IS KENYA GOING THE GOSPEL WAY

We see hot videos daily and this show,s us how our industry is rising. Most of our clubs play mostly

Kenyan music because of the quality and a bigger fun base.

What makes me wonder is we see most gospel videos than circular ones.you will here Daddy,s Owen song in a club and if its not a club its a matatu. We see gospel music programmes have big followers regardless of age or gender.

Programmes like The Beat, Rush live, straight up which used to air circular music have changed in a way thus You will find Juliani,s song or Allan Aron with acorino swag. Artist are shifting to gospel music and still make it big. We see this gospel artist make money to an extend they drive big cars from their music earnings.

Gospel artist have performances every weekend of which it wasn’t a trend before. They even get giggs to perform at political rallies, clubs and corporate functions which mostly was reserved for circular artist.

Groove party and Totally sold out always have huge attendances than our clubs do. The number of gospel djs is on the rise and they perform in more functions than their counterparts in circular music.

If this trend will go on like this then gospel will be Kenyans in thing or we say gospel swag. Our churches are full with young lads because of this songs. If artist have managed to take the youths back to church then its a gospel revolution.

THE LYRICAL RAP QUEEN IS COMING BACK

She was brought up in Norway but still she knows her roots. She always sing positive stuff about Kenya and do collabos with Kenyan artist. She`s the latest Kenyan who has done a big collabo with Mohombi and the song is ‘hula hoop’and its rocking.

Stella Mwangi aka STL is the name and she`s coming back to Kenya for a period of three months. She`s expected to arrive in 12th February this year. Her mission is to record new songs with East African musicians and also finalise her songs project done with AY and Navio.

We hope to see her on stage after the experience she got during euro vision competition where she represented Norway and sure she does rock. She has changed her style of singing but still she hers great followers.

Coming To A Screen Near You!

With a star studded cast this movie looks like another trend setter!

Film is steadily growing in Kenya, and more and more hot shot filmmakers and investors are coming to the country to do movies. Movies are the next frontier in Kenyan entertainment!

Afraid of losing the woman of his dreams, a young man with a criminal record pretends to own a profitable market stall. His honest attempts to turn his lies into reality fail, due to the ubiquitous local corruption. Wearing a stolen military uniform, he manages to succeed in defending his rights and his happiness.

The world wide premiere will take place at the PAN AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL. on Friday, February 10, 2012 Los Angeles, USA.

This is one movie I’m definitely be looking forward to!

DJ Joe Mfalme All Set For Vegas

He is your girl’s favourite DJ, DJ Joe Mfalme and undoubtedly one of the greatest on the decks that Kenya has to offer.

Fresh after launching his new website, it seems it’s business as usual for this on-the-decks royalty. This Thursday February 2nd, will see him do his speciality at the Ace Thursdays edition, Skylux Lounge.

Over the weekend, ‘King of the Decks’ will be going down in a major way at Club Volar with DJ Joe Mfalme spinning nothing but the best.

The Cypher Bug Bites!

There is a new trend in town! Cyphers.

Defined in hip hop as A state of mind where thoughts and actions flow from your mind rather than being instrumented. This new style of discovering new talent is growing in popularity. Just go into YouTube and type in cipher you’ll be amazed at the number of people who do it. Popularized by BET hip-hop ciphers have been used for long to gauge a rappers skills when it comes to rapping. Also known as freestyling it is an integral part of hip-hop culture together with beatboxing, deejaying and breakdancing.

Well, right here in Nairobi, freestylers are popping up everywhere and are now taking the battles online. The past weeks have seen releases from CampMulla, Octopizzo and a bevy of new rappers give it a go. There have been releases from 254kenya and now 16bars. It seems productions houses are trying to cash in on this new craze. Octopizzo who I cannot stress enough, is at his best form right now, delivers a performance that….well you just have to see for yourself!

Here is the latest hiphop cypher with Dj Joe Mfalme on the decks!

CONTRACT TERMINATED

There is word out there that South Sudan rapper K-Denk has left Grandpa Records after a

disagreement with the management. He had signed a two years contract with the label before it was terminated.

He first came to the limelight when he represented his country in TP4 and brought the hip hop swag to the show. He has done a couple of songs like ‘am here’featuring Sanaipei Tande which was a heat.

Sources say that Grandpa management will terminate artist contracts if they don’t adhere to the stipulated agreement and that they have signed a new upcoming artist by the name TLMOH who’s single will be by end of February

BLANKETS AND WINE MARCH EDITION

After an extremely successful year that saw the likes of the electro-phenomenon that is Just a Band, Sauti Sol, Eric Wainaina and the Villagers Band perform alongside other continental greats such as Oliver Mtukudzi and Mafikizolo, Blankets and Wine is coming back with even greater promise this year.

blankets

The last edition of Blankets and Wine culminated on the 18th of December 2011 at the Mamba Village, with memorable performances from Sage, Neema and Eric Wainaina alongside a welcome guest appearance from the South African band, Liquid Deep.

It is great news that our very own homegrown artistes get the chance to perform alongside other great performers from around the continent and we feel this will contribute to the growth of the industry in Kenya

Cecile coming to Kenya… again

It seems that dance hall artiste Cecile just can’t have enough of Kenya.

Although not confirmed, Cecile might be making yet another tour to our beautiful country but this time not for music.

She might just have been touched, just like the rest of the foreign artistes that visit Kenya, by the life we live, away from the beaches and the ‘summer time’ lifestyle that is advertised on the screens. She will be coming for a charity project that might also be including huge corparate names and may take quite some time.

FORCES TO RECKON WITH!

At the rate we are receiving new hip hop music, It seems 2012 is the year we have all been waiting for! Kayvo of Korce premiers new music…

Word play that’s what Dying Breed is all about. At his lyrical best and with an attitude to match, Kayvos a force to reckon with. Sample this; ‘ /fast life with slow money is senseless/kama ni madame me hupenda wa number 8 figure/ ‘

Kayvo who we have previously featured on collaborations with Octopizzo is on a mission to bring hip-hop back from slumber! Bizbill on his part has made his mark. The track is delivered so simply it sounds like the two don’t even try. I dare call It a classic.

HOTTER AND BETTER

He shocked the air waves when his first single was out and he was accepted in the music industry. He came with his own flow

that became his signature tune.If you hear him singing u`ll definitely know its him.

His new single is out and its hot. ‘KURA BURNDEM’is da title, the artist is non other than Kenrazy himself and recorded at Grand pas studio. In this song he flows better than before and his lyrics are ontop and this shows growth in him. Every one thought that after changing his record label from Jomino to Grand pa, that was the end of him, but it wasn’t coz this guy got talent and destined for bigger things.

This new song has got message, not only to the youth but to everyone. He tries to bring out what happens in our daily life and the mistakes we should avoid making. He brings out clearly how our government neglects its citizens, how we get infected with HIV coz of our ignorance and bad friends. This is positive music and  congrats to Kenrazy for this. His taken music to another level. Check out ‘Kura burndem’ lyrics here. Check and rate this song.

WHERE TO LIVE THE GOOD LIFE

How do you gauge your living the good life? The Nairobi high life? Well first, you could buy a suit and a hat then second, you could buy tickets to attend the Fashion High Tea Event on 11th February.  Oh yeah and a ticket is 4000!

By the way this as witnessed in the previous one last year, this event is a must go for the top crème of Nairobi, so don’t be shocked if it sells out! Dress code; big hats for the ladies and fancy suits for men.

Brought to you by Nairobi VIP and Sponsored by Schweppes Novida ‘Live The Good Life’, Zen gardens is definitely the place to be on 11th February.

Ras Nayre for Bob Marley birthday

Ras Nayre landed in Luanda, Angola yesterday, already set for performing at the Bob Marley birthday celebrations. Luanda usualy holds these music shows from 2-4th February to celebrate the Reggae legend every

year considering that most of its population are reggea fans.

This will be Bob Marley’s 67th in absenture but this will never stop us from celebrating his life and music.

Ras Nayre went to Luanda with his band, made of six members and will be performing alongside The Namibian Rasta King among other reggea household names. This three-day show will be one to be remembered.

Making Holy Noise for the Big One

Gospel music is hot right now keeps taking it up a notch. Here is yet another new hot track coming off the gospel ministry.

It’s not news that that gospel is what’s hot right now but whats news is the amount of creativity coming up in the songs and videos.

HolyDave jumps on this track and gives it the ‘HD’ swag, Ni Msoh (he’s big) done by the duo Moji-shortbabaa & Didi is accompanied by an awesome video that left me smiling. The first verse with its simple and catchy punch lines is my highlight of the song not forgetting of course HolyDave verse.

The song is produced by one Mgangez , while the video by Enos Olik

This is a definite club banger. And if you are more about the lyrics than the beats the message is loud and clear, God is all powerful therefore no problem is bigger than Him coz, Ni Msoh,! here are the lyrics

Here is the video of the month

It is finally the end of NJAAnuary. I know for sure that everyone is happy we are done with this  month. This calls for the most liked video awards here at Ghafla.

They free styled their heads off and they enjoyed every moment of it. Octopizzo, Young Kass, and Timmy Tim did what they do best in this first of three hot Cyphers. Personally, this is the best of the three. Big up to Octo for maintaining his Swahili (not that the others were’nt good-they actually killed it).

Camp Mulla taking Kenya to the next level is now evident. They will fit in anywhere in the Hip Hop world with that swagger and camouflaged English. Proud of them we are.

Watch this video and you’ll know why it belongs where it is now.

THE CHOKOZA QUEEN IS AT IT AGAIN

We new that this chick was the next big thing in music industry after she was signed at Ogopa djs and true to that she is.She did drop hot stuff that made her become a house hold  name on radio and television

L Last year she won the best female artist at chaguo la tineez awards in a hotly contested category with the likes of Wahu,Amani,Marya and Size 8.

Her and Marya came with chokoza and true it was a club banger, you could mistake the song with our national anthem because almost every one new the lyrics of the song. You couldn`t miss this song on radio,TV or in our clubs.

Avril whose also known as the Chokoza queen is at it again, this time with a fresh love song titled ”Mimi na wewe”.She will be launching this new single today at hotel skylux,Westlands  from 7pm,i bet its a must attend. We know her thus expect this single to be even hotter than chokoza.Lets watch the space as she debuts her new single.

Bamzigi:She’s a murderer

We told you we would hook you up with

Bamzigi’s latest song and now, here it is. Titled ‘murderer’, this is another club banger. It’s about a psychotic mama and I hope that Bamzi isn’t singing from experience.

‘Murderer’ was produced by Wawesh and is part of the ‘Shades A/V Mizuka’ album set for release this year.

Listen to this mzuka music below while we wait for the official video.

Kenya for Manchester United game

Even though we may not qualify to play in the big-time games, we will show up anyway…

musically that is.

A Kenyan choir, The Nairobi Girls Chorale has been invited to Old Traford to perform in a Manchester United game during half time. The game will be in April and they are set to live on the 24th of that month.

The group consisits of youthful ladies who came together for the love of music, from different schools and backrounds. The Man-U admin came to know about them through videos of their exprience on the Kiss TV reality show, Kwaya, which were uploaded by their director. The Nairobi Girls Chorale are finalists in the show. Watch the show every Sunday at 8PM and vote for them.

Remember Mzizi Mbaya from Kiss TV?…Well, he just dropped his album.

We all know him from Kiss TV back when he presented news through his acquired ‘patwaa’ accent (the Jamaican accent). We loved his shows and now here’s more reason to love and support this guy.

Mzizi Mbaya has completed his album ‘Judgement Day’ which he recorded at the Headbangers International Studios. As Kimya says, it is rumoured to be the best Reggae Album ever done by a Kenyan. Some of the songs featured in the album include ‘corruption’, ‘thanks and praise, and ‘ghetto yout’ among other.

Like most reggae artistes, Mzizi Mbaya has been through hardships that hindered his music before he met up with Headbangers International at their talent search. He was the stone that the builder refused, he says. From a long way, indeed struggle pays.

Check this out.

The most liked music video of the week…..[drumrolls]….

It’s ‘Furahi-day’ yet again and everybody’s psyched up for the weakened full of hype. But first ask yourself, is it advisable to head out there without

knowing which song is topping most people’s play list? You have to be prepared.

‘Wagenge’ wamewakilisha tena. Q-Tasi and Mejja are back with the track ‘Vunja shingo’ courtesy of Beat ya clemo. These hilarious guys made us laugh with their last single, ‘tuko base’ which talked about guys hanging around at a joint ‘wakichana veve‘. Now they are back, and this time they are on the next door ‘msupa’ case. Major, with his usual funny theatrical acts, killing us comically as expected (I’ve always thought this guy should also consider acting as a second career).

Well, now you have it, the most liked video on Youtube this week. Watch it below right now and judge for yourself.

Swagg or ‘Dump’

I remember back in the days when sagging was a part of my swagg… yeah, that’s right, I got swagg. Though some still love this style, do they really know where it originated from?

Many believe that sagging was invented in the

prisons. As inmates arrived, their belts were confiscated (they are considered weapons-isn’t everything in there a weapon?), therefore forcing the pants to hang low on the waist. This later became a trend and the guys continued ‘hanging’ around the streets with the same dress code even after being released.

In these times, Hip Hop adopted this dress code and turned it into the now acknowledged ‘swagg’.

What do you think about this swagg?

Patricia Kihoro, “I’m not dating Porgie”

So many scandalous websites on the net these days. It’s starting to get hard to differenciate between the real and the fake.

Recently,

a scandalous website posted inaccurate news about former TPF contestant Patricia Kihoro and Code Red’s manager, Porgie being an item. The two say that they honestly don’t know where the website got that idea from but it’s clearly lack of content.

Patricia stated that she and Porgie are just friends and that she isn’t seeing anyone at the moment.

I’d suggest you stick to Ghafla! news for the real stuff.

Former member of Kenyanna beefs on Octopizzo

We at Ghafla! are die hard fans of Octopizzo, so you can imagine how disturbed we were when we got this news. After a series of hits from Octo,

I still don’t understand how and why anyone would diss his style.

Pulse reported that former Kenyanna member, Ngozi Nyeusi believes that there are no rappers in kenya except himself and the guys in Tanzania like Professor J who deserve respect in this genre. He went further to say, as reported, that Octopizzo is a ‘struggling rapper’ and is just struggling to rap. Really? I don’t share that opinion at all.

I’m assuming he hasn’t heard the likes of Kitu Sewer, Wenyeji, Washamba Wenza just to mention afew. This is really insulting to our Hiphop community.

Homeboyz Radio changes frequency

In the quest to be clearer and more vast through out Kenya, Homeboyz radio has switched up to

91.1FM. Before, some parts of the country could not get reception, and some that did, didn’t get it clearly. But now all that’s changed with the new frequency.

This top urban Station is set for greater heights this 2012, as Alph Rabber declares.

Rabbit to perform in Kiserian

Rapper Rabbit, known mostly for his song ‘jam na kam’ is scheduled to perform in Olonana, Corner Baridi in kiserian tomorrow.

The rapper,

who is lyrically established as his songs portray, will be performing with his guitarist and vocalist from afternoon till evening.

Entrance for the event will be Sh.1000, catering for food and drinks for the fans.

Prepare for Grandpa Night

Drop every plan you have for tommorow night,

for Secret’s Lounge will be hosting the ‘Grandpa Night’ which will compose of a series of performances from Kenyan artistes presented by Dj Hassan and Grandpa Records.

The main event will be the launch of Ngangalito and Amileena’s ‘Nisamehe’ video.

Entry goes for Ksh.200.

Raev for Gospel fans

Gospel fans don’t do much of clubing for obvious reasons, which is realy good, but all that is about to change. Dj Sadic will be hosting,

this Friday and every other last Friday of every month, an all night party dubbed ‘Club 3:16’.

The first of these great gospel nights is tonight at the Charter Hall from 8pm to 6am. This is to give the faithfull a chance to have a clubbing experience and hang out with their pals and chat while dancing to performances from various gospel artistes.

This is a first, so be sure to be there.

Muki Garang releases album

Muki Garang has finally released his much anticipated album titled ‘A Dollar A Day’. The album was part of the

exchange programme between South Africa’s Platinum Africa Youth Tourism NGO and our Maisha Bora NGO which involved some community work.

Garang featured various African artistes in the album from all over Africa including Botswana and Nigeria just to name a few. Sources say that the songs are getting upto 500 hits a week which shows that there’s quite a good reception.

Crazy music with Muliro Gardens’ clips

Hahaha, I would say these guys are clowns but some may take that as an insult. Truth is, this is some really funny song and video to it. The Shell b Boys Band did this song titled ‘Mama Pima’ with funny acsent and lyrics,

talking about how they love drinking ‘cham’ saying, “Mama Pima, nimekuwa nikikupima… ata ukizima taa, mi nitawasha”.

To add to this hillarious music, is the infamous Muliro Gardens’ explicit pictures. Hehehe, how did these Muliro guys get the guts to do what they used to do in the open like that. You just goota love this song.

Watch the video below.

Emmanuel Jal: Starving for a good cause

I love his energy. Kind of reminds me of Juliani on stage. Emmanuel Jal and his friends have now gone months eating only a meal a day. This is all in the project to raise money to help the hungry and build a school in Sudan. He is now on the 235th day since he started and still going strong.

He says that when he first started this project,

he thought that it would take him only a month to raise the 300,000 dollars that he is aiming for because he is famous, but is now suprised to have gone for this long, having made only 130,000 dollars. Despite this, he refuses to see it as a set-back but a challenge. He is still going strong.

To contribute to his cause, you can make your donations at www.gua-africa.org. Help fight all the negative that Africa is facing.

Guess which track is No.1 on the Reverbnation National Charts

Most have loved it, and some have criticised it. Eather way, it doesn’t realy matter because it’s obvious that the majority are enjoying it. It is the

remix to the hit song ‘HAHE’ by Just a Band.

I read on twitter some cat twitting that Nonini messed up the song. Well, what can you say now? In your face! I am taking this kind of personal because I am a huge Nonini fan and I think… no, I KNOW Nonini he did a good job on that song and I can’t wait for the video.

Genge should be fused with each and every other genre of Kenyan music there is, for we are Wagenge.

If the one thing that’s holding

If the one thing that’s holding you back from adopting Google Glass and joining the wearable computing market is the lack of trendy designs, you’re in luck. Google is teaming up with The Luxottica Group, a company that specializes in luxury and sports eyewear. While you may not have heard of Luxottica, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with at least one of its brands, which includes Ray Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, Persol, Oliver Peoples, Alain Mikkli, and Arnette.

‘Nisamehe’ to be released on Saturday

The single done by the three former TPF contestants; Ngangalito, Raff and Ameelina will be released this Saturday at the Secrets Lounge. Known for there funny acts and drama at the TPF house,

the three came together to create this sweet love song ‘nisamehe’, that will relate to any person that is struggling to keep their love life together despite haters and groopies(for the celebrities) who are always trying to wreck it.

They recorded the song at Grandpa Records and shot the video later. The lyrics can be found at our Ghafla!Lyrics site. The song will be featured in Ngangalito’s second album.

Another Hot Cypher Out

Our new generation rappers have done it yet again. The cyphers are pilling up by the month and the talent is getting better by the day.

This time,

introducing to you R.A.W.W Cypher, Octopizzo comes out with a crew of new guys that are obviously meant to be heard. Rizzla, Virus, Wes Prodigy and Marcus WIII, freestyle back-to-back, passing the mic after each turn with Octopizzo taking the last round. With old instrumentals, this is a hot oldskool freestyle mix.

The NTV Beat version has not been realesed yet, but Ghafla! got you. Here is the internet version.

The top rated funny-clip show in Kenya

You can’t watch it without laughing. Yes, it’s realy that funny. Mostly centred on the political aspects of Kenya,

The XYZ has won the hearts of many.

knowing exactly where the fun is in politics, they go straight for it, without holding back. I wonder what the politicians say when they see their look-a-like puppets on screens, saying the most ironical things in the most humerous ways.

Go to Youtube Kenya and the XYZ Show will be among the videos suggested for you automaticaly. With the ‘Kungfu fighting remix’ and politicians singing their hearts out like ‘The Raila version of Kigeugeu’, this show maintains as the funniest clips.

Want to see how the satirist behind this marvelous show does it, watch the clip below.

Get ready for the ‘Fresh all day’ Camp Mulla video

We are already crazy about the song, Djs are going mad over it, and the Mulla crew is getting more famous and bigger because of it, and yet it’s just one of their many hits.

All about their swagga,

Camp Mulla shows that they are bringing it to us in this song, and it will definately stick. As I watched the Behind-the-scenes video for the shoot of the soon to be released video, I couldn’t help but notice the abundance of realy cool swagg among the youths in the video. Even CMB Prezzo was present, fresh as usual.

These guys are doing it big. I just hope the rest of our artistes can handle their fire, and remember, they are just getting started.

Watch this Behind-the-scenes clip of the shoot.

To the dissapointed Groove Party fans comes good news

The Groove party for the new year’s eve was much anticipated. But just like the mavado concert, things went downhill. Dissapointment after dissapointment, the fans cried. Those that had no other plans were forced to spend the new year’s eve at home. It was either that or back-slide to the wild parties that were filled by the likes of us.

Well,

be in sorrow no more faithful Groove party fans, for I have good news for thee. The Groove party organisers are refunding those that had payed for the advanced tickets. This is indeed a good deed.

Why Octopizzo is not leaving your screens anytime soon
