Citizen TV’s Top Reporter Evelyn Wambui Gets Married (Photos)

You may not know her face well, but you can recognize her voice. Her name is Evelyn Wambui and she is one of the top news reporters from award-winning station Citizen TV.She covers the human interest stories.

Evelyn yesterday joined the likes of Emmy Kosgei in marital bliss and married her long time beau, Karuri Nyaga.
The blushing bride was certainly a sight to behold in her pristine white, strappy, full-skirted wedding gown with pearl details on the bodice. The groom was in a black suit and green tie which matched beautifully with the theme of the wedding.

Their ride was also top of the range and they chose to travel in a white sleek Bentley. Here are some photos from the plush wedding courtesy of Dennis Itumbi

Take A Look Into KBC’s Fantastic New Studio (Photo)

‘Out with the old and in with the new ‘is a phrase KBC seems to be taking literally.

The oldest station in Kenya recently revamped its look and changed its line-up. They brought in some new anchors such as Roncliffe Odit and promoted others from their radio franchise.
But that is not the only change; they have also gotten rid of their dining table and virtual studio for something really snazzy.

Anyiko Owoko a presenter in the station gave us a sneak peek into their new studio which I have to admit looks pretty fantastic!

SAD: Ruhila Adatia’s Former Colleagues Celebrate Her Birthday (Photo)

Ruhila Adatia was a lively TV and Radio personality who described herself as a “food lover, thrill seeker and a bungee jump away from sanity”.

Last year, Ruhila unfortunately met her untimely death in the hands of callous gunmen on 21st September. On that fateful day, masked gunmen invaded the up market Westgate Mall, spraying shoppers with bullets, leaving 67 dead and 175 injured in their wake. Among them, Ruhila who was hosting a cooking competition for children at the rooftop car park of the Westgate.

At the time she met her death; Ruhila was married to Ketan Sood and were expecting a child together. Well today is Ruhila’s birthday and Radio Africa employees were celebrating it sharing fond memories of the vibrant presenter.

Grace Msalame said “Unforgettable you are… You still inspire me to be better, to always choose happiness, work damn hard & know my worth… Forever Missed.”

American Televangelist Creflo Dollar Jets into The Country. All Thing Private; From the Jet to Security

His arrival would easily be mistaken for a presidential entrance; American televangelist landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in a style that is best known only our own president or for other seating head of states for foreign countries.

Ask me and I would say his arrival far dwarfs our own swagger boy Sonko. How many of our trend setters usually make their trips on a private jet? As far as I can remember I have counted none. The American televangelist is the founder of the non-denominational World Changers Church International based in Fulton County, Georgia and is in the country for three days of evangelical duty.

The American is being hosted by Bishop Mark Kariuki of the Deliverance Church. Here are some of the photos from the American arrival:

Meet Ala C’s Housekeeper girlfriend, She is Pretty as Well

They say love is blind and that you do not chose who you fall in love with. It may or may not be true but singer Ala C has a new love.

Singer Ala C is so proud to praise his new girlfriend, she might be a maid but he sure loves her so much to feature her in a video. Alas! It is only a cast of a new music video, I thought he seriously had a thing for the house help. Anyway this how it is; Ala C has dropped another charming song dubbed Kama Wimbo.

It is a love song depicting a hustling Ala C falling for a house help and eventually making her quit her work and together they take a cart ride to sunset. Ala C is a darling of the ladies I am sure this new song will make them love him even more. Check out the video here:

Yet another road carnage is wreaking havoc to a family of a bishop and gospel singer in the country, a very sad news indeed.

Information just reaching Ghafla a few moment ago; Ben Bahati a bishop and singer has been involve in a terrible road accident. According to close contact, the singer has been rushed to the hospital where is receiving medical attention.

Ben Bahati is best known for his song Atakukumbuka and he is also widely recognized for his evangelical duties he has been doing across the globe. Friends and family are sending in their prayers and consolation in his official Facebook account. The entire Ghafla team too wishes him a quick recovery.

Kenya’s Own T-Pain Doing it ‘Big’ on Ghetto Radio

The Multi award Winner (One Gospel Awards, South Africa & Groove Awards, Kenya), Daniel Ng’ang’a Heho aka Hey-z da Brand just released a new song that has been doing really great and in almost all Nairobi- based stations, the ‘Kisogo’ jam has been played over and over again.

This Kenya’s top Gospel artist is re-branding himself and at such, he no longer raps but sings! That’s a T-pain move right there.  Just this week, the song has been on Ghetto Radio and 1fm top 6@6 a couple of times.

If you’ve not heard it yet, here’s your chance. Don’t forget to vote it on #Ghetto Radio Countdown & One Fms #top6@6

Check out his new song;{youtube}ZHibZWuYL4g{/youtube}

Larry Madowo Does The Ice Bucket Challenge (Video)

The Ice Bucket Challenge was initiated to raise money for research and treatment on ALS and spread awareness of the neuro-degenerative disease.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS OR Lou Gehrig’s affects nerve cells in two of the most important parts of the human body; the brain and the spinal cord.

This disease makes breathing on your own, swallowing speaking and moving difficult or impossible. So far the ALS association has managed to gather over 9 4 million dollars that is Kshs 8,314,300,000

Bill Gates, 50 Cents and Oprah have all been involved in the campaign and Susan Wong, Fareed Khimani and Kalekye Mumo have also joined them in the campaign.

Larry Madowo has also accepted the challenge and has even donated 50,000 Kenya shillings to the Beyond Zero Campaign because it is more applicable in Kenya.

{youtube}qlcPDPUfURc{/youtube}

However donating money to another organization except the ALS association using the ice bucket challenge” could become impossible in the future. This is because ALS association is looking to trademark the phrases “ice bucket challenge” and “ALS ice bucket challenge.”

MCSK, KAMP, PRISK Partner for a Music Licensing Platform that provides Transparency

MCSK, KAMP, PRISK have partnered to develop a music licensing platform that will enable artists and other music industry players to monitor the sales and broadcasting revenue earned through different companies selling music. The platform named NgomaLicense has been in development over the last several months following an agreement signed by the three collecting organizations. This is truly great news because it means finally the music industry has created the much needed transparency where every artists can see what each PRS/Content provider is selling in realtime. At the same time, artists can view the money they are earning from radio and tv play of their music. The platform does not leave internet downloads and streaming out either. The new joint initiative by the three bodies has been named Digital Rights Management.

The platform is already accessible online at www.ngomalicense.com and artists, producers can register. The official start off will be September 1st 2014. The platform will be free for all artists who are members of the 3 CMOs.

Some key pointers.

NgomaLicense is a platform that enables the sale and distribution of music across different mobile networks worldwide while the owner of the music is able to view real-time sales statistics from their computer. The platform creates a transparency by making it possible for Artist, Producer, Record Label, CMO and the PRS to view their individual sales and revenue percentages so that everyone has a report.

For ARTISTS – No more guess work or worries about what song is selling where. From a central point, you can view your sales by ANY PRS that is selling your music. You are able to see how much the song was sold for and what percentages are taken by who.

For a PRS (Licensees) – The NgomaLicense platform comes with songs already loaded and ready for sale so the PRS does not need to worry about content negotiation, licensing etc. Even upload of content is not a headache for the PRS. Just get a shortcode and start selling. We are working with any PRS or VAS locally and internationally.

For RECORD LABELS – use this platform to reach newer markets for distributing your content as you view sales for all your artists from a central system.

For CMOs – The NgomaLicense platform is integrated to work with KAMP,PRISK and MCSK for the purpose of reporting royalty revenues for all rights holders in a song. The CMOs are able to get reports from the system.

For TELCOS (mobile operators) – Licensing, reporting and billing for content easily handled! The NgomaLicense platform is integrated with shortcode and mobile money billing. The platform also enables any PRS to access all the content hence faster go to market – therefore more revenue for operators as well.

From Nigeria to Ghana, From Cape Town to Nairobi and from Botsawana to Johannesburg one message is clear “Black is not a colour. Black is an attitude. It’s a mindset; it’s a way of life. Black represents the best of Africa.”

These is the mantra in Guinness’ new campaign #MadeofBlack that seeks to celebrate the fact that black is indeed beautiful. Ajuma Nasenyana a world renowned model is part of this campaign that also includes stylist Annabel Onyango and rapper Octopizzo.

Is Octopizzo Working Something Out With Kanye West? Check Out Here

Kibera’s finest export is surely taking the world by storm, having recently jetted in the country from his month long Europe Trip, it has now come to public attention of what the rapper was really up to.

Is he really working with Kanye West? Well if the recent Guinness Africa advertisement is anything to good by, then I would say they did but not quite literally. You see the song in the advertisement was Kanye’s and Octopizzo only featured in the video; Kanye was not in that video though. So what do you call that? Personally I could not find the appropriate term to describe that.

That aside, the new Guinness ad is out and our boy Octopizzo was priviledged to be in the video along side some continental heavy weights. The ad celebrates ‘Black’, not the colour but the African people; it features people from across the continent embracing the beautiful people of this continent.

Ebola May Not be a Menace in Kenya; But This Sure is The Looming Epidemic

The rise in demand for the white gold has spell doom in Kenya’s wildlife and one American photojournalist is about to release a documentary highlighting the havoc caused as a result of poaching.

Kate Brooks has always been on the forefront covering conflict in the Middle East but the recent surge in killing of elephants and rhinoceros for their tusks and horns has made the American photojournalist to tilt the lens of her camera and focus on this bloody killings. Poaching has intensified in Kenya owing to the fact that the price of ivory has skyrocketed to dwarf the market value of cocaine and gold.

Kate Brooks will be unveiling her documentary- The Last Animals to exposes the complexities of the poaching epidemic and to join war to stop all those syndicates involved in the killing of animals. Her campaign is among others like Hands Off Our Elephants which is an initiative to stop the poaching of elephants.

Lillian Muli, Janet Mbugua, Beatrice Marshall and Esther Arunga Back in the Day (Photo)

I think just about every major Kenyan TV station has had its glory days.

One of those days that you are the go-to station for all interesting news and TV shows.KBC had its glory days before KTN came in and stole the show. Then NTV came and ruled the roost for a while before Citizen toppled it over. The reason that all these stations enjoyed such a great run was because they had the most excellent TV presenters. The likes of Lillian Muli, Beatrice Marshall, Janet Mbugua, Michael Oyier and Esther Arunga before she fell of the grid.

I came across a photo of KTN during what I call it’s ‘hey days’

Behind The Scene Photos Of ‘Jalang’o With The Money’

It’s been a while since we had a Kenyan TV show that specifically deals with dishing out some money.

I think the last shows that I watched people dish out money was ‘Omo-Pick-A-Box’ and the incredibly dull ‘Kenya Charity Sweepstake’. The theme song to ‘Kenya Charity Sweepstake’ song still rings is my head and the sound that the balls made while being turned around in that ‘big drum’ is something that will live in my head till the final nail hits my coffin.

Omo-Pick-A-Box was fun though, deciding whether to take the money of the box was certainly an engrossing activity back in the day.

Anyhow, KTN aims to bring back the good old days of money giving (yaay!)with ‘Jalang’o with a money’. This is their latest reality show after Are You My Type and Jaza Mistari.

Citizen TV’s Janet Mbugua Towers over Shix Kapyenga in an Adorable Photo of the Two

Janet Mbugua and Shix Kapyenga looked nothing short of adorable as they posed for a photo after Shix popped into the Citizen TV’s studio.

Janet is familiar to many as the ‘Monday Special host’ and Shix is known for her sterling portrayal of ghetto-fabulous Tasha on NTV’s Beba Beba. You may have also heard her on Hot 96 or watched her convincing portrayal of an innocent girl on the second season of Shuga before she swapped the innocent role for a prostitute role in ‘Nairobi Half life’. As you can tell, Shix is a very versatile actress as she has played a wide range of roles flawlessly.

Enough of the banter, here is Janet and Shix. Janet looks like that caring big sister in this photo, how cute are the two?

This is Why “State House” is Trending on Twitter

The house on the hill is the official residence of Kenyan’s most powerful man and by logic it is probably one of the most protected area in the country; even so one instance has made Kenyans on twitter talk about the presidential residence.

If you still have no clue of what I am talking about, this is what is transpiring; a luxury BMW belonging to State House has been stolen by unknown gang. The thing is that the car was not in State House at the time of the incident, the driver of the car is said to have been carjacked in Ruai area. Nonetheless, Kenyans cannot still come to terms as to how a car belonging to State House can just disappear like that; personally I thought such cars are usually armored and they do have sophisticated tracking system. Does this incident expose blind spot in the president’s security detail?

Kenyan on twitter are expressing their frustrations concerning this occurrence and some are turning the whole mystery into a humour. For instance someone has posted a mock image of the State House’s lost BMW on OLX offering it for sale. Let us hope our detectives will be able to recover the German made machine and return it to State House.

Rapper Kenrazy Ultimately Confesses to Being a Con Artist (Video)

The truth shall set you free, heeding to this phrase; GRAND PA’s hottest export Kenrazy has decided to open up about himself in an exclusive video he has dropped.

I was also surprised too by Kenrazy’s confession but no doubt I love it anyway. After dropping the much famed Hivo Ndio Kunaendanga, rapper Kenrazy has released yet another hit dubbed Mbilikimo Mkora which in my simple English literally means a rogue midget. Kenrazy admits he is ‘mbilikimo mkora’ and makes his confession into great musical beat that you will surely need to hear.

He has always been a great lyricist and his understanding of those rhyming word make his new song such a club hit. GRAND PA is known for their quality work and Kenrazy’s new video is by all means a remarkable production. If you sure love their work; you have got a thousand reasons to watch Kenrazy’s new video. ‘Crossing the border’ is a musical term that is used to refer to a music that has a wider reach beyond the country of origin to which the musician who sang the song resides. It is usually a big hustle for Kenyan musician to cross the border with their music given the fact that South African and Nigerian music have long dominated the continental music arena.

Kenyan artistes are actually playing the second fiddle to South African and Nigerian musician even in their own back yard. Artistes like Davido,Mafikizolo, Ice Prince among others have such a big following in the country than some of the Kenyan musicians themselves. The question many ask is “Where or when did the rain start beating us?” Ten years ago we never heard of Nigerian music having such a big impact in Kenya; why could the renaissance that happened in Nigeria also happen in Kenya?

Kenyan music I would say tends to lack originality; sometimes artistes sing with Nigerian pidgin, others with Jamaican ascent while other purely tends to lean on the American style of music. The country’s music has no identity; it is hard to hear a Kenyan musician sing at an international stage then quickly identify him/her as is a Kenyan. This is so contrary of Nigerian and South Africans. Is the idea of trying to emulate other countrys’ style of music the root cause of Kenyan music not dominating the international airwaves?

Even so, a few Kenyan artistes can still give the continental power houses a run for their money; their music is not only appealing to the diverse African market but also penetrating the world as well. During his visit to Coke Studio Kenya, Nigerian artiste flavour revealed that he would love to do collaboration with singer Nameless, Wyre and of cause the song bird Victoria Kimani. Flavour disclosed his love for Nameless’ music and further admitted that at some point he thought Nameless was a Jamaican artiste. This is a good indication for the good job that some of the Kenyans are actually doing and also establishing the country’s name on the international stage.

The above article is purely my opinion; i am constitutionally entitled to one so no hard feelings.

‘I Thought Nameless Was Jamaican’ Top Nigerian Musician Confesses

Despite the countless number of fresh not forgetting talented faces that seem to crop up every day, Nameless has managed to stay relevant in the entertainment game.

He may not release as many hits as some other artistes but when Nameless releases a hit you can be sure it will be a success.

The prosperous ‘Butterfly’ singer has enjoyed collaborations with some of the best talents around, such as Habida , Kidum and Mr. Lenny. It seems that Nameless is not only big here but also big in Nigeria.Flavor recently confessed that he would like a collabo with Nameless whom he initially thought was Jamaican because he loves his music. He also said that he would also love to collaborate with Wyre and Victoria Kimani whom he alleges has a  ‘sweet and sexy voice’

Cabu Gah Diaries: Hundreds of Thousands of Youtube views. And then what???

Ratchet videos and thousands of Youtube views. Is the Justin Bieber effect possible in Kenya???

Lately,Kenyan artists, led by some of the best in the game, Sauti Sol, have been churning out some of the seediest, shadiest and even shoddiest music videos ever to assault our eyes.

And while the likes of Sauti Sol do actually have some truly hypnotic vocals and genuinely amazing music, others songs have been downright revolting. And painful to the ear.

Well, that aside. Its about the videos here.

In what seems like a fad, there is a general consensus that the raunchier the video, the quicker the fame and the higher the number of Youtube views. Well, its true. But then again, what next??

Currently,One of the most watched Youtube music video from Kenya-POMBE BHANGI-is that of a Kenyan rapper with not much of a rapping skill in the first place, anyway. His name is,Rajayjay. And, Yes,You read that right. I guess if You have the confidence to baptize Yourself Rajayjay, then there very little You aren’t ready to do. Or overdo.

rayyy.jpg

As we speak, that video currently stands at 110,000 views after a measly 7 days. Ok, let’s take a breather. And repeat that again, 110,000 views. Ok, Good.

And that other one, the one involving some of the most crass display of ass and buttcracks and unpalatable skin and fat. Blaqy’s Money Maker. If you haven’t watched it, Good. Don’t watch. No need to complicate your life.

Blaqy’s clip is currently standing at 73,000 views. After less than a month. Still a whooping number, going by Kenya’s status.

And then the Sauti Sol number, NISHIKE. Not crappy. Or trashy. But still steamy. And seriously raunchy. You can clearly see the “Boys” walking around bare-chested,belting out their legendary tunes and cradling a bevy of skimpily-clad video vixens. And You can also see ass. And abs. And a steamy bedroom setting. And that video?? Well,it lapped up close to 500,000 views within a freaking month. Big deal.

And we can close up with the Sanaipei Tande clip for her absolutely seductive jam,MFALME WA MAPENZI. It stands at 390,000 views as we speak. Whoa. And that’s from a girl who had stopped being relevant 66 Years ago. Good for her.

Well, after all those views, then what?? Where does Blaqy go from here??? Where does Rajayjay go?? What does he do next??? How does he push forward his brand??? And actually become a big shot??

Unfortunately,in this country,GOING VIRAL MEANS NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING.

Not unless this is U.S.A, and You are Justin Bieber. Or Michelle Phan. Or Iggy Azaleia. Or Austin Mahone. All of whom BLEW UP after going viral on Youtube.

In Kenya going viral is as good as taking a poop outside Harambee House. You will cause a scene, alright. And attract viewers, true. But that’s that. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Going viral in Kenya DOES NOT NECESSARILY TRANSLATE to OFFICIAL fame and power and fortunes.

No big label will come knocking on Your doors ready to sign You. No music scout will swoosh down at your door ready to transform your life. No one will give you any damn recording deal. No promoter will stumble over themselves rushing to book you. Or manager scrambling to represent You. NO. FORGET IT.

GO VIRAL. THEN GO HOME.

Not unless You are an already established brand like Sauti Sol,then, well, churning out super-raunchy videos may seem like the way to go. But the question will always remain: GO WHERE???

After the videos rack up all those hundreds of thousands of views, simply because they shocked us or surprised us or simply outraged us, DOES THAT translate to money in the bank?? Or the beginning of a long-term music career?? Hardly.

But if Kenya were like any other developed country, the likes of Rajayjay and Blaqy and any other ‘shock-jock’ performer would be touring the country like right now.

Playing sold out shows and getting endorsements and getting signed to labels and making big bucks and being added to the Safaricom Live tour repertoires. But that is NEVER happening. Not today. Or tomorrow.

But the minute Justin Bieber went viral on Youtube,His life changed the following day. Same case to Korean sensation Psy. Same case to Lana Del Rey,Macklemore,Greyson Chance,Gotye or Katy Perry.

bb.jpg

The minute they went viral,THE WORLD OF MUSIC STOPPED AT THEIR DOORSTEPS. They were bombarded with crazy offers and deals and invitations and suggestions from tens of Music Industry honchos. All because of going viral on Youtube. And racking up thousands, nay, millions of views for their underground music.

But even with a million Youtube views for Blaqy, for instance, chances are that he may still remain underground for a beautiful, long time to come.

Take it or leave  it.

Around here,the GAME IS DIFFERENT.

You can shock audiences with the most outrageous, lascivious, erotic, slutty or ratchet music video. But after the hundreds of thousands of views, nothing will change. NOTHING.

You will still wake up and struggle hard like you used to do a month earlier. Because, THIS IS KENYA.

And after we are shocked by you, WE DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.

Maybe unknown artists need a different strategy. Or Kenya’s Music gurus should start paying serious attention to these artists with hundreds of thousands of Youtube subscribers. And views.

In the meantime,Keep them ratchet videos coming. Lets see how that works out for You.

NTV’s Larry Madowo Blasts Standard Chartered Bank for Poor Service

Talk about Incompetence in service delivery then probably most of you will air their frustrations regarding that annoying situation you have encountered in your day to day undertakings.

Let us just put the emphasis on banks for now; what is that one thing that you really hate about banks? For me it definitely will be the long queues, I mean it just sucks to be in a bank for a longer time than you ever anticipated. Well I might not be the only one who gets rumbles in my stomach when I experience that annoying situation; NTV’s Larry Madowo too could not digest the service being offered by StanChart bank Moi Avenue branch.

According to Larry, the bank is not only disorganized, crowded, slow at issuing chip cards; the stuff too has the attitude of a government office. Not my words, I mean that mentality of not showing concern for esteem customers is the one which has sank many giant cooperate bodies before. Whatever Larry’s experience was, he sure was an angry man; so much pissed with StanChart bank Moi Avenue.

Larry Madowo To Get Wet On Tv…But For A Good Cause

Challenge accepted!

NTV’s Larry Madowo has finally agreed to the “Ice Bucket Challenge.” 7 days later after being challenged by Nailab’s Sam Gichuru. But there is a catch; he will do it not for ALS but for a Kenyan charity. Something which I think makes sense since ALS is not as common in Kenya as other diseases.

I’ll do the ice bucket challenge for a Kenyan charity. Suggestions for a great cause @theTrendLive & I can support? #IceBucketChallengeKE

The Ice bucket challenge was started to spread ALS awareness and raise money for research and patient services for people afflicted ALS.Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease which causes difficulty in speaking, swallowing, breathing and causes muscle spasms.
