The Groove Awards 2016 went down yesterday as is their usual tradition and saw some big surprises along the way as some big artistes missed in categories they were expected to win.

The main awards of the night were the Male and Female Artist of The Year, The Songwriter of the Year, The Album of The Year,Song of the Year, Video Producer Of the Year as well as The Audio Producer Of the Year.

Mercy Masika was widely expected to grab the Female Artiste of the year and she deservedly did with L-Jay Maasai causing quite a surprise  beating both heavy weights Pitson and Daddy Owen  for the Male artiste of the year. Mercy Masika proved to be the biggest individual winner clinging three prizes.

Having faced criticism of awarding the same artistes every year, this year’s Awards quite redeemed itself in pretty many ways. Here is the full list of winners.

Groove Awards 2016 finally went down yesterday at Safaricom Indoor Arena and celebrity turned up in their numbers showcasing both extreme sides of fashion.

Just like last year when celebrities showed up dressed to standout from typical citizens, 2016 award gala also witnessed ‘odd’ fashion.

Celebs crammed Safaricom Indoor Arena dressed in all manner of clothes; those who inspired with ‘wow’ and those left you with ‘awe’ with their dressing.

Maskini ni wewe! Ex Vitimbi actress is now cruising around town in a top of the class Range Rover!

There was a time when Vitimbi and Vioja Mahakamani cast was grumbling about being paid peanuts by the national broadcaster, KBC.

But that is long gone, Eunice Wambui aka Nyasuguta left Vitimbi and got herself a money-minting job (She has an agency dubbed ‘Nyasuguta Global’ which takes job seekers to the Middle East.)

Anyway, Nyasuguta was spotted in Hurlingham showing of a classy Range Rover. She posted a photo of the British-made machine with caption reading:

“God’s blessings I’m so humbled never been happier.”

For a ‘man’ who recently suffered stroke, getting a dog’s beating in a foreign country surely posed a threat to his/her life!

Kenyan author Binyavanga Wainaina was last year admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Karen Hospital after he/she suffered stroke at his/her home in Nairobi.

Apart from writing, Binyavanga is also renowned homosexual activist who doesn’t give a damn about dressing up in women’s clothing.

The author recently visited Germany, Berlin to be precise, where he/she paid dearly for being black, African black.

Binyavanga says in his/her social media post that a German cab driver launched a pre-emptive attack on him/her while he/she was seated in his taxi searching for an address where the driver was to take him/her.

Binyavanga says he/she had been warned by a German woman of a potential racist attack in the area where he/she was staying.

He/she ignored the warning and he/she paid dearly. No one came to his/her rescue when the taxi driver pounced on him/her.

Berlin chronicles. Am in Berlin as one of the writers on a Daad Fellowship.. This is one of the most prestigious fellowships in the world. Berlin is a city of bikes. I live in Charlottenburg. You don’t see black people in Charlottenburg.

Today I was out shopping on my bike. I came out of Peek and Somethingburg all excited because I am off to dar es salaam tonight to see my in -love. Anyway am busy rushing about. My gorgeous apartment is a mess.

Anyway, I am walking as carelessly as usual heading to unlock my bike when i see her – a black woman looking at me. She says, ” I saw you the other day, cycing carelessly, on Saturday we buried 4 Ghanians. They kill you just like that you are nothing to them. Me-you cant see me on bicycle – they are supposed to remain 4 metres from you, but they don’t. They kill you.

I don’t need a degree to say she meant Germans. But I am careless,and Berlin is a city designed for careless people. Except her – and I suspect they are many others like her. Anyway, I left her carelessly and rushed home, put my new clothes on top of my suitcase – and called a cab.

I had finished my prescription medication the day before so I had called the cab company I like because they dont mind that i dont speak German and – since my stroke I have a few speech defects – I mangle 22..stuttgarter platz ..and they don’t mind.

The cab was waiting. I got in, sat down carelessly and started to look for the address for where was going on my phone. And the website of the clinic i was going to was one of those that maybe dont fit a phone so well. Any way it took a long to me to get the address. Clearly the taxi driver was not a patient guy. He asked me several times to hurry it, but si the meter is running, and i am paying him?

So he gets out of the car and comes across to my side, and opens the door. I am clueless what is going on because he is beating me, my bag is on the ground , we scuffle but he is stronger, I am crying now. Loud. In front of my neighbors , it is fiveissh the lady at the shop who makes it a point never to say hello to me is relishing everything, nobody comes to my aid. I feel black, dirty. I feel as if this kind of thing is supposed to happen to somebody like me. Am in Zurich writing this, on my way to see my inlove
