In March last year, South Africa’s Drum Magazine revealed that Caster Semenya was engaged to fellow athlete Violet Ledile Raseboya and they had moved in together.

The  Daily Sun now reports that the lesbian  couple has moved from living together to actual dowry(Lobola) negotiations with even Semenya allegedly planning to cough up 25,000 Rands which is approximately 210,00 shillings.

Following a disgusting maltreatment to her dad by Fly540, Gospel songstress, Emmy Kosgei has finally broken her silence over the matter.

The singer is demanding an apology from the airline for mistreating her dad despite clearly understanding that he’s physically disabled.

Emmy posted;

“We DEMAND an apology from fly 540 !!!!!!! Mistreating people with physical disability… This is quite unfair & unfortunate 540 could not facilitate my daddy’s exit from their plane. Instead cruelly mistreated & forced him out. Just because he couldn’t walk????? This is against human rights. Join me in condemning this ungodly act ! IT MUST END !!!!!!!!!”

So this morning it emerged that Fly540 compelled Bishop Jackson Kosgei, father to celebrated singer Emmy Kosgei, to disembark from one of their planes by crawling on his stomach after the staff declined to assist him down despite knowing perfectly well that he can’t walk.

While no word has been forthcoming from the airline, with only the CEO saying the policy is clear about disabled people, the airline has finally broken its silence over the issue;

“We commend and support Bishop Jackson Kosgei and his tireless work to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by less-abled people. Fly540 Kenya is proud of its track record and the contribution it makes to help wherever possible.

We are investigating this allegation and taking the matter seriously. We also take the matter of health and safety of all our passengers very seriously and, like all airlines, insure all our passengers against injury. What we can and cannot do are dictated by terms and conditions of insuring our passengers. Due to the type of our planes, we cannot provide cover for immobile or lift-on/off passengers.

The aircrafts in use are not fitted with the special equipment needed for these situations and, as a result, our insurance does not provide cover against any issues that might arise through our employees physically carrying a passenger. We are however able to assist wheelchair passengers who can be escorted up to the aircraft door, as long as they are able to climb the stairs – and provided we are informed at the time of booking. We make this clear to everyone and it is in at least three different places on our website.

“Bishop Kosgei is a frequent traveler with us and has not had any issues previously. Our preliminary investigations indicate that in this instance he declined assistance whilst disembarking. Once we have concluded our investigation we will make it available to the relevant authorities. Additionally, we are happy to meet the Bishop and discuss how we can make matters easier for him in the future.”

DISGUSTING

Nothing captures the spirit of this entire despicable, dastardly, down right evil affair quite like the word disgusting. Even as I typed up this article, I wore quite the look of disgust on my face. I look like I have caught the whiff of someone’s excrement in my mouth. That is how bad the story that broke out has affected me.

My colleague Jeff called my attention to the fact that Emmy Kosgei’s father was forced to crawl off an aeroplane by the airline’s management because he is handicapped.
You read right, the man, who is confined to a wheelchair was denied, nay, stripped of any dignity and honour when he was humiliatingly asked to crawl off the aeroplane flight which had left Eldoret devoid of any drama.

The report Jeff Omondi put up not so long ago which was a syndication of a story that appeared in the Nairobi News written by Justus Wanga claimed that the cabin crew went as far as to bar people from assisting Bishop Jackson Kosgei of Worldwide Gospel Church of Kenya to preserve some of his dignity by support him down the stairs!
As I think of this recent show of poor judgement cruelty, I can’t help but draw parallels to the recent incident of alleged racial profiling outright racism incident that besmirched Artecaffe. I am disgusted by both incidents but to be honest, I do not patronize and will never patronize Artecaffe so my outrage at the alleged racism incident doesn’t dent their business.

However, I fly often and the comments reportedly made by the CEO of Fly540 on the matter as reported by Nairobi News has me saying that I will never set foot on a Fly540 plane. My colleague Jeff Omondi said maybe it’s time for KoT to swing into action. Only money will make an impact. As a human being who is disgusted by what was reportedly done, I will not be using the service offered.

Now go and tell the airline’s CEO, Don Smith, who allegedly said, “We do not carry people who cannot physically support themselves; our terms and conditions are very clear on this. We are not allowed to carry them, people who cannot physically walk.” That God’s Chosen Blogger has spoken. And my opinion of both he and his airline are very low.

And what of Prezzo? That name is known from here to Western Africa. That name is known down south in the and of Mzanzi. So is their long standing beef. But Prezzo was recently attempted to reconcile with Jaguar on a Tanzanian TV show during an interview with Ayo TV. In the interview, Prezzo said -and I quote- “I want to make it clear that I have no beef with Jaguar and I am willing to work with him if the opportunity arises.”

When Jaguar was reached for a comment however, he poured cold water on the notion by saying, “Making peace in an interview is a good strategy for Prezzo. Afterall, if you can’t beat them, join them. However, if he thinks he is going to work with me, he must be daydreaming.”

The last time I checked, physically impaired persons always receive preference when it comes to public service/ customer care. But it appears Fly540 doesn’t recognize any of that.

Recently, Bishop Jackson Kosgei of Worldwide Gospel Church of Kenya and father to songstress Emmy Kosgei was forced to crawl from a Fly540 plane after the airline’s staff declined to help him get down after a 40-minute standoff reports Nairobi News.

Allegedly, Emmy’s dad was ordered to alight on his own by Fly540 attendants when it landed at JKIA from Eldoret in spite of his disability. Nairobi News adds that he lodged a complaint about his ill-treatment to JKIA police and OB No 18/11/5/2014 states that the airline staff refused to allow anybody to support him as he disembarked.

“The officer who came to intervene made it worse as he casually told me that their company policy was never to carry people who cannot support themselves around,” Bishop Kosgei told the paper.
