The political landscape in Lang’ata Constituency is heating up after popular comedian and activist Eric Omondi made a public appearance that drew an enthusiastic crowd, fueling speculation that he intends to challenge current area Member of Parliament, Jalang’o, in the 2027 General Election.

While Omondi has not officially declared an interest in running for political office, his consistent vocal criticism of the government and perceived public support suggest a growing political ambition.

Warm Reception in Mugumoini

In a post shared on Tuesday, December 9, Omondi was seen receiving a significantly warm reception from constituents in the Mugumoini area of Lang’ata.

The video footage showed Omondi immediately surrounded by a large group of cheering young people. Escorted by the youth and a vehicle equipped with a public address system, he stopped to greet local business people and consulted with residents of various ages who eagerly shared their issues with him.

Omondi’s message focused heavily on youth mobilization. Standing atop a vehicle to address the swelling crowd, he pressed them on their electoral readiness.

“Do you have a vote? If you do, let me see your hand. If you don’t, please do. This time round, we want the youths to take control,” he urged.

He echoed this sentiment in his social media caption, writing:

“Today I visited Mugumoini in Lang’ata Constituency. The youth have said they will take the vote, and they will vote. A new dawn approaches; a new Kenya is possible.”

The Potential Jalang’o Showdown

Should Eric Omondi decide to go up against Jalang’o, who is also a former comedian, the election would set up an explosive showdown between two of Kenya’s most popular public figures.

Netizens quickly reacted in the comments section, suggesting that the warm reception Omondi received in Jalang’o’s backyard must be making the current MP “nervous,” with many admitting that Omondi poses tough competition given his national celebrity status and platform on youth issues.

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, commonly known as Jalang’o, recently offered advice to men who are unable to meet their partner’s financial needs. During a Q&A session with journalist Shiko Gitau, Jalang’o expressed that men who cannot fully support their women financially should reconsider dating, as it reflects a lack of purposeful leadership.

In a significant verdict, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has overturned the decision to expel Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda and MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Felix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor (Lang’ata) from the ODM Party.

The Tribunal’s decision, which was not unanimous, held that the ODM Party’s Disciplinary Committee had infringed upon the rights of the legislators to a fair hearing. Specifically, the Tribunal objected to the fact that Professor Ben Sihanya, a Lecturer in a Public University, chaired the Disciplinary Committee.

“It is the Tribunal’s view that by virtue of being a Lecturer in a Public University, Professor Sihanya was barred from taking a substantive seat or position in a Political Party in this case the ODM,” the Tribunal ruled.

The dissenting member of the Tribunal, however, argued that the Tribunal lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter, asserting that only the Registrar of Political Parties could determine the issue.

Despite the dissenting view, the Tribunal concluded that the Complaints by the members were merited.

“We found that the Disciplinary Proceedings were unprocedural and restrained the Registrar from removing the Complainants, Tom Ojienda, Odhiambo, Ochanda, Jalang’o and Caroli from the Orange Democratic Movement Party,” it was ruled.

While the Tribunal’s decision offers a temporary reprieve for the MPs, the ODM Party has indicated its intention to appeal the decision or re-institute charges against the members.

The case highlights the importance of due process in disciplinary proceedings and the role of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal in safeguarding the rights of political party members.

Jalang’o, the Lang’ata Member of Parliament, has mocked the request to organize AFCON 2027 matches in the cities of Kakamega and Kisumu. He argues that the cities are far from being ready to host the big African competition, and that even Nairobi itself is not ready.

Jalang’o points out that hosting the opening ceremony would require at least 32 luxury hotels and 50,000 beds. He also argues that better training grounds are needed for the big competition.

My opinion on Jalang’o’s statement

I agree with Jalang’o that Kenya needs to be more prepared before it can host AFCON 2027. The country has a lot of work to do in terms of infrastructure and logistics.

However, I also think that Jalang’o is being a bit harsh on Kakamega, Kisumu, and Eldoret. These cities are growing rapidly and have a lot of potential. I think it is important to give them a chance to prove themselves.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to host AFCON 2027 is up to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). I hope that CAF will take all of the factors into account before making a decision.

Jalang’o, a Kenyan radio personality and member of parliament, has been hospitalized after suffering a leg injury while playing basketball. The incident occurred on September 27, and Jalang’o was rushed to Nairobi Hospital for treatment.

Jalang’o has not disclosed any further details about his injury, but he has shared a video of himself lying in a hospital bed on social media. The video is accompanied by the caption “Day two in the hospital.”

Eli Omundu, the former groundsman of Jalang’o who was fired for stealing Ksh1 million, has been reinstated after the intervention of Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

Omundu, speaking during an interview on 2mbili TV, said he sought divine intervention from Pastor Ezekiel after all attempts to convince Jalang’o to rehire him failed.

Omundu said he travelled to Kilifi to attend a prayer service at Pastor Ezekiel’s New Life Prayer Centre and Church. He also revealed that he was given a thread by Pastor Ezekiel, which he still has.

It is unclear how Pastor Ezekiel’s intervention led to Omundu’s reinstatement, but Omundu expressed gratitude to the pastor for his help.

Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Jalang’o has reinstated his former groundsman Eli Omundu, who stole Ksh1 million from him in June 2023.

Omundu was interviewed by Jalang’o on his YouTube channel, where he narrated how he conspired with a former colleague, Morrison Litiema, to steal from the MP.

He continued to say that he and Litiema were working at Jalang’o’s home on June 4, 2023, when Litiema noticed a large sum of cash in a BMW parked in the driveway. Litiema stole the cash and fled, and Omundu followed him.

The two men were eventually caught and arrested, but they were released on bail. Omundu said that he was ashamed of what he had done and apologized to Jalang’o.

“I know that what he did was wrong, but I also believe that everyone deserves a second chance,” Jalang’o said. “I am confident that Eli has learned his lesson and that he will not make the same mistake again.”

Omundu said that he was grateful for Jalang’o’s forgiveness and promised to be a better man.

“I am so sorry for what I did,” Omundu said. “I know that I let you down, but I promise that I will never do anything like that again.”

Former Kiss FM presenter Jalang’o has forgiven two of his former employees who allegedly stole from him and offered them their jobs back.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Jalang’o asked Eli, one of the employees, to tell him the truth about what happened.

Lang’ata Member of Parliament, Jalang’o, has rehired his former employee, Eli Omundu, who fled his home in 2022 after stealing money from his car.

In response to probable rivals coveting his seat in the general elections of 2027, Lang’ata MP Jalang’o spoke out.

Kibe joked that he will face Jalang’o on the ballot in the general election of 2027 while sharing a campaign flyer from the general elections of 2013.
