Revealed: Over 30 Journalists under Protection following Threats
More than 30 journalists are in a protection scheme in Kenya due to threats on their lives and harassment, the Media Council of Kenya CEO, Harun Mwangi has revealed.
He adds that the journalists have received threats from politicians and people dealing in illegal businesses.
“About 35 journalists in Kenya are on the protection list due to threats from prominent people. Some have to do with journalists who have been compromised at one point and failed to deliver,” said Dr. Mwangi.
Most of them are drawn from Western, Coast, Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma and Rift valley where threats from politicians and corrupt individuals is rife.
Mwangi added that the rise in investigative journalism in Kenya has also contributed to the increased threats to Kenyan journalists.
He advised journalists to maintain their independence and integrity. They should also be ethical, transparent, and always alert their editors whenever they are conducting investigative pieces, he added.

Lupita Now Embraces Her Mexican Roots
After a mini-feud pitting Kenyans and Mexicans especially after Lupita Nyong’o won an Oscar, the talented actress has come out to embrace her Mexican roots.
Earlier in the week, Lupita joined Plaza Sesamo, a Mexican edition of the popular children’s show Sesame Street, for a short segment celebrating laughter.
Born in Mexico, Lupita is fluent is four languages including Spanish, English, Kiswahili and Dholuo. So it explains it when she appeared on the Mexican version of Sesame Street in a short segment that teaches kids how to laugh that she spoke impeccable Spanish.

The rest of the statement issued read like one big P.R campaign and went on to say alot of nothing about clouds, rainbows and unicorns prancing about in a field where fairies lived;

The real, unbiased reason for killing Nairobi News is the fact that The Nairobians “no holds barred” approach to reporting blew NMG out of the water but having been constrained by the straight jacket of an ethics code that made no sense in the business environmnent they were in. Let us be real and call a spade a spade, The Nairobian and Nairobi News were both glorified tabloids. The Nairobian embraced this and is doing well.
Nairobi News wanted to be pretentious, elitist even about being a tabloid. Thing is, as the Igbo say, if you do not want to trade with the devil, you must stay out of bis market.
