After BBA, What Next For Prezzo?! He Answers

Prezzo jetted back into the country this week after spending three months in the claustrophobic enviroment that was the Big Brother Stargame house. In his press conference, he was asked about what he has in store for fans in the future.

“Well, you know I have Makini Music Group. Trying to help young guys who do not have the facilities to record music. We’re looking for talent, so there’s a lot more in store,” the MMG founder said.

About One Campaign, “I haven’t received a call from them since I left the house. But I basically won the challenge in the house, where we were asked to come up with a slogan for a campaign to help young guys get into farming. My slogan, Farmer Swagger, was picked as the best one. So, I’m looking forward to working on that with them.”

Behind-the-scenes At Kidum’s (King of YouTube) Upcoming Video

Kidum was recently in the U.S. for a performance and promote his music among his diasporan fans. He is now back in the country and ready to release new music. The singer recently released a behind-the-scenes video for his upcoming single, Kimbia.

Kidum started out in a band at the age of 12. He is one of the highest rated live band performers in the country. He has performed locally from bands to huge concerts, including the Tusker Project Fame reality TV show.

Earlier this year, Kidum reached a milestone. His Haturudi Nyuma video, in which he features Ugandan singer and Tusker Project Fame judge Juliana Kanyomozi, is one of the biggest hits in the region in terms of popularity. The video recently crossed a million views on YouTube.

Kimbia was directed by one of the most popular video directors in the country, especially in the gospel music industry. Check out the behind-the-scenes video below.

Do You Know What It was Like In The BBA House?

BBA star game is over aye?

But have you ever wondered what it was like being in the house? Take a journey with me down a lane constructed by an overactive imagination. Picture yourself if you will, stuck in a house with uptio 10 people you don’t know.

The only thing you know about these individuals is that they are competing with you for a 300,000$ prize. that means you can’t trust them and they can’t trust you. Your paranoia gets amplified!

Then as you attempt to get to know these characters and navigate through the minefield that is misplaced and transferred emotions, one of them betrays you. What happens if two or three of them conspire to betray you openly? Can you imagine the open animosity that would result?

And now imagine your freedom of movement being restricted to within the confines of the house. I don’t know about you but i’m already becoming antsy. The thought of only being able to walk around the compound isn’t appealling.

And what if you get a crazy roomie or worse… An attention seeking roommate?

And with all this, Prezzo lasted 90 days! A cool 90 days! Give the lad respect!

WOAH! So Keagan isn’t the winner after all? Prezzo finally gets his wish

Keagan left the BBA house a happy and proud man. Who can blame him? I would also be as proud if I had just won myself $300, 000 in cash. Hell, I would even get everyone in my site free drinks.

Turns out that that is half the case. Keagan did win the money, but that is just about it. If you can remember well, there was another ‘price’ at stake between Keagan and Seidou… TALIA. Seidou dumped Talia as soon as he saw her having sex with Keagan. That was the end of it, at-least according to Talia, that is.

Well, on the night of the BBA Finale, tables were turned. Turns out that Talia still had strong feelings for Seidou and actually regrets having romantic moments with Keagan. Isn’t this the same girl who said that she was ready to get serious with Keagan? Hmmmm.

She visited Seidou in his hotel room and the two had a secret talk (at-least that’s what she thinks). Talia begged Seidou to take him back, with tears in her eyes. Meanwhile, Seidou was secretly taking photos with his phone and recording everything.

He does hold grudges, doesn’t he? Anyway, serves her right. He went further to post screen shots of text messages of a later conversation, and even photos of the discussion through his twitter account (@Seydou_Official).

During an argument between Prezzo and Keagan while still in the house, Prezzo stated clearly that Talia belongs with Seidou. He finally gets his wish. This is however, very messed up and enjoyable at the same time.

This is what to expect at the Tarrus Riley concert this Saturday

I just figured that I should show you what you are in for, should you attend this coming concert.

Tarrus Riley is one of the best and vibrant performers to ever come out of Jamaica and I am not just saying that because we will be interviewing him on that night, but simply because he is that good. Honestly.

Check out this performance and tell me otherwise… I dare you.

Take a look at Jaguar’s behind the scenes coverage of ‘Matapeli’

Ever since the video to the song ‘Matapeli’ was released, a lot of talk has been going on about the involvement of the Makadara MP, Gedion Mbuvi ‘Sonko’.

Guys have been wondering whether Jaguar will soon be joining politics and time after time, his answer to this burning question has always been, “NO!”

When I first saw this video and saw Sonko dressed in fake dreadlocks, in the middle of the CBD, in slippers and shorts, brushing off dust off of someone’s shoes, all I could say to myself was, “damn, I would really like to see the behind the scenes footage of all this.”

Now, we can all do just that. Check out the BTS of the ‘Matapeli’ video below.

Prezzo’s homecoming party is finally here

We watched him play the game as a real Kenyan would and even though he didn’t win the BBA game, he made us proud by going that far. If you have been keen on the past BBA seasons, you would know that Kenyans have never made it that far and so, Prezzo, we are more than proud of you.

It is in his honor that we will be partying the night away tomorrow (10Th August) at the Carnivore Simba Saloon.

We will be celebrating his efforts to represent Kenya, and at the same time, celebrate Kenya’s general achievements as Kenyans.

You have no reason at all to miss this considering that even Tarrus Riley himself will be attending this Kenyan night to show his support for our beautiful country.

Come congradulate the ‘Prezzident’ in style. Dress code… just dress like a star.

Prezzo Thanks Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta & Rachel Shebesh For Their Support

How amazing was it that Kenya’s biggest policitians rallied behind Prezzo when he was in the Big Brother house? First it was Rachel Shebesh, who said that her son had inspired her to vote for the Prezzident.

Then Raila Odinga himself joined the #TeamPrezzo bandwagon. He urged Kenyans to vote for our compatriot via SMS, and posted up a picture of him voting himself. Uhuru Kenyatta then  tried to woo Prezzo after he came back from South Africa recently.

In an interview on CapitalFM radio today with Cess MUTUNGI, Prezzo gave thanks to all the policitians who supported him, and called Shebesh out by name. He said, “I really appreciate the support they showed me. I have never felt like a child of Kenya like I do right now.”

Pre-Teen Artiste Who Started Performing Since Age Four Returns to Kenya

David Hermlin was born to a Kenyan mother and German further. He comes from a family of famous artists. His grandfather was a famous writer in the days of the German Democratic Republic. His father Andrej Hermlin is a successful Jazz artiste, Andrej Hermlin and owner of Swing Dance Orchestra, a famous orchestra.

David started his journey in music at the age of three when he started playing drums. At age four, he made his first stage appearance alongside his father. At five, he was already taking dance lessons. In the coming years, he continued performing in stages around the world: Italy, Switzerland and the U.S.

He later learnt to play piano with the help of a teacher. Over the years, he has spent plenty of time in Kenya and soon enough, he started recording in the country. His parents contacted Dr. Eddie, the 2010 Producer of the Year Groove Award winner. The result is Perfect Paradise, a song where David speaks about the poverty he has seen people living in in Kenya. The video was also directed by Dr. Eddie, check it out below.

Prezzo: “I Wish I Was In Keagan’s Shoes”

The champagne was ready to pop. Kenya finally had a representative on the final show of Big Brother. For the first time, Kenya had the opportunity to vote for a winner that was their own instead of constantly trying to save one from eviction.

With each name being called out, Prezzo got closer and closer to the prize. Just as everyone was about to celebrate, Keagan won. There was furor on the online networks when Keagan was announced as the winner. It seemed like everyone was against the decision.

But the question is, what does Prezzo himself think of the loss? He was asked the question during his recent press conference and it seems the rapper is over it already. “A South African has never won. Keagan won because it was destiny. From the beginning, it was just for them to win. I’m not a sore loser, but I wish I was in his shoes right now.”

The anniversary of the 1998 August 7Th bomb blast just passed two days ago. Kenya has been through an awful lot since then, especially the families that lost their loved ones in this terrorist act of cowardice.

It is with this in mind that we commemorate this day, as well as the International Youth Day, with a Peace Concert. The concert dubbed, ‘Choose Peace Concert’ will be happening on the 12Th of August 2012 at the August 7Th Memorial Park.

This event is all about the youths doing their bit in standing up against violence and promoting peace. Kenyans Drink 600 MILLION Litres of Alcohol Per Year. We Love To Party

(Article written by Ndinda from pesatalk.com, our sister website)

A Deutsch Bank Market research has listed Kenya as Africa’s third largest beer consumer, with its market share at 17 per cent of the continent’s. Kenya comes closely behind Nigeria and South Africa who hold 36 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.   The results were part of a report based on Diageo’s sales in Africa. Diageo, which operates through its subsidiary East African Breweries Ltd ( EABL), controls roughly 90 per cent of the beer market in Kenya.  An earlier market study by Euromonitor had listed EABL as the leading beer company in Kenya, holding an 83% volume share in 2011.

According to the Deutsch Bank Market research, tax revenues are an important indicator in the beer business, with Kenya Revenue Authority’s data showing that the beer industry accounts for just under five per cent of Kenyan government revenues.

The bludgeoning middle class, the study says, is one of the contributing factors to the growth in the beer market in Africa.  The rapidly growing middle class in Africa is now a target by companies, with around 60 million consumers having an income of over $3,000 a year and are expected to grow to 100 million by 2015.

The sustained expansion economies in Africa have also played a key role in the growth of the beer market, pushing more people into the middle class bracket. “As wealth increases, legal beer consumption generally increases and in Africa there is a huge opportunity to trade consumers up from the informal segment or home brew into the branded sector and then to international premium beers,” a statement in the report reads.

An earlier report on the beer market in Kenya showed that Kenyans consumed 601 million litres of alcohol in 2011, 30 million litres more than what was consumed in 2010. It also predicted a consumption of 625 litres of alcohol this year. In money terms, Euromonitor International and China Market Research said that Kenyans consumed KES 182 billion worth of alcohol last year compared to KES 165 billion in 2010. This earlier report had attributed the rise in consumption to non-malt beer tax cuts that made alcohol more affordable, and the fact that Kenyans were obligated to drink more from the comfort of their homes due to the  ”Mututho” laws.

GHAFLA EXCLUSIVE: PREZZO THANKS JAGUAR!

I just had a sit down with the King of Bling himself and it was a frank one.

I spoke to His Imperial Freshness about topics ranging from BBA to Jaguar. And when i informed the King of Bling that Jaguar had set the beef aside to ask his fans to vote for Prezzo, he actually thanked Jaguar.

I never in a thousand years expected this turn of events and maybe i might be ever the optimist but i’m hoping these two bastions of Kenyan talent i will bury the hatchet and get onto a track together. Just imagine how big that would be.

And Prezzo didn’t just say a rushed thank you, in his fashion: cool, calm and collected, he thanked Jaguar by name and then proceeded to thank everyone who voted for him! That is what we call handling issues like a boss

Prezzo to go after Goldie

Ever since emotional Goldie was evicted from the BBA house, fans have been speculating about the future of the Goldezzo relationship. Judging from how Prezzo was acting while still in the house, you’d say that there is absolutely no future at all for these two love birds.

WRONG! All that was just a game and everybody was either acting or just had a strategy. Prezzo was doing none of the above. He was just being himself, according to him. He however made it clear during this morning’s Press Conference, stating that he did not know if Goldie was a genuine person, thus the reason for holding back.

“When I was in the house, I didn’t know if Goldie was a genuine person, but now I’ll try to find that out,” Prezzo said at his press conference this morning.

This can only mean one thing, Prezzo is going after his lost love… the one that escaped. I’m eager to see how this turns out.

TOP 5 HOTTEST FEMALE ARTISTS TO WATCH OUT FOR!

Have you often wondered who the new generation of female artists are represented by?

Well, I had an interesting convo with the rest of the team about female artists and the verdict was that lasses aren’t as hungry for the glory as their male counterparts. And though that is  bound to have the feminist brigade up in arms bra in hand, it must be said: no nuts no glory.
But there are a couple of female artists who are doing their dirt! Afterall “amat victoria curam” (victory loves preparation) and these young lasses are the official Queens of the Cool Kidz no questions asked!
They are drawn from diverse backgrounds and genres with some being an unsigned hype artist (underground artist) but their pedigree is undeniable. These lasses are that Nefertiti pedigree.
They are beautiful, talented and smart and that is the triple threat combination that when used well creates stars in their own right! But without further hyping, i present to you:
BUBBLING UNDER:
Laikkah
This lass is still working on her debut track but trust me when i say that she can rap! I have heard alot of female “rappers” but she is an actual rapper. I await her debut and trust me, it will be about that business!

And now, i need everyone: established artists especially, their managers and their producers to sit up and pay attention like it’s rent. These Queens of the Cool Kidz WILL be taking over in about a minute because they are versatile and multi-talented.

#5 Chuchu
This is the lass that was on Jimmy Gait’s track “Oley Oley” and her vocal range was simply beautiful. She was composed, regal even and she helped the boys create a wonderful gospel track. Unlike most of her gospel contemporaries, she doesn’t screech. She has wonderful technic and has mastered her range so she doesn’t push too hard.
{youtube}TAGJQq93Pw4{/youtube}

#4 Lyra Aoko
This is a beautiful nne. This girl is the epitome of dark African sensuality and to top it all up, she is a talented nightingale with a voice sirens would envy! and what will have all you established artists attention is how effortlessly she sings yet her vocals are usually on point like pin! This lass won the Samsung Ziki Sound Talent Search competition if you needed to see the feather on her cap like a peacock on it’s stride!
{youtube}L8KG8ZuwRv0{/youtube}

#3 Dora
I have said alot about this lass and i will continue to do so. She is multi talented! Aye, this lass sings, raps and PRODUCES her own tracks! And what’s more, she still hasn’t attained age of majority. And i have to say me likey her ethnic look. She is an understated beauty. Have you heard her track “Oyela”? If you haven’t, go jump into the Red Sea!
{youtube}ihsS95GaSSw{/youtube}

#2 Xtatic
This lass is beautiful aye but so talented is she at rapping that she attracted the attention of none Sony Music Group! That’s right! Don’t jealous her abeg now! She has a truly inspiring life story and hot music so what more would you ask for? Oh yeah, her hand in marriage maybe?
{youtube}rzxgfqmqicY{/youtube}

#1 Miss Karun
Problems? Ofcourse not! And just to give you proof that the pudding is sound and her vocals are unblemished, i shan’t even upload a Camp Mulla track, Uncle Chim Tuna shall instead load a track of her solo performance with Just A Band. Thank me later!

Listen to Xtatic’s Hot, Wild New Track

Little bit of this, little that on the side/Little tipsy, little chance of getting high.” Xtatic starts off on her latest single. These are the first lines we get to hear from Xtatic after she signed her deal with ROCKSTAR4000 and Sony Music Group. The lines are from her new track, Wild.

The artiste recently came back from South Africa where she recorded an album with The Fahrenheitz. She is already back in the country, ready to put out new music. Wild is her first post-Sony-signing track, and it was released exclusively on Capital FM earlier in the week.

Wild is surely destined to be a hit. The track has been released in full online as a pseudo video. Xtatic’s debut album is expected to come out by the end of the year. Meanwhile, we can get a feel of what to expect on Wild below.

Remember Katenga’s Kshs. 10 million video? Looks like the braggadocious artiste wasn’t kidding. The video has finally been shot. And to prove it, the Katenga pioneer has released a teaser. In true Jaluo style, Katenga is seriously balling on the short clip.

In an interview with Ghafla!, Cartel hinted at a series of videos to be shot in different countries and even mentioned Dubai as one of the shoot locations. This seems to be the one that was shot in Dubai. It has shots of a sandy plain, which we will assume is the Arabian desert.

Cartel himself can be seen showing us how to live the good life: chilling in Jacuzzis, indoor pools and heaven white towels. The one city shot in the trailer does look like a portion of the Dubai skyline.

The video is for Katenga’s latest single, Daddy Daddy and features Asali. The song and video was produced by Cartel’s own Katenga Entertainment and Katenga Videoz respectively.

WHERE DID ZULU KRU DISAPPEAR TO?

Do you remember Zulu Kru? These are the guys who gave us songs such as:

“Eeh Eeh Kasupu”, Vichinga Vichinga” and one half of the duo Preety Chi did “Kipusa”. And i remember dancing along to these tunes with my cousin Kohe and laughing at how cool they’d made the Luhya accent.

Well, just as their stars seemed to be dawning, they disappeared into oblivion! And this is a plea to everyone, anyone who would have some idea as to where they vanished to: please tell them that they have a huge fan at Ghafla who wants to hear new material from them.

For now, here’s the video to “Kipusa” and “Nionjeshe”.

Kenyan Actor Wins Award At International Festival

It may have taken forever to come out, but looks like Nairobi Half Life was worth the wait. The Kenyan film which finally made its debut at the Durban International Film Festival, was awarded with Best Actor at the end of the festival. The award went to Joseph Wairimu, who plays the main character in the film.

According to DIFF, “From the very opening moments of Nairobi Half Life, actor Joseph Wairimu charms us with his endearing characterization of Mwas. His role as a young actor who tries to resist becoming a reluctant hustler, transcends both comedy and drama. His performance embodies the hunger of Kenyan youth hoping to carve out better lives for themselves.”

NHL tells the story of Mwas, an optimistic young man who decides to move to the big city to pursue his dream of becoming an actor but ends up on the wrong end of the law and tries working his way out.

NHL had its international premiere in Durban and it will open in Nairobi for a theatrical run this month. The win, which was the only one by a Kenyan film, bodes well for the feature as it gets ready to hit the international festival circuite.

NHL was directed by Tosh Gitonga in his feature film debut and was produced by Tom Tykwer’s One Fine Day Films and Ginger Ink. The film was shot towards the tail-end of 2010 and took over a year and a half before it got its premiere. You can check out the Nairobi Half Life trailer below.

Local Gospel Artiste Remixes Kanye and Jay-Z’s Otis

MO-2 is a commerce student at Kenyatta University and recording artiste in the gospel music industry. He records his music at ATL Entertainment, specifically working with Richie G, who produced his latest single, Ma Life. He dabbles in zouk, dancehall, kapuka and hip hop.

In Ma Life, he speaks about getting saved and his life in Christ. Ma Life has used a Kanye West-created beat which he used to collaborate with Jay-Z on Otis. MO-2’s version also uses the same sample Kanye used, Try Little Tenderness vocals by Otis Redding.

“I have arranged it in an attractive structure to bring out perfect rhymes, strong lyrics and sweet flow in sync with the Otis beat. Simply, I’ve tried to own the beat,” says MO-2. “In addition, it is a Gospel song where I’m urging sinners to repent and experience a new life under God,” he adds.

MO-2 is currently working on a compilation where he will include all the music he has done so far. He wants to use the project to show off his skills and abilities in different genres. Meanwhile, you can sample his abilities on Ma Life below.

The count down to Tarrus Riley and Etana’s concert begins

The countdown to the Tarrus Riley Etana concert has officially begun.

And what makes this concert different is the fact that security is guaranteed! Trust that Uncle Chim Tuna wouldn’t be at a concert that has zero security and especially not a reggae concert with the track record Kenya has when it comes to hostingb these.

But the weather is smiling and so should we and we should then mozzy on down to Carnivore. There are T-minus 3 days and you had better believe that it’s going to be hype!

Ladies, come out looking sexy, none of that drab garb Kenyan lasses are known for and lads, come looking dapper, there is also no need for fighting and those other immature shenanigans. Let’s come have a good time!

TOP TEN KENYAN TV SERIES

Ladies and gentlemen, Kenya has come really far in as far as our TV shows are concerned.

Gone are the days when Kenyans were ashamed to say they enjoy watching Kenyan shows 0-yet for many it was a guilty pleasure. Gone are the days when the elite and sophisticated wanna bes only spoke about watching foreign shows consigning anyone who enjoys them to enduring the label of “mboch”.
Well, with that said, here are Kenya’s top 10 hottest TV shows!

#10 Tahidi High
This show was the hottest show for what seemed to be half a decade. That was all before the more memorable characters who made the show what it was “graduated”. When i could no longer enjoy the guilty pleasure of watching “Shish” do her conniving bad girl act, i weaned myself off the show altogether.

#9 Mheshimiwa
I have never truly understood this show. But one thing i do know, is that the show is mighty popular! It has a shocking fanbase that are dedicated and in appreciation of the fact, it gets a spot on the list.

#8 Inspekta Mwala
The premise of the show is a bit dodgy in the sense that no police force in the world would hire a midget but i will admit that it’s a rather entertaining show.
I enjoy the fact that they developed all the characters besides Inspector Mwala himself and this makes for a rather interesting blend.

#7 Briefcase Inc
These guys are hella hilarious! I can’t help but chuckle at the two main characters antics but unfortunately, the plot is abit too redundant for my liking! This show is like a telenovella in the fact that it takes too long to develop the plot. With that said, the actors are top notch and the have that screen chemistry that makes watching the show enjoyable!

#6 Lies that Bind
This show is a bit too similar to another on the list but the production work is good, the plot awesome and the actors truly talented. However, because of the comparison that is bound to occur, they are mightily handicapped.

#5 Changes
The show boasts a star studded cast that is not just diverse on the talent spectrum but also is a good representation of cosmopolitan Kenya.
And the stars are good! This is one show you should tune into if you want to see what quality acting is about.

VIOJA MAHAKAMANI

#4 Vioja Mahakamani
This show gets to the top of the pile because it was a ground breaking show. And up to date, the show has kept it’s fan base up to date. The show is a throw back to the early days of Kenyan television. It is sort of a time capsule.

#3 Je Huu Ni Ungwana?
I don’t understand half of what is said on this show but this show is a true depiction of how Kenyans behave irrespective of their social standing. These are the “peculiar habits” that Micheal Joseph was talking about.
And to top it all off, it stars Kenyan acting legends. The guys who made it possible to have the Brenda Wairimu’s on telly. Or i might just be a little nostalgic…

#2 Vitimbi
True story Bro! This show was/is a legend. Ask any child in Kenya that watches Kenyan TV shows and they can tell you who either Mama Kayai or Mzee Ojwang are.
And that is the mark this show has left on the entertainment industry for years to come.

#1 Mali
What can you say about this show? the only show on the list that gave it a run for it’s money did so merely on the basis of nostalgia. The whole team that works on Mali are truly gifted: from the production team, to the actors to the plot. Everything is on it’s A game.
The only improvement i would suggest for Mali is for them to incorporate some Uncle Chim Tuna into the mix and hey presto! Emmys here we come!

The celebrity killer cypher video finally released

You might call it a ‘cypher’, a simple track or a movie. Whatever you decide on, this video is just epic. Tied up in chains, all up in the captivity matter, MC Mwakenya is definitely making us feel his presence. If you had plans of ignoring this rapper, I wish you luck… you’re going to need it.

He first released the track, ‘Celebrity killer cypher’ and gave it some time before unleashing the killer video. Anticipation was built and fortunately enough, he didn’t disappoint at all.

Known for putting down Octopizzo on his first track, Mwakenya has proved that he wasn’t trying to ride off Octo’s fame at all by going hard on his music and promoting his hood, Kawangware.

Away from music, did you know that Mwakenya also has his own clothing line? Yap, not only is he a rapper, but also a business man. This is some impressive work considering that this is only his second video, and third official track. Check it out below.

Photo gallery: Kijani performing live at the Friday Night Basketball

This sexy trio has lately been performing for fans regularly with show across the country. Last Friday, it was Nairobi’s turn to have this beautiful ladies on stage, or should I say, court.

The Kijani trio last Friday performed at the Friday Night Live basketball games and they actually offered more than the cheerleaders could have done. Have a brief look at the concert in photos below.

Rabbit and Rapdamu ahead all day

Bado we ni m-colorful kama socks za wakambodia.” Ever since I heard this new song from Rabbit and Rap Damu, I just can’t get this line off my head. Punchlines seem to be drawing in more fans for rappers than anything else and Rabbit is just full of them.

It has just dawned on me that Kaka Sungura might just be the next king of Collabo. His collaborations are not only numerous but also unique. Rabbit is not afraid of going off his comfort zone (hip hop), as he has displayed with his recent collaborations and singles which are more in the Afro Fusion genres than hip hop. He even collaborated with the Ohangla man, Makadem.

Well, his latest collabo is with Pacho’s Rapdamu in a song called ‘Ahead all day’. Yeah, it’s still about that competition swag. Check it out below.
