But I digress. So I came across this movie titled Simiyu Samurai which is a fight flick of epic proportions and I want to share it with you. Please trust me that is is worth the watch. So click on it and view what Kenyans are upto -and the surprise is that Prezzo acted in it albeit a cameo role! Ha1

Something Good Is Coming To Kiambu County

Holy Dave’s intensifying influence in the Gospel Hip-hop industry cannot be disputed.

He has played a major role in shaping the careers of household names such as Eko Dydda and Kelele Takatifu among others.

DSC01279.jpg

In 2010 his collaboration with Eko Dydda ‘Niko na Reason’ scooped the Groove Awards Hip-hop song of the Year award. In 2012 the Groove Awards Hip-hop category featured three of his songs; ‘Press on’ with Izzo, ‘Mara Hio Hio’ with Bantu and ‘Ni Msoh’ with Kelele Takatifu. In 2014 the trend continues, after ‘Wannabe’ his recent collaboration with ‘Dee’ got nominated in the all so familiar Hip-hop category.  To vote for them send a text written ‘Groove 8f’ to 811 or vote online at www.vote.grooveawards.co.ke

Currently Holy Dave is working on his new song titled ‘Milk and Honey’, produced by ‘Mgangez Kama Kawa’ and Leon Chege at Fullhouse Music. Away from music Holy Dave holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Computer Science and an MBA in Strategic Management. Last year he attended Advanced Financial Modeling classes and is now a certified Investment Analyst.

5 Gospel Artistes to Watch

There are at least 5 reasons to be excited about Gospel Music for the rest of the year. Some of the best songs of the remaining half of the year may come from newcomers. These are the artists whom we think will make it big in the months and years to come;

5. Bonny Mosh

He’s a KDF soldier turned Gospel singer and we have seen him become famous on radio by building his career the old-fashioned way. That means endless writing, promoting and rejection before finally getting that chance — and boy did he ever make the most of it. He’s currently flying high with his single, “Father God” and has already done a collabo with Ole Willy pending release.

Bonny Mosh 1

4. Majic Mike

He’s the “super producer super singer” of Gospel. This guy has done tracks for big Gospel acts like Kris Eeh Baba, SOC and most recently Juliani.

As an artist, Majic Mike has worked with Kris Eeh Baba on a single that enjoyed rave reviews and airplay on both TV and radio. Most recently, the Red Republic producer came out with a new jam that might as well change the Gospel scene.

MAJIC_PRO-032.jpg

3. Dee (Diana Kiamba)

This Tahidi High actress turned Gospel hip-hop rapper gave the local Gospel scene a feminine touch especially after Mitchelle ‘The Brand’ fizzled out of the music scene. Dee performs music under the category of hip hop, rap or their sub-genres and has so far featured Holy Dave in one of her singles.

She started out towards the end of 2013 and her consistency has kept her in our memories.

Dee.jpg

2. L-Jay Maasai

This is yet another young upstart who, in our hearts, we most want to hear new music from this year–and in our heads know to expect big things from. James Lekishon Ole Kamwaro a.k.a L-Jay Maasai was born in Narok, about 21 years ago but age has never been a hindrance to him. Straight from high school he released his first hit single ‘Laleiyo’ in which he featured ‘Agiginyani’ hit-maker Shiru Wa GP and the song was an instant hit receiving airplay across all TV and radio stations nationwide and more recently on DSTV channels. The success of the video has had him receiving calls for live performances from all corners of the country.

He followed it up immediately with ‘Iyaiyo’ and already has a new video coming up, ‘Tapala’.

L-Jay_Maasai.jpg

1. Bahati

I like to refer to him as the “Gospel Wonder kid”. If you’ve heard the name, you already know we ride for this fast-rising Gospel artiste. In fact, we’ve have been fans at least since he started singing, right from his first single and he hasn’t disappointed even once.

Bahati is the No.1 Gospel artist to watch. His latest video, “Barua” is every bit as good as his other hits, but what separates him from other artists on this list is his natural confidence. You see it in the way he carries himself in his videos.

He has also been nominated for the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) in the Best Gospel Artist category in Africa. Remember to vote for him HERE.

New Gospel Queen Causes Ripples In The Industry

There is a new gospel queen in town and she is causing ripples with a fresh style and voice.

She already has two singles out, ‘Upendo ‘ and ‘Beautiful’ which have all done well receiving great airplay and opening doors for this young artist both in business partnerships like the one with MobileSawa and a couple of top nominations.

Currently Chuchu is working on a long term project of getting her album out by mid next year though her current project is the release of her new single ”Naondoka” next week which is set to take the industry by storm.  Here are two new singles which demonstrate why the only way for the artist is up.

Chuchu_Image_5.jpg

Here are her two singles which are out that speak volumes of Chuchu’s potential.

Bahati! Bahati! Bahati! This Is A Truly Blessed Artist

When he bust on to the scene, it was easy to dismiss him as a kid jumping on the bandwagon, but this guy is the driver and he stayed, put in the hours and shone.

Now he is no longer in the shadows, Bahati is now the main man in the industry if the nominations are anything to go by. For the 9th Groove Awards he has been nominated for three major categories;

Male Artist Of The Year: SMS Groove 1A to 811

Video Of The Year For Machozi:SMS Groove 9c to 811

Song Of The Year For Machozi:SMS Groove 5c to 811

He has given us hit after hit, from Mama, Barua, to Machozi

Did Caroline Mutoko Really Vow Not To Employ Nairobi University Students Because They Are Goons? She Speaks out

If you are a devoted user of social media I’m sure you have come across an article that claimed that Caroline Mutoko had said that UON graduates would not be employed at Radio Africa as they were goons.

The article went on to further ad that the reason Caroline Mutoko was displeased by the students was that they nearly stoned her car during the demonstration.

We spoke to Caroline who said

The saddest thing about people who lie and lie wildly to get attention is that they never check their facts:
So – just get rid of the nonsense and not necessary to shame the idiot who wanted a little limelight:

1. I don’t drive a Mercedes
2. I didn’t witness any of the drama – I barely left the office that day.
3. I don’t hire – at what point is it my decision whether or not someone gets hired at Radio Africa?

Like I said – the problem with liars is not knowing what they are talking about.

Here are the facts however as I laid them out on-air:

1. As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow – Public university fees will go up. The academic staff costs have gone up, the institution’s costs have gone up and even the non-academic staff have demanded more pay. The costs that have prevailed since the 90s don’t apply today and won’t in the future.
Fees will go up. Look for ideas and solutions not thuggery.

Until 1992/3 no-one would have thought there would be no “boom”. Yes there was the usual nonsensical stone throwing, but as sure as I am here today – boom is no more. Change is the ONLY constant thing in life.

2. Thinking as part of a crowd is suicidal. Degrees bare INDIVIDUAL NAMES, as do playslips, income tax returns, bank loans and even electricity bills. The sooner one learns to make decision about where they will be tomorrow the better.

3. The chaos, thuggery and nonsense on Tuesday was beneath any of the students of an institution of higher learning. If the residents of Kibera will no longer by used by any politician to result to chaos, why would you, who are privilege to be among the cream of academic society stope so low?

The reason I haven’t bothered to play along with someone who crafted an elaborate lie to justify feeling a little less awkward for being part of something that added no value is because I pity the person – deeply.
We’re not in competition. I won my race – I am where I was going.

I won when I graduated. I won when I got a job. I won went I got past my obstacles. I won, because everyday I’m living my dream on my terms. I won – and I didn’t even throw a stone – not once.

Friends No more! Bamboo And Abbas Tear At Each Other!

Bamboo and Abbas have been a mainstay of Kenyan  hip hop since back when and that is the way things have always been. Even when there was beef, they cooked it together. But all that seems to have come to an end as the pair are now imploding as they degenerate into what seems to be beef between the pair!

According to Pulse magazine who pursued the story after I broke it here, K-South Are Done Forever, the pair of them are not seeing eye to eye with each other and they are now attacking the other as Abbas refuses to work with his erstwhile friend and partner in crime!

Now this the report according to Pulse (trust that I will truncate it and only give you what is needed -leaving out the junk used as a filler):

Abbas threw Bamboo out of his house following differences over “serious issues”. They have been mentoring rival camps with Abbas mentoring Khaligraph Jones and Rabbit whom Bamboo has been allegedly dissing. Bamboo on the other hand has been mentoring Coola Gang which was seen as a countermeasure against Abbas.

After Bamboo’s message (which God’s Chosen Blogger highlighted) Abbas retaliated with this; “K-South this, K-South that! Going solo was the best thing that happened… Can’t do “bizness” with non-focused peeps. Let’s see who is who.

Given how long the pair have been a team, I hope this turns out to just be a family feud that will quickly be resolved. But all the best to the pair.

Kenya’s Top Cyclist (The Cyclist on The Sossi Advert ) Profiled on CNN International’s ‘African Voices’

Kenya’s most successful cyclist David Kinjah, who trained the 2013 Tour De France winner, Kenyan-born Briton Chris Froome, will be profiled this week on CNN International’s ‘African Voices.’

Kinjah, who has helped shine the spotlight on one of Kenya’s unexploited sports, tells CNN he uses his Safari Simbaz foundation to change the communities by developing young people into professional cyclists.

“Cycling in Kenya is still at grass roots, and Safari Simbaz was borne out of the realization of the huge potential in developing local talent,” he explains.

When Kinjah made the decision to start training the upcoming riders, he was introduced to young Kenyan born British cyclist Chris Froome who would go on to win bronze at the 2012 Olympic Games, and in 2013, he won the world’s most prestigious cycling competition, the Tour De France.

Although Froome’s success in the global cycling arena, and his association with Kinjah has earned Safari Simbaz great local and international admiration, Kinjah explains this process has not been without its challenges.

“We don’t have the proper funding, so we do it at our own village level and the future looks bright. In the future there will still be Kenyan runners beating the world, but also possibly Kenyan cyclists doing well on the world cycling stage,” he concludes.

David Kinjah is featured on ‘African Voices’ Friday 23 May at 10:30am, with replay broadcasts on Saturday 24 May at 17:30pm, Sunday 25 May at 11:00am and 8:30pm, and Monday 26 May at 12:30pm.

Tune in to CNN on DStv Channel 401.

The Maasai Gospel Artist Who Got On VEVO Before Any Other Kenyan Gospel Artist

Why so many prominent and established Kenyan artistes are yet to have their songs on VEVO is yet to be known and any pointers for now will just be conjecture.

Tim Njiru Takes The Love Of his Life To Dubai For A Holiday (PHOTOS)

Tim Njiru has decided to celebrate the love he has for his woman publicly after taking her for a romantic getaway at Dubai. And the man who hosts the “Ideal Space” show on KTN has taken a small hiatus from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi life and he has taken his significant other.

Personally, I think it is great that the modern Kenyan man has begun expressing his feelings towards his significant other but trust that there are a couple of trolls that will be snickering at men such as us because they believe being Neanderthals is cool or manly… And we wonder why so many women call Maina and King’ang’i in the morning to complain…

Kenyans are Crazy! Caller Asks Popular Radio Presenter Out on a Date Live on Air (AUDIO CLIP)

If you thought you’ve seen it all, try fitting into a radio host’s shoes just for a day to test your forbearance meter. And when Kenyans are thrown into the mix, the end result is appalling!

So this morning, One FM’s Lulu Saidi was on duty as usual taking calls from her listeners and all was fine until this particular guy called. Apparently he’s always harboured his feelings for the sassy radio host but he finally decided to fungua roho live on air.

Despite Lulu’s efforts to sidetrack his attention, the guy was insistent about taking her out and even revealed to her that he loves her! All this was live on air!

Here’s how the conversation went;

Lulu: Haloooo!

Caller: Mambo?

Lulu: Poa sana!

Caller: Nilikushow hio story ukalenga?

Lulu: Story gani?

Caller: Ya kukupeleka out.

(Lulu bursts into a laughter)

Lulu: Sasa we ni kuongea tu na sikuoni hapa!

Caller: Hapana! Aki ukijua tu vile nakupenda!

Listen to the rest of that crazy call here;

Never Seen Before Photo Of TPF’s Valerie Kimani And Her Son

A beautiful, refined and talented young woman walked on to the TPF stage in 2006 and left a superstar after she won the first ever edition of Tusker Project fame. Her name: Valerie Kimani.

Unlike the winners who came after her, Valerie did not waste any time and released Baisikeli. Baisikeli contained Besame Mucho which won the 2010 Kora Award for Best musical arrangement. While enjoying a flourishing musical career, Valerie decided to venture out into other projects, joining Nick Mutuma, Lupita Nyong’o and Anto Neo-Soul for the first edition of Shuga which got her first-rate reviews.

When she is not on a stage in Vegas, Kenya and the world or on your screens, Valerie is taking care of her son, Little Zion. Here is the mother-son duo looking all so adorable

This Men’s Fashion Should Never Ever Be Allowed in Kenya (PHOTOS)

“This is my second REAL menswear collection,” said Irish designer Jonathan Anderson as he unveiled his latest offering of menswear that’s “intended to reconfigure both menswear and women’s wear, and to give a kick up the arse to the stale state of much of men’s fashion at the moment.”

I think this guy just woke up one day and decided, “You know what? Trousers are too mainstream for men!” Seriously, looking at this design, I don’t think any man walking under the sun should be seen on Kenyan streets rocking this “bold” look. Who wants to see any man in frilly dresses and shorts?

Yes, Kenyan celebs are now wearing skirts/kilts but it really should never ever come to this. Check out this crazy fashion;

The Journey That Is Fatherhood: K-Letta (Father Of Mwalimu Rachel’s Son) Opens Up About Fatherhood

Father’s day is right around the corner. Most of us have fathers and many of us are already fathers. Not alot of thought is ever paid to the journey that is fatherhood and I am sure not many can muster the courage to say these three words to their fathers: “I Love You”. Think about it. Really think about it. How many of you say these words to the men who protected and provided for us as we grew up? And so, I have decided to do a small series of sorts about fathers. Most can’t muster the courage to say just three words and it’s alright, men are creatures of few words. But I want to give men an opportunity to talk about their journey into fatherhood:

Mwalimu Rachel is one of the most beautiful ladies on radio (103.5 Homeboyz).

Picture

And K-Letta one of the most talented rappers in Kenya. The pair of them kept their relationship hush hush -an understandable move when you’re a high profile couple. Fortunately for them, their love has yielded fruit; a bouncing baby boy. A cute one at that. I reached out to K-Letta for him to tell me about his journey into fatherhood and this was what he had to say:

What’s good world!
If I’m to keep it 100, when I found out I’d be a father it was initially kinda scary. But once the doctors visits, advice from family and shopping for baby clothes began I was in my stride. Plus having the hottest chick in the game certainly helps 🙂
Having not had the best relationship with my father, I ensure that my son gets the best of me.

Fatherhood has definitely changed me, I’m more about my business, my time is super valuable. As an artist it’s inspired me plenty and really gotten the creative juices flowing, especially now as I prepare my debut album. Shout out to all the fathers that are involved in their kids lives!

– K-Letta aka Rich Homie Shaun

The one drink I would have gotten for this father to celebrate his journey would be a Johnnie Walker! Why? Because that is how you celebrate a father. You give him something of value that will pass the message across!
