I couldn’t believe when I was sued for N50m by the same people who stole my intellectual property.

I have nothing personal against Wizkid & Banky, in fact I can say I groove to both their music, but the fact is that they stole my song in 2011 and there’s clear evidence to prove it. We’ll allow the Court to decide.

In their most recent performances, they have made sure to share the stage together. What have even sparked these rumours more is the way they regard each other and even more, the fact that they shared a kiss in one of their performances.

A recent spice to these rumours is a video of both singers, which has surfaced online. In the video, they are seen sharing a few seconds of what looks like a kiss.

Fan Attacks Wizkid on Stage, Causes Singer to Miss a Step (Video)

Wizkid is grabbed on stage by a dotting fan.

Nigerian singer, Wizkid was almost made to lose his balance on stage by a female fan, during a recent performance.

While singeing to the hearty cheers of fans, an unnamed female fan bagged in on the singer. She fiercely tries to grab the singer and succeeds, but for the help of bouncers, who were timely in rescuing him from her.

She however, didn’t back down in her attempt as she had to be carried away from the stage by the bouncers.

This, didn’t stop the singer from entertaining his audience as though nothing happened.

Wizkid again, made history by filling the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena.

Nigerian singer, Wizkid or Daddy Yo’ as he has come to be known, over the last weekend, made history once again. For the second time in a row, the singer filled the O2 Arena in London,which is said to hold about 20,000 people.

This was at his Afro Republik concert which had so many superstar in attendance. Amongst those that graced the concert with their performance were Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Maleek Berry, and also UK superstar Skepta, and the supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Wizkid, in an IG post, however, posted a picture of himself and the super model and captioned it;

“The Queen @naomicampbell Love 4 life”.

In response to this, Naomi stated how proud of the singer she is. He has only just begun, she said.

Proud to be part of this hisptorical moment for you @wizkidayo,” adding, “Keep blzing. It’s only just begun.
