The site describes itself as a fast, beautiful and fun way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. With its ever increasing popularity that has seen the site get up to 1,000 comments per second, it might just be the next place to stalk catch up with your favourite celebrity.

Fame Hungry Facebook Gangsters Attack Mbusi In A Disgusting Open Letter!

There has been a trend that has taken root amongst Kenyan youth where haters feel that their say is the end all and be all.

They have taken to posting hate-filled open letters on Facebook that don’t address any clear or real issues. The open letter merely insult media personalities and celebrities and offend those of us with more than just a modicum of intelligence.

The latest open letter seeks to attack Ghetto Radio and Mbusi for perceived shortcomings. But no real issue is tackled. All the author -wait, to author anything would need intelligence- what the scribbler of this doodled piece of creative defecate has done is merely to attack Mbusi and call him gay.

The reason this letter has disgusted me is because it wasn’t even an intelligent rant, it was just a doodle done by some homo-phobic retard seeking fame by hitting out at a celebrity. Listen Mr. *insert name here*, you and Cabu Gah are not the same. The lad Cabu Gah put his ideas on wax. His problems with gospel artists were real issues. Yours is just hateful drivel.

Mbusi painstakingly built up his empire. From a street hassler to radio kingpin. Do not take his hassle for granted. If you think that all he had to do to get to where he is was to as you so ignorantly put it, “Bend over” then you fall your mother’s hand! You fall am hand and bring shame to your lineage because to you fame can be purchased by sexual favours.

This your letter was mugu! And if you thought your drivel was going to go down well, you go fit learn today! You better off if you dey chop rat poison! Robbish!

Here is what this fame hungry poser posted:

“Niaje admin, mimi naitwa Barbs na siogopi ukitaja jina yangu. Niko na moto na GETTOH REDIO na kuna ukweli nataka kuweka wazi.kwanza tomba(f*ck) gettoh kwa kujifanya wana represent hood, nkt watomba mama(motherf**k

ers). Yule presenter wao anaitwa linda last year sialikuwa maternity leave? Na hakuna fan alijua coz inafanyagwa kiundercover. Bol ilikuwa ya mdosi wao Majimaji. Hii ndio sababu hainaga madem mapresenter wengi coz hakuna madem wengi wako desperate kaa Linda kuvumilia mboro ya majimaji daily ndio amaintain job yake. Jiulize kwanini wanapea size8 air play mob kuliko Avril?
Maybe sieleweki but wacha niulize, Ndugus anaeza replace point blank na vanesa?
Nkt watomba mama”
Mbusi is an awesome lad. One of the few whose stries are tales of paradigm shifts that inspire the youth of Kenya! Get on your grind and stop trying to swagger jack Cabu Gah for fame! Your 2seconds of fame are now over. As you were!

A dedication from Uncle Chim Tuna!

Ghafla Unveils The Next Big Deejay!

Ladies and gentlemen, frogs and toads, i would like to make a prediction for this year. And that prediction is that the deejay i am about to unveil for you is the next larger than life deejay from Kenya!

I first met DJ Genius at a Ghafla interview. He was soft spoken. i then watched him scratch vinyl on Sunday at F2. He is a lion on the decks! The patrons at F2 are far from genteel folk. They are rambunctious, loud and full of youthful folly. Many an artist and deejay wouldn’t be able to get this crowd moving. But not deejay Genius. I suspect that’s how he got the name.

But back to the matter at hand, DJ Genius even mingled in some souk and lingala into the ragga set and people cheered. talk about reading the crowd! He knew when they would appreciate something different. And when they got restless, he’d drop a gem on them that would have them screaming and the girls gyrating their yansh! And they didn’t stop! They had more energy than the energizer bunny.

As if that isn’t enough, DJ Genius doesn’t just hold it down for the truly young, he has it on lock lock for those who’re young at heart aswell. He spins at Lavish Lounge on Thursday during their Lavish Thursday gigs. Trust me when i say that this lad is a murderer on the decks! That’s why i don’t think i’m going out on a limb by saying that this will be his year! Watch this space! From soft spoken lad to Jekyll on the 1 and 2s! This lad is the future of Deejaying in Kenya!

As the Election Approaches, Ulopa Releases a Song for Peace

As the election approaches and the news gets saturated by political stories, don’t expect the entertainment industry to be spared.

Octopizzo already released Toboa with Anto NeoSoul, KenRazy with Kura BurnDem and even Abbas and Bamboo recently released a political song for The National Alliance, Jubilee 2013. Now, Ulopa Ngoma has come up with his own, Stand Up (Mimi na Wewe) with Ashantyl.

The song starts off with a message: “Ndugu zangu, dada zangu, nizikizeni. Uzuri wa mama yetu Kenya ni tabaka tofauti 42 tuliopewa na Mwenyezi Mungu. Kwa amani na upendo, tushikane tusitengane, tukuzane tusiuane, tupendane tusichukiane. Kwa sababu wokovu wetu ni sisi, mimi na wewe.”

Ulopa says on profile, “Just before the March elections we urge all kenyans to pray for peace, love one another and in unity face the future together. This song is both a prayer and an awareness campaign. Tuungane pamoja upendo na Amani ni yetu.” Check out Stand Up below.

Have Your Say: Volar vs Skylux vs Blix… Which Club Is The Hottest? (POLL)

Where my party people at? Those that love to party and have no shame! Donae had you in mind when he sang “Party Hard!”

Well, last year i had a blast patronizing different party spots. Some i liked, others were astoundingly horrendous. Some were posh, others weren’t yet they still impressed. Some had wonderful service, others had horrible staff. The security at some clubs… no, that would be a lie. Bouncers in general in Nairobi suck.
But that got me thinking; why not try and ask you the reader for your input. Why not pit clubs and pubs against each other and let you decide which club rocks and which one doesn’t? This is your chance to have your say, today let’s set the stakes off with a battle between Blix, Skyluxx and Volar. A triple 3 way if you will!

This Is One Of The Most EPIC Kenyan Concert Performances I’ve Ever Seen!

OK, so I stumbled on this video of Eko Dydda a while back, and I’ve been meaning to write about it, but I had some web development stuff to do. Now that I’ve fixed up the site, let me tell you about this concert.

So Eko Dydda was performing at the Groove Tour last year, the Mombasa edition to be exact, and he was belting out the tune “Psalm 23.” Eko did not disappoint with his usual energy on stage, looking like he might break a leg with some of his outstretched movements! But what made this video REALLY special was the crowd.

I’ve been to several concert performances in Kenya, and what you usually find is most people in the crowd have a stick up their behinds, acting too ‘classy’ to be impressed, as if they see celebs in concert every day. These wet blanket types usually stand and stare at the performer, looking dull like this:

http://whateverblog.dallasnews.com/files/2012/12/Grumpy-Cat-MEME-01.jpg

But not these Coasterians. These guys LOVED Eko Dydda and were proud to say it out loud! By this I mean that they chanted loudly each and every single word to the song “Psalm 23.” It was just lovely when Eko Dydda let them stagger and stammer over his lines on his behalf. Adding onto the vocal hype, the crowd was also throwing their hands in the air, and waving them like they just didn’t care, for the ENTIRE recording! Have you ever seen mad support like that for a local artist? I highly doubt. At least I haven’t. But it’s great to see the fans coming round to adoring their local celebs like this. Enough of these verbose descriptions now. See the video for yourself here below:

Props to Astar, who’s the one who shot the video from backstage

KTN is The Most Impartial TV Station: Report

According to an opinion poll conducted by the Television Viewers and Radio Listeners Association of Kenya earlier today, KTN is the most unprejudiced TV station in the country. The association carried the polls against the backdrop of the just concluded political parties’ primaries.

Most people who took part in the poll favoured the Mombasa-road based TV station arguing that the station did not take any political side as far as coverage of the nominations was concerned. Citizen TV and K24 were faulted for inclining towards CORD and Jubilee Alliance respectively.

This is a great news especially to the new management at the Standard Group which has been struggling to redeem KTN’s glory after the station lost most of its top journalists two years ago. NTV was also voted for having a rational reporting.

Changes Is Back Bigger And Badder!

I have to admit that when my colleagues suggested Changes as the venue for the rhumba last week on Thursday, i wasn’t thrilled.

For long, i was their biggest critic. I remember calling it a Parkinglot Club. And while, it’s still rather small, they renovated it to give it that superstar feel! I dare say, move over Skyluxx, Changes is the new lifestyle club!

For starters the interior got quite the face lift. They added couches for comfort and luxurious seating. And for those of you who were regulars, you probably know that the VIP section was just the balcony aye? Not anymore! They now have an official VIP section complete with security to vet who gets to get in! The couches in VIP are white and are rather cush! They hug and snuggle your buttocks rather comfortable to allow you to concentrate on your drinking without an aching backside.

The bouncers also seem to have undergone a transformation. There were a couple of lads who imbibed more than they could handle last Thursday but they weren’t accosted. Instead, they were politely escorted out of the club. they even gave one lad who was out of it support because he couldn’t even walk.

But enough of my jibber jabber, here are some pics of the new and improved Changes!

KRA Wants To Start Taxing Keg

This article is brought to you by the folks at our sister site: Pesatalk.com. It’s good.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is lobbying to start taxing the popular and low-cost ‘Keg’ alcoholic drink which is currently exempted from excise tax. If this happens, you will obviously add a few more shillings to pay for your tin of Keg.

KRA argues exempting non-malt beer from excise tax was meant to discourage consumption of illicit drinks, but has rather continued to undermine the uptake of other taxable beers. This has led to a slower than expected growth in domestic exercise duty.

This shift in consumption patterns for beer to non-malt containerized drinks is what KRA says has hurt revenue collection performance thus the prospects to tax Keg. The taxman says he has lost KES 11 billion worth of possible revenue because the VAT Bill 2012 was not passed.

KRA is however behind its set target blaming this on economic conditions that fell short of expectations in the first half of the year. For instance, GDP was expected to grow by 5.5% but grew at 4.7% while inflation averaged 5%  out of a target of 9.8%.

Mejja Punked by Fellow Calif Member, Ala-C

Ala-C, Clemo and the Calif Records family decided to punk one of their own over the phone. The lucky one who got to be on the other end of their gag is none other than Mejja. Check out a transcript of the punking below.

Ala-C: “Hello.”

Mejja: “Hello.”

Ala-C: “Naitwa Mundu Mumu kutoka Kameme 104.7 FM. Kameme Kayu Kamuigi. Nilikuwa nauliza kama uko mahali tunaweza kufanya interview on air dakika tano tafadhali.”

Mejja: “Kuhusu nini?”

Ala-C: “Tuko na show inaitwa Kumeria Nyau Nyau. Saa hii saa hii.”

Mejja: “Ungeniuliza mapema, saa hii haiwezekani.”

Ala-C: “Hatuhitaji uongee sana Mejja.”

Mejja: “Unajua saa hii nilikuwa na…Ungeniambia mapema nijipange.”

Ala-C: “Kwa hivyo tutafanya lini? Kwa sababu nilikuwa nimeambia watu jana jioni tuko na Mejja, kwa hivyo unajua sasa watu wanangoja.”

Mejja: “Makosa si yangu, ungesema mapema. Unaona we umetokea tu.”

Ala-C: “Hakuna msanii yoyote unaweza kutupatia wa kushikilia basi?”

Mejja: “Ni ngumu kupata mtu juu ya interview. Ungesema like one week before ama three days before ndio ujue siku fulani unakuja interview.”

Ala-C: “Mejja, ni kama hujanipata. Hautakuja Kameme, tunaifanya kwa simu dakika tano tu.”

Mejja: “Oh, kwa simu. Ni sawa.”

Mejja agrees to the interview and go over the details.

[Jump to the punking]

Ala-C: “Nikiku-introduce tu hivo…nataka uingie na freestyle kidogo. Si we ni Mejja, watu wanakuelewa.”

[Introduction in Kikuyu]

Ala-C: “Mejja, tupatie hiyo freestyle angalau mafans wakusikie.”

Mejja: “[Landlord Verse] Niaje watu wangu. Huyu ni Mejja a.k.a Okwonkwo.”

Ala-C: “Mumesikia, ni Mejja ako live on Kameme Kayu Kamuigi na mimi ni Mundu Mumu, niko na co-host wangu hapa. Mejja, ongea na co-host wangu hapa.

Clemo: “Mejja, beat ya Clemo. Uko Punk’d. Mejja, uko fiti?”

Mejja: “Mi niko poa, salama.”

Clemo: “Ni Clemo.”

Mejja: “Ati Clemo?”

Clemo: “Nafanya kazi Kameme siku hizi bana.”

Mejja: “Ati ni nani?”

Ala-C: “Ni Clemo na akina Ala-C, tumeku-punk bana.”

Ladies and gentle, bots and girls frogs and toads, i wish to present to you the only event in Kenya that has succesfully created superstars.

The list of artists who have emerged from “Showtime” at F2 is impressive! From Wicky Mosh to Bamboo and Abbas, from Fundi Frank, Gidi Gidi, Maji Maji, Kenrazy, Jua Cali, Juliani. The list is endless. Think you can find another event that has such an impressive portfolio? Not even TPF comes close!

#2. If you can get the crowd to feel you, Kenya is your’s for the taking!

The crowd at F2 is hostile! They are so hostile that if your song sucks, they will boo you off stage with such youthful enthusiasm, it’s damn near babaric! But when you move them, they are like putty in your hands. Ask Gidi Gidi Maji Maji how useful the experience they got from F2 was.

#3. F2 believes in giving people an opportunity

For the F2 management, giving budding artists a chance to have their music played is more than just rhetoric. They actually give artists an opening to perform. Even artists without traction… Actually, their emphasis is on artists without traction.

#4. They give you experience in stage performances

They not just let you gauge the reception your song will garner, they also give you valuable experience at stage performances. You get to learn how to interact with the crowd and how to keep your audince engaged.

The thing about F2 is that while the reception can be cold and frigid, it can also be one of overwhelming appreciation. The crowd at F2 are young and unschooled in the art of diplomacy. They will boo you or cheer you with equal measure. But the best thing about them is that they represent the “streets|” rappers talk about. If you can’t move them, then you have zero street cred!

Octopizzo’s face lands on a matatu

As a celebrity, it is a feeling of joy and pride to see your works represented all over the country by your fans.

Better yet, feeling of acceptance and acknowledgement kicks in when someone or a group of people choose to endorse you voluntarily.

Octopizzo is no longer a small name. He is no longer “just a rapper from Kibera”. He has proved to be way more than most expected him to be. Octopizzo’s name now lies within the category of ‘Kenya’s biggest rapper’. Real and inspiring story of a rapper who came from rags to riches.

So when his face gets on a matatu that is not even from his hood (Kibera), then you know that there is some greatness lying within this fast rising rapper.

Big up Octopizzo!

REPORT ON THE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE ALLEGED HACKING INCIDENT COMMITTED BY SUSPECT DENNIS ITUMBI, A VIOLENT CRIMINAL, AT THE WEBSITE AREA, NAIROBI COUNTY.

The above mentioned team of crack detectives from the Terrorism and Serious Crimes Unit proceeded with the suspect with a view to finding the Website, which is the scene of the hacking incident. We suspected it to be located in the Zimmermann area of Nairobi. However, our counterparts at Kasarani could not determine exactly whee this website address is. Some thought it might be the name of a pub. We immediately contacted the Provincial Commissioner, to verify from Liquor Licensing records whether a bar called Website exists. We obtained a negative answer.

After a whole day suspect driving along every road, reserve, path and easement in the area of interest, we saw no place, and found no one who knows where Website is. the suspect was adamant in his obviously deceitful answer that Website doesn’t actually exist physically.

At 2045 hours, we deposited the suspect at Muthaiga police station, and generated a signal to all police stations in Nairobi, Kiambu, Embu, and Kajiado counties to help us trace the location of Website. All responses were negative.

Finally, our cyber-crimes detective arrived from Somalia, and confirmed the suspect’s information regarding the whereabouts of the Website place.

FINDINGS/CONCLUSIONS

1. There is massive collusion in relation incident. The suspect seems to have enlisted our own officers in perpetrating the hacking incident and covering it up.

2. Unfortunately, because we have not been to the scene of crime, we have no witnesses to the hacking incident.

3. For the reason given in 2 above, we have not been able to trace the weapons and other instruments that the suspect may have used in the hacking.

4. For the same reasons, the victim of the hacking has not been found. No reports of injuries consistent with violent and armed hacking have been reported to any of the stations enlisted in this investigation.

5. The suspect persists in his dishonest testimony that the weapons used in the violent incident were a modem and a computer. We have seen both devices and confirm that they cannot be used to inflict injuries consistent with the word hacking. Indeed, both are, at best, soft, blunt objects that cannot be used to hack anything.

6.Once again, the cyber-crimes detective seems to agree with the suspect’s version in respect of the weapons.

7.The stolen files have not been recovered. Since we are closely monitoring the suspect and our cyber-crimes detective, we trust that there will be no opportunity to tamper, hide or destroy the files before investigations are complete.

RECOMMENDATIONS

a. A comprehensive internal review and investigations be conducted with a view to instituting disciplinary action in terms of the Police Standing Orders against the cyber-crimes detective, Det. Poor Masikini, and any other officer(s) who may have colluded with him and the suspect in obstructing investigations.

b. the Minister for Internal Security be requested to permit the investigation team to resort to more robust and efficient interrogation techniques to obtain the truth from the suspect.

c. The Ministry of Lands and the Survey of Kenya be requested to assist in identifying the location of Website

d. All hospitals within the jurisdiction of the stations copied be directed to forward all records of hacking victims treated over the past 90 days.

e. The investigation team’s tour of duty be extended indefinitely with imprest and full allowances until the investigation is completed.

f. The investigation team be augmented with the following excellent officers, namely Privates: Eunice Mwikali, Rehema Omar, Mwanaali Hamisi, Truphena Mwaangi, Evelyne Achieng, Dorcas Chepkoros, and Phanice Muhanji.

Sir, I remain ever

POLL RESULTS: Which is Better? MALI vs. Lies That Bind

Last week, we conducted a poll to find out which is the biggest local soap opera. And we put two of the best ones against each other.

MALI and Lies That Bind have been rivals, at some point sharing the same time slot on NTV and KTN respectively. There has been an online debate on which is the better one ever since they both premiered.

Lies That Bind consistency has worked to its advantage after MALI has had its time slot moved around and even the number of days it airs a week cut to only one. The battle even moved to the awards show circuit where Lies That Bind won the Kalasha and MALI won at the Ghafla! Awards.

And now after closing the poll, we can say that the fans have decided. And the winner is…MALI, which dominated Lies That Bind, winning 62% of the vote to the latter’s 38%. Prove the results here.

Miss Karun’s parents order her to go back to school

Some few months ago, Kenya’s biggest and most popular hip hop group declared their brief halt on their music as a group, as they all went separate ways to work on solo projects like mix tapes and remix.

They however made it clear that they are still together and strong and will probably be back on track by the end of the year. Infact, they even mentioned that they have done a new track which they plan to release in a few months.

Right now, things are not as clear anymore. The group’s sweet singer, Miss Karun, will this year be flying out of the country to complete her studies, so her mother ordered.

Though Camp Mulla say that they will be commencing some of their group projects as soon as possible, they also confirmed that Miss Karun will be absent for quite a while.

Despite all these, they are assuring their fans that Miss Karun will still be participating in the projects.

Goldie talks about her favorite sex position

Shocked, right? I know. So was I when I first saw this interview. After watching Nigeria’s Goldie for three months on the Big Brother Africa StarGame, I would never have thought she would be open about her sex life and which sex position she prefers.

Not so long ago, Goldie was interviewed by Nigeria Daily Gist Extra and they managed to loosen her up a little.

This is basically how the interview went down (as reported by sources).

Let me start by asking what is your least favourite sexual position?

I wouldn’t know because I haven’t tried one that I didn’t like yet, so if I did try one that I didn’t like, I would…

So what’s your favourite sex position?

I think I’m very old school…hmmm. The missionary style…

No. That’s wrong. Goldie is not allowed to do it the Missionary style.

I’m not?

You are not. You are Goldie, you are crazy. You wear all these outlandish out fits and people are supposed to go like ‘What the hell’ when they look at you.

We are really the timid ones in the end.

Really?

(Laughs) Don’t get the wrong impression…(laughs) Everybody thinks I’m this monster, let people know that I am boring.

You’ve been on the scene for a few years and then someone, for example, Tiwa Savage, just swoops in. How does it feel when you go for events and people are all over an artiste like Tiwa Savage? Do they react more because of the raunchy sexual image or the pretentious one?

I wouldn’t say Tiwa Savage just swooped in. She’s been someone who has been doing music for a long time

I mean in the Nigerian system.

You have to understand that music comes from a long while back. This repertoire is on her profile. If you see someone that has been signed on Sony Music as a song writer for five years. Someone who has done competitions, she tried to compete in X factor and you saw the pain when she was turned down. She just deserves a break, and besides, she’s a hard worker. She’s talented and a fantastic person. She was around for my birthday and she was like I’m going to come and eat jollof rice and she tweeted it ‘Goldie, your rice rocks’. Tiwa is like the sweetest female artiste. You cannot hate on her. You have to love her. For all, I think she deserves all she gets.

Are you going to be doing collaborations with her?

We have spoken about it severally, we’re just looking for a subject matter.

What do you think it’s going to sound like?

I don’t know, but we are just looking for a proper subject matter that would be true to me and true to her.

We hear you have a lot of money and that’s why you have gone so far in the industry. You have got all these fantastic fashion people…

I don’t think it’s about money. I think it’s about talent and about people loving your work. There are people who are rich and have tried singing, but nobody knows who they are, so it’s not about money.

What would you say about your relationship with people in the industry? Do you think that has helped make you a bigger and more successful artiste or a less successful artiste?

What exactly are you asking?

I’m asking if you have a very good relationship with other artistes in the industry.

Oh yes! I do. I’m very polite with everybody. Everybody is always polite and we all understand and appreciate each other and that’s what counts. Unfortunately, I would love to have more time to spend with people, but I don’t have enough time. Throughout last year, I think I saw my dad just once. That’s how little time I have to spend with even my family.

What do you think about D’banj’s recent utterances about the ‘Occupy Nigeria’ protest that went down?

Its unfortunate. You know, what I have realised is that there are lots of things that are wrong in this country and lots that are right, but unfortunately, we dwell on the wrong ones. D’banj interviewed our President when he was campaigning. He had his view, so did so many. D’banj, in his own way, is trying to satisfy his conscience. Nobody knows what he is going through, and I feel as outsiders we shouldn’t judge based on what he says. I can’t judge him because I don’t know him or his mental state…

What would you have done differently?

Under what circumstances?

If you had to interview the President…

First of all, I am an artiste. I would not have interviewed the President, maybe if I was a presenter, I would, but I am an artiste and my job is to pass my message across to people through my music. My job is not to interview the president, so we cannot compare because it probably would not have happened.

Yet Another Campaign Song For The Jubilee Coalition

After the Jubilee Alliance was last week accused of stealing Gidi Gidi and Maji Maji’s hit song “Unbwogable”, another artist has come up with a new song that may just be the coalition’s official campaign song.

Complete with excerpts from the coalition’s rallies across the country, the song furthers Jubilee’s manifesto. Though quite amateurish, the song was done by Chitab Koret and seeks to drum up support for the alliance.

Chitab Koret is a Kalenjin musician, singing in Sabaot language and fusing it entirely with Kalenjin dialects. In this song however, he sings in Swahili.

Former Miss Kenya Shoots Kshs. 1 Million Video

Los Angeles based TV host and former Miss Universe – Kenya, Rachel Marete, has made a her debut into music with her first single, Kelele. The song, which was produced in Los Angeles, is bound to take the industry by storm because not only is it a house music club banger, but the TV host cum songstress also shelled a whopping Kshs. 1 million to shoot its video with the super-talented new kid in the block, director Andrew Macharia.

A. Macharia has not only shot ground-breaking Kenyan videos like Camp Mulla’s Fresh All Day, Kanja and Naomi’s Paradise, Sauti Sol’s Money lover, K-Letta and Amina’s Paint the Town Red and Bamboo and Sugar’s 25Flow but is also an established Los Angeles director working with such big names as Young Jeezy, Frankie J and Akon Just to mention a few. The video for Kelele was also produced by Phi-Ny.

“Though produced in Los Angeles, my music was made for Kenyans,” the beauty queen said in an interview. “Therefore, I thought shooting the video in Kenya would add to its authenticity. However, I wanted to prove wrong the myth that good quality videos cannot be shot in Kenya. I knew the only way to do that was by working with Phi-Ny and Macharia because I knew them from Los Angeles and I had been privy to their work. I knew that only they would understand my vision and help me execute it the right way since I know how they work and they know me too. Good quality is expensive so the budget was realistic for the type of video I wanted made. The director pulled all stops and we are all really excited about it.”

Speaking to the director Andrew Macharia he says that the video is bound send shock waves through the industry. “There’s a lot of talent in Kenya but we lag behind the big talents from countries such as Angola, Nigeria and South Africa because while they spend millions of shillings for quality productions, a lot of our artists simply wing it by spending little amounts and hoping for a good outcome. In order to truly compete, an artist must be willing to do what it takes to have a great product and it was a pleasure to work with someone who understood that well. Rachel definitely pushed boundaries with this video from her performance to everything else so expect this to be epic,” says the director Macharia, now dubbed the new wonderkid director.

The anticipated video is set to debut tomorrow. The 26 year old beauty queen is no stranger to glamour. Her job as a red carpet host in Hollywood and Sky’s 664 channel has her hobnobbing with some of the biggest stars in the world frequently. Therefore, we expect nothing short of the best from her and her new singing career.

ODM’s Kidero and TNA’s Waititu Face Off on Live TV (Video)

The stage is set for what has been termed as the “battle royale” for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. After sailing through the rigorous nominations exercise, TNA’s Ferdinand “Baba Yao” Waititu will be facing it against ODM’s Dr. Evans Kidero.

But before the two meet at the ballot, Citizen TV hosted the two last night in what may have been the first gubernatorial debate for Nairobi County. As Kidero chose to throw bare knuckle punches, Waititu remained composed the entire moment and just talking when his turn came. Perhaps holding his best cards under the table until the right moment?

According to pundits, Waititu won the debate because as Kidero was arrogant in the sense that he looked down on Waititu for a better part of the interview. Watch the video below and share your thoughts.

Meg C Denies The Abortion Rumor Started By Pulse Magazine

Alright, so Pulse yesterday wrote in their ‘Extreme Gossip’ column that a certain CEO had asked a singer to abort. As usual, Pulse were too cowardly to name names, and resorted to a guessing game of ‘fill in the blanks.’

Pulse said that a “celebrated singer, who has been out of public limelight since last year, is said to be pregnant with the child of the CEO of a leading multi-national company. He has allegedly asked her to abort.

Pulse then went ahead to describe the abortion suspect, saying that according to sources close to the sassy girl — who has in the past been nominated for various awards and dated a famous sports star — besides making hit songs, the star is five months due and the CEO wants to hear none of it.

Then the Kenyan Daily Post went ahead to name the name of the celeb who had ‘dated a famous sports star.’ They spilled the beans that it was Meg C the Pulse was talking about, since she had once dated Dennis Oliech.

Meg C was enraged by all this, and took to social media to reject these rumors from Pulse Magazine, saying:

“Well these rumours spreading that I am 5 months pregnant & it needs to be aborted… well its so sad that some writers have nothing to say but to attack me with lies.

I AM NOT PREGNANT

Where have i been hiding? And that CEO who’s looking for me? Am I not online FB everyday chatting with my fans & posting my flat belly on my new WALL (pictures) OF NEW ME 2013. As I know I am still a widow, and if you saw Sunday Nation Buzz December 16, 2012, you could see my recent interview, no man has asked me out. I am just arranging a ceremony to celebrate my (deceased)husband’s life. One more week to his Anniversary na tena nasoma hii. It’s so sad you’re attacking me with bad lies & I dont have a husband neither a CEO.
Abortion is a crime for God’s sake. I have my two children and that’s all I know & I am still proud as a mother. If you have no truth about me well here is the truth.”

Waititu Trends Worldwide On Twitter

After Waititu clinched the Nairobi Governor ticket for the TNA coalition, Kenyans on Twitter went wild with discussions. Some lamented why a ‘stone thrower’ could be voted for, and those on the other side of the discussion said that Nairobians have historically voted for hooliganish politicians anyway, so Waititu knows what he is doing.

Bottom line though, is that the hefty debate has now garnered Waititu some bit of global recognition, as Kenyans on Twitter managed to make the word ‘Waititu’ the number one trending topic globally. Here is photographic evidence:

WOW.

Film Review & Ticket Give-Away: Something Necessary

Nairobi Half Life came out much later than he should have, which meant Something Necessary had to be pushed to this year. The timing is eerily convenient. Elections should have taken place last year but they were also somehow pushed to 2013. Something Necessary will come out six weeks before go to vote again.

The opening scene reminded me a lot of the fact-based films that came out in 2012, most notably Argo and Zero Dark Thirty. Using actual event footage to set up a story and put it into perspective.

Something Necessary opening is more brutal than the film ever gets. Images of people being hacked, forced out of public transport to be murdered and finally, a victim crying after arriving at a camp.

Anne is one of the many victims of the violence that followed the 2007 elections. What sets her apart from other victims running to camps is her unusual eagerness to get back home, where an attack on her family left her husband dead and son in a coma. She is enthusiastic about rebuilding the place before her son recovers and come back home as if nothing had changed. Never mind her husband grave lies close to the home entrance.

Joseph, a young man, a participant in the attack, taken by the gang mentality, realizes the mistake he made having participated as part of the attack. This happens just when the group he was a part of is still being incited to carry out more attacks. And his breakout from the gang puts his life in danger.

In a fairly clever twist, he somehow makes it back on Anne’s farm just as she is rebuilding. He takes it as an opportunity to redeem himself. Both individuals are skeptical about testifying at a commission set up to address the events that took place in the area.

Where all these storylines merge is where I wish the film would have concentrated on: more on Joseph’s redemption, more of Anne resisting the urge to testify at the commission.

Something Necessary’s biggest plus are the lead actors’ performances. Susan Wanjiru as Anne gives one of the best performances I’ve seen by an actress on any local film. She carries the role with confidence you only see in established and successful thesps.

Played by Walter Lagat, Joseph’s choice to leave the gang leaves him isolated and the result is that he has very few lines throughout the film but he projects the guilt through his eyes well.

Yinka Edward’s cinematography is beautiful and the shots come off beautifully in the edits between the flashbacks and the present. Something Necessary was directed by award-winning director, Judy Kibinge, adapting Mungai Kiroga and J.C. Niala’s screenplay.

The One Fine Day Films Workshop has continually produced some of the best films from the region with Soul Boy, Nairobi Half Life and now Something Necessary.

You now get the chance to win a pair of tickets to the premiere which will take place on January 24th at the Century Cinemax theatres at The Junction. Kenyans will get the first look at Something Necessary but it will have its world premiere a couple of days later at which international film festival? Blankets And Wine Venue Changed

Starting next month(February) Blankets and Wine will no longer be held at the Mamba Village’s Leisure Grounds. It will now be hosted at the Carnivore Grounds. The leading act for Blankets and Wine XLI will be renowned South African house group Mi Casa, who are well known for their smash hit “Heaven Sent” amongst others:

Curtain raisers will include Suzzana Owiyo, Naomi Wachira and Barbara Guantai. Whether this move will pay off remains to be seen. It has been noted that one of the things that helped Blankets and Wine succeed was the exclusive location of Mamba Village, which was deep in the heart of Nairobi’s surburbia, aka “ubarbini.” Is this a material risk to the Blankets brand? Will bringing it to Carni dilute the exclusivity? Leave your interesting or creative responses in the comment section below:
