Abbas Showcases His Videos at International Symposium

Abbas was part of African Music Archives’ international symposium at Mainz University as part of his German tour. The “African Music in the 21st Century” workshop’s aim was to discuss various aspects of music on the continent, traditional and contemporary genres and other storytelling platforms.

Abbas, who was the East African representative at the symposium, also showcased 10 of his best videos at the event. After that, the rapper did a two-hour set for fans. Abbas had previously lectured at the University of Bayreuth and performed in a number of shows around Germany.

Other distinguished members at the symposium included Philadelphia’s Mr. Richard M. Shain, Helene Neveu of Oxford, Kinshasa’s Leon Tsambu, David Coplan from Johannesburg, Heike Becker from Cape Town , Montreal’s Bob White and director of Africa Music Archives Hauke Dorsch among others.

Epic. Prezzo, Keitta and Wati have a rap battle

It’s been long since we saw the boys get together and have some fun (including Prezzo). The seclusion that he was facing a while back after Goldie’s departure seems to have come to an end.

The boys today were feeling lyrical and decided to have a head to head rap battle and they didn’t hold back at all. They were all in a jovial mood and it Keitta who decided to take it to the next level.

They all seem to have musical talent and don’t worry, Prezzo did not dissapoint at all. Check out the video below.

OUCH! Kenrazy exposes some rappers with lame lyrics

In our recent interview with the self proclaimed ‘best lyricist’ and one of the most hard hitting rappers in Kenya, Kenrazy, a lot was brought to light including opinions that might raise debate.

On account of being the best lyricist, we had to find out the criteria behind this title, and it turns out that according to Kenrazy, some of the Kenyan artistes have really lame lyrics and makes you wonder why you are listening to their tracks in the first place. This is true (I don’t mean about the particular artistes mentioned though).

Check out Kenrazy going hard on what he terms as lame lyrics.

Gospel goes crunk once again

With the awesome growth of the Kenyan gospel music industry and the constant music coming from it, competition has proven to be a lot stiffer than it is for their counterparts in secular music.

Iclaat is not a new comer in this field and he displays his capability in this song. He goes all out on the video and the flow that he uses to deliver his lyrics, kind of reminds me of Chiwawa’s flow.

Having taken the crunk approach for the song ‘Kadhaa’, which I have to say, managed to pull it off, you know that the video had to have a hyped up activity going on. That might explain the guys doing all the stunts with the Rollerblades and what not.

Check out the video below.

Could Prezzo be missing Goldie, even after all that trash talking?

I think it is about that time when Prezzo starts missing Goldie’s presence and tries all his best to hide it from the rest of the housemates and the viewers.

Today, we witnessed a very unlikely turn of events. Prezzo woke up and headed to the kitchen, only to wash the dishes. If I remember correctly, Prezzo only did this once in a while so he could hang out with Goldie while chatting boredom away.

The things that people do sometime, especially those that we are not used to doing, simply come in replacement of some cherished memories that are currently history. This is just the case with Prezzo.

A sad story this is.

Newbies throwing it up

Very rarely do we see new comers in the music industry make a debut with a really hot and interesting video.

This groups of artistes managed to throw a party for the shoot of their video and guess what, the party WAS the video. As they drunk the night away and danced with the beautiful ladies, the video managed to tell more than the song does.

The song ‘Iko nini‘ which is intended to be a party song is done by rappers Generali, Deksta, Muchii and Triple A.

Check out the video below and give us your honest opinions.

Check out Crew Teflon’s Accurate lay down some bars

It’s all about the love for rap, and every rapper should obviously posses it. Better yet, every rapper should be able to lay down some awesome bars anytime time on request.

I just randomly came across this video on YouTube featuring Nairobi’s Crew Teflon rapper, Accurate. This group is officially the next big thing to come out of Nairobi, just moments after Camp Mulla.

Their skills on the mic cannot be compared to their age. They may be young, but their skill isn’t.

Check out Accurate on a normal day.

The Most Played Local Artistes in Kenyan Media

The Music Copyright Society of Kenya presented awards to the biggest contributors in terms of royalties at the Crystal Ballroom of the Laico Regency on the 14th of July.

Besides music legends, icons and contributors, they also recognized artistes who songs have received the most airplay in a number of radio stations. They include:

Radio Africa GroupWyre
KTNMOG
Capital FMAbbas
Ghetto RadioZakah na Kah

One artiste was not the most played on any of the named stations but the plays his music got across all radio stations beat out all the rest, which means he is the artiste who receives constant airplay across the board. And it is:

Kenrazy: Yes, I am the best lyricist

Self proclaimed ‘best lyrics’ Kenrazy has been all about the music. Having done music collaborations for most part of the year, Kenrazy is not about to stop or go slow.

Seeing that he is clearly one of the most hardworking rappers as we have always stated, Kenrazy, just like any other artiste, has had people who disagree with him on more than one matter.

On a recent interview with Kenrazy, Team Ghafla dug in deep into the life and music that sorounds him. With some of the fans disagreeing that he is the best lyricist, we had to hear his argument and get what exactly he means by this.

Take a look at the interview below.

Calling All Dance Crews, Sakata Season 3 Is Here! You’re Chance to Audition

Probably Kenya’s leading dance battle competition, Sakata Ball on Citizen TV, is set for a spectacular comeback in a third season special set for screening later in the year.

The organizers are looking for passionate and talented dance crews to show up for their auditions set to be held this coming weekend.

Sakata Season 3 are calling on dance groups of 4 to 6 members and above the age of 18 years to come to the MGM studios, Hillcrest College, on State House Road, near Nairobi Primary School on the 21st of July 2012 from 9.00am to 6.00pm.

Groups are required to dance to TWO tracks, including African music, of 2 minutes each. The last edition of Sakata featured a heated show down between two deserving crews, I-EMAS and FBI but the latter walked away with the spoils.

All the best to the dance crews as you bring your best to the floor!

Stephen Covey, Author of ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ Dies

If in your childhood or young adulthood you did not peruse through the pages of some of the titles ‘the 7 Habits’ then you must have missed a crucial part of growing up. From ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’ to ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’, Stephen Covey built a self-help brand that went on to sell more than 25 million copies worldwide as the global population sought answers within the pages of his titles.

One of the pioneers of guides to personal effectiveness, the author Stephen Covey passed away Monday night, 16th July 2012 at the age of 79, following complications he had developed after a bicycle accident he had earlier in April. Covey died in a hospital in the American state of Idaho, surrounded by his family and friends.

‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ was such a massively successful book that it was translated into over 38 languages in over 60 countries. The book is also popular in Kenyan bookstores as well as secondary and tertiary learning institutions in the country. The author had personally taught upto 36 heads of state ways of improving their effectiveness.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Stephen R. Covey. His seminal work, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” will forever be one of the most influential books in the field of self-improvement,” said Carolyn K. Reidy, president and CEO of Simon & Schuster, Inc., which published his book, said in a statement.

Chiwawa Joins Twitter…Twice!

Chiwawa has joined Twitter…twice. The rapper joined and followed a fellow rapper and a local radio station and made two tweets but about an hour later, he started using a new account with the same avatar and bio. He’s been using the second account more consistently and it seems to be the one he’ll be using from now on.

On both profiles, @Chiwawa_King and @Chiwawa254, he describes himself as a “Kenyan Hiphop Artiste, CHAT award winner, Song-writer, Producer, Dedicated Father & Family Man. LIKE MY PAGE – CHIWAWA on FACEBOOK WORLDWIDE.” On the second profile he immediately followed fellow music personalities, mostly rappers and urban radio stations.

One of Chiwawa’s earlier songs includes Get Crunk with Attitude. He made an entrance into the Kenyan music scene with a diss to the Kleptomaniacs titled Tunaendelea. His biggest hit to date  is Mnafeel Aje. He recently released AbbaChiwa Show with Abbas.

Awkward. Prezzo bonds with Lady May

I think Prezzo and Lady may have just realised that they are all they have as everybody else in the Big Brother House is against them.

The two last night played checkers as they talked about anything that crossed their minds. Prezzo was actually the one doing most of the talking and Lady May was gladly listening, knowing too well that she also needs his friendship as much as he need hers.

Prezzo did what he has never done with anyone else in th house except Goldie. He opened up to Lady May. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that the two might just get something going on between them if they make it past another week.

Abbas Kubaff to perform alongside East Africa’s best in Frankfurt, Germany

It’s been a while since we heard about Abbas, personally. We do know what he’s up to though, all the way in Germany, Abbas is still doing it big. Concerts taking up most of his time there, but then again, that’s one of the reasons he’s in Germany in the first place.

On the 4Th of August 2012, Abbas will be performing alongside huge East African names like DJ Chichi, Anna Mpenzi, Reggae Diva (Lioness) and Henry Kalanda (Big Cat) at Frankfurt.

The concert which is dubbed ‘East African Summer Jam will also have a live performance from Italy reggae band, Afreeka.

The event is being organised by the so called ‘best events organiser’, Deejay Nature (Hakuna Matata).

To top it all off, since all the East Africans in Frunkfurt will obviously flock there, nyama choma, ugali and kachumbari will be in plenty at the barbecue and party which will go on all night long.

STL has dominated the Kenyan hip hop scene as one of the most consistent female rappers in the country’s hip hop scene. Enter Lega-C, a new artiste who raps in both English and Swahili ready to represent the local female rappers.

Keagan and Kyle try to convince the housemates to nominate the Upvillers for eviction

Yap! The plan to kick out Lady May and Prezzo has been set to motion. Luckily, not everybody in the house is comfortable with this.

As usual, the conniving housemates, Keagan and Kyle are up to no good. They are now trying to bring aboard the rest of the housemates in the plan to get all the original Upville members out of the house.

It is the reason they chose to go with that made Talia against it all. Apparently, they think that the Upviller don’t deserve to win the money and that they (Downvillers), deserve it way much more.

Talia believes that this is not fare and that the winner should be chosen and judged farely and not by what they already have. I agree 100%.

There is however no need to worry. The housemates nominations doesn’t really count much on whether they will stay or not. Last week, Lady May and Kyle had the highest number of nominations in house while Goldie had the lowest (2 to be precise). Yet, she is the one who got evicted. It all comes down to what we (the viewers) decide. So let’s get voting.

Prezzo talks trash about Nigeria’s Goldie!

Prezzo has not wasted anytime and is already talking greasy about Goldie after the nightingale’s departure…

What i don’t understand is why he waited for the songstrss’ departure to open up about how fake he believes she was. Thing is, if he looked around he would realize he doesn’t have an ally anymore and that would scare any sane man!

But rather than take stock of what he’s lost, he would much rather complain to Biggie about the wonderful lass during his “Diary Session”? In as much as i am #TeamKenya and #TeamPrezzo, i don’t agree with the approach taken by the King-of-Bling.

Anyway, enough jibber-jabber, you watch the video and decide what to make of it.

Spotted: Is Ala-C interested in some ‘JUJU’ works?

This is by far the weirdest and most hilarious photo that a Kenyan celebrity has ever been in, and scariest at the same time.

Have we called Ala-C to confirm what exactly he was doing with this questionable character at this queer location, you ask?

No. Quite frankly, I’m not sure we are ready for the answer. What possible acceptable answer could we get from this? For now, lets all just laugh and wonder. We’ll get the facts later.

Can you believe this? Alex nominates Prezzo for evictions, AGAIN

When all the Kenyan contestants in the Big Brother show entered the house, they promised to have each other’s backs. Even without the promise, I think it’s just common sense to save the brother you know, then maybe get rid of him when the time to grab the money comes.

I guess that’s not the case with Kenya’s Alex. He has for the second time nominated fellow Kenyan, Prezzo, for eviction from the Big Brother House. This sucks! And the reason for him nominating Prezzo is as silly as the nomination itself. Apparently, Prezzo is being friendly to Alex now that Goldie is off the game. Is that even a reason?

I have a feelling that Alex is going to go through what Kaz went through after stabbing Didge in the back at the Project Fame Show in South Africa. This just isn’t polite at all.

This is why the six BBA housemates nominated Prezzo for evictions

Today, we saw six of the Big Brother Housemates nominate Prezzo for eviction, almost immediately after his close companion, Goldie was evicted from the house.

Like I said before, this is going to be a very tough week for the Kenyan celebrity as almost everyone in the house is against him. Even fellow Kenyan, Alex. Is that sad or what?

Here are the reasons that the housemates gave for nominating Prezzo.

Keitta: Apparently, he’s still pissed off with Prezzo and his drunken behaviours. He also claims that Prezzo is not real with him at all. Really? I tend to think vise versa.

Kyle: He says that Prezzo has a really bad temper, but mostly because he didn’t like the way he handled his fight with Goldie two days ago.

Keagan: Prezzo gets easily angered and that he is sly.

Talia: Prezzo is a little bit too bouncy and the other reason being that there are two Kenyans in the house. At-least that’s a real reason right there.

Alex: Apparently, this guy isn’t too happy that Prezzo is now being friendly, considering that Goldie just left the house. He tends to think that Prezzo is approaching him simply because he has no one else he can relate too.

Wati: He says that Prezzo is too much of an actor, too moody and is also two sided.

I guess we’ll just have to play this one with Prezzo.

Kenrazy talks about his relationship with Calif Records and Jomino after departure from both labels

As Kenrazy keeps on doing his music and introducing new artistes to the music industry, his name grows bigger and bigger and most of his music are on many’s playlists.

However, there has been speculations on the relationship between him and Calif Records, as well as Jomino Entertainment. Soon after his departure from both labels, word has been that beef sprouted between the rapper and the said labels.

At a recent interview with Ghafla!, Kenrazy opened up and told us everything concerning the so called ‘beef’.

Catch it all in the video below.

Photo Gallery: Jua Cali Washes a Tank

Jua Cali is preparing to release an album, putting out music and shooting videos to promote the new record. It might seem like the genge artiste has his hands full, but the Calif Records member recently took time to make an appearance on a GBS show, not to promote or talk about his music but to wash a tank. Jua Cali went to Kabete, put on his overalls and put his back into it. Check out the photos below.

You can check out the rest of the photos here.

Photo Gallery: Behind the Scenes at Jua Cali and Juliani’s Video Shoot

Jua Cali is working on a new album and recently released featured tracks: Baba Yao, Kuna Sheng and Si Siri. The last release being a collaboration with gospel artiste Juliani. The album Genge Yajayo is expected to be released soon and he is working on promotional material.

Last week, a behind-the-scenes video for Si Siri hit the Internet. And this week, photos from the shoot have also been released. The one-minute video showed Jua Cali sporting a new hairstyle. The photos shows him actually getting the do done. From the look of things, the change in his hairstyle will be part of the video.

All the photos seem to have been taken at the same location, so there’s a chance the video will only have one scene. But since it has been shot in front of a green screen, scenarios might change. But then again, it doesn’t look like Jua Cali and Juliani had a wardrobe change during the shoot. Check out the photos below.

You can check out the rest of the photos here.

The war against Prezzo in the BBA is now on

It has already started. We might be in trouble. The housemates have already cast their nominations and I have to say that it doesn’t look pretty at all for Prezzo. If there was ever a time when he needed saving, it is now.

This time, Prezzo got six nominations while Alex got only two. They went all out on him. The only person who might have gotten as much hate from the housemates as Prezzo, maybe even more, is Lady May. It seems that the Downvillers are very much threatened by the remaining Upvillers.

Briefly, here is how the nominations went:

Keitta: Lady May and Prezzo

Kyle: Prezzo and Lady May

Keagan: Prezzo and Lady May

Lady May: Wati and Keagan

Talia: Prezzo and Alex

Alex: Lady May and Prezzo

Prezzo: Keagan and Talia

Wati: Prezzo and Alex

Jannette: Lady May and Wati

More trouble for Prezzo as Kyle becomes the new HOH

I have a feeling that this week, Prezzo is going to have it really rough and I just hope he will be able to handle it all now that he has no one to share his woes with, seeing that Goldie is now officially out of the house.

It is clear that Goldie was the only housemate that Prezzo could relate to, after Roki. The rest are just backstabbers and can not be trusted, as Prezzo puts it. Now, he is left with all that have betrayed him once or even more times.

Wait, it gets even worse. Remember last week during a conversation between Uganda’s Kyle and Kenya’s Alex, where Kyle was talking so much ill about Prezzo and how ‘fake’ he is? Well, that same Kyle is the Head Of House right now.

This just spells trouble for Prezzo and all the more reason for us to go hard on the voting. Let’s just try our best to keep Prezzo in this competitive house.
