LIST: The Best Songs of the Year…So Far!

It might be too early to even try and figure out the best songs of the year so far, but we’ll try anyway.

From the usual suspects, Octopizzo (as a featured artiste) to a comeback king, a remix from an actress-turned-musician, a dancer-turned-musician and surprisingly, the only artiste with more than one song is an artiste we’d barely heard of two months ago.

1. Supasta by Boneless featuring Inami
Boneless follows up his 2011 debut hit, Kusunga with another brilliant single.
PLAY HERE

2. Hakuna Yule (Missing You) by Avril
This is the track that will finally make me an Avril fan.

3. So Alive by Sage featuring Octopizzo
Sage proves herself to come out of this year as one of the finest artiste as she has two singles on this list.
{youtube}mdil1glAHRw{/youtube}

4. Dodoma 2 (Betty) by Rabbit featuring Harry Kimani
Rabbit takes a second shot at the track that made him famous a couple of years ago and brings back an old friend.
{youtube}4LHKKYcBWVk{/youtube}

5. Can’t Take It by 125 ft. Didge & Sage
Didge Makes his comeback on the 125 track with Sage…again.
PLAY HERE

6. Nariki Ocio (Love Mission Remix) by Nariki
More than a year after the release of actress Janet Kirina’s Love Mission, she comes out with an electro remix that actually works.

7. Kumerera by Madtraxx a.k.a Maddy
A lot of people said that Madtraxx had finally made a miss, but the song grows on you like a virus.
{youtube}-qYEHQASzes{/youtube}

8. Be My Baby by Marvin B
Pro’voke is mostly known for his electronic sounds but who would have thought he could a hot track with a ragga artiste.

Kaytrixx now working on his own clothing line, ‘Hangover254’

Is there any Kenyan artiste who by now doesn’t have his/her own clothing line? Really? Because it seems to be the order of the day in the music industry.

And I say that with no offense at all. Here in Kenya, to dream about living off of music alone is just that… A DREAM. You gotta have a side hustle of some kind, hence most artiste choose to come up with their own clothing lines.

Well, DJ Kaytrixx shall not be left behind. He has just assured his fans that he too will soon be launching his own clothing line. Actually, he will be ready to launch it by next week and will title it ‘Hangover254’.

“Many people have been asking me why I don’t have a clothing line. My answer was, good things come to those who plan and wait. The time is now. First designs will be out next week… “Hangover254″… it is time,” Kaytrixx wrote on his facebook wall.

Have you read this hearty letter from Rwanda to Kenya?

In our quest to preach peace during and after this general election period, we came across this hearty letter from Rwanda to Kenya, as shared by Sauti Sol.

This is a must read for every Kenyan.

URGENT LETTER TO MY SISTER ,KENYA…

Morning Sis, My name is RWANDA..Your small Sis…This letter is a bit long…nway,How are You? Hope you are good…Just like Me…Sis, Its long since we talked but this letter is urgent ! You have to do what I say!

Sis, in April 1994,the worst happened to Me. After the death of My President,Juvenal Habyarimana, who was a TUTSI,My people went totally crazy!

You see,The TUTSI and HUTU were the major tribes that I had…Now,the HUTU were smaller than the TUTSI and the TUTSI had held on to power for so long! And in April, madness began!

After a fierce campaign propaganda by the angry HUTUs,who wanted power too,I watched as the HUTU bought 581,000 machetes(pangas) from China.

I sadly watched as the HUTU also bought rocket launchers, mortar bombs, grenades and ammunition worth £18M from Egypt.

My heart was beating. My soul was scared. I watched, with sadness and fear, the media spreading false propaganda ,lies and innuendo to the public!

I even watched the CHURCH preaching hatred, ethnicity and war.

I couldn’t believe this was happening. The stage was set for War.My children were getting prepared for the worst! Hate Leaflets were being spread. The HUTU were getting armed. The TUTSI were getting scared.

Sis, one sad morning, IT HAPPENED!

I heard children screaming! I saw women crying! I heard men wailing! MY HEART ALMOST STOPPED!

Sis, within 100 days, My children turned into animals! They butchered each other! Slaughtered each other! Ambushed each other!

I watched as 1,000 TUTSI children were burnt alive in a Polish Catholic Church!

I watched as 2,500 TUTSI men were bombed to death while hiding in a tiny, crowded Church!

I watched sadly as around 250,000 girls were mercilessly raped and beaten to death!

I watched as 400,000 TUTSI men lost their manhood after it was cut in public by the HUTU!

I watched as 2,000 women were thrown into a pit of fire like dead houseflies!

I watched endless rivers of blood flow in my streets!

I watched children crying, children mourning their parents, children being slaughtered with machetes!

I watched as USA President ,Bill Clinton and the U.N peace keepers ignored Me! Letting Me destroy myself!

I knew that’s was the END OF ME.

It was sad! Painful! Unbelievable!

For 100 days,My children did the worst! It was blood, tears, sorrow, pain, death and agony!

And Finally,I LOST A MILLION PEOPLE! Yes,A MILLION Tutsi and Hutu died in just 100 days!

When the madness stopped,I knelt and thanked God!

They were fighting for a politician! Fighting for a tribe! Fighting for power!

BUT what did they gain? NOTHING! Absolutely NOTHING!

Until today, I HAVE NEVER recovered from the madness! I have so many scars,so much pain!

Sis,

I see Your people are holding elections in 3days. I see You guys are getting ready! I see two major Kenyan tribes,LUO and KIKUYU,have the major Presidential Candidates.

Sis, take My Word;

.Whatever happens ,

.Whoever wins

.Whoever loses

.Whether they rig or not

.Whether the loser accepts the results or not

.Whatever they tell You

.Whether they incite You or Not

.Whatever grudge you may have towards the winning tribe or Candidate

Sis,

I ASK YOU IN THE NAME OF GOD,

Please,DO NOT DO WHAT WE DID!

.Do NOT burn that church

.Do NOT rape that woman

.Do NOT slaughter those children

.Do NOT mutilate those hands or legs

.Do NOT use that panga

.Do NOT massacre those poor kids!

Sis,I LOVE YOU! Am always praying for You, I want the BEST for you!

Take it from Me Sis,

Sis, am crying as I write this….my eyes are wet…My heart is heavy….

Sis,AM DOWN ON MY KNEES: I ASK YOU IN THE NAME OF JEHOVAH GOD,DO NOT DO WHAT WE DID!!! Do NOT!

I would NEVER wish that ANY COUNTRY goes through what I did! NEVER!

Kenya,I LOVE YOU SIS!

You are BIGGER than any tribe or any politician!

Have a fun election day.

LOVE,
RWANDA.

Young flamboyant former Homeboyz Radio and now One FM owner Sir Henry Otiende is the latest to get CORDed. The very successful businessman together with his wife, Aisha endorsed the Prime Minister’s bid for presidency in a short video.

Sir Henry said that he is voting for Raila because he wants consistency and feels that Raila stands for stability. Being a businessman with extensive ventures, he added that he does not want surprises like the fluctuation of the dollar.

Other than his media investments in Kenya, Sir Henry owns residential and commercial houses in the UK worth millions of pounds.

Julie Gichuru To Mirfat’s Rescue

The Tujuane-Mirfat melodrama has been thrown into another twist. Just hours after Tujuane issued a statement denying the allegations by Mirfat that the show follows a script, Citizen TV’s Julie Gichuru has added her voice to issue.

According to Julie, Mirfat is being subjected to online bullying just because she followed the script of the show. Expressing her disappointment that the Kenyan online community is victimizing the poor lady for what she terms as “a choreographed TV show”.

“The current hideous and relentless online bullying of a young lady for a choreographed tv show is simply sad. We must reject #bullying” tweeted the Citizen TV anchor.

Julie tweet

So, can the allegations by Mirfat that she works for Julie Gichuru be true or was Julie simply coming to the rescue of a misconstrued lady? Be the judge….

Peter Kenneth Address The “Wasted Vote” Slur!

Ladies and gentlemen, alot has been said about not voting for Peter Kenneth. Some claim that such a vote will be a gamble. Others claim it’ll be a wasted vote. But Peter Kenneth feels different. To be frank, so do i. I do not buy into the herd mentality being dispensed by various propaganda machines.

But Peter Kenneth put it best. His response was short and sweet. Succinct actually. Here’s how he chose to respond to the naysayers:

A vote for me on Monday will not be a wasted vote. It will be a vote for the change Kenya deserves now not in the future. I’m counting on you to spread the word so that together we can deliver victory. Tunawesmake!

And come Monday, i will be voting for the first time. And i will cast my vote for him. Because i believe Kenya deserves more than rhetoric. Kenya deserves leadership, not politics. Tunawesmake!

One of the Most Beautiful Renditions of the National Anthem You’ll Ever Hear

AnnieSoul (Annette Oduor) was born and raised in Nairobi who performs as a vocalist and pianist but is also a songwriter and producer.

According to her Website, “she serves up her unique take on a Swahili (sometimes Luo)-laden, socially conscious neo-soul sound, doused in African rhythms, with just the right tinge of jazz (aka Afro Soul). Drawing on her experiences in Nairobi, and across the continent, AnnieSoul has come to embody the cosmopolitan and multicultural nature of her hometown.”

She has racked up an enviable resume with a slew of covers made over the last one year, most of them a capella. In an ongoing series where we feature music from her cover project, we featured her Mercy Myra cover tribute. Today, it’s her rendition of the National Anthem, which was the first cover she did in the project.

All of her cover songs could easily fit into Ghafla!’s list of the best cover songsAbout this particular piece she says, “This truly is my favorite Kenyan song. I wish I wrote those powerful lyrics.” And it shows in her performance which you can check out below.

Bootylicious Socialite Vera Sidika Addresses Her Haters

Just days after releasing her latest sexy photos, socialite Vera Sidika is receiving so much hate on her Facebook page. Apparently some malicious faceless guy created Facebook and Twitter accounts dedicated to abhor the bootylicious swimsuit model.

Fed up with the detestation that had gravitate to family, Vera decided to address them in finality. Take a look;

“Haters can kiss my ASS…Long heels…Red bottoms” (and posted the following photo)

That was last night, this morning Vera posted this;

It’s one thing to hate on someone.it’s another to be disrespectful and insult.n abuse their parents.Especially when you don’t know them…I woke up to a page that was created yesterday. &its sad how someone would take their time to hate so much. n abuse my mum n dad. (I don’t care if u call me all sorts of names n insult me) just don’t bring my mum n dad into the picture.

It’s hurtful…very. but I’m a strong lady.I will just continue praying for them. (though I think I know who is behind this)

Fab day y’all.

Today at 1PM, sing the National Anthem wherever you are with fellow Kenyans

So, in about fifteen, just incase the person next to you suddenly bursts with joy and starts singing the Kenyan National Anthem at the top of his/her voice, don’t be alarmed. That just means you didn’t get the memo.

Today (28th February), at exactly 1PM, Kenyans all over the country will simultaneously sing the three stanzas of the National Anthem, from wherever they/we will be.

This is to show the love and unity that lies withing the hearts of the Kenyan people.

1PM, 1 Nation, 1 People, 1 Anthem, United in 1 Prayer for 1 Kenya.

Clear your throats…

Larry Asego Solicits His Boss To Pay Him Before Elections

Barely a week after convening a meeting with his mischievous neighbours where he addressed the election issue, Larry Asego turns his attention to his boss to bring him up-to-date with the latest state of affairs in politics and requests him to pay them before the elections.

Here’s his letter to him;

Dear Boss. What’s up? Not as in hovering in the air but as in of greetings. We hear Njoro the accountant wants to go to Nyandarua to vote before signing our salos, tell him to stop those ones of bogus. He’s such a dwanzi. A dwanzi is a guy who is not there his all. Not as in absent but as in doesnt know what’s cutting, not as in with a knife but as in wassup. Anyway Feb is the illest month coz you pay us mapema. You are the illest, not as in you are sick but as in you are the top shutter my guy, not top shutter like for the door but like DNG. DNG is an artist who shaved his dreadlocks. You don haffi dread to be rasta by the way.

Anyway Vomiting Joyce aka Vomz is sad bars will close two days before elections. Her busaa joint is closed coz Mama Nyanduse aka MaPlank has gone to Kisii to vote. Kisii is a place where people talk loudly on the phone and threaten girls not to dump them. So we will see if her morning sickness that started at 3pm will resume today or if she stops vomzing. By the way Oxford acceptesVomzing as a word to replace vomiting so they will send us compensation money. Hehehehe we gonna make it rain up in here over there in your office. Not as in pour water but as in get jiggywid it.
Speaking of office, Kama wants to organise a bash in your office after elections to celebrate whoever wins. A bash is a get together where people just show up with their friends without being invited. He has a new squeeze by the way, her name is Magdaline but you can call heMagdalish. Not squeeze as in oranges but as in gachugwa. Gachugwa is a romantic term that means oranges. Not as in on Delmonte but as in of yellow yellow. Not as in of airport taxis but as in a shorty. Not as in heightwise but ngaofliend.

Johnny is also standing in Kibra. Kibra is a place where everybody knows welding. It used to be Kibera until after the debate. Anyway Not standing as in not seated but as in politically. He wants to be Women’s Rep since he has qualifications. He is Mama Yao remember. And he is also illuminati and he has connections, not as in electrician but as in grassroots. Not grassroots as in farmer but he is so on top bad. He says he will be back to work if things bite themselves each other so dont advertise his post. By the way we will not be in next week since we will go to vote and we are voting far far. So incase we dont show up the whole week dont catch feelings. We will be back like Swazneger, he is an alien.

Anyway pay us by today Johhny wants cash to campaign. We love you and your wife. You are the illest. Not as in sick. But if you dont vote then you are the illest that one of sick and we will laugh at you like Maragolis khikhikhikhikhikhi.

Cheers Big Boss. Not big as in you are fat, infact you are my weight mate.

With the general polls just around the corner, Kenyan media houses are tightening their belts to outclass each other in elections coverage. Last night, KTN unveiled a state-of-the-art studio that can only be likened to the ones owned by CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera.

Dubbed the “Election Centre”, the studio has a Google Hangout and two other venues; The Summit and the main studio all harmonized to bring their viewer up to speed with election goings-on. With the Election Centre in place KTN has made interactivity very easy not with its local viewers but also those streaming live.

Known for his emotive signature in songs, mellow-voiced KanjiiMbugua is back with a new track calling upon Kenyans to unite ahead of the polls.

New Music Alert: Military Swagg Team Wants To Have It All

Right when the lad singing the chorus starts you can’t help but like the track. The lad is so soulful and melodious, he leaves you nooption but to hum along as he daclares that he wants it all.

The instrumentals are hiphop influenced. What am i saying? It’s a hiphop track, ofcourse it’s instrumentals will be hiphop *facepalm*. But away from that, the lyrics are what you’d expect from a song called “Have It All”; they speak about wanting theluxuries in life. The rings, chains, cars and designer clothes. The lyrical construct is overall good and so are the rappers but to be honest the hook does it for me. What threw me off a little was the third verse where the rapper talks about losing friends to the streets, gun violence and whatnot and i couldn’t relate.

All in all, a good attempt. Have a listen to the track for yourself. And you can find more of their music here.

Kenyan Actors Advocate For Peace

With the General Elections beckoning, artists and actors alike are putting their heads together to promote peaceful co-existence to avoid a repeat of the 2007/08 scenario. Already, there are a number of songs out encouraging harmony among Kenyans ahead of the elections.

As such, Kenyan actors have come together under the banner “One Tribe, One Kenya” to champion for peace in the country. Reminding Kenyans of the ugly scenes that are brought about by turmoil, the exact scenario five years ago, the actors beseech Kenyans to remain peaceful.

Apart from the peace message, the actors also call upon Kenyans to vote for peace by voting wisely. Above all, the actors are saying that despite the different ethnic backgrounds, we are one tribe echoing the words of the National Anthem.

dear readers, we wish to apologies for the technical glitch that saw Ghafla crash yesterday. We regret the occurence but are pleased about the circumstances. However, we are doing our best to ensure it doesn’t occur again.

John Sibi Okumu recently joined Kiss TV but he is still doing what he loves best, writing plays.

The new play started on Friday, 15th February and will run till Sunday, 2nd March. It’s a rich tapestry of emotion and discovery that will have you see yourself and your community in a series of encounters the characters have. George Mungai directs an amazing cast of Phoenix Players in bringing this production to life.

SYNOPSIS: “Faoulata, under the guise of interviewing her grandmother for a book on the families of political dissenters is, in fact, searching for her own roots. She already knows that the father whom she has never seen since she was a little girl went into exile and formed a union abroad with a woman other than her own mother.

There is expectation in the air: Her father Augustus, ‘Gus’ to all, is returning to be in Kenya in time to witness momentous elections. Some excitement and tension are also foreseeable; Some sensitive encounters will be in order. Over a series of ‘Meetings’ what will be resolved, and what will not?”

The Bootiful Vera Sidika Says She Has No Beef With Huddah Monroe

Vera Sidika, the big booty girl who got P-Unit’s “You Guy” video banned, was viciously attacked by socialite Huddah Monroe.

Huddah went to the extent of claiming that she had nvde photos of Vera in her possession. In that article, we framed it as though the two had beef with each other, but Vee Beiby has come to clear up the air on what is really happening.

Vee says that it is only Huddah who has a problem with her, but she does not have a problem with Huddah.”I would not like to be associated or mentioned next to that girl you put me up with,” she told us, “I haven’t mentioned any names in any of my tweets, I’ve not been in any tweef with anyone.” There she was alluding to the alleged Twitter beef with Huddah.

At this point, I think I should mention that Vera and Huddah were once put on a Ghafla! poll asking who was the hotter of the two. Vera won.

Vee Beiby continued, “She’s just bitter coz I’ve been travelling alot lately. I didn’t beef her. I’m sure beef is word on word directly. SHE says I lied that I was in Ghana. SHE started it. SHE was beefing all morning about my trip to Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria. I didn’t get why it would bother her.If I went or not, it shouldn’t concern her. I don’t wanna be associated or put in a story with her.”

So there you have it. No more Vera vs. Huddah. The beef is squashed.

Eko Dydda, Mimmo and Kenrazy to collaborate

Artistes are now joining forces to conquer the music industry. When extreme talents are all merged into one product, the result is explosive and that is just what these three artistes are thinking of right now.

In a few weeks’ time, you will be hearing a collaborative track from three longtime, hit making artistes.

Eko Dydda, Mimmo and Kenrazy will be at their best of works on this new track that they are currently working on. Not much information has been revealed about this song but it is definitely in the studio, still getting being worked on and judging by the hype that the artistes are giving it, this will be one dope track.

Thing is, I can’t tell which genre it will belong to seeing that all its artistes are from totally different sides of music. I see gospel, I see trance/house and some little bit of Hip-Hop and Kapuka. But what shall it be? Only time will tell.

Top Ghanian reggae star dedicates a song to Nairobi with the coolest video

When you talk about real African reggae artistes, the names Alfa Blondie and Lucky Dube, just to mention a few, should not miss your tongue. Many reasons fall into this, the shallowest but relevant of them all being the fact that they do not try to sing like our Jamaican brothers (that is in the patwa slung).

Another name that should now be on your lips when talking about real and natural African reggae artistes, should be Ghana’s Rocky Dawuni. He is one of the most respected and recognised artistes in West Africa and is now slowly building his fan base here. But if you are a reggae fan, you probably know about him already.

A month or so ago, Rocky Dawuni was in Nairobi for a short period of time. He and Juliani were working on a similar projects that is yet to be launched and in the process, he managed to make time for recording and shooting a video for a new song. A song dedicated to Nairobi, expressing his love through his vocals and vibes. Reminding Kenyans just how much we have, which should be in our minds through out this election period.

The song is titled ‘Nairobi, I Love You’ and was launched yesterday. The video was shot right here in Nairobi – parts of it in Kibera but most of it in the CBD. The video takes us through his journey in this beautiful city, meeting people like Chris Kirubi and even walking along the Kibera Railway lines.

This is a must watch, especially for the proud Kenyans and Africans out there.

Lagos’ Heavy Traffic Also Contributed To Goldie’s Death

Turns out that Kenyans are not the only people suffering from congestion of cars on the roads. Our Nigerian brothers have it way worse. Our Uncle Chim Tuna is now left with no choice but to deal with the situation as it is.

It has now been revealed that Goldie’s death may have also been caused by traffic that was partly as a result of the Valentine festivities on the night she died (14th February).

“Although Bimpe (Goldie) appeared energetic and happy all her life, on February 14, 2013, she complained of headache which led to her death. Her last words were with her father when she snatched the phone from her brother and asked that she wanted to talk to daddy. While crying about a splitting headache, she asked for prayer support. Alas she went into a coma almost immediately and died on the way to hospital due to the Valentine traffic” a sad and heartbroken Joshua (Goldie’s younger brother) told a Nigerian website.

Goldie was laid to rest a day ago.
