The government has successfully evacuated 26 Kenyan citizens from South Africa, marking the beginning of an ongoing repatriation exercise triggered by escalating security unrest targeting foreign nationals.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, emergency protocols were activated on Sunday, June 28, via a multi-agency evacuation team.
The first batch of evacuees touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday morning, June 29, where they were provided with essential consular services and psychosocial support. Officials noted that over 60 more citizens are expected to land later in the day.
“The Government is also facilitating alternative travel arrangements for additional citizens and will continue repatriation efforts until all who wish to return are safely home,” the State Department confirmed.
