Kenyan Artistes Find Relief After Musician And Radio Presenter Teams Up With Johnson Mwakazi To Play 100% Kenyan Music

For a long time Kenyan artistes have been sidelined when it comes to playing and showcasing their work on Kenyan media. Instead, they have watched from a distance as foreign artistes are given first priority in almost every platform in Kenya, effectively making Kenya look amateurs in the entertainment industry.

However, this is set to end after musician Kay B, who also adds up as a radio presenter with one of the vernacular radio stations owned by the Royal Media Services, launched a campaign aimed at giving Kenyan artistic work 100% airplay.

Through his show Vipaji Kenya, Kay B aims at creating a platform where all Kenyans artists will be able to show their talent and tell the world what they are made of.

Ghafla Kenya came across the Vipaji Kenya 2015 trailer and sought to know what Kay B’s aim is.

“Vipaji Kenya is a campaign aimed at helping Kenyan artistes realise their dream because for a long time they have been overlooked for foreign a rtistes,” Kay B says.

So what will the show be all about? Is it just showing videos produced by Kenyan artistes?

“The show will entail almost everything that Kenyans artistes do. We will not only show videos and songs but we will be bringing artistes to our studios and have interviews with them. We will also allow any artiste to send their songs, whether audio or visual and after playing it, we will give viewers and listeners a chance to give their views on the same.”

Kay B goes on to say, “I don’t believe it when people call someone an upcoming artiste. There is nothing like that. An artiste is an artiste. The only difference is that he/she has not been given the platform to show their talent.”

The show is set to premier on Johnson Mwakazi’s new TV station, WTV.

Kay B is a himself a musician who also hosts a ragga show on Royal Media’s Egesa FM.
