Controversial Artiste Appeals To A ‘Higher Power’ For Airplay

Upcoming artiste Blaqy Blaq has recently been in the news pleading for the rights of his song,”Show Me”. He has taken shots at musical bigwigs accusing them of exchanging money and sex in return for airplay and recently wrote to the Kenya Film Classification Board, KFCB asking them to overrule their decision of banning TV stations from playing the song ‘show me’

Apparently there has been no reply from the Film Classification Board so he decided to take the matter to a higher power, the Information and Communication, Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i

This is the letter the artiste sent to us:

Earlier this week i submitted a letter to the Kenya Film Classification Board, KFCB challenging their decision to totally restrict my song ‘show me’ on grounds that the content was rather too graphic for family broadcast.

Days on am still waiting on the reply from officials at KFCB having asked them a few questions:
Why have they not restricted, Fundamentals, bend-over, bedroom bully and many
others yet these songs are still doing rounds in the local industry?
And when will the feedback from KFCB be available or are my argument points null and void? Or is this whole issue contempt?

Having done that, I decided to push bars further on the latter, to the Information and Communication, Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i and the Permanent Secretary to look in to the matter as well.
All this is to make sure that local talent and people of this country a fair share of this cake in terms of business opportunities. Foreign commodities have for a long time flooded our market leaving our very own out of business and i believe it’s time the government did something.
I hope they treat this case as an emergency as the entertainment industry needs a complete shake down. The content needs to be well distributed with at least the high band percentage given to the advantage of local creatives.
I cannot sit and watch Kenyans miss on opportunities already available in this industry with income estimates worth millions of Kenyan shillings.
Local content needs support which in turn will create jobs and hence a reduction in unemployment rate that is currently very high.
I feel this will have great impact on this country’s journey towards achieving vision 2030.
The Cabinet Secretary has promised to look into the issue so all we can do is patiently wait

LOL!Kenyans Make Fun Of Maina And Mwalimu King’ang’i(Photo)

Every morning on Classic 105, the ever hilarious Mwalimu King’ang’i and Maina Kageni hook up to entertain Kenyans on their way to school or work.

The breakfast show host is known for addressing relationships issues that couples face and that has made his show so popular that it’s possibly the biggest breakfast show on Kenyan radio.

Maina Kageni Responds Bleakly To Clerics For Calling Him Out

Maina Kageni

Before they address relationships issues that couples face, King’ang’i always gives his listeners something to loosen up and crack them up before they get to discussing serious relationship issues. He calls it “Kasheshe’

King’angi always makes us laugh, but Kenyans found a way of tickling the comedian with this vcd

10 Signs That You Went To A Kenyan Public School

Unless you are among the privileged few that got to attend private schools and got to escape 8-4-4 and the woes of the common mwanachi, the rest of us spend a large part of our lives in public schools.

If you were in a public school I can guarantee that you can relate to one or two of the things that happen in public schools.

1# If your Nursery School had an accent you got an accent too

Accents can be very sexy, French accent, Russian Accent or British accents but not so sexy when you are suffering from a deep Kikuyu or Kao accent.

http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/unhelpful-highschool-teacher-english-teacher-has-worse-accent-than-you.jpg

I went to a school where my teacher taught, me to emphasize the sound “th”.So  a sentence like “The Three thick thieves ran for the thick thicket in Thika Town” would send people into fits of laughter. I emphasized my “Th”until I got to high school and realized that “Th” shouldn’t be emphasized so much. It should be more of a Th as opposed to Th.

I also said “habhazard” for a large part of my life, until someone pointed out it was actually haphazard

2#Meat and bread were rare commodities

These two items were preserved for Sundays or Saturdays or for those lucky enough to be in good schools; they got a slice of bread daily. In  high school we often fought for this rare commodity and people “swung” loaf (Stealing bread from the bowl when no one was looking).Loaf swingers were generally frowned upon and if you were caught “swinging ” loaf your greedy self would be turned into a leper for a week until someone else swings or a “lesbian” “comes out “.

http://wpmedia.news.nationalpost.com/2012/05/tuition-protests.jpg%3Fw%3D620

Scrambling for loaf

Meat was rare; in fact the most common type of meat was the weevils in your Githeri

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9c/Sitophilus.oryzae.7438.jpg

Weevil,more like wee evil

3#You had weird eating habits

You probably devoured the following things, toothpaste, salt, eno, mix (Blueband+Sugar+cocoa) and thought were the best things since sliced bread. You ate because there was food or because you were bored.

http://memecrunch.com/meme/BF05/must-eat-everything/image.png

4#Uniform was public property

Not by choice, but circumstances forced you. Your sexy uniform was probably stolen by a form four, so what do you do? Walk naked? No, you ‘shopped’ for more: Read stole

5#You had a weird way of singing the song “Father Abraham”

6#You had special clothes for special occasions

These were perfectly maintained clothes reserved for visiting days and “funkies”

7#Insyder Magazine was a must-have

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KpTauCrw3bQ/TCDgspIaBYI/AAAAAAAADCc/Uu5grCjJCwg/s400/Insyder.jpg

Back then, Insyder was a Bible especially for high school Kids. You got to know the coolest schools, hottest funkies and hottest high “schoolers”. If you made it to the High school hottest list you instantly turned into a god

8#You had a nickname for most if not all teachers

Trust name the last thing you want is getting a nickname from a teenager. The nicknames were horrible not forgetting demeaning and were used when the teacher was not in the vicinity.

E.g. Mathutha for the bootylicious ones, Friesian for the busty ones, Jezebel for the evil ones among others

We had a teacher or was it a lab technician called KISA (knight in Shining Armor) who many described as Tall Dark and Handsome. He was tall and dark but handsome…nah! I think people were rocking their “thirst goggles”

9#Prefects were evil. Period

http://www.quickmeme.com/img/a1/a1d354b0111eb6a5c8d23f6ae1aef32f0be9630b690750331abb7bda81eb8485.jpg

10#Teachers gave out ridiculous punishment

http://www.in.all.biz/img/in/catalog/116989.jpeg?rrr=1

Most of these punishments were designed to either embarrass you into the next century, torture you into submission while others were just plain hilarious. There was this school where if you stole a mango from the mango tree you had to buy a whole sack of mangoes or if you “rukad fence” you bought a roll of barbed wire

Here is all I have for today folks. Do you feel like I have left out any, feel free to comment below?

Mother-In-Law’s Actress Gets Involved In Illegal Human Organs Trade (Video)

One of the most horrible things that can happen to a mother is waking up to find that her newborn baby has been stolen by a shadowy doctor or a sketchy nurse. It is horrendous when you go to hospital and the doctor decides to harvest your organs and sell them to the black market.

One of these things can happen to you if you are in the hands of Dr. Steve. Dr Steve is a crooked doctor who pawns off his patients babies and organs to fund raise for his father who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Khaligraph Jones: Octopizzo Is The One With A Problem With Me

Yesterday, I carried a piece about Khaligraph Jones taking subliminal shots at fellow rapper Octo by referring to number nane. After he read the article, he called us out for not calling him for a clarification.

Whether or not I should have called him is contentious even at the office because I personally see no need to call anyone over statements made on social media. But given how henched lad is, I am not 100% convinced of my own argument. His fists could plead his case sufficiently.

Anyway, he took to twitter to refute the allegations that he has beef and this was his statement:

Which to me is like saying, “the beef is false, Octo is the one with a problem”. Anyway, today afternoon, Kristoff was being hosted on 1FM’s Drive Show corroborated his story by saying that Octo is the man with the problem as Khaligraph jones doesn’t have beef with him.

Doesn’t explain the Facebook comment though:

NTV Morning Show Presenter Kobi Kihara Loves Using Matatus And Here’s Why

I don’t mind matatus. They are convenient when I don’t end up arguing with the manamba about my change. And I seem to not be the only person who appreciates matatus. Kobi Kihara recently opened up about her love for matatus when she said:

“I enjoy those rides, i also use that time to reply to my text messages and do other things on my mobile phone.”

Kobi explained that matatus are very convenient and commuting on them saves her the fuel she would have wasted driving around town in search of parking space.

“I enjoye those rides, i also use that time to reply to my text messages and do other things on my mobile phone.” Kobi said this yesterday during an interview with one financial adviser at her morning show in NTV.

This presenter who hosts the breakfast show alongside Sheila Mwanyigha also urged Kenyans to embrace saving as a culture irrespective of their status in the society. She says she still doesn’t understand why people look down upon public figures who commute on matatus.

Juliani Gets A Job Alongside Manchester City’s Player Yaya Touré

Award-winning Kenyan Hip-Hop musician – Juliani, has joined a ONE Campaign calling for African governments to commit to spending at least 10% of national budgets on effective agriculture investments, through transparent and accountable budgets. At the heart of the campaign, called Do Agric, it Pays, is an effort to push political leaders to adopt better policies that will boost productivity, increase incomes and help lift millions of Africans out of extreme poverty.

Nigerian singer-songwriter D’banj was on hand for the Do Agric, it Payskick-off event in Addis Ababa yesterday, along with campaign champion Benin President Yayi Boni. Civil society partners at the launch included the Pan African Farmers Association (PAFO), ActionAid International, Acord International, Oxfam and the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

Other notable champions include Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Côte d’Ivoirefootballer Yaya Touré, with Touré starring in a new ONE PSA, which debuted yesterday on one.org/doagric.

The launch of Do Agric in Addis Ababa coincided with the 2014 January African Union (AU) summit, where heads of state are gathered to discuss key development challenges across the continent. The AU has declared 2014 the Year of Agriculture in Africa.

“Now is the time to get our leaders to commit to a big push toward implementing effective agricultural policies, scale up public investment in agriculture and catalyze private sector participation in agriculture development,” said ONE Africa Director Dr. Sipho Moyo. “Of the more than 400 million Africans living in extreme poverty, 70% live in rural areas that depend on agriculture. Remarkably, the multiplier effect of agricultural growth in sub-Saharan Africa is estimated to be 11 times greater in reducing poverty than in other non-agriculture sectors such as utilities and mining.[1]”

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Observer/Pix/pictures/2012/6/19/1340108766219/DBanj-in-London-008.jpg

D’banj said, “There are massive untapped business opportunities in agriculture which could create jobs for millions of Africans on and off the farm. I want Africans to know that farming is not only the foundation of the economy, but also that farming is cool. I believe that, if the needed attention is given to agriculture, we Africans will not only feed ourselves, but also the rest of the world.”

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ee/Yaya_Tour%C3%A9.JPG

“While other African leaders have made statements of goodwill, currently only 8 countries have kept their promise to invest 10% of their national budgets in agriculture. It is therefore essential to do more, to go further. Agriculture is not only important, it is also vital. Agriculture pays,” said Yaya Touré.

“As a campaign, Do Agric really resonates with me – I’ve been committed to spreading the gospel about Agribusiness as a real solution to poverty in Africa for some time now”, says Juliani. “In Kenya, where I’m from, we have all the ingredients we need to achieve success in agriculture. Fertile soil, access to water, hardworking farmers – there is really no reason for anyone to go hungry. I’m happy to use my music and profile to spread the word about agriculture in Africa as a real key to poverty alleviation. I challenge African youth to really rethink how they perceive agriculture and get familiar with it’s amazing potential as a business. Do Agric – it Pays!”

About ONE: ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organisation of more than 3.5 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Strictly nonpartisan, they raise public awareness and press political leaders to combat AIDS and preventable diseases, increase investments in agriculture and nutrition, and demand greater transparency in poverty-fighting programs.

ONE is not a grant-making organization and does not solicit funding from the public or receive government funding. ONE is funded almost entirely by a handful of philanthropists and foundations.

They achieve change through advocacy. The teams in Washington, D.C., London, Johannesburg, Brussels, Berlin, and Paris educate and lobby governments to shape policy solutions that save and improve millions of lives.

Former Miss Kenya Lashes Out At KOT Arguing with Mike Sonko Over Lupita’s Hollywood Achievements (Part II)

Here’s the second part of Rachel’s response to the KOT who was trying to argue with Sonko on Twitter over whether Lupita achieved her accolades by virtue of her talents or otherwise.

Who told you that your opinion matters that much anyway? Who are you to try and put someone down? Do you know them, feed them, finance them or offer any other essential Fs in their lives? Trying to essentially tell them that they should tone down their efforts for the comfort of your self- embraced mediocrity… Sigh. Misery sure loves company but the fact is no Kenyan can take from another what is meant for them so either support or bugger off.

I remember being back in Kenya when spotting a celebrity/ athlete, say walking in town. Now that was 2007 and earlier so I hope this has changed but most people would do their very best not to acknowledge them or let them know they actually recognized or cared about them. It was kind of sad actually because the supposed-to-be-celebrated-person would be painfully aware of what they were doing too. It’s a Kenyan thing. I used to think that it was because Kenyans do not like to inflate egos because they prefer humility but I later realized that it comes more from a place of “you, as a Kenyan, do not deserve to be put on a pedestal over me” because those same Kenyans will turn around and lose their minds in adoration if a random American has-been celebrity from 1996 happens to show up for vacation. They will want pictures, autographs and whatever other bragging rights they can take away from that experience but when it comes to a local celebrity it’s all, “Nonini who?”.

_MG_3739p.jpg

Ironically, it was not about humility but more about their own egos and taking that moment to put that person down and show them, “you’re not better than me!”. Yeah, I said it. Kenya, the land where people will love you if you are foreign but treat you like crap if you are one of them…

It takes guts to follow your dreams, whether you’re in Nairobi, Nyanza, Kiambu, Europe or America. What you have to say on social media or otherwise doesn’t change what’s destined for that person no matter how hard you try to bring them down. Now, NOTE before the Kenyan twitter KGB, aka #KOT, comes attacking with their best Googled one liners, I said some Kenyans NOT ALL. Thankfully, not all suffer from the crabs in a barrel infliction. If you are not this type of Kenyan then this should not bother you but otherwise, a hit dog will holler. Go Lupita and any other Kenyan taking strides to better themselves. Less hating and more supporting Kenyans… Less hating and more supporting. Be inspired, don’t conspire. Deuces!

Former Miss Kenya Lashes Out At KOT Arguing with Mike Sonko Over Lupita’s Hollywood Achievements

This morning, we did a piece about a certain KOT who faced off with Senator Mike Sonko on Lupita’s huge success in Hollywood. The article seems to have generated interest from former Kenyan beauty queen, Rachel Marete currently residing in Los Angeles.

She opines;

Some Kenyans and their crabs in a barrel mentality. So quick to put fellow Kenyans down but give merit to foreigners as if fellow Kenyans are less deserving of success. Give credit where it’s due. Lupita Nyong’o made it off her own merit! I repeat, she deserves every inch of the success she’s having right now whether you like it or not! Trust and believe, when it comes to foreigners, Hollywood does not care who you are wherever it is you come from. You gotta prove yourself and that she did. I know politicians flood the daily news back home but no one knows Kenyan politics in Hollywood nor do they care. No one cares that you are the biggest celebrity in whatever country you come from in Hollywood nor do they care if you are the greatest village chief’s daughter or son. Heck, you could be a rich president’s sole heir somewhere in Africa but here in Hollywood you have to start from scratch and prove yourself all over again.

For the rest of the world to be exalting her, it truly sucks to see some Kenyans so intent on taking her merit away from her. We need to borrow a leaf from countries like Nigeria and Tanzania (and many other African countries) that ride hard for their people when they are trying to make a difference. Lupita is the new it girl in Hollywood and is an inspiration to black girls all over the world! She beat out American actresses for that role and I bet you the casting directors didn’t say, “Hmm, let’s give it to her because her father is a senator in Kenya”. To just have been there auditioning at that level is a fit in itself! It seems these Kenyans who take to twitter (KOT, blah blah blah) and etc to bully people and bar their progress are just people who put a cap on their own maximum potential and get intimidated by Kenyans who dare to go for their dreams.

Even here in the diaspora, a determined, ambitious Kenyan finds themselves trying to stay away from large Kenyan crowds because they have been told whenever they tried to hang around them- that “we Kenyans don’t do that here. We do nursing or business or take jobs in retirement homes…” or “who does he/ she think she is to think she is good/special enough to make it in Hollywood, or start a tech company or become a Real Estate mogul or work in the White House?” etc. That inherent inferiority complex that many Kenyans harbor, that keeps them wanting to believe they can’t do more gets shaken up forcing them to fathom the fact that they can actually leave their comfort zones and do more. As if success is not meant for US but for others.

Boy, colonialism sure did do a number on some of us, huh? The effects are still being felt in 2014. That’s why Kenyans are quick to say there’s no acting talent at home then act surprised that a Kenyan actress that starred in “Shuga” actually made it. That’s why foreigners in Kenya have the audacity to open establishments that are racist towards indigenous Kenyans and yet continue to thrive without repercussions.

_MG_3765p_-_Copy.jpg

That’s why many will support the likes of Rick Ross, who until recently did not even know Africa was not a country, over say Nonini or Camp Mulla. That’s why when I’m at home and when it comes to the 10 maybe 20% of local music played on major radio stations, I hear a lot of Nigerian music and a lot less from our local Kenyan artists. Yes, I decided it all stems from a deep rooted inferiority complex. They will ogle an Angelina Jolie on a red carpet and then ask themselves what Lupita’s doing standing there. Bitterness and jealousy from their own refusal to leave their comfort zones. Then comes their audacity to actually send discouragement veiled as “witty” or “funny” tweets in hopes of trying to dim that light that shines in said Kenyan trying to do differently.

“Had a great morning with @JulianiKenya. The kiss is for the great job he’s doing with farming. #justclarifying :-),” Caroline defended herself tweeting another photo of the kiss from another angle.

And then there was this guy;

Angie Of Mother-In-Law Shows Her Dark Side (Photo)

If you are an ardent fan of Citizen TV you have tuned in to a family favorite, Mother-In-Law.

Mother-In-Law follows the story of the Mwambas and sometimes the Mitegos. The show has built stars such as Catherine Kamau who plays Celina Mitego and Ida Wanyoike who plays Olive, the step daughter and pain in Celina’s ass.

Celina and Olive

Since Olive came into the Mwamba’s house it has been hell for her cousin wide-eyed Angie. Angie is the typical good girl; she is lovable and easy to walk over. Thanks to Olive Angie has often ran to her aunties Lisa and Celina to cry her heart out after a good taunting about her parents who have taken a hiatus from their home, leaving them under the care of the relatives.

Well it seems Angie who is played by Fridah Muhindi could be embracing her dark side. She rocks the harsh Gothic makeup. Clothes and accessories

Even Olive looks terrified

LOL! Juliani Ridicules Larry Madowo after Caroline Mutoko Kisses Him (PHOTO)

It would seems that NTV’s Larry Madowo and resplendent lyricist, Juliani are just about to face off on who will win Caroline Mutoko’s heart. Just a day after the radio queen asked Larry to be her Valentine’s date, the feisty NTV anchor is already hawk-eyed about any male species’ attention on Caroline.

Earlier today, Juliani was hosted on Kiss 100’s Big Breakfast. However, Larry seemed not so pleased with the idea and couldn’t just wait for the end of the interview. Running out of patient he barked Juliani out of the studio and even prompted Lynda and Chipukeezy to show him the door.

“@JulianiKenya umeongea ya kutosha. Toka kwa studio sasa uachane na @CarolineMutoko, eish! @thatchickLynda @chipukeezyvini fukuzeni huyu mtu,” tweeted Larry.

However, Juliani had a brilliant idea in mind. He made sure Larry was green with envy the best way there is. Take a look;

And Larry went silent.

Your guess is as good as mine on who has the bragging rights now.

Fashion Lessons From Sarah Hassan: Are You A Big Busted Woman? Here’s How To Show Off Your Cleavage Without Looking Trashy (PHOTOS)

Sarah Hassan is a busty woman and there is no doubt about that. I believe the way I have heard my mother describe such bodies types is “top heavy”. But see, the thing about Sarah Hassan is that she never comes off looking trashy when she shows off her cleavage.

Ladies, I am tired of seeing ratchet dressed trashy looking lasses at the club or at events who then turn around and demand respect when I address the twins! Dress as you wish to be addressed. And with that, let us show you how to flaunt a bust without looking several degrees inverse of the holy Madonna:

Is Maina Kageni Quitting Radio?

Maina Kageni is one of the biggest individual brands in the entertainment industry. He is the undisputed king of radio in as far marketing is concerned and you can ask your favourite advertiser about that.

But last year, on live air, Maina dropped a bombshell: he was going to quit radio this year and seek out a new challenge. When word went round that he would be quitting, his listeners went bonkers. they jammed the hotline begging him not to quit and leave them and we were both puzzled as to why the prospect of change scared so many.

But he seemed to indicate that his decision was solid and well thought through. And in a recent interview with my colleague Jeff, he gave a very strong indication that he would be leaving. His actual words were:

I will have a surprise for my listeners”

Then again, time will clarify all these rumours and whispers swirling round. I would have called him but from what I hear, he’s not in the country so I will ask him a direct question when he gets back.

Mike Sonko Faces off with KOT on How Lupita Made it in Hollywood

The beat has been going on for the beautiful and talented newcomer Lupita Nyong’o. This award season in Hollywood, Lupita’s name has been on everyone’s lips after she took the film world by storm. Goodwill messages have been flying in from around the corner for the stunning young Kenyan.

Back home, the President, his wife and most recently flamboyant Nairobi Senator, Mike Sonko delivered their laudatory messages to the silver screen queen.

The youthful senator tweeted, “Lupita Nyong’o is proof enough that when you want something then you can get it. It is up to u to decide Watu wangu”

However, one KOT seemed to differ with Sonko arguing, “…not in Kenya my Senator!,talent is killed, brains are suppressed n opportunities nepotised but Maybe things may change.”

Sonko’s response was sarcastic: “…and how did she make it? Ama Hollywood iko Kenya?”

But Hussein wasn’t giving up just yet;

“Sir,what chances would she have had if she didn’t bear the surname she has?”

But that also didn’t seem to hold water for the Senator;

“lupita’s second name didn’t get her to Hollywood. Ni talent. Hollywood hawaangali Jina yako wanaangalia ability,” adding, “and to answer your question hata Kama angekuwa anaitwa lupita kamau bado angechukuliwa. She would have made it still.”

Too Funny! Cute Cat Dances Like Mr. Nice (VIDEO)

I think I have had too much internet for a day! As I was trawling through the internets I came across a cat I swear is out in these deep dark nether regions of the internets dancing like MR. Nice.

Do you remember the Mr. Nice of years long gone by? The Mr. Nice that brought you “Takeu”? The one and the same that taught East Africa to dance “Kidalipo“? Well, I have found a cat that is dancing just like he was back then when he sung about cats wearing platform shoes and chiken riding bikes.

Without further ado, allow me to introduce the cat:

And incase you need to be reminded about how he used to dance, check out the video below:
