Kantai drops a new track and it’s super hot. Have a listen

He might be coming slow, but he is definitely coming back to the music industry. Chris Kantai has been dropping tracks, one by one, in between long intervals. Mostly, he has just been collaborating with other rappers but now it seems he is ready to make an official come-back.

He has once again dropped a feel good track. The kind of track that would get you in an easy mood and still get your head bumping to the hip hop flow.

Personally, the only disappointment that Kantai has ever served is going M.I.A for a while. But like he said in one of his previous songs, he got issues just like everybody else. All his tracks have always been on point and this one is no exception.

Kanta’s new track is titled ‘Feel good’ and indeed, you will feel good after listening to this.

Have a listen to it right now, below.

The ‘Kissing bandit’ just got featured in ‘Japan on Top’

The Kissing bandit made his plight, and the ladies did not take to flight. Infact, as all the photos of him kissing them illustrate, they very much welcome the kisses that ‘the kissing bandit’ has to offer.

John Telewa is a man on a mission to get the most kisses and break the world record. His efforts have been recognised and applauded by many.

He has also been recognised by Japan’s huge website, ‘Japan on Top‘. They even made a video about him. This dude is like a role model to youths out there. Weird, huh?

Despite His Sex Scandal, Gospel Artist Willy Paul Nominated For Three Awards

Gospel artist Willy Paul has been a man under fire recently. After Pulse ran a story about him having sex with secular artist named Pendo, the media lit on fire with accusations and counter accusations about who did what when and where.

But after the dust has now settled, Willy Paul has gone on to be nominated for THREE Coast Awards at the same damn time! He has been nominated for:

MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

GOSPEL SONG OF THE YEAR and

SONG OF THE YEAR

Now the question remains, does controversy bring down celebs, or promote them to greater heights? I believe it actually promotes them, proof being these nominations above, and also the Avril case, where she swept so many awards the year after her naked pictures came out. But artists always get a fit when they get into these controversial cases. I don’t know, what do you guys think? Do controversies boost or bring down celebrities?

This weekend, Supremacy Sounds is doing it big in three different countries

It is the era of the deejays and they are the entertainers that seem to be making big money in the African entertainment industry, or better yet, in the Kenyan entertainment industry.

Supremacy Sounds have been around and about for the past couple of months, having shows all over the world. Getting their grind on. The only playing these guys are doing is on the decks, and they sure play good.

This weekend, Supremacy Sounds will be playing in three different countries. First, they will kick off the weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa with DJ Juan and MC Fullstop this Friday. They will then fly over to Dubai in time for the Rugby Sevens with P-Unit.

On Saturday, they will be heading back to Kenya for their usual Saturday show at Club Kikwetu.

Nothing like reggae music through out the week.

Feast Your Eyes On Homeboyz’s Magnificent Office (Part 1)

So last week I was at Homeboyz’s offices to meet some of my friends there. It was actually my first time there, and something that struck me was that it was much, MUCH bigger than I had originally imagined. They own an entire building guys. It’s that big.

I then thought, “Many other people must have this misconception about Homeboyz, right?” So I embarked on a mission to set the record straight.

Homeboyz is an entertainment conglomerate that has been in business for 20 years(since the early nighties) as you might know, they started out as a small DJ outfit, but now they have expanded into various other businesses, such as animation, radio, movies, audio production, and I hear they are now working on coming out with a TV station soon.

I went to do a photoshoot of the Homeboyz office, the first photoshoot with our brand new HD camera, and the place was so big, I took so many photos that I have to split up the story into several parts. So here is part one of the Homeboyz office, which showcases the audio and movie production floor.

Let’s start with the reception. The receptionist was a bit shy, so I could only get a sneak peek of her kisogo:

I’m going in!

Like I said, these offices are magnificent. Here’s concrete evidence:

Here is one of their classes from the production academy. Very artistic shot, wouldn’t you say?

We got into a production class with my tour guide, Alf Rabar. He got a bit engrossed, so we sat in the back:

Guys actually write notes and chop for this DJ ish. Hapana mucheso!

We then went to the DJ practice room. They’ve set it up to simulate a club setting:

I gave the decks a try. DJ Mr. Majani. How does that sound?

Back into the reception:

Cool story about that Homeboyz mascot(the “Homie”); they use it for endorsements! In fact, the Homie was Kenya’s first product placement endorsement, in a deal with Sprite:

Onto the first production room. Homeboyz are getting ready to release a bunch of new producers and artists. For now, everything is top secret, but watch out in Dec:

OK, I’ll give you a sneak preview: Their names are Versatile, Sappy, Clique and Miss Kendi. I got to listen to their tracks in the next production room below:

Alf Rabar (center) was so jazzed to hear their songs. He was bopping his head mbaya mbovu!

Men at work:

Another production room. This producer was working on a soundtrack for the UAP Insurance IPO launch(imagine!)

Onto the movie production room, where they were altering sounds for the first high-quality Nigerian movie I’ve ever seen.

The movie is called “The Meeting” it’s about the stress a man goes through just to get an appointment with a Nigerian minister.

Pay attention to the speakers in these shots. They are called GENELIC speakers, and are the only ones of their kind in Africa. The Homeboyz rep told me that they cost several million shillings a pop:

The next part of this tour is coming soon, where I will now go take photos of Homeboyz Radio and Homeboyz Animation

Presenting Radio’s Queens: Corporates Can’t Go Wrong With These Queens!

A while back i aggregated a list of Kenya’s top radio personalities. Unfortunately, that list had very few women. but i’m back to correct that with this list right here.

This is a list of Kenya’s radio queens and hopefully you’ll agree with my take on all of them. But whichever way you lean, let me know!

#10. Mwalimu Rachel -Home Boyz Radio

<photo from Facebook>

This is the lass that holds it down on HBR from 1 -2- 3. Gerrit? She hold the afternoon session and refers to it as class and the teacher gets mad love from her students who text in or tweet their requests for songs. She has a fun voice that lightens up anyone’s mood. the best time to listen to her is right after being paid and you’re thinking of going out. Her demographic is young, mainly college and uni kids and she has that on lock lock! She even has a tv music mix show on KBC!

#9. Kanana -Ghetto Radio

why is this former househelp on the list? Simply because of her reach. Her reach is wide and as i explained earlier, reach is a big deal. her being on Ghetto radio means she reaches more Nairobi and indeed Kenyan youth than any other radio personality on this list. Need to push condoms or sex ed? She’s your girl!

#8. Joey Muthengi -Capital FM

<image from Joey Muthengi’s Facebook page>

Well, now that we’ve officially surpassed rankings -he says with a rather huge grin on his face! But moving on swiftly Joey Muthengi hosts Capital Fm’s hit show Hits Not Homework which was popularised by Eve d’Souza. That means she had the daunting task of filling Eve’s shoes but she did so so marvelously that one is hard placed to remember Hits Not Homework without Joey Muthengi on the show. She owned the show completely and i take my hat off to her for that achievement.

So influential is she amongst urban school going kids and college peeps alike that Kisima tapped her to host the event for them.

#7. Angela Angwenyi

<image from bazanye.wordpress>

This lady right here has earned her strips in radio entertainment and she has the influence to prove it. When i first heard that she’d been hired by Easy and partnered with Kwach, i expected her to be entirely flummoxed by him but she held her own and they have such radio chemistry!

She seems to know both how to hold it down on her own and pair up with a partner. She even writes for Zuqka… That is Angwenyi in a packet of chips.

#6. Tina Kaggia -One FM

TINA_KAGIA_HOT.jpg

This is the lass that holds it down for One FM! Other than her, the most prolific one FM radio personality is Bamzigi but he’s called it a day at One FM. Don’t get me wrong, there are alot of great radio presenters on their roster but Tina just stands out. She does the One Active show which is a mid morning show and she has the youngins locked on this time slot.

Why is she golden? She can sell anything in her flirtatious borderline naughty voice. Plus she gets all the real entertainment scoops… Wonder where she gets them from. Hmmm…

#5. Sheila Mwanyigah -Easy FM

This would be the lady of radio. Calm, collected, smooth and sensual in a grown and sexy sort of context. She has a voice that you can’t help but pay attention to… The lads know what i’m getting at. The type of sultry voice that could convince an Eskimo to buy ice!

#4. Cess Mutungi -Capital FM

cess.jpg

This lady would be the exact opposite of Sheila Mwanyigah. She is loud, boisterous and chatty. She is the type to tell you to get something and you would simply because you can’t help but trust open people. She has Capital on lock and it’s because of her that they even feature so high up this list. She is the lass who always hangs out with the lads for drinks and footy and somehow became the resident Oprah. That type of lass even Uncle Chim Tuna would trust with his life!

#3. Kalekye Mumo -Classic FM

KALEKYE_MUMO.jpg

Even though she called the Ghafla all Stars cabbages, i can’t begrudge her what’s her’s and that’s a slot in the top 3 radio queens. She has an infectious laugh, bogus insults and an endearing persona about her. She and Cess Mutungi would make quite the radio pairing! She is the type of lass you trust because you just can’t bring yourself to questioning her honour… Quite the opposite of her co-host. i guess that’s why they work so well together!

#2. Ciku Muiruri -Classic Fm

Women believe Ciku has their backs busting errant husbands left right and centre and they trust her implicitly and without question. Want to sell a product to women, Ciku comes second only to one other lass on this list. Although, she once said she couldn’t believe the fact that we’d taken one of her facebook updates about being a second wife seriously… i wonder whether we can take her number 2 billing on this list seriously… we should probably ask her that…

#1. Caroline Mutoko -Kiss FM

This lady is what you would expect to turn most listeners off; haughty, rude and no nonsense. yet these are the same qualities that have amassed for her an audience anyone else on this list would be envious of. she has the “modern” 30-45 year old women by the uhm… purse strings. When she tells them to jump, they ask how high. she is the absolute golden standard in marketing because these women have money to burn (or want to look like they have money) and want to prove just how independent they are.

Don’t get me wrong, she’s doing alot to empower women but when it comes to the shillings, this part of her demographic is all that matters!

In a terrible accident, Ian Mugoya almost lost his life last year (photos). He now celebrates his birthday

It is funny how we can get through the hardest of times and situation, yet still wake up every morning to live another day. This should never be taken for granted. Ian Mugoya learned this the hard way.

Exactly a year back, Straight Up presenter Ian Mugoya was involved in a terrible car accident that almost blinded him, if not killed him. He survived through the life threatening ordeal and has been seeing life from a different angle since then.

He now celebrates his birthday. To think that last year at a time like this you were all up in stitches, Ian Mugoya, we at Ghafla! wish you a blessed and happy birthday. May you live longer.

Big time Nigerian producer, Don Jazzy to expand record label to East Africa

This is good news. Especially for the artistes. This is that kind of opportunity that would get an artist from the ‘local’ status, all the way to big time ‘international’ status.

Nigerian big time producer, Don Jazzy, the guy behind the escalation of great West African artistes like D’Banj and P Square, might just be expanding his works all the way to East Africa. With all the talent here, there is about to be an explosion of stars.

Though this is not fully confirmed yet, word is that he is actually trying to make this happen.

You might be wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, Kenya’s ‘record labels’, as our producers like to call them, are actually just recording studios/houses.

What a record label does is far more than what Kenyan ‘record labels’ do. Managing, pushing, getting shows for artistes, creating a relevant character for a specific artiste, all that comes with being a real record label. The kinds that pick up an artiste and turn him/her into a huge international star. That is a Record label.

That is what Don Jazzy is trying to be home. Big, huh?

AT LAST: Jua Cali Becomes A Father

Jua Cali and his long term girlfriend and/or fiancee, Lizz Munyu(pictured) have finally brought forth a child unto this earth. After a long-term engagement with Lizz for almost three years, where various reports had them breaking up and coming back together again repeatedly.

Well, according to our reliable sources in the event organising community, Lizz gave birth to a bouncing baby boy earlier this month. They named him Vitalis Imani.

Congratulations on your new arrival, Jua Cali, and all the best moving forward.

Caroline Mutoko warns against the culprit who’s been coning her fans using her name

Kiss FM presenter Caroline Mutoko has taken matters into her own hands and has come out to enlighten her fans on the shenanigans that has been going on, leaving many played and conned.

Apparently, some conman/con-woman has been using Caroline Mutoko’s email, promising people jobs and eventually getting them to surrender their money in its pursuit.

Caroline made it clear that she is currently not offering any jobs and that she is definitely not a part of any of the offers going round with her name.

This is what she had to say about it,

“It’s come to my attention once again that you are still happily giving money to people who are promising you jobs in my name. Stop it.

Anyone telling you that is a conman/con-woman.

The culprit in question uses the name Mr Wisdom Aseka on 0707883835 and uses the e-mail address caro-mutoko@yahoo.com

I don’t solicit funds for any charity, foundation or home in Kibera or Mathare or ANY PART OF KENYA. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again – there are no jobs in exchange for any money at Radio Africa – not on-air, not anywhere.

The person he tried to con has gone to the police.
This is the third time this year I’m sending out this alert.
Let your friends know – be careful.”

Jalang’o gives his touching, yet hilarious piece on the matatu strike situation

For those who don’t own a car, I know exactly what you are going through. It is hell. I actually have no idea how I’ll be getting home tonight as I type down this article.

Jalang’o, had this to say to his fans today morning through his facebook profile. Read carefully.

“Yes i have a car and i drove to work this morning..i drove below 80km per hour,it was still dark so my headlights were on….my insurance is updated and my seat belts were on! i made sure i kept my lane and dint drive on the pavement but more so i was sober……Yes i know you walked to work this morning because you haven’t been blessed with a car yet..i know and pray that you get one soon… you got to work late and the boss warned you and you risk loosing your job but worse you are tired and you still don’t know how you will go home….let me tell you you cant compare what you are going through with what might have happened this morning…this morning you would have boarded a bus in Githurai…To psyche himself for the day driver takes a shot of some illicit brew..then steps on the gas..you don’t have your belts on and the makanga is dangerously dangling on the door…the speed in this 60 seater bus is now at 140km|h and in the cockpit is a drunkard! you are lucky you make it past Ruaraka and the traffic slows you down..the driver decides that you are in a hurry and decides to overlap but everyone has been overlapping so he cant move and he decides to take a u turn on the highway to try change lane…….you know what follows after this! 3000 people die every year on our roads,3000 people half of them are breadwinners that translates to more than 1000k families left in the cold……I SUPPORT THE NEW LAWS! IF THEY ARE EXPENSIVE, THE BETTER,YOU WILL BEHAVE WELL SO AS NOT TO PAY…IF YOU’VE NEVER LOST A FAMILY MEMBER IN AN ACCIDENT THEN SHUT UP! REST IN PEACE DAD!”

Pulse Writer Smitta Smitten Tears Into Brenda Wairimu, Marya And Other Female Celebrities!

Pulse’s Smitta Smitten has been set loose and like a dog with a bone, there is no relenting!

This time he’s been set loose on kenya’s top female celebrities such as Marya, Brenda Wairimu, Avril and socialite Huddah Monroe. And in what starts off as an almost innocuous piece, he begins by discussing a recent survey that looked into Kenyan women’s sexual habits in regards to safe sex.

And that bit of the article was brilliant by my humble estimates because he found a way top touch on a sensitive near taboo topic and make it cool… Then he degenerated. He begun to discuss female celebrity figures and sex lives and other trivial subject matters best left to idle yobs jamming in their estates discussing every lass that passes.

Here’s what he said about each of the ladies:

Marya

Marya just gone <got> thrown out of Kits <Kitisuru> (rumour has it, nothing confirmed) by some cheddared chuda she was allegedly swinging lungulaz to and landed back in our hood of “B” like an asteroid crashin to earth to wipe dinasours. Blah blah blah… <boring bits> …But like a pick up truck on mawes, she’s just gotten bigger n now kaas like she lies back on her haunches and sez lazily “Sawa!”

So basically this yob is enjoying her personal problems and seeing her go through strife on the personal front and like a mean 13yr old girl, he’s laughing at the fact that she is reportedly gaining weight. Yep, this right here is just how deep the article got… You’d think right? Nay, he sunk lower… Kenyan Post would be proud of today’s article!

Pendo

If you don’t know Pendo by now, then you live under a rock and you have a slug for a neighbour… kind of like an African version of Spongebob Squarepants. Pendo is the lass who was embroiled in a scandal just a few weeks ago that was created and amplified by the Facebook page “Nairobi Exposed” which dolls out sewer effluent by the litres! Anyway, after going in on a rather funny Arsenal rant, he dismissed her by saying thus, “Pendo bado hajaiva. Kidogo naona ni mjuaji.” Oh, i forgot, that was how he closed, his first missive was “Pendo yuko na sura ya… Kwetu ushago.”

Straight up, everyone just needs to leave this lass alone. I have seen the toll the rumours about her and Willy Paul have taken on her and seriously, it’s not funny. This is an innocent girl that someone decided out of sheer malice and a soul that only Beelzebub would be proud of decided to slander. The Willy Paul and Pendo story is as fake as a 300/- shilling note! Leave the scum on Nairobi Exposed to the milk maids too stupid to discern between bull*defecate* and cow teats!

Brenda Wairimu

Brenda-9.jpg

This was by far the creepiest part of his piece. He more or less fantasized about her… Exhibitionist much? And i’m honestly left wondering why he keeps going after Brenda who is an awesome person. Last time he called her Jezebel and Delilah in one breathe and today he says and i quote, But i spekt tis like one of those action flicks Shirley Genge writes about, “The visuals were stunning but the achshun was no <ho> hum””.

Avril

AVRIL.jpg

Here he brought up Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton ill fated Airforce 1 flight in the Oval Office and alluded it to Avril. Then he started again with the sexual references, “So I think Avriliski is like super freakie, like you can duo wit her on a wimbo dat go ” “Menage a trois ma repertoire!”…

Uhm… I highly doubt any woman let alone Avril wants to be compared to Monica Lewinsky… Then again, what do i know, i’m just a bothersome blogger!

Huddah Monroe

HUDDAH_LOLLIPOP.jpg

This was by far the worst of them all… Well, it was atleast a tie between her and Marya. he didn’t even deign it fit to mention her name directly but rather to compare her to Size 8 then tear at her. Here’s what he said, if dat not Size 8 then “who dat who dat?” Certainly not Huddah, the socialite who just coz ya a hood-rat on the loose don’t mean you got the motion sis.

Ouch! I don’t know Huddah but even i felt the zinger on that one! And this is now beginning to sound like the tale of a spurned lover lashing out from behind a laptop screen then sending the insulting piece to print! Tony Mochama, that would mean that you and alot of the bloggers you hit out at as bothersome have alot in common!

Smitta, now your dede Chim Tuna has a word of advice, sit on this here my lap-o and hold am ears goodo goodo so you hear, “Nibling, get off the creepy sex offender tip. Fantasizing about what sex would be like with a lass in public puts you in the sexual slug category! Bleurgh! You are too smart to be a creep!”

The Video For Daddy Owen And Miss Karun’s Collabo Is Finally Out!

Daddy Owen, Miss Karun, Denno, Danny, Wyre and Emmy Kosgei recently released a mega-collabo called ‘Twende Kazi.’ This is Miss Karun’s first gospel track, but she is known for being a very religious girl(mtoto mzuri 😉 who has been brought up by strict parents. She’s flaunting her nose ring for the first time on video though. Don’t know what people will make of that.

Wyre also came aboard to add some riddim flava to the mix.

The video was directed by super-producer Robert Kamanzi, aka Rkay. He elected to go with subtitles throughout the whole video, which will help people learn the lyrics faster, I guess. Denno, the blind pianist, makes an appearance donning stunners this time around.

All the artists seem to be in an indoor studio, while the subplot of the video is to show disabled people overcoming their difficulties.

In the first scene, we can see a deaf girl being the only one in her class, being taught English in sign language by her teacher. Inspiring.

We can also see Daddy Owen signing with a deaf kid at one point.

Next scene is an albino looking for a job at a corporate firm and being accepted by the guys over there.

Then we have a bunch of autistic kids who dance with the celebs as they sing. All in all a very refreshing theme of video. Check it out for yourself below:

Yet Another Illuminati Song Released By A Kenyan Artist

This guy is now officially the new king of controversy in Kenya’s music scene.

SHOCKING: Kenyan Rapper Releases A Song With Clear Illuminati Connotations

Raj is an artist who just thrives in the hot seat. Just look at his tracklist:

1. The first song he submitted to us was called ‘Blood Bars. That song had clear illuminati connotations in the following lines:

Seal Of Solomon Make a n***er wise.”

I’m a triple six threat.”

I see dead people, dead people I swear.”

Bird , nine, eleven

Get Delilah, Angel Michael on the board.”

Ever since I lost my sister, I done been seeing dead bodies, demons and evils.”

2. Then he came out with his second controversial song, called ‘Jeff Koinange,’ which was talking about how Jeff came back from rape accusations that were levelled against him.

Then now Raj has come out with a track called F**K Illuminati! This is his SECOND song with Illuminati connotations. He’s brought in Kapella on the track. The question that remains is, the way Raj insists on singing about this Illuminati topic, is he part of the secret society or not? Analyze his words in the “F**K Illuminati” song below and find out:

Alaine’s 2nd Kenya Concert Moved Up To Next Month!

A few weeks back, we reported that Alaine was going to be coming to Kenya next year for the Wild Love Festival. Well, news reaching our offices is that things have now changed. Grace Kerongo tells us that the concert has moved up to next month.

Two things have changed:

1. Since she and Wyre did a collabo, they want to shoot it ASAP.

2. Samsung are launching a new phone, the Galaxy Music, and they want Alaine to be part of their campaign.

Alaine will be jetting in on December 6 ahead of the December 11 concert to unveil the Galaxy Music phone. Wyre will also take this opportunity to perform their song LIVE for the very first time.

Be there or be square!

Jaguar Buys A Fleet Of Matatus

Jaguar, one of the most entrepreneurial musicians in Kenya, has invested his money again, this time going into the matatu business. Last week, he released his own Nissan vans onto the streets of Nairobi.

He told our source, “I have moved into the transport sector. My sister is the one who will be taking care of the matatu business. This is a way of creating employment.”

Remember that Jaguar also has a taxi business called Jagz cabs, and a garage for pimping out cars. Seems he has a thing for the transportion industry. Well, my family also once had a ka-small matatu business once, and from my experience, it’s a tough one. The matatu sector is very informal, with drivers and conductors exchanging vans throughout the day. Also, policemen target them a lot for fines, and when they do fine matatu drivers, they don’t issue a receipt or anything. This allows for a loophole where the driver of the matatu can just invent a story that he has been caught by cops so many times in a day that they could not make a profit. Very frustrating. Also the many accidents and maintenance issues just made the whole mat biz a big headache for my family.

BUT, hopefully Jaguar can find a way of overcoming all these hurdles. All the best to him. What do you think of his latest move? Leave your interesting or creative responses in the comment section below.

Sara Mitaru Only Does One Gig Per Year. Here’s Why

Apparently, Afro fusion singer Sara Mitaru only does one, yes ONE, show per year, on purpose!

She told our source that she only does one gig per year to give her a whole year to surprise her audience. This year, her backup singers are going to fly in from all the way in the USA to perform with her during her show. She spares no expense when doing her exclusive concert. She wants that international flavour to it.

This year, her only show will be on the 8th of December at the Louise Leakey Auditorium, Nairobi. The show will only sell a limited number of tickets to a select audience. “I want the fans to feel as if they are seated in New York or London at a world standard show,” Sara said.

Bernsoft Wages An All Out War On Music Pirates

Bernsoft has widened the war against music piracy by enlisting support from the Kenya Copyright Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for those pirating from outside Kenya. Hilarious! Eric Omondi cracks up fans in London (video)

There is no limit to Eric Omondi’s humor. He has proved it time and time again in every show that he has made an appearance in. He could just be the king of stand up comedy if the likes of Churchil Ndambuki and Jalang’o did not exist.

Recently, Eric Omondi was invited to the Barclays Pignit Application Launch that took place in London . The launch was a success and Eric Omondi added the icing to the cake.

Honestly, this guy just has a way of bringing out the sense of humor in you. No matter how deep it is.

Check out this video of the event and see Eric Omondi at his best.

Get with Deejays Kaytrixx, Creme, and Bonez at this Bikini Beach Party

It is official. The biggest bikini beach party is about to go down. These are those kinds of party you really don’t want to miss. Hearing about all the epic times from your friends is really lame and disappointing. Trust me. I’ve been through it.

That should be enough reason for any Nairobian to pack and set up a road trip with his pals to Mombasa (that is if you are not attending the huge Jah Cure concert).

The Bikini Beach Party will be going down at the Big Tree Beach Hotel this Saturday (1st December 2012) from 9AM till dawn.

Gate charges are Sh. 300 per head.

Here is the juicy part… all the ladies in bikinis, wrapped up in a Kanga or leso will get free entry. If you’ll not be in your bikini, don’t worry, changing rooms are available at the entrance.

Kenyan International TV Icon Called Testicles?

So apparently, Rachel Marete’s name in some Southern African dialects translates to a section of male genitalia…

And i’m trying not to laugh as i write this up. This article was inspired by a piece i read done by my close personal friend Kevin Oyugi whose piece alerted me to a status update she posted on her facebook fan page.

And according to the lass, she has been recieving alot of correspondence from her South African fans alerting her to the fact and just as any graceful Kenyan lady would, she took it gracefully, laughed it off and moved on. Here’s how she handled the whole affair:

Dear, Southern Africans. Thank you to all those of you who’ve pointed out to me that my surname means “testicles” in your language. (Hahaha!) I want you to know that I appreciate the info and that it actually makes me love my name so much more! I mean, how rad is that? Gotta love languages of the world. It also makes me happier to know that I made someone smile for the mere fact that I wear that name with pride and honor. However, I’m kinda tired of weekly messages about it so here’s to hoping that this status settles that. Cheers! XOXO PS: To my extended family… Well, now you know! Hahaha! Have a great day/ night wherever you may be everyone! Remember to smile and find humor as much as possible.”

And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, signing off, it’s Transit TV’s Rachel Testicles, i mean Rachel Marete signing off. Peace and love!

Raving In Lang’ata: Offroad, A Tale Of Raw Sewage And Fun!

Over the weekend half of the Ghafla All Stars and I went out to enjoy our weekend.

Well, actually, more like we started indoors; Ghafla World Offices to be more specific. And from here, we moved on to a couple of joints finally ending up at Off Road Lang’ata. The ambience was electric. The lasses were dressed to the nines, the lads were just your usual under dressed Kenyan yobs but the atmosphere was party atmosphere at it’s finest!

The designated driver Fox (who always seems to come up short -always being designated driver- was impressed to the point of comparing Off Road to Volar… Riiiiight!

Anyway, our night of revelry begun! first off, the bouncers are of the greedy variety. they asked even me for a bribe because the establishment only allows 25 year old in… I’m 24 for the love of sunshine! And you know I don’t bribe my way into anywhere! We got in and found the place at capacity! So we had to find a place to jam outside the club itself.

After the usual routine of saying hi to friends and catching up (met Patrick and he’s doing fine thanks for asking) a friend of the company’s showed me a sight that blew my mind away… Bobo showed me that Off Road has a sewerage problem! And guys didn’t mind the stench! Actually some drunken lout was comfortable sitting right atop the lid and it was overflowing with human defecate!

<image courtesy of wataugarepubs.com>

So much for your Volar comparison Fox! Some drunk even started playing in the stream of effluent like little children do to the chagrin of everyone around him! picture if you will, an under dressed adult kicking and splashing around in sewer discharge. And that is the point at which I decided to call it a night!

We left everyone else to enjoy their uhm… sewage induced drunken stupor.

The venue for the earlier communicated Electrafrique one-year anniversary party has now been moved from Tree House to Club Volar. The event will feature performances by DJ Cortega, Electrafrique DJs, The Beat Parade and Muthoni DQ.

Below is the statement from the organizers:

Electrafrique Nairobi hereby notifies all our friends and fans of a change of venue to Club Volar for our one-year anniversary party scheduled for Saturday, 1st December.

This has been occasioned by communication reaching us that upon extension of their term to 31st Dec 2012, the current (outgoing) management of Tree House Club Nairobi has opted not to honour the commitment of the in-coming management team to host our event.

While condemning this malicious and unprofessional behaviour in the strongest terms possible, the show MUST GO ON and CLUB VOLAR will graciously and ably host the ELECTRAFRIQUE ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSSARY PARTY from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday 1st December, 2012.”

Woman Disguised in Buibui Caught on Camera Shoplifting (video)

There was drama at a supermarket in Mombasa when a woman disguised in a buibui was busted stealing perfumes. It all started when she walked into the store like any other customer but she had a different motive.

According to a shop attendant, the woman committed the crime oblivious of the CCTV cameras in the store. The attendant also added that he recognized the woman since it was not her first time to steal from the store and when he accosted her she admitted that in deed it was her. It’s said the she had hidden the fragrances under her buibui to evade suspicion.

Check out the behind-the-scenes footage of the making of Nonini and Annette’s ‘Pole Pole’ video?

This is the party song that has been getting everyone in the weekend mood as early as Monday. Nonini thought right to bring over the beautiful Annete in this feel good track, ‘Pole Pole’.

The choreographer worked well with the dancers and this shows clearly through the uniformity they display.

The video has been out for a while now and so has the behind-the-scenes footage. Not so many of you know what it takes to make a video like this, so, with no further ado, check out the making of the video below.

Madtraxx’s hottest performance yet, at the Fahrenheit (video)

He is recognised as the super producer, super DJ and super MC across East Africa. Madtraxx has done all that needs to be done in the music industry.

He is among the most sought after Kenyan performer, among other great artistes like Redsan and Juliani. When this guy touches the stage, it’s straight up fireworks. The revellers at the Farehnheit Concert a some few months ago bore witness to his electrifying show. All play goes down to work for this guy.

His Farehnheit performance, according to moi, is the best I have witnessed from him so far. Thus why I am really looking forward to December’s edition of the Blankets and Wine, where he will be touching stage.

Check out his Farehnheit performance in the video below.
