After a long hiatus out of showbiz, the undisputed pioneer of dancehall music and one of the most influential female artists in the country, Nazizi, was thrust back into the limelight for not-so good reason.

Early in March it emerged that Nazizi had just finalized the divorce process from her husband and baby’s dad, Vini Hamsa Leopold, who she got married to in 2008. While the issues surrounding the divorce and the new man in her life have been going back and forth for some time now, Nazizi seems to be done with them and is now back to what she does best.

This weekend, Nazizi will drop her first video in a very long time.

Called 254, the video will be the first single to be released off her upcoming album, EVO-LUSSION. Here’s a glimpse of the brand new video dropping on 24th May 2014;

Sauti Sol have been riding a rather impressive wave of creativity that has seen their recently released song become the most controversial yet the most trending song out right now. And they recently left the country on some business vibe but not before reminding everyone to vote for them as they have been nominated for a MAMA Award.

Over a decade ago, Kenya lost one of it’s brightest stars to date in the embodiment of Issah M’mari. The lad who was the lead act for the stable Ogopa was quite the artist! Long before anyone thought of Kiswahili sanifu as cool, he was rapping using it and so influential was he that soon everyone begun to change their perspective on the language.

Sadly, tragically, we lost Esir in an accident. However, the man who inspired an entire generation into taking music seriously would have been 33 had he lived to see today. So today i want to celebrate him. Happy Birthday Esir! Issah Mmari (May 20, 1981 – March 16, 2003).

Gospel artist caught pants down? That’s unimaginable but as inconceivable as it may seem many have been weighed and found to be wanting. Gospel artistes have been deemed controversial, out of place, inappropriate and other words that are less than settling.

To say the least, it is very disappointing when the people who are supposed to influence us positively end up getting busted doing the crazy things the people they are supposed to influence positively do.

We spoke to Gospel artist and producer Majic Mike about it and here is what he had to say..

“Let me start by saying that no one is perfect and none of us can judge. We all fall at some point; the only difference is how public you story gets,” says Mike.

The hits maker adds, “As gospel artists we face the same challenges as everyone else and the same emotions. I believe however that we have to take responsibility for our actions.”

Khaligraph jones is one of the most prolific rappers Kenya has produced in a long while but then again, Octopizzo is currently the rapper sitting on the throne. What is the greater commond denominator between the two? Beef! The pair have been embroiled in one of the more exciting beefs to erupt in the Kenyan entertainment scene in a long while.

But this was not always the case. When they came up, they were friends. When they were all hungry, they hassled together. They created alot of noise at “Wapi?” but it seems that ambition has them going their different ways and now, even having each other in the others’ cross hair!

Last week, delectable former Rauka Gospel Show host, Joyce Omondi, last week jetted back into the country from ‘the States’ where she’s taking her graduate studies in International Development at the Georgetown University in Washington.

However, the award winning Gospel singer didn’t come back empty-handed as she had her fans in mind. Straight from the U.S. to Kubamba show, Joyce came bearing gifts. First from her basket was a brand new single exclusively unveiled on the Gospel show.

Dubbed Uinuliwe, the video is the 3rd single off of Joyce’s debut album, Conquerer, and speaks of God’s faithfulness and grace.

Prezzo, government names Jackson (Jaheim) Makini, was studying to be a pilot before the music bug bit him. That however doesn’t mean that he lost his passion for flying crafts -a passion I cannot understand given that I am scared of flying. And that passion seems to be opening strange yet blessed doors for him as he usually gets to ride up front with the captain.

We have been enjoying his debut with his hot track and delivery and great flow but he has been silent for a minute. The lad of whom I speak is none other than Kristoff. He did a track about his infatuation for the lass with a tattoo on her leg (Vera Sidika) and then went on to feature his partner in crime Khaligraph Jones.

But sadly, he has been silent for a while but I caught up to him and he had some bold words for everyone in the entertainment industry to stay on their toes because he wants the title of “King Wa Rap” and he has a plan to get him there. He is taking no prisoners and he wants you to know that!

That burning ambition is in his eyes!

 Over the weekend, comedian and radio host, Chipukeezy celebrated his birthday that saw his celebrity friends attend among them Jaguar, Jalang’o, Sleepy, Ringtone, Shaffie among others.

The annual Africa Day Celebrations – FetAfrik – has taken on a new dimension since last year with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the FetAfrik Organizing Committee going out of their way to bring a taste of mainland Africa to Seychelles.

This year, the FetAfrik celebrations will have once again have a Kenya influence. DJ Kalonje might not be what Seychelles party goers would describe in their “jargon” as the island’s hottest DJ, but his far-reaching success in Africa has made him today one of Kenya’s ultimate DJs. Surfing his auto biography, one would conclude that DJ Kalonje is indeed talented. Like most DJs in the entertainment industry, he can work up a crowd and possesses the art of cutting, beating, juggling and scratching.

DJ Kalonje will perform in a free DJ Fiesta at Staduim Car Park on May 24 with Seychelles shooting stars in the DJ industry. The show will start at 9:30PM. Everyone going to Victoria for FetAfrik, the Africa Day Celebrations watch out for DJ Kalonje.

A few years ago DJ Mantixx was considered one of the most enigmatic and entertaining deejays in Kenya. However, Mantixx got off the show when he went off limelight for a couple of years.

And now a string of bad luck seems to dog the once popular spin-master. Fresh from being fired from Candy n Candy Records, DJ Mantixx is now being accused of being a swindler. According to his accusers, some five guys, Mantixx tricked them into giving him a sum of Sh100,000 being payment for deejaying school fees offered by (his former employer) Candy n Candy Records.

However, Mantixx scattered leaving the five in limbo. When they tried to reach him unsuccessfully for over a month, they resorted to involve the police in the matter.

Together with the law enforcers, they went to Candy n Candy offices off Mombasa Road to hunt for Mantixx. Upon arrival however, they were informed that the deejay was no longer with the stable as he had been dismissed a month earlier.

Speaking to Mantixx, he flatly denies these allegations claiming that he hasn’t taken money from anyone and has no knowledge that cops are looking for him.

“Me niko tu around. Sijaskia polisi yeyote ananitafuta,” says Mantixx in his defence.

Asked about claims that he’s using Candy n Candy Records’ deejaying school to con Kenyans, this is what he says, “Uko nilitoka kitambo. Me nina shule yangu tao. Apo Moi Avenue. Na hakuna mtu nimecon.”

He reveals the only person who has called him to complain is a guy (whose name he withheld) from the diaspora whom he borrowed (deejay) decks from and is yet to return.

“Akuna karau amenicall. Ni msee flani tu apo nina decks zake na ako majuu na nilikua nimrudishie izo machine nab ado sijafanya ivo. Ni hio tu.”

Sometime last month, radio queen, Kalekye Mumo, was away in London and before she made her way back news broke that she’s gotten engaged.

However, her engagement has forever remained a mystery with nobody knowing about the equally mysterious lucky man in her life.

Well, over the weekend, the drive show host finally opened up about her engagement.

Speaking on KTN Leo Wikendi, Kalekye releaved that she’s engaged to…wait for it… HER MUSIC!

She explains that it was a tough decision she had to make and finally decided she’s gonna go the music way. And that’s why she’s even wearing the shiny gold engagement ring.

Yes, she’s serious like that.

Meanwhile, the radio queen will feature in the next big movie expected before the end of the year, but details about it are still scanty.

Holy Dave’s intensifying influence in the Gospel Hip-hop industry cannot be disputed. He has played a major role in shaping the careers of household names such as Eko Dydda and Kelele Takatifu among others.

In 2010 his collaboration with Eko Dydda ‘Niko na Reason’ scooped the Groove Awards Hip-hop song of the Year award. In 2012 the Groove Awards Hip-hop category featured three of his songs; ‘Press on’ with Izzo, ‘Mara Hio Hio’ with Bantu and ‘Ni Msoh’ with Kelele Takatifu. Currently Holy Dave is working on his new song titled ‘Milk and Honey’, produced by‘Mgangez Kama Kawa’ and Leon Chege at Fullhouse Music. Away from music Holy Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computer Science and an MBA in Strategic Management. Last year he attended Advanced Financial Modeling classes and is now a certified Investment Analyst.

There is a new gospel queen in town and she is causing ripples with a fresh style and voice.

She already has two singles out, ‘Upendo ‘ and ‘Beautiful’ which have all done well receiving great airplay and opening doors for this young artist both in business partnerships like the one with MobileSawa and a couple of top nominations.

Currently Chuchu is working on a long term project of getting her album out by mid next year though her current project is the release of her new single ”Naondoka” next week which is set to take the industry by storm.  Here are two new singles which demonstrate why the only way for the artist is up.
