Is Media The Bane of Music Careers For These Ladies?

It’s obvious by now that I like to write about singers. Today, I take on singers who let music go to pursue seemingly ‘greener pastures’ namely lucrative media jobs.

Here’s a list of female singers that have that kinda tone that makes hairs in secret place stand on end.

Amina

It was reported that Amina of Homeboys has decided to let music take a back seat.(read here) This is surprising, considering that in my opinion, this lady has quite a voice on her.
My broken heart pondered on this ‘new’ development, and I realized she’s actually not the first to go down this road. It is as if once one gets into radio and by extension TV,  that sounds the death knell on that fledgling music career. Naomba serikali!!

Why Wasn't HBR's Amina In Jay-A's Video? Is There Bad Blood? Find Out!

Angela Angwenyi

This lady won a couple of awards, before she got into radio and that was the end of that! Sad thing she can really sing, as was evident when she’d break into song when it was time to wish someone a happy birthday. Somebody drag this lady back to the studio, a voice like that needs to permeate our airwaves!!! She’s back on telly btw, read about that here.

Patricia Kihoro.

Although she was out of the country for three months touring Europe with the Out of Africa musical outfit, personally not much has been heeard of her since Project Fame. This girl is stunning, there is no denying that, and has charm for days!! Patricia,Y U No Sing???? She however did take part in this year’s Vagina Monologues, read about that here.

Sanaipei Tande

Although she recently released a video with Jua Cali titled mtoto wa Geti kali, when she was on radio, not much was heard from her. Now if you’ve heard Mulika Mwizi, her duet with Kidum, her adlibs are nothing short of ear-gasmic. This girl started her career in the now defunct Sema, Kenya’s group from that hugely marketed competition Cocacola posters. Her compatriots were Kevin and Pam, remember them? That was the same show that gave you Harry Kimani and Kaz, before she went to the inaugural project fame. She however quit radio so let’s pray that she spends her time in the studio booth where she rightfully belongs.

Sheila Mwanyigha aka Nikki

Nikki has that girly sound sound drives men nuts. Killer looks and an endearing personality to boot, it’s rather surprising that not much has been heard from her lately. She was a pioneer in the music industry and has quite the resume in the media. Which begs the question, why can’t she sing more and maximize on her networks to make herself the icon that I believe she is? I’m told she has a new song, if it’s anything like ‘ni we wako milele’, then I’ll be on the lookout for that.

Talia Oyando.

Wow. This girl knew accolades when she was a teenager, when she teamed up with Alma Tuju to sing that UNICEF anthem ‘Simama watu wote. If i’m not wrong, she won an Emmy. She was the voice behind the late Esir’s hamntishi, and Nyambane’s sweety banana, so there’s no denying that her infectious voice can hold Kenya ransom, musically speaking of-course. Now that she’s back on radio and is a first time mummy, I just feel my hopes wane. Again, naomba serikali!!
