Wangechi Opens Up For The First Time About Losing Tiona Wangechi

21 year old rapper Wangechi is one of the new local artists who are actually putting Kenya on the map with good music.

Her distinct sound has made her one of those few artistes that draw you into rap music even if it’s not your kind of tea, she is able to switch from meticulous rap to angelic singing in a split second and she embodies these two factors in her latest track ‘Cardiac Arrest’ whose video is a sign of a new era in music. That we are switching from the usual club and garden scenes to something more artistic and a little bit more avant-garde by Kenyan standards. But her path to success has not been easy, in fact she has dealt with more pain than a 21 year old should.

Just last year in September, she was involved in a terrible car crash that took the life of one Tionna Wangechi, her best friend of many years. What’s more she had a terrible concussion, fluid in her lungs and a broken hip, jaw, arm and nose. For 10 days her fate teetered gingerly between life and death but after 3 life saving surgeries, recuperation and physiotherapy she left the hospital and was assigned to a nurse who worked around the clock. Her wounds are healed now, but she still hurts emotionally in relation to the death of her friend.

She talks candidly to True Love Magazine about this awful event.

Wangechi says that the hardest part was finding out that her friend was no more. “Finding out about Tionna was a shock. Even thinking about it no devastates me. I miss her. None of my friends or family had told me, mainly because my mum had given them all stern warnings.”
