Shix Kapienga among Royal Media staff to be fired

It is not well in the mainstream media industry following Royal Media´s decision to kick out a number of its employees, barely a day after Mediamax´s K24 sent home its entire newsroom.

Early this morning, Tuesday, June 23, the purported largest media house in Kenya sent employees from the radio department parking in a bid to sustain itself amidst the brutal COVID-19 effects.

Royal Media has reportedly issued several of its employees with redundancy letters as more of such are expected to be coming through in a couple of weeks.

Sources reveal a couple of Radio Citizen presenters will be affected among them: Syombua Osiany, John Maloba and Himenigilder Mugeni.

Shix

Popular radio personality, Shix Kapienga is also among those set to receive retrenchment letters from the SK Macharia-owned media conglomerate.

Born Nancy Wanjiku Karanja, Shix has been hosting Drop Zone on Hot 96 FM that runs from Monday till Thursday, 7 pm-10 pm.

30% pay cut

A redundancy notice that comes barely 3 months since the company announced a 30% pay cut among its employees, following the adverse effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Seasoned media personalities the likes of Jeff Koinange, saw their pay cheque amount to something lower than before. Managing Director, Wachira Waruru articulated:

The unprecedented outbreak of the coronavirus in the world and Kenya, in particular, has had serious repercussions on business, including ours. This reality necessitates that we take difficult but necessary measures to see us through this period.

Adding:

Each staff will be issued with their individual letter through their supervisor. This reduction is temporary and will be reversed when things return to normal.

Size 8 and DJ Mo´s marital and family scandals have confirmed no marriage is a bed of roses, thanks to their NTV show, Dine with the Murayas.

Recent reports have made it clear that the young celebrity couple have petty issues that they battle with each passing day.

During their recent clash, the gospel DJ indicated they have issues with communication especially as a couple.

“I felt unworthy of love,” Wahu opens up about her battle with self esteem issues as a young woman

Singer Wahu switched from making secular music to gospel almost 10 years after dominating the industry with nothing but hit songs. She is however still in the music industry; but unlike before the singer is all about spreading gospel through her songs.

Back in the day things were however not as easy since she had a few demons to battle with. The singer revealed this through her instagram page, the mother of two has opened up revealing how she struggled with self esteem issues back in the day.

According to Wahu when she was teenager she felt ugly, unintelligent; and above all she did not feel worth to be loved. This being part of the adolescent she probably did not imagine the effect it would have on her; until the insecurities got worse in her early 20’s. Through her gram the gospel singer wrote;

As a teenager and into my early twenties, I had terrible self esteem issues. I felt ugly, unintelligent and unworthy of being loved. I never thought I’d amount to anything much in life. I wish I could go back in time and tell 17 year old wahu that everything’s gonna be more than ok. That God is on her side and she will overcome.

Encouragement

With this story, Wahu went on to mention that she hopes it speaks massive to anyone struggling with anything that makes them feel less. She went on to add saying;

I dont know who needs to hear this but dont believe the lies the devil will throws your way. Gods got you young girl…Gods got you young man. And there’s nothing like being worthy of Gods love..no..his love is unconditional..it knows no religion, no “I’m good or im bad”…no “I dont deserve good things to happen to me”…no. Although we don’t get to hear much from Wahu like before; the lady continues to use her social media pages to spread positivity and encourage those at their lowest especially with the pandemic that has left many with money struggles!

Diamond Platnumz alleged baby mama Poshy Queen responds to pregnancy rumors

Voluptuous Tanzanian socialite Jacqueline Obed better known as Poshy Queen has been alleged to be heavily pregnant with bongo star, Diamond Platnumz´ fifth child.

The extra-curvy lass who has time and again given Kenyan bootyful socialite, Vera Sidika a run for her time and her money is rumored to have gone behind Tanasha´s back while she was still with Diamond.

Poshy had been spotted around Chibu during the Great Gatsby 707 grand event in Dar es Salam, mid-2019. It has since been reported that the curvy lass is 4 months pregnant for the superstar.

Reports the bongo socialite has come out to rubbish as false. Up and close with Tanzania´s Risasi, Poshy Queen distanced herself from the Bongo Flava King clarifying that she has never been involved with the singer.

According to her, people were free to talk as they please but denied the pregnancy.

Those are just rumors. People can say whatever they want to. I have never dated Diamond and I have no time for that man, I am not pregnant for him as it is being claimed on social media networks.

Bankruptcy

It had earlier been reported that a mogul who was financing the Internet sensation´s fashion business in Dar es Salaam had pulled out over claims she was seeing Diamond Platnumz.

This saw her shut down her shop which seemingly confirmed fans´ reports. However, Poshy has denied the claims, clarifying she had instead renovated and moved to a different location.

I have not closed my shop, I have moved it to Kijitonyama from Sinza-Kamanyola, Dar es Salaam. The shop is currently undergoing renovations but we´re selling items online.

Mama Diamond Platnumz also trashed the reports as false.

There´s no such thing those are just rumors on the Internet.

Nadia Mukami confesses to getting arrested twice (Video)

Mellow-voiced female songbird, Nadia Mukami has on several occasions been accused to be rude not just to fans but to everyone not known to her.

A stand she now believes was taken by individuals who did not like the fact that she is a woman and one who can stand for what she believes in.

Anyway, speaking to comedian Jalang´o, the African popstar pinned her character to the brutal things she had gone through in life. Unknown to many, Nadia spent nights behind bars after her fallout with Hailemind entertainment.

It all started when she had to move out of her parents´ house and fend for herself and a future.

I moved from Mwihoko in 2018, before I graduated. I just packed my things, when my parents left for work, and went to stay at Hailemind where I was signed. After Coke Studio, I got some cash and got a house at Fedha where I used to sleep on the floor.

Dispute

Nadia had already recorded 3 songs at Hailemind but it got to a place they could no longer work together. Unfortunately, the label got her arrested and took her to court.

I approached Hailemind entertainment, I had written my plan, biography and pitched myself. He signed me, we did 3 songs, on the 4th song I left. I was taken to court, I was arrested. I was crying everyday, I´m broke, I have big songs on TV, but I still had to smile.

The hustle proved fruitful in the end after wining the case against her accusers. Only to later get re-arrested and have her songs taken away.

Lawyers are not cheap, I won the case. I was arrested again, my dad intervened but I told him I will carry my cross. I had my songs Radio Love which were all taken away, I was not getting money from it. I actually won my case this year.

Anne Kiguta’s message of hope to colleagues fired from K24!

Anne Kiguta had a successful #Punchline show on Sunday, 21 June; but little did she know that her entire team was to be fired the next day!

Through her Instagram page the mother of two said to be involved with one of President Kenyatta’s kins went on to share a message of hope; as she celebrated them for being an amazing team that contributed to the success of her show.

As seen on her IG post, Ms Kiguta mentioned that it takes a village to create a good #Punchline show; and for this reason she remains grateful to everyone who helped deliver during the production of her program. She want on to post saying;

I would like to invite you to Emory Hotel in Kileleshwa tomorrow, Monday 22nd at 8:55am to discuss what this means to your employment. When you get to the hotel kindly ask for me. We thank you for your indulgence and cooperation in this matter.

Jalang´o bags 6 lucrative radio job offers hours after getting fired from Milele FM (Details)

Radio personality and comedian Felix Odiwuor better known as Jalang´o is currently a hot cake in the media industry after calling it quits at Mediamax-owned Milele FM.

Yesterday night, the Kenyan entertainment industry was enveloped with a dark cloud after the radio presenter gave his last goodbyes to Milele FM fans.

Fortunately, with sad goodbyes, comes handsome offers especially for veteran professionals and Jalang´o is not someone whose professional capacity we can debate about.

Lucrative offers

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the radio personality revealed he had since received 6 different offers from several radio stations, trying to poach his skills in the area of expertise.

I have received calls from six radio stations who want to hire my services.

Unfortunately, in as much as these are not your basic kind of offers, Jalang´o indicated he was not quite focused into going into employment first as he targets to build his own brand.

However, I will take a step back and see how the progress develops. Right now I am focused on Arena Media and I am looking forward to driving it to further success.

Additionally articulating that he needed to grow his YouTube channel – something he brought to life, soon after his infidelity scandals started doing the rounds.

I also have my YouTube channel which is growing. Digital is the next move and therein lies an opportunity to generate income, a lot of money.

Milele FM contract dispute

In his long post yesterday evening, Jalas divulged that the hard economic times had hit the Mediamax Limited that had seen it´s TV affiliate K24 send home all its newsroom employees.

According to him, unresolved terms of contract with his employers saw them disagree, therefore showing him the door.

In short Last Friday was my last day at Milele Fm. I want to thank everyone who supported me. Every fan who was with that to the point we became the most popular and No 1 Radio Station in the country.

Reports this morning were rife that Queen of Ohangla music, Lady Maureen had breathed her last, claims that saw the mother come out to rubbish as false.

Twitter was ablaze as fans sent their messages of comfort to the singer´s family during these down moments.

Unfortunately, a couple of users were forced to counter the claims with recent photos of the Benga musician walking on the streets of Kisumu, as a source of evidence.

Following the tarnishing and disheartening reports, Lady Maureen´s mother responded to Kahawa Tungu by confirming she is alive and recuperating well back at home.

Lady Maureen is alive, she is well. She is not dead, even though still unwell, she is alive. We were shocked to here she is dead. Someone who is sick and someone who is dead are two different people. Please tell her fans that she is alive.

Further adding that the singer is currently in Kenya unlike reports that her daughter was receiving treatment at a hospital in Mwanza, Tanzania.

Kenya´s Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe has confirmed reports that rapper, Kahush is his son, before disclosing his unknown relationship with Afro Pop artist, Kagwe Mungai.

Social media went wild after the UK-based rapper hinted that the Health CS was his dad, reports that went unconfirmed by the CS himself.

However, CS Kagwe just confirmed the reports during his morning interview on Citizen TV Kenya.

Kahush is my youngest son. He´s a first year student at Nottingham University in the UK. He is also a rapper and a good one too and I listen to his music sometimes Mi Siwezi.

The Health CS clarified that it was not in his place to dictate to his children who they need to become or what they need to do in future.

According to him, as long as there is talent and discipline, then that is all that matters.

On an interesting note, the Health CS indicated that singer and music producer, Kagwe Mungai is his nephew.

In our family, we have got musicians – Kahush is one, Kagwe Mungai my nephew is the other one. We have good golfers – Mutahi, Njoroge and Kagwe. Who knows what the next one would do?

For him, it did not matter what venture an individual took up or showed interest in, for as long as there is talent, the Health CS said parents can only support.

How DNG´s severe beatings saw ex-girlfriend Fiona sink into depression (Screenshots)

They say pride comes before a fall and in all that you do, spare the cameras but for many, this is a phrase that has lost meaning.

Hypeman and radio presenter, DNG and his girlfriend, Fiona James were the talk of town, the shining star amidst all these celebrity breakups, they gave hope that love still exists and many looked up to them.

They seemed to troop on trolls, calling out critics and leaving their best life. These two had grown such thick skin but well, seemed it got thinner with time.

Now, the pair is busy splashing mud on each other. And the reason why, has just been revealed by the lass, Fiona in a recent expose with Edgar Obare.

Exposed!

Fiona confessed that DNG has been violent towards her, but every time it happened, she would forgive him. With time, her wounds became too much to bear, she walked out and started having suicidal thoughts.

The light-skin babe felt embarrassed for defending and standing by a man who cheated on her, beat her up, treated her like trash, but she still afforded to smile at him every day he came back home.

Turns out, like she had previously confessed, his sidechick Totoray was not the reason why Fiona and DNG split the first time. Because after the expose, Fiona still went back to defend the crooner.

The Totoray drama apparently made DNG loose his cool on Fiona, who he started labeling ´a wh*re´ and telling her she would never much up to his standards.

Fiona was fed up and asked Edgar to spill it all in black and white because it was time the world knew about it all.

According to her, she had tried to change a man but realized it was not her place to do so and walked away.

Former TV broadcaster, Louis Onyango Otieno has become the talk of town after his son, Silas Miami reportedly got married to the love of his life, Patrick.

The young man confirmed the news online, announcing he was now happily married to his lover in South Africa, after finding true love in him.

Turns out that these two lovers wedded more than an year ago but sought to keep it wrapped under their arms until they were confident about it.

Silas who works as a filmmaker and photographer in the African country, showered his Mzungu lover with praises, acclaiming:

Silas hinted that once they hit 10 years of being together, they will tie the knot. However, none of them believes in the vocation of marriage. But having found something special in each other, they went for it.

But after months of us looking at options for what companionship would look like, especially seeing us travel isn´t exactly easy for us, we settled on going for it. Being a fitness enthusiast, Frankie spared the day for some gym workouts after which he dressed up and headed for the exterior.

In as much as we hoped he would be share some lunch or at least couple of hours with his baby mama and their two boys, it turned out to be a one-man show.

I´m gonna go home and eat. I have a class at 4 then another at 6. Then I can chill, relax.

He prepared a simple meal for himself, some avocado, pancakes and some salad. He however served two plates, which still leaves us questioning who the second plate belonged to.

Fatherhood

However, on a positive note, the gym instructor sought to shed light on his fatherhood journey, talking of the struggles of co-parenting and what legacy he would love to leave behind for his two boys.

My first born, Lexie is inquisitive, caring and very picky. Kai, my second born is playful, carefree and full of life. The most memorable thing to me, about Lexie was his birth date.

Talking of co-parenting, Frankie expressed remorse for always being distant from his sons who live with baby mama, Maureen Waititu.

Since I´m not with their mother, not seeing them everyday is one of the toughest. I would prefer to have them everyday. And I definitely want them to know I will always be there for them. I also want them to know that I motivate people, inspiring people to do and be better. I want them to look at me and be like ´this is the example I want to live by.´

Just recently Zari’s second born son opened up about his take on Diamond Platnumz dating their mum.

According to the young man, seeing their mother happy is all that mattered to him! And since Diamond Platnumz brought so much joy into their mum’s life; they had no option but to have him around. Ralph went in to say;

I didn’t mind because it’s who my mother chose so you know I can’t do anything. If he was making her happy at the time, then that was okay with me

When asked whether they ever hang out, Raph replied saying;

I was in boarding school at the time so I’d only come home a few times, I didn’t see him that much.

This also turns out to be the first Father’s Day Zari Hassan did not celebrate her late ex husband, Ivan Don. However seeing how she has praised him in the past few months; that was enough to figure out that she still appreciates him despite having passed on in his late 30’s.

If anything, the late Ivan Don left Zari with the best gifts of 3 sons who continue to make their mummy proud. Rumor has it that the eldest son will soon be turning 18 years; but Zari plans on keeping him away from the Instagram models already eyeing him.

Betty Kyallo and Dennis Okari decided to celebrate their daughter Ivanna ´s 6th birthday on Sunday, June 21 in a star-studded private event.

Ivanna was born on June 22 but in order to rope in everyone, they went for the weekend which saw the day feature as a complete episode on Betty Kyallo Lately.

However, on reminiscing the chain of events that took place during the little girl´s 5th birthday, the ex-TV girl only had memories of Ivanna in ICU.

Betty broke down on camera expressing:

I remember my baby was so sick, so sick! She was in ICU for a month and a half. I was so losing my baby. The things that my baby just went through, it was just horrible. And every day since then I´m always just praying for her to be okay, hoping it will never happen again.

Unfortunately, the 31-year old had lost hope of ever seeing Ivanna coming back home.

I woke up one day last year and she couldn´t walk. The next day she can´t talk, she can´t eat, she can´t sit…it just went downhill for so long before I even knew what was wrong. I always looked at her bed whenever I came home from the hospital and I always wondered ´will she ever come home to her bed?´

Either way, the former K24 journalist thanked God that Ivanna made it through, labeling her ´a miracle baby´.

So baby Ivanna I know you´re going to watch this video one day in your life, just know I love you so much.

NTV prime time news anchor, Dennis Okari who is Ivanna´s dad, was also present at the event and for his baby girl, he went down on his knees, as he articulated his blessings for the 6-year old.

The world is all about Black Lives Matter in a bid to fight for equal opportunities for all people regardless of color and origin.

Kenyans have also taken to the streets, protested outside embassies, tweeted and retweeted about this now popular and trending hashtag.

But what many have not stopped to ask is: What of the local scenario? Well, it turns out that the bias based on looks is not something foreign on our Kenyan motherland if recent examples are anything to go by.

TV girl, Yvonne Okwara has always been comfortable in her skin tone – but the media industry spoke of a different tale.

Discrimination

Taking to her Instagram, the Citizen TV news anchor spoke of how ´underprivileged´ girls and women of darker skin have been discriminated against.

We are all talking about black lives matter. But we also need to reflect on our own culture in this part of the world. Colourism. Darker skinned girls and women are treated differently. We have to work twice as hard, be twice as smart to get ahead, because, what else do we have going for us, right? Because, inadvertently or otherwise this is the standard that has been set: light skin= beauty= opportunity= work = wealth= good marriage = beautiful children.

Speaking of a trend that has forced the darker shade of girls and women to seek out for skin lightening products which society has now come out to condemn.

To this, she questions ´why?´ because the very same society that is pointing fingers, is the very same society that pushed these individuals to the wall.

Before you stand up for the BLM movement, before you judge men and women for lightening their skin, telling them to love their skin, why not examine what got us here and how we got here?

Speaking of her own experiences:

On a personal note, it’s not been easy for me. Especially in this industry, I’ve seen the privilege that light skin has accorded others. I’ve seen them get away with murder, when I’ve been held to a higher standard. I’ve been expected to be smarter because, “you don’t have the looks so you’ve got to use your brain instead” It hasn’t been easy,
It’s exhausting at times, but it’s also rewarding. But it needs to change.

Babu Owino speaks for first time since DJ Evolve was discharged

Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino is on the receiving end after Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve was released from hospital looking frail and unstable.

The DJ who had suffered injuries to his spine after an almost fatal shooting in January at Nairobi´s B-Club and his family have been battling medical bills following several surgeries he underwent.

Despite being set free to return home on Thursday, June 18, what many have been left worried about is the hefty medical bill that Felix´ treatment accrued.

Babu Owino responds

Speaking to TUKO regards the same, the legislator claimed he had cleared the medical bill that had ballooned upwards of KSh 17 million.

According to the young lawmaker, there is no way the DJ would have been discharged without clearing pending hospital bills.

I sorted his (DJ Evolve) bill of KSh 17 million and that is why the hospital allowed him to be discharged, he won´t have been discharged without the bill being sorted.

This is after the entertainer´s father had previously come out to state that his son´s bill was still pending.

Babu further clarified to masses that despite media reports of the disc jockey´s unstable condition and frail state, he is actually improving and responding well to treatment.

Adding that Felix will now be attended to from his home.

I have heard people raise concerns about the condition of the patient and I want to tell you DJ Evolve was discharged by doctors on account that his condition had improved and could be managed from home.

Fans had raised concern after the DJ stepped out looking weak and tired, yesterday, as he was being wheeled into an ambulance following his discharge from the hospital.

DJ Evolve has been receiving treatment from The Nairobi Hospital for at least 5 months now after the fatal incident of January 6, 2020.

K24´s woes deepen as employees address disturbing letter to President Uhuru (Screenshots)

It has been a worrying trend in Mediamax-owned television station, K24 since the very day it announced a mass firing amongst its employees, thereafter declaring a 50% pay cut on them.

Yes, these are distressing and hard economic times in the country and the world at large, as we grapple to fight the spread and mass destruction of the deadly Coronavirus.

However, in as much as retrenchments and pay cuts are taking effect each passing day, it is only noble to consult your employees before arriving at any decisions severely affecting them.

Penning a letter addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta whose family is a major shareholder of the Mediamax network, staff cried out on the lack of dialogue regards their employment contracts.

Outcry

According to them, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ken Ngaruiya´s approach to these troubled times has been nothing but unilateral.

He reportedly went ahead to breach the employees´ contracts by backdating a pay cut notice while the month was actually ending.

He, [Ken Ngaruiya] on April 19, 2020, issued a notice on a 50% pay cut across nearly all cadres of staff and backdated to April 1. Though this was 19 days into a month, he didn´t seem to care about the welfare of the workers weighed down by the pressures of Covid-19 and other responsibilities.

To this, employees pinned the ongoing crisis at the Kijabe street-located TV station that saw employees move to court to defend their breached terms of contract.

Unfortunately, those that moved to court went without 2-months´ salaries and even after trying to involve the acting CEO in dialogue, their efforts were countered with ´blackmail, intimidation and other cheap maneuvers´.

He has not only delayed salaries, but withheld pay for those he has labeled enemies for going to court. He has also ignored court order after court order with a grand sense of impunity, claiming that he is untouchable.

Speaking of court orders, Wednesday, June 10, Justice Bryam Ongaya issued an order to the company to fully pay its employees their pending April and May salaries.

With no orders on costs and with further orders that the contract of service between parties is preserved with no pay cuts but affected staff may go on redundancy per law and prevailing contracts. The contract is in place without pay cuts and the law says when they should be paid so the law is in place.

Court orders that Mr Ngaruiya allegedly disobeyed – a move the employees termed ´total disregard for a legitimate legal process´.

The K24 acting CEO is reportedly set to be sending employees who went to court parking, with no penny which will only end up inflicting pain on those involved and their families.

We find it disrespectful that he is invoking your name and that of your family to ignore court orders and turn DSM into a doghouse.

Closing off, the letter read in part:

Sir, please save us from the Ngaruiya knee-lock. We can´t breathe! Ngaruiya must not be let to wallow in his delusional air of arrogance and impunity to the detriment of hardworking and diligent workers…

According to them, it is this impunity that saw the likes of media firebrands like Betty Kyallo quit on Live TV.

KRA

As we speak, the Kenya Revenue Authority issued a notice regards the Paye Tax return verification to the Mediamax Newtork Limited asking that certain documents be availed to the revenue body as of June 17.

Two officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority were sent to the premises to verify the indicated records – among them being the payroll, contract letters and the hiring and redundancies schedules of the company.

Unfortunately, I don´t and its a mistake that was made by my parents.

Surprisingly, the last time the artist set foot in his roots was during his father´s burial. And that is not that he voluntarily went, it´s just that it was an obligation he could not say ´no´ to.

Learning from his past, the rapper who has time and again never shied away from talking about his love life, his wife and kids articulated that he does not wish to see his kids have a broken relationship with him.

That was the time my dad had passed away and we had to. I think that´s the first and last time that I will ever visit. We don´t have a relationship, its a bad thing and I would not want that to happen to my kids. But that´s how life happened and unfortunately, I don´t go back.

Ben Kitili professes the Christian faith while Amina Mude hails from the Muslim religion and believe you me, the two have wedded, had children and still on the journey of marriage together, but still professing different faiths.

Many have asked how their two children will even decided which side to pick, but that question has remained unanswered, with Mrs Kitili of the belief that their two children have the freedom of religion.

Not able to make firm choices, not able to recognize herself anymore, because her life was just but the routine – anxiety, depression were the faces of her everyday life.

I became a person of horrible choices. I couldn´t recognize myself anymore because I woke up every day trying to just get by and I don´t want to just get by anymore. More than ever, I had moments of anxiety and moments of depression. I had moments of ¨I don´t know what to do next¨ because this pressure is unnatural for a human being. And what comes after that?

¨This may come as a shock to many because I hid it so well but I was depressed and an alcoholic,¨ she continued.

I became a robot and I have no desire to be a robot or be unhappy anymore, because that´s what I was, unhappy. Had moments of ¨we are enjoying this¨, I had moments of ¨this is fun¨, moments of ¨this is a beautiful day¨.

People will tell you half-truth about what really goes on and the truth is I just wanna be an advocate for honesty and beauty and being a sincere advocate for what ´facing your demons can do do you´.

To her fans, she said it was time she bid the world of music goodbye because she has done what she needed to do and it is now time to be a light to the world.

Now my fans are probably asking themselves right now: Are you gonna never sing again? Are we never gonna see you perform? Let me reiterate, I love music, I love to create, I love to perform, I´m a vessel, this is what I was brought on earth to be.
