And Now Here’s A Documentary Based on MPs’ Greed

On 14 May 2013, Civil Society activists took to the street to protest the plan by members of Parliament to review their salaries upwards. Their action was not only support by Kenyans in the country but also miles away in the diaspora.

Just a week and a couple of days after the protests, renowned hip-hop rapper K-Nel is on the precipice of releasing a mini film that will tell the world about the greed of Kenyan legislators. K-Nel has been on the forefront protesting MPs’ demands for higher pay perks.

K-Nel immediately released a track titled “MPIGS” (Members of Parliament Implementing Greedy Tactics) when the legislators started pushing for a pay rise. The song went viral and spread fast via the social network, receiving radio play across East Africa and on online radio stations.

However, K-Nel wanted to do more. He had the vision of letting the voices of those oppressed by the system to air out their opinion on the subject. He announced the idea of releasing an independent Minifilm project under the same title. Supported by Swahili Studios/ Follow Focus production and with Georges Mboya as the executive film director and editor, K-Nel’s film script was executed.

The world is looking forward to 1st of June when the entire project will be released. Until then, here is the official trailer edited by Georges Mboya.
