Kenyan Celebs Join the Rest of the World in Mourning Renowned Rhumba Maestro

The 73 year old passed on this afternoon at a Belgium hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for a stroke he suffered in 2008. The Congolese musician inspired a generation of Lingala and Rhumba music which swept through the entire region in the 70s and 80s.

The late Tabu ley was the leader of Orchestre Afrisa International and one of Africa’s most influential vocalists and prolific songwriters. Along with guitarist Dr Nico Kasanda, Tabu Ley pioneered soukous; he internationalised his music by fusing elements of Congolese folk music with Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin American rumba.

What Critics Are Saying About The Latest Hunger Games Sequel

The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire, stormed into the cinemas a week ago.

With fears of a sophomore slump and uncertainty over a new director taking the reins, success was not guaranteed. But if we go by the ‘trusted’ critics, the fears have been allayed. Jeniffer Lawrence’s return and music video director Francis Lawrence have a hit on their hands. Check out what noted critics had to say about the dystopian action drama below:

The screen ‘Hunger Games’ radiates a hot, jumpy energy that’s irresistible. It has epic spectacle, yearning romance, suspense that won’t quit and a shining star in Jennifer Lawrence, who gives us a female warrior worth cheering.” — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Best of all, the movie effectively showcases the allure of the story’s remarkable, kick-ass 16-year-old heroine, Katniss Everdeen.” — Lisa Schwartzbaum, EW

The Hunger Games’ runs nearly two and a half hours in length but is the rare film that never drags and doesn’t overstay its welcome.” — Christy Lemire, AP

An effective piece of melodramatic popular entertainment that savvily builds on the foundation established by the first “Hunger Games” movie.” — Kenneth Turan, The Times

A muscular, engrossing, unexpectedly bleak epic of oppression and insurrection, directed with dramatic urgency and a skilled eye.” Ty Burr, The Boston Globe

Jennifer Lawrence does not act like someone in an action movie but like someone in a life-and-death drama that happens to have lots of running and jumping. Director Francis Lawrence makes sure that not a single performance is tossed off. Every effort is made to portray this awful future world as something real and to have the actors react with the right sense of terror and entrapment.” — Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

Kenyans On Twitter Still Continue To Troll “Fundamentals” And Now Rachel Shebesh And Sonko Are Involved (PHOTO)

Kenyans On twitter are back at it again. This time they are busy trolling an old subject matter but in a new way. Remember the track fundamentals? Well, they are done with the meme with the kangaroo and they are now onto a rather dicey subject matter but with even more humor quotient.

This time round, the song “Fundamental;s” is being sang by Nairobi senator Gideon “Sonko” Mbuvi and Nairobi women’s rep. Rachel shebesh who has been eerily silent. And I know you can nearly already taste the joke and that is a rather tantalising taste. But I will not tickle tastebuds for long for here is the picture of the troll:

Meet The Woman Behind Beauty Solutions For Africa’s Biggest Shows, Including Face Of Nairobi

Put a dark-skinned woman and the African sun together, throw in some grossly overpriced, often counterfeit make-up brands into the equation and what do you get? A recipe for disaster. Multiply that and you have a population of fashion police’s most wanted, not to mention a host of unsightly skin reactions.

This was the inspiration that led Suzie Wokabi, International Relations degree holder, to pursue her passion and create her authentic, affordable, high quality African make-up brand.

And it makes sense that SuzieBeauty would be the official make-up guys when Nairobi crowns its hottest beauty. They are one of the sponsors of the Face of Nairobi pageant going down tomorrow at the Pride Inn Hotel on November 30th between 7.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m. Ordinary tickets to The Face Of Nairobi show will go for Kshs. 1,500 while VIP tickets are going for Kshs. 2,500. Get advance tickets at missnairobi.com. Pride Inn Hotel is located on Westlands Road, next to Graffins College.

This revolutionary line is Kenya’s first make-up/beauty brand and a global trailblazer in creating a bespoke product for the African woman, by an African woman.

Soon after graduating from University in the U.S, Suzie dove right into the fashion industry. She was trained by MAC Cosmetics and completed an intensive Media Make-up certificate course at the Award Studio Make-up School in Los Angeles.

She worked in New York within the fashion and beauty industries from 2001 until 2007, when she returned to her hometown of Nairobi, Kenya.

Suzie is now an accomplished make-up artist whose extensive industry experience runs the full gamut from Print Media to Television, Film, Video, Commercials, Runway, and Bridal.

She began creating her make-up/beauty brand in early 2009 and officially launched it in December, 2011. The hallmark of Suzie Beauty products is affordable, great quality, tailor-made for the unique needs of women living in the African climate.

To date, Suzie’s work has been featured in the Italian Vogue L’Uomo magazine, as well as countless local glossy magazines. She has graced the covers of Passion for Life, Prestige Magazine and True Love Magazines.

Since 2008 she has worked with Kenyan fashion veterans such as Ann McCreath of Kiko Romeo and the illustrious annual FAFA show (Festival of African Fashion and Arts), which draws several international heavyweights in support of its noble cause.

One of her major clients throughout her artistry career has been MNet, through which SuzieBeauty’s work has been seen on various TV Shows like IDOLS, The Patricia Show, Catwalk Africa, Face of Africa and Coke Studio. She has led SuzieBeauty backstage through three seasons of the biggest regional TV Show, Tusker Project Fame which is now in its 6th season.

SuzieBeauty sponsors most major fashion events including Fashion & Beauty Expo (FAB), Nairobi Fashion Market, Samantha Bridal Expo, Miss World Kenya and Kenya Fashion Week.

Suzie has been featured in vibrant design and lifestyle hubs including the blogs FashionNotebook, FashionForensic, DressupNation, and Kenyanstylista. Interviewed by world-renowned journalists like Jeff Koinange and featured in the New York Times, Suzie was named one of the Five Fashion icons of 2012 by Nairobi’s Capital FM radio station.

SuzieBeauty products are readily accessible online and in retail outlets in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and even in Kampala, Uganda, as well as in Australia. Additionally, the company plays a key role in the fashion, beauty, media and bridal industries and has established a seasonal school where aspiring local make-up artists can learn this valuable skill.

Ordinary tickets to The Face Of Nairobi show will go for Kshs. 1,500 while VIP tickets are going for Kshs. 2,500. Get advance tickets at missnairobi.com. Pride Inn Hotel is located on Westlands Road, next to Graffins College.

Check Out Pictures Of Prezzo With His Sweet Daughter (PHOTO GALLERY)

A few weeks ago, i did a piece about Prezzo’s daughter. It was really an introduction. I basically introduced Prezzo and Daisy Kiplagat’s daughter and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I now have a picture of Prezzo actually with his scion and looking paternal and I must say that it’s such a good look.

And the rest of the pictures are of Prezzo’s daughter in various stages of growing up. I have to see that honestly, I have begun to look at Prezzo in a new light. Check out his daughter below:

Eric Omondi Embraces His Gangster Side

Very little has been documented about Eric Omondi despite being a very public figure, his private life is a hush hush affair and his finances were unknown until very recently.

He was the main guest on K24’s Young Rich where he was put on the spot to speak about his wealth and he revealed that he was worth 30 Million. This was met with a lot of shock as most rich celebrities tend to flaunt their cash unlike Mr Omondi who attributes most of his fortunes to his talent, comedy.

Despite his vast wealth,Eric has managed to stay humble and his riches have certainly not stopped him from goofing around. He has dressed up as Santa Claus,a house help,an athlete now Eric gets his gangster on.

WARNING: Fake Septuka Tickets On Sale. CAVEAT EMPTOR

It has come to my attention that there are fake, fraudulent, fallacious tickets being sold by flimflam fraudster confidence-men in downtown Nairobi (where else?) and some potential Sepetuka fans are falling prey to these men who prey on greed and a hunger for getting free or cheap commodities.

And I as Uncle Chim Tuna have to warn you against buying these fake tickets. Attention was called to the problem thanks to Twitter and a rather attentive tweep who has decided to warn Kenyans so as to avoid any embarrassing situations and feelings of resentment.

Do not buy any tickets when you see a sign such as this:

Do not buy these tickets. The only place you can get any advance tickets is from ticketsasa.com or by following the link embedded in this sentence -just click the link.

And whenever you come across these shhh*defecate* shenanigans, let the good people on twitter know so that we can avoid a scenario in which people fall prey to these conmen. Please remember that these advance tickets are forgeries.

The only place you can get advance tickets is off ticketsasa.com and just to make it easier for you, here is the link. Do not be fooled.

The only other place you can get a ticket is from the gate on the night of the event.

Meet The Tujuane Hostess’ (Yvonne) Mother (PHOTO)

Yvonne is the beautiful lass who co-hosts the popular KTN TV dating game show “Tujuane” which has introduced some 15minutes starlets and Kenyans with some of the quarkiest personalities to the nation. We have laughed at some of the more colourful characters and empathized with some of the victims of their bile.

But just who are the hosts of this wildly popular show? I am not Sherlock Holmes so I know not -nary a fact except for their names. But what I do know is how Yvonne’s mother looks. And I have a picture that I will share with you so you know too.

She has curly jet-black hair and is chocolate in complexion and has strong ethnic features -Luhya to be exact but I could be wrong. Tell me what you think though, after you’ve checked her out below:

Chipukeezy is one of the fastest rising comedians in Kenya. No other Churchill propelled comedian has run with the opportunity availed to them quite like Chipukeezy.

And i have managed to find out a closely guarded secret of the next big Kenyan comedian: he has a lass. A very beautiful bodacious beau if I might add. The lad is unbelievably lucky. And it has finally sunk in that women truly do like men who make them laugh.

Anyway, without further ado, i present to you, the funny lad’s lass:

Ken Wa Maria’s Shocking Confession About His ‘Fundamentals’

When we first wrote about ken Wa Maria’s Fundamentals we did not know how huge a phenomenon this song would be. Fast forward to a month later and phoon-duh-men-does is now an urban rage.

Rappers, singers and even agencies are clamoring for a moment in the sun with this popular Kamba artiste thanks to his sexual innuendo about his  Fundamentals. And who can forget the hilarious memes made by Kenyans? This one is my favorite:

But what inspired Kennedy Wambua Nguze to sing about his Fundamentals?Did he lock himself in a room and meditate or was he inspired by a woman in his life. His explanation to what inspired the song is pretty simple, shockingly simple. Speaking to Standard Digital Ken Wa Maria says that he wrote the song and recorded it after having one too many!

And on that note, these are his things, these are his Fundamentals!

This Is How Smart Nameless And Wahu’s Kid Is

Kenya’s ‘it’ celebrity couple Wahu and Nameless were not only pioneers in the music industry but were also the first official celebrity couple.

A few years ago the MTV Award winning couple got their first-born Tumiso Nyakwea who has not only grown to be super delightful but is very wise for her age and definitely a great role model for her little sister Nyakio. The proud mother posted this earlier about eight year old Tumiso

Proud mommy moment:

At the toy shop the other day, i overheard Tumiso and another little girl discussing dolls. “Which one do you think is prettier?” Tumi asked, holding out 2 dolls, one blonde blue eyed, one dark with a cute afro. The other little girl pointed at the blonde blue eyed girl, and proceeded to say why: “her hair is better, her skin is better, her eyes…” Tumi said “but this one looks more like us!” holding up the black doll. “i think you’re really pretty! Do you not think you’re pretty?” Oh! i would have died with pride.

Nyambane And Linda Muthama’s Daughter Is Now All Grown Up(Photos)

Linda Muthama’s relationship with Nyambane was initially met with unadulterated hostility and disapproval as Nyambane was already married.

Names such as home wrecker and other unmentionables were hurled at Linda and the lass had to spend a lot of time trying to squash gossip that she had wrecked a home. But this did not deter Nyambane from making an honest woman out of her and soon enough Linda Muthama became Mrs Naymbane.

With time, critics have come to accept this union as legit.Last year, the couple was blessed with an adorable baby by the name Laika Bosibori and little Bosibori is now exactly an year old.

Hypeman Extraordinaire Lugz Shows Off What He Bought In Europe. Kenyan Celebs Are Getting Stylish

First it was Prezzo who showed off what he had and now Kenya’s celebrities are beginning to sit up, take note and basically demand not to be counted out. I saw DJ Mo post a picture of some rather sick Chucks he had bought and now Lugz, Jaguar’s hypeman has stepped forth to show Kenya what he will be “stuntin on ’em” with,.

I have seen alot of fake Louis Vuitton merchandise floating about and I have seen lots of fake Gucci and Versace and trust me when I say that you only make a fool of yourself when you flaunt flimsy fake fuchsia Fendi and real men.

If you can’t afford it, be happy with what you can afford and to pay and purchase an original. But i get the feeling I am strumming sitar strings for a dead goat so I shall let you be.

Lugz, jaguar’s right hand man went shopping and an insider of the entourage sent me a picture of what the lad has copped. Check out his trendy wear below:

This Is What Went Down At The Much Anticipated Premiere Of Shuga 3 (PHOTOS)

Shuga’s unapologetic and radical focus on love, raw emotions and sexual behavior amongst the Kenyan youth is what has made the program such a hit.

The first and second season aired in Kenya but they decided that the third season should be in Naijaland.MTV Shuga season 3 premiered in an event full of glitz and glamour. Women in their haute couture and men looking very dapper in tuxedos whileotyhers opted for jeans and tees or a semi official look.

Check Out Kaz Back When She Was A Cute Baby (PHOTO)

Kaz is one of the most sexiest celebrities we have in Kenya and I have gone on record as having acknowledged that how she bounced back when she was down and out -or maybe I just have that “Amazon complex”. But whatever it maybe, she is too many levels of sexy.

But how did she look when she was still a baby? Well, I have a picture of her and her older brother from an era already forgotten -childhood and I figured i should share it with Kenya so here goes:

KBC Set To Be Auctioned

KBC has been going through a rough patch for quite a while now -to the extent that it seems as though this is how things have always been. The national broadcasting station owes so much money to a Japanese corporation, it would be insensitive for me to repeat the amount… But you can read about all that here.

And as if that weren’t be enough to send the Managing director right off the bend, yet another creditor has come a knocking and they are baying for blood and are insisting on their pound of flesh.

KBC apparently owes monies to the Nairobi county council in land rates and Dr. Evans Kidero the Nairobi County Governor has demanded what he feels is owed him -900 million Kenya shillings.

Governor Evans Kidero, at a press briefing on Thursday, also said says nine other buildings in the city, including those owned by state corporations, will  also auctioned.

Land buying companies in Ruai, Embakasi and Kasarani could also see their properties auctioned putting to risk thousands of owners who hold small pieces on allotment basis while the mother title is held by the company.

“Effective Monday, we will start registering our interest on all the pieces of land where rates remain outstanding. We will be selling an average of 10 properties per week,” said Governor Kidero.

When Prezzo Isn’t Flossing His Gold Ak47, This Is What He’s Doing (PHOTO)

Prezzo has been on quite the shopping spree and we have kept you informed about all the designer name brands he has been buying but he hasn’t only been on a buying spree and doing nothing else. He hasn’t just been putting it in the bag like The American dream sung on the Fabulous track.

The lad has been hard at work in the studio and I dare say that he is about to release some sure fire tracks that will light up the charts like his recent releases. Check him out hard at work at the studio with his designated producer attempting to master the track they have worked on together:

Grace Msalame’s Children Act In A School Christmas Carol. Check Out The Cute Photos Here (PHOTO)

Grace Msalame is one of Kenya’s female TV anchors with the highest profiles and with good reason. The lass is talented and just seems to have a knack for her job. But one thing anyone who has ever been in the same vicinity as her can tell you is that she is a proud mother.

She is proud of her daughters and her role as a mother. She comes off as a loving, caring and doting mother. And she was recently with her husband at a play that her daughters participated in and given the time of the year, it wouldn’t be too far fetched to say it involved the nativity scene.

And while there she took lots of pictures of both the play and her daughters after the play was done. She then posted the pictures of her cute daughter on social media and I have managed to get my grubby mitts on them.

Check out Grace Msalame’s cute daughters and aspiring actresses:

Aii Yawa Miss Karun

It’s not easy being an in-demand soulful pop star, and that can sometimes mean getting up at the crack of dawn. But when it’s an early alarm call to promote your new single, that alarm clock probably doesn’t seem that bad, as Karun found out for herself today.

This evening the former Camp Mulla star has unveiled their brand new song called ‘Aii Yawa’.

Karun features Kagwe Mungai and Fena and the track is off her first solo self-titled debut album, ‘Sun/Moon’.

Karun will be returning in early December to shoot the subsequent video. The song will be sent tomorrow morning, Friday 29th November 2013.

It will also be available for download via waabeh.com at noon tomorrow.
