I have had a pretty rough month and so have many other people, so while the temptation is to complain about things we should stop and double check what we are saying and who we are saying it to… so this is me rambling
Take 100 people in a room, tell people to walk around silently and ask them to stop and for each individual to choose two other people in the room (without them knowing) and try to make an equilateral triangle (equal sided triangle), people start moving… everyone is busy shuffling moving left and right trying to ensure that his triangle is equal, but with every move he forces another person to move who is trying to align with him or her who in return forces another to move… now, grab one person and tell them to walk outside and suddenly you have chaos… two people follow then four then 8 and the entire room is out in no time… because everybody has to maintain an equilateral triangle.
That is how connected we are, move one of us… hurt one of us.. intentionally or not, you will eventually hurt more people than you intended, 20 hotels close in Mombasa, 1000 plus people are out of jobs, farmer in Kitale cannot sell his produce to hotels in mombasa to pay school fees for his kids in Kisumu for the teacher to invest in his shop in machakos for your grandmother to have access to basic needs.
This country is taking a beating, the negative truths are there, we have insecurity, tribalism, road carnage, a government that is confusing, and an opposition that is being irresponsible, but we also have positive truths, we have better roads than we did a few years ago, better services in government, adjusting to devolution and seeing results…
As a people, we can focus on negative truths… we will get negative results or focus on positive truths and drive towards positive results ensure those hotels are open, make security our individual responsibility and just like the Americans say, I am an American… we can say, I am a Kenyan, because unless you have another place you can call home…. this burns it burns with you.
Remember the equilateral Triangle… and the role you are playing .. are you building or burning this country, what are your positive truths?
