Jaguar Reveals An Ugly Secret About Iyanya And Other Nigerian Artistes

Jaguar and Iyanya have both dominated radio playlists and phone playlists for a long time.

And that is why their fans were pretty excited when they announced that they would be collaborating for a remix of Jaguar’s hit “One Centimeter”. This also provided an opportunity for both  Iyanya and Jaguar to promote their name regionally.

But alas, this was not to be as jaguar revealed during his acceptance speech at The Bingwa Music Awards for the best video of the year.

He disclosed that working with Iyanya was hard  because first of all, Iyanya wanted the video shot in London or Nigerian and by Clarence Peter or Moe Musa  from his home country.

  Jaguar Meets ‘Kukere’ Singer Iyanya

After much convincing Iyanya agreed to shoot the video with the help of a Kenyan director and as soon as the video hit our screens, it was met with critical acclaim and rave reviews. But on the other end of the spectrum was silence, dead silence as Nigerians adamantly refused to play Kenyan music. They do not play Kenyan music despite their music blaring in our radios and our clubs.

This is the Nigerian strategy for spreading their music and taking over, Jaguar says. They collaborate with the best of the best in Africa to create a name for themselves but refuse to play music not from their country. Jaguar said that because of this we should promote our own music and build our own artistes.

Jaguar says this is something that angered him and he has never picked Iyanya’s calls since then.
